Chelsie had taken Lord Baldur's rather unorthodox offer to the mares in the Glory with great joy. There weren't any winged stallions in the Glory other than Lord Baldur himself, and she would never presume to offer herself to her leader. No, she was more willing to take a leave of absence from the rest of the members, and head out in search of some handsome stallion, who she could have all to herself...At least for one night, maybe two. So she said farewell to her friends and headed off in search of her dream encounter.

She decided to stick to familiar territory, and headed East along the base of the Icefury. The treeline was well enough back from the mountain range, that the sky was open overhead. The perfect conditions for spotting her prey, as she had come to think of her tryst partner-to-be. Three days of traveling though had shown no results. There had been plenty of wings in the air overhead, but none of them had belonged to a stallion, or a mare for that matter. As she reached the base of the mountain where the Azure Rush begins its journey to the sea, she had about given up hope of returning to the Glory, carrying her progeny within her belly.

Rhu had once again decided to travel beyond the river that marked the borders of his homeland. A loner by nature he had no ties and traveled where he pleased. On this fine day he had decided to take a flight path along the base of the Icefurys. He flew leisurely not far above the ground, letting himself rise and fall with the hills that marked the beginning of the mountains.
Not really paying attention to anything but letting himself feel the wind under his wings it wasn't long before he looked down and saw the shimmering of sun off of water. Figuring that near water was as good a place as any for a rest he settled down on the eastern side of the river bank.

Chelsie was refreshing herself at the rivers edge when a shadow blotted out the sun, which had been shining down upon her. She looked up just as the shadow came to a landing across the river from where she stood. A beautiful, black winged unicorn stood before her, lowering his head to drink from the cold, mountain fed river. What to do, she thought. Has he seen me? Should I say something to draw his attention? Now was the moment of truth, and she had no idea what to do. She waited a moment and then decided to throw caution to the wind.

"Greetings," she called to him.

Flicking his ears, Rhu thought he caught the sound of a voice carrying over the rushing river. He lifted his head, the crystalline water running from his soft muzzle in rivulets. He perked his ears and looked across to the other bank. When his eyes fell on the female, for it was no doubt that a creature of such beauty could be anything but, he was struck with curiosity. Why would one such as she be out here alone? He saw no others and, after a quick check with his other senses, knew it to be true.
On a quick decision, he spread his wings and launched himself into the air. Easily crossing the river. He made sure to land a distance from her, as he had no wish to startle her or make her feel threatened.
"Hello." he greeted in his deep, rich tone. "Are you in need of assistance?"

Chelsie saw him raise his head and search for her . When he spread his wings and took to the air she gasped. He was so beautiful. Would this handsome stallion find her pleasing enough to want to have a tryst with her? She would be so honored if he did, and she could return to the Glory, assured that at least one of her children would have its father's powerful wings. She watched as he landed a safe distance and greeted her. Assistance? She wasn't really sure if that was the right word or not, but she answered him anyway.

"Hello. I'm Chelsie, and you will have to decide for yourself if it's assistance I need."

Rhu's ears flicked backwards and forwards as he was slightly confused by her question. He pawed his toe at the earth and shook his mane figuring that he would let it go as the lady's whim.
"Lady Chelsie, I am Rhuin. May I approach?"
He stretched his wings one last tine, to make sure they wouldn't cramp up after his long flight, and folded them tightly to his back and sides. He was a bit weary but figured that, even with her cryptic answer, that a Lady had more priority than his rest.

"Please do my dear Rhu. May I call you Rhu? I mean no disrespect, and will refrain if you do not like it." She tossed her head slightly, causing her mane to swirl in the cool breeze coming down off the mountain. At this particular time, she was wishing that the fairies had not ruined her beautiful, pristine white body with their blue dye. She thought this black beauty of a stallion would have preferred her better had she been starkly white in color. But that was a moot issue, for she could do nothing about it now. She could only hope that he found her charming and lovely enough to want to mate with her. She waited with baited breath for him to draw closer. She almost quivered at the thought of his touch.

He closed the distance between them, drawing close to her. Inclining his head respectfully he replied, "Of course you may call me Rhu, Lady."
Now that he was closer to her, he took the time to peruse her looks. She really was quite charming. The vibrant blue of her coat was eye catching. Probably not just to the likes of him.
"As it is your business, I will not question why you are out here alone. However, if it would please you, I would like to request to be your companion for the night. If not for company, then for protection. For you never know what may be lurking in these wilds."
Though Rhu did not consider himself to be the most reputable male, he figured he was probably better company then a hungry griffin. Or a rogue of their own kind just looking for some sport for that matter. Now wasn't that an ironic thought. He brushed it off and returned his mind to the mare before him.

