Kaliri landed lightly, ruffling her wings slightly before tucking them against her sides and looking around. She had no idea where she was to be honest - but that hardly mattered, she was only stopping over for a brief rest anyways. Come the morning she'd continue on with her little adventure and meet up with one of her brothers, but tonight she would be alone it seemed - a shame but she hadn't made as much ground as she would have liked thanks to a storm.
At least it was relatively calm here, the storm had come this way - she could tell by the water still dripping from the tree's, but it had stopped actually raining and that made her hopeful about finding a dry place to sleep. Not that she couldn't rough it out in the ill weather - heck no she could do that just as well as any stallion, sure she might look small and dainty but Kaliri spent a good deal of time trying to prove herself anything but. If only her brother would notice that and stop treating her like some prissy mare.
Snorting at the thought Kaliri began to cast about in the woods, searching for a relatively dry place to spend the night - and maybe something to eat too, flying took a lot of energy and she'd been in the air since early this morning.

The morning had been filled with a slow moving storm that had kept her close to home. Aquitaine didn't particularly care for storms, especially since the thunder often upset her dragon and if he was upset she had to keep her guard up. So when the storm had finally passed taking the last of the rain with it Aquitaine felt quite relieved. Still she remained tucked away int he safety of her home for a while after the good weather rolled in. She had no real plans today, outside of the stay close to home plans that filled almost every day of her life. There had been plenty of adventures, good and bad, in the last few months for her so Aquitaine was sticking close to home for now, enjoying time with her family.
Finally she decided to venture out, just a bit. The ocean was still heavy with waves so swimming was not a safe option at the moment. Once the wind died down a bit more the water should be calmer, so she headed more inland. Cutting into the trees Aquitaine walked slowly, she was in no rush to go anywhere because she had no real destination in mind. Water dripped down off of the trees every now and then. A drop hit her dragon and he rumbled unhappily. Aquitaine ignored him. But then a small breeze picked up and shook the branches above setting a cascade of droplets down on the mare and her dragon. A larger growl erupted from the dragon, he hated getting wet. "It is just water." She tried to sooth him while picking her way along the path, the sooner she got out of the trees the better.

Kaliri was studying some wildberries - attempting to determine if they were safe to eat or not when she heard..the growl..and not just one, but twice - and the second one was louder then the first. Snorting she whipped around, narrowing her eyes as she looked around for the source of the growling. She had ot find out what it was - she couldn't very well go to sleep if there was something possibly dangerous hanging around out here.
Momentarily forgetting about the berries she tried to follow the sounds of something walking through the woods - whatever it was seemed to be following the path, so she skirted off into the woods to track it from the side...of course when she saw that what she was following was just another Soquli she let out a faint laugh. "Getting yourself all worked up over nothing" She chastised herself, stepping down the hill so that she could at least say hello...of course she hadn't yet spotted the dragon in the Soquili's hair. That might would have changed her mind about going down to say hi.

Aquitaine continued to walk a short distance until she thought she heard another voice. It had sounded almost female, though it was still far enough away that she couldn't tell for certain. As long as it wasn't one of her brothers playing a prank on her again she would be happy. She loved her brothers but sometimes even at this age they were a total pain. Bringing her hooves to a stop, which irritated her dragon since the meadow was on now a short distance away, Aquitaine's gaze swung around until it landed on a mare coming down the hill. Definitely not her brothers. Her dragon rumbled unhappy at the intruder forcing Aquitaine to try to placate him for a moment before turning her attention to the stranger.
She couldn't see the mare completely yet as she was still semi hidden through the trees but with a small build like that Aquitaine knew it had to be a mare. "Hello." Aquitaine called out, though remained where she was not wanting to crowd the incoming mare, plus until she knew whether this mare was friendly or not it was best to keep her distance. Enough unpleasant encounters in her lifetime had made Aquitaine just a bit weary of strangers but she always greeted them nicely so that their opinions of her might not all be swayed by her looks alone.

