The stallion slept fitfully. Nestled against his side was a white wicker basket inside of which lay one of his children. He had refused to leave the cave ever since he had discovered Jessamine's abrupt departure. Relic could not risk the safety of this last basket for anything. His satchel lay against the rock wall seemingly forgotten. He refused to sate the drive urging him to seek out more victims. He would continue to protectively watch over this basket. It was all he could do. His hooves felt tied as he imagined different scenarios of how to deal with this situation. The end result though always had him sticking close to the basket's side. He couldn't abandon his child. Not yet; possibly not ever.

It was too tight; too confining to stay inside any longer. The young foal's movements grew limited. She wanted out of this thing. As she positioned her body to ready herself she felt something pressing against one of the sides of what was rapidly becoming a prison. Her hooves lashed out repeatedly at the sides of whatever it was she was trapped in. Suddenly light began to weakly filter in through a hole that was becoming larger and larger. With one last kick her hoof and the rest of her leg burst through one of the sides. She pulled her leg back in just as quickly as if it had been burned. Freedom; she could taste it now. Somehow she began hearing a voice offering her encouragement to continue.

A faint stirring from within the basket had Relic getting to his feet in a hurry. Was it time? Would he finally be able to meet his child? His red eyes took in every minute tremble that the basket made. Suddenly a blood-red hoof shot out of the side and Relic felt his eyes widen. Gently he nuzzled the top of the basket before giving the foal inside a little vocal encouragement. Soon, perhaps a little too soon, Relic watched as the rest of the basket was torn asunder. A pale white filly lay on her side. Her tail was pure brown and her mane was brown with a small streak of white. Relic had a wide grin on his face as his eyes fell on a small red marking on his daughter's flank. It was a crescent moon. Surely that meant that this foal was truly a part of him.

Almost as to let his daughter rest Relic gently pulled his black shawl over her sleeping form. "My little Sangria," The name came to his lips almost too quickly but Relic didn't contemplate changing it at all. He'd captured his daughter's name and put it to use almost immediately lest he wake and find that this was all just a dream.

The basket was gone. However she was exhausted. She lay on her side feeling cold air wash over her unprotected form. Her flanks heaved from the strain of breaking out of what appeared to be a ... a - the word fled from her mind. Now it was all she could do to raise her head a little and have her eyes relay a large, blurry figure to her brain. She took in the scent of something else before her body gave up the struggle to remain awake. As sleep overtook her she felt the strangest sensation on her side and heard a weak voice whispering to her. Her last remembered thought was that of one questioning her name for the first time. Who is Sangria? Is that me?

He could not help but marvel at the tiny figure that lay at his feet. This precious gift; had he really helped in this being's creation? Relic snorted softly. There was a small sudden surge of anger towards Jessamine. Essentially she had ruined the perfect moment by her absence and had ripped the chance of what might have been a normal childhood from Sangria's future by taking her two siblings away. Now she would grow up only knowing her father and having him be the one that she looked up to. Relic knelt down beside his daughter; gently nuzzling her sleeping form as his eyes began to close. Things would have to change around here from now on. He'd have to play the responsible parental figure.