Did her ears deceive her? Had he just requested permission to spend the night with her? She fought hard to contain her joy, and won. She coolly replied, "Why Rhu, I would be most honored to have you as my companion this evening, and other other evening you might be available." Was that too forward of her, she wondered. Oh well, it was said, and there was no retracting it now. She caught his eye as he looked her over, and she returned it with her own cursory examination of him, now that he had closed the distance between them. He had beautiful markings all along his face and down his neck, and cascading down his front legs. The same markings also donned his hind legs and the ridges of his magnificent wings. He was indeed a superb stallion, and she hoped that the children they would produce would be just as magnificent.

Rhu lowered his head and dropped his shoulders in a half bow. Well, he thought to himself, It's not like there will be anyone to miss me back home. "My lady," he replied smoothly, "It would be my pleasure to be your companion for as long as you plan to travel the area." He righted himself and glanced over the area. It was too open by the river, he decided.
" If you are through refreshing yourself, would it please you to retreat to the shelter of the trees?" With an incline of his head he indicated the treeline across the short expanse of meadow along the river's edge.

My, he was a gentle stallion. She'd not experienced this sort of treatment from the stallions in the Glory, and she quite liked it. She looked at where he indicated and thought his suggestion made sense. No reason for them to remain out in the open where anyone could watch. "It would please me immeasurably," she said, and as they walked to the trees she continued, "I suppose I should tell you that I come from Lord Baldur's Glory, which is a few days journey to the west, in the foothills of the Icefury. So I am not entirely without skills, out here by myself. It is our duty to defend the land from those who live beyond the mountains. Where do you come from Rhu? Do you live in the Meadow? Or have you just recently arrived here?"

He stayed close by her side as they crossed to the trees. He was enjoying her company and was pleasantly surprised when she spoke of being able to take care of herself. However he saw no reason to not stay close to her so he took advantage.
"Forgive me lady, it is not that I assumed you could not protect yourself. It is just that my native land is a very unfriendly place." He tossed his head, thinking of those he lived with. " For you see, I am not from these parts. I travel them occasionally, when I need a rest from trying to survive. I am from the land across the river know as the Shadowed Drift to you. It is a dark place and not one I would suggest you seek out. Even as capable as you are." He shook his mane out. "Come, let us talk of happier things." He slipped between the first of the trees. "Do you have family back with your Glory?"

The shadowed drift? She seemed to remember hearing something about that when she lived in the meadow, before coming to the Glory. So he was a seasonal traveler in the land. She'd never met someone from any other land since arriving in the Meadow. She was intrigued now, and wanted to know all about his homeland, but then he asked her about family of her own, back in the Glory.

"Well, I consider every member of the Glory as family, but that is not what you meant is it?" she said with a slight laugh in her voice. He was fishing to find out if she had a mate or not. "No, I have no actual family, nor have I given my heart to another." She pondered for a brief moment on whether or not she should tell him her reason for being out here on her own. She decided against it for the moment, hoping that he would make the decision to mate with her on his own, and not because of some duty she felt compelled to fulfill.

He considered a moment what it would be like to live in a Glory where one could consider all of the members as family. It would probably be pleasant. Unlike his own Glory at home where to survive you had to prove that you could not be taken down easily. Among the males anyway. At least the females were treated with respect. Mostly.
"I'm sorry to hear that, lady. Though it is surprising that one so lovely such as yourself does not have a heart companion. At least you do have your Glory to keep you well, as I assume they do since you so easily call them family."
He stopped walking once there were a ways into the woods in hopes that she would follow suit. It was darker under the branches, giving it a more intimate feeling.

She stopped when he did and said, "My duties in the Glory are to watch after the little ones while their parents are about their own duties. Some call me a nursemaid, others a nanny of sorts. At the moment, we only have three young colts, and their mother is still nursing them, so I have some free time before she goes out on patrol again. I think it would be nice though, to have my own to care for. Have you any children Rhu? Do you have a heart companion?" She'd not heard that term used before to describe ones life mate, but she liked the sound of it much better. It was also her turn to fish for information. She didn't think he had one, or he wouldn't be here with her, under the shelter of the trees. At least she hoped he wasn't that sort of male.