Well her greeting sounded nice enough and while that did not always mean that the stranger was friendly it was usually a fairly good indicator. Coming out onto the trail Kaliri gave the other mare a warm look "Well hello there! Do you live around here? I'm just passing through but perhaps you could tell m...." Kaliri's voice trailed off and while before she had been happily walking towards the other mare she now jumped backwards, wings half spread as she seriously considered taking off for the skies. "..what is that?!?" She exclaimed guardedly.
She didn't think it was necessary to explain what it was she was asking after - I mean..if you had something like that caught in your hair you'd probably know about it. She wasn't going to apologize for reacting in such a manner either - I mean ..look at it...it had big red eyes and horns ...and it was just creepy. Of course being afraid wasn't very brave now was it and so despite her reluctance to get any closer to that..thing she bravely offered her assistance anyways "Do..do you need help detangling it?"

As the stranger came into view Aquitaine confirmed her suspicions, definitely a mare, the dainty build and soft voice had been the first clue but she knew males could be small built as well so best to couple check before addressing someone incorrectly as 'miss' or 'sir'. The mare seemed friendly, always a good sign, and was not from around here, which could be a blessing or a curse. Aquitaine listened to the mares words and almost as if on cue watched her pause at the sight of her dragon and nearly take to the skies. Funny, she hadn't noticed until that very moment that the mare was a wind. Of course more amusing the Aquitaine oddly enough was the mares reaction. Normally that kind of thing bugged Aquitaine, how others would jump at the sight of her but watching this mare nearly take to the skies because of it had been a bit comical. Aquitaine couldn't help but let out a laugh as she shook her head.
"I am from around here." Aquitaine replied not missing a beat in answering the strangers initial question. She couldn't help but chuckle a bit more. "You were passing through and wanted to know what this was?." She motioned towards her dragon with her muzzle. "Well I do believe I have become a regular attraction in this area" It was a rare thing to joke about herself in such a way but Aquitaine was in a good mood so why let this change it. Besides she had learned that sometimes a smile and a laugh helped to ease an awkward situation along. "It is a dragon head from what I understand." She began to explain to the mare. "And no I'm afraid untangling it will not do much except get him angry and it is best to keep your distance from her." Aquitaine hoped that little bit of information wouldn't scare the mare off. "I am stuck with him as much as he is stuck with me. I'm Aquitaine and he...well he doesn't really have a name, hasn't liked any of the ones I've picked for him so far.

Kaliri was still a little bit on the nervous side in the face of seeing a dragons head tangled in the mares hair..but the mare's laughter sort of diffused most of her fear - I mean who would laugh at something if it was truly dangerous? It did make her feel a little bit foolish herself however for reacting the way that she had. Snorting slightly she tried to push that aside and answer in a light tone. "Actually I was hoping you could point in the right direction, I'm supposed to meet my brother somewhere around here...your umm..dragon head? Just surprised me is all." She shared with the mare, giving a slight chuckle.
"My name is Kaliri" She introduced herself with a slight bob of her head while she fluffed her wings slightly before resettling them at her sides. "You say you live around here? I do hope I haven't intruded upon someones's territory by accident"

Aquitaine watched as the mare started to relax a bit. See a little bit of laughter went a long way in a situation like this. "He does that with a lot of strangers." Aquitaine admitted glancing back at her dragon for a moment then back to the mare. "Well I can certainly try to give you directions, or at least get you going in what will hopefully be the right direction." She may live around here but spending most of her time at the beach meant the surrounding areas were still a bit unknown to her. She would certainly do her best to help and if there was truly no way of getting the mare the right directions then she could always get her father to help, as he would surely know the way. But for now Aquitaine would try to help by herself. "Where are you supposed to meet your brother at?" Hopefully it would be someplace she was at least somewhat familiar with.
He eyes moved to the mares wings for a moment. It was only now that she had paused to take a real good look at the mare. She won a sort of mask, bands on her legs and stranger decoration on her wings. Down her throat was almost feather like markings. And her eyes had a glow to them. She had met a foal when she had been younger whose eyes had glowed, so this mare was one of only a few she knew of with such a trait. "It's nice to meet you Kaliri." She gave her head a bob. "My family lives on the beach not far from here. And don't worry, we don't mind when others wander through, as long as they have good intentions." Aquitaine doubted that Kaliri would cause any trouble for her family. Her eyes looked at the mares wings again and she couldn't help but ask about them. "You're a wind, correct?" Her grandfather was a Wind but she had not yet met many others who were of the winged variety. Perhaps she could learn something about the breed while helping this mare out.

"I imagine he does" Kaliri agreed with a slight smile - at least the other mare hadn't taken offense at her reaction, she wouldn't have felt very good if she had hurt the mare's feelings with an ill thought out comment. then again - one could really hardly blame her I mean...it was a dragon. Focus Kaliri, focus! She mentally scolded herself - she had to forget about the blasted dragon if she was going to get anywhere today. "Well he said that I should find a stream connected to the ocean and follow it back to a small pond with a little island in the center, but there's a lot of little streams in this area and I have no idea which one to follow"
When the mare asked about her wings Kaliri gave a slight nod of her head "Mostly...one of my grandparents is a Cerynei but the rest of the family are all wind. I don't really have any of my grandmother's traits though so I've always considered myself a wind"

For a moment Aquitaine was silent. There were plenty of streams in the area so she had to think a bit to figure out which one the mare was supposed to head to. A small pond with an island in the center. Hmm. She was certain there was a pond that linked to a stream not far from here, and nearly every stream in the area led to the ocean. "I think I know the one you need to find." She told Kaliri and began to walk towards the mare, so that she could lead her out of the trees and show her the way. "If it's the one I'm thinking of it's not too far, though I can't say for certain if it has an island in the middle, but it is the only one around with a pond so your chances are good." As she walked Aquitaine put a bit of distance between herself and Kaliri, it would keep her dragon happy that way, he hated when others got too close, either accidentally or deliberately. "I'll show you the way."
As she walked Aquitaine cast a glance over at Kaliri. "It's funny how certain traits don't show up in a family. I would have never guessed you had Cerynei blood in you." It was much the same on how she looked so very little like her parents, though that was more to blame thanks to that scary tunnel they had visited than genes skipping generations. "I bet it is great to soar above the trees, it must give you an extra freedom us land bound Soquili don't have." Some days she wished for a freedom like that, to escape the horrified look of others when they first say her. But without wings she could only imagine of such a thing. "My grandfather is a wind, though you'd never know it since my father doesn't have wings." She continued to follow the path that would shortly take them out of the wooded area and into the grassy plains where she could show Kaliri the way.

Kaliri waited patiently for the mare to think about her answer, if she was anything like herself then she was probably mentally running through all the streams in the area in search of one that fit her description. Kaliri rather hoped the mare came up with one - she'd hate to be so off course that she couldn't find her brother before he gave up on her and left thinking she wasn't going to show. When Aquitaine finally spoke up Kaliri blew out a small sigh of relief. "Thank's I really appreciate it." She told the other mare sincerely.
"Thats true I suppose..one of my brother's got the Cerynei tail and split hooves but the rest of us look like full wind." She shared with the other mare, although she decided not to follow through by asking after Aquitaine's heritage, she thought maybe unicorn of some type judging by the horns and hooves but it was hard to tell with her other traits muddling it all up and she'd hate to offend the mare more then she had already by startling at the dragon if she were wrong. Of course that question was answered a little bit in the mares next couple of remarks. Funny Kaliri never would have guessed that the mare had wind in her as well - but that just proved the point now didn't it. "I suppose so, it's a different perspective of the land from way up there it's true..but at the same time I think we miss a lot of things that ground Soquili get to see because it's hidden by the tree's or because we are too high to see it when we go through."

After a short time the pair had reached the edge of the trees and Aquitaine stepped out into the open meadow. She looked around for a moment gaining her barrings before figuring out which way the stream was. "I'm glad to help." She told Kaliri with a smile. "The stream is this way." And she began to walk again. Aquitaine could have just told Kaliri which way to fly to make the journey quicker for the mare, but too few opportunities to talk to new faces came up and they were already in mid conversation anyways. Besides if it turned out to be the wrong stream then Kaliri would be no more ahead than she was before meeting Aquitaine. Best to make sure she got where she needed to get to before heading home.
Aquitaine smiled as they spoke about family and the difference between siblings and parents. It was nice to see that other families had differences in appearance from one generation to the other, though in Kaliri's family's case they were not as extreme as Aquitaine's family was. But she was okay with that, for after all this time, after all the struggles Aquitaine had learned that there was nothing wrong with being different. "My parents are both unicorns, though as I mentioned before my father's father was a wind. My brothers and I look quite different from my parents as I'm sure you can tell." Aquitaine said with a chuckle. As Kaliri explained the advantages and disadvantages of flying Aquitaine nodded. It made perfect sense. Flight couldn't be perfect, sure one could travel over obstacles and even travel further than a land dweller could but as Kaliri pointed out they couldn't always see the things below them due to trees and other objects blocking their view. "It seems that being able to fly is much like walking then. There are times when it is good and times when it can be a hindrance, I can't see much when I'm in the forest and yet you can't see much flying over a forest."

"I'm glad I met you then." Kaliri told the other mare truthfully, sure she looked a bit different from most of the Soquili Kaliri had met but she was helpful and kind that was -sadly - a rare trait these days. Half the time Kaliri ran across Soquili who were rude, ill tempered or just couldn't be bothered to help someone they didn't know. It was sad really - and it made her all the more determined to be and do something good in the world. Like Mercy, her foalhood hero who was now a Knight.
"You know now that I think about it there were a couple of foals born in my home herd like that...Their names were Poe and Lapin, Lapin wasn't all that different she got many traits from her father but Poe got these tentacles on her head that no is sure where they came from, I don't think anyone even notices that she's different anymore though." She mused thoughtfully before returning her attention to the present in time to catch the other mares words about flying. "It seems so and don't you Unicorns have special talents of your own? I've heard you can heal and the like, that must be useful."

Aquitaine smiled over at Kaliri. It was nice to meet someone who was not only pleasant to be around but also who appreciated those who helped out others. It was a rare thing in this world and Aquitaine would certainly remember this day and Kaliri because of it. It was one more good memory to add to the slowly growing pile of good memories now that she was older and not as affected by her looks and prejudice of others.
She listened to Kaliri tell of foals born in her herd that held strange features as well, at least one of them did. Tentacles were certainly an odd trait, but then again so was her hair dragon and his brothers exposed bones. "Sounds like these foals were affected by the same thing myself and my brothers were. Who knows there may be even more out there that have odd qualities about them." It was certainly possible, given how big these lands were and how many Soquili lived within them. "They likely got used to seeing here. I know even my parents took some time to get used to my odd looks, and those of my brothers, but now they don't think twice about them. The love me for who I am inside and surely that's how the herd see Poe as well." Aquitaine nodded. "Yes, nearly all unicorns have healing powers. Pure unicorns are the strongest healers, but those of mixed blood can also use the power as long as they possess a horn, though obviously it is weaker than that of a pure healing power. I don't have much power to use, seems whatever made me look like way also affected my healing, but I have learned herbs so that I can still help others without having to rely on my weakened powers."

Kaliri nodded slightly - she had heard rumors about a strange bit of magic in the land that periodically affected foals born during certain times of the year and while it had helped explain Poe's oddities she had mostly brushed it off as nonsense. She had just assumed that somewhere in Poe's father's family there must be a relative that had those traits. But that was before meeting Aquitaine...who by all accounts came from a nearly pure unicorn family, it didn't discount the possibility of her family having strange ancestors but it did seem to strengthen the whole whole 'magic' argument a little bit.
Ah well...a mystery for another time, Kaliri was fond of Poe and she rather like this Aquitaine mare as well...she supposed that the differences they had were not so very important in the grand scheme of things when it came to that. When the topic of conversation switched to healing she listened keenly, bobbing her head in acknowledgement as the mare outlined her own troubles. "Perhaps instead of trying to focus your magic on healing you should let the herbs do the work and try to strengthen their affects with whatever magic you do have. Kind of like..an extra boost." She suggested, although it was really just an off the wall suggestion, Kaliri wasn't even certain that unicorn magic worked that way but it made sense to her.
