Although she was in no particular rush, the baku was more than a little excited to return to her dorm room. In each hand, she clutched two grocery bags--bags that seemed to be filled to the point where they were bulging with a variety of different ingredients and foodstuffs. With all this to carry, the small ghoul had adopted a strange, waddling walk in order to get where she wanted.

When she finally arrived at Amityville, moving past the gates that welcomed her into the school grounds, Xiu carefully lowered the bags onto the ground and (much less gently) dropped herself down with a sigh. Her arms ached a little, but she encouraged herself by telling herself that it was only a little ways to go! After all, all she had to do was get this stuff back to the room in the demon dorms, and then she could finally start cooking with that new recipe book her uncle sent her.

...But until then, it wouldn't hurt to lie here for a little bit to regain her strength, right? Lifting her head to cast a quick glance around, she settled back down and shut her eyes with a little sigh. She would just...lie here for a few minutes.

...

...

Or, you know, an hour.

It did not take an hour for a disturbance to show up, in the form of a ghost carrying a box of ... something or another. Mori had been doing a pretty good job following the stranger across campus, unfamiliar with it as he was, but as soon as she headed into the dormitories, the ghost was lost. Several minutes and a few guesses eventually led him to her room, though, and the samurai rapped his knuckles on the door with confidence.

While he awaited the occupant's response, he peered at the box for the first time, suddenly wondering just what he was delivering.

The sudden knock was enough to cause the ghoul to jump in surprise, as she had not been expecting any visitors this evening. Although she knew that it may have just been a friend dropping by unannounced--such was not a particularly rare occurrence--there was still some wariness in the ghoul's eyes as she moved towards the door and slowly pulled it open.

She immediately noted that the boil standing in the hallway was not a familiar face to her. However, despite the flags that popped up in her mind to warn her that this supposed student may actually be a Hunter in disguise, Xiu knew better than to judge someone on a first impression. She pulled the door open a little more, the corners of her lips tilting upwards in a friendly smile.

"Um, hello! What may I do for you?"

As the door opened, the blue-skinned ghost hovering outside held the box up for the one inside to see.

"Hey, did you drop this?"

Mori's tone was that of a confident young boil. His smile was that of someone who had gotten the wrong room with this question at least twice already. He thought the ghoul inside looked nicer than the last student he had bothered, at least. While doing good for good's sake was fine, Mori secretly hoped to get a friend out of this quest. Preferably someone who could help him learn his way around just a bit better.

Xiu's eyes suddenly widened in surprise, and then in the next second, she disappeared.

...Or not. No, the petite baku had simply dropped out of view, hastily bending at the waist in a low bow. "Ah--I'm very sorry for the trouble! For you to come all this way just to deliver something I dropped out of carelessness..." The look on her face was a little sheepish when she finally straightened up, her lips curled upwards in a wry smile. "But thank you very much! These are some of the pastries I purchased from one of the cafes near here. They're very good, and--"

--Ah, she was blabbering. Xiu promptly shut her mouth, but her expression became somewhat thoughtful as she stared at the boil in front of her. Finally, after a moment of silence, she offered him a friendly smile and a wag of her tail.

"Would you like to join me for some tea and pastries? I want to thank you for your help!"

"You're welcome!"

Mori beamed at her show of gratitude, pleased that she was thankful for the trouble he had taken. His smile went a bit dry, though, as she invited him in for food. He had honestly not really thought much about eating since he had ... well, arrived here, and the samurai found himself wondering if it were even possible for him to eat solid things. Or taste them.

"Tea and pastries? I guess I can try some." Then, with a curious tilt of his head, he asked, "What was in the box I brought?"

"Just some spookies and desserts I picked up from a nearby cafe," Xiu grinned sheepishly as she gratefully took the box from it, "But yes, if I'm not keeping you from anything, please come in!"

She stepped aside to let him enter, moving to put the box on top of her kitchen counter. "You're a new face around these parts. Could you have just recently enrolled?" As she set a tea kettle onto the stove, she turned to offer him a smile.

"I'm Xiuying, a third year. You can just call me Xiu, though!"

"Sure, thanks," he replied with a grin. Crossing her threshhold, he paused just inside and bowed at the waist.

"I'm Hira Morifune," the samurai told her. "Surname first, so you can call me Morifune. Or I guess Mori if you want. I am new, so..." he trailed off, glancing back over his shoulder to the demon dorm hallway. "Not totally sure who everyone is yet, or where they live.

"Nice to meet you, Xiu." He crossed his arms, tucking his hands into the opposite sleeves. How fortunate that he was meeting an upperclassman! "How do you like the school here? What classes should I avoid?" Mori laughed a little as he surveyed her dorm.

Perking up when he bowed, she hastily scrambled out of the kitchen to return it, the grin on her face rather sheepish. "Ah--Mori, then?" Whenever she was given the option to call someone by a shortened name, Xiu usually went for that.

She smiled at the mention of him being a new student. "You'll meet everyone soon enough, I'm sure. There are obviously a few, um, troublemakers among the student body, but most of the people here are very pleasant! And ah, right--please take a seat and make yourself at home!"

She motioned towards the couch to indicate that he could take a seat while she trotted back into the kitchen to get everything ready. The sound of clanking plates, cups, and utensils overlapped her voice as she continued to speak. "Truth be told, I really do love this school! There aren't any particular classes that should be avoided, I feel, though..."

Xiu trailed off with a little frown, and when she walked back out into the living room with a tray of tea and pastries in hand, the expression on her face betrayed her sudden concern. "Er, as a tip though, I would be certain to do some training if you aren't familiar with defending yourself."

The boil nodded at the invitation and drifted over to a seat; he settled down onto it rather than floating above when he actually sat down. "Thank you!"

Mori nodded as he took in her responses. His gaze trailed upwards as he considered self-defense, though. Then, speaking slowly as though it took some time to find the right words, replied, "I ... remember something like fighting. From before I came here, you know?" Then he trailed off and shrugged, unsure of where, if anywhere, he had wanted to go with that thought.

The samurai shrugged it off a moment later, a cocky grin returning to his thin lips. "But I guess if I want to be properly good at it, and if all the classes are good, I should just take all the fighting and training classes they offer, right?" Flawless logic.

"Ah, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to..." She trailed off a little sheepishly, her expression apologetic as she gave a little bow of her head. From his tone, she had assumed that the past was not something that he wanted to remember or talk about, and she had unwittingly made him try thinking back to that time. In hindsight, while she had a few friends from each of the different races, she did not know many ghosts. It must have been frustrating to only possess a vague memory of one's living life.

Xiu smiled at his sound logic, setting the tray down on the coffee table in front of her guest. "That would work! Though...unfortunately, I don't think that we have any self-defense classes here at Amity. I'm sure you would be able to find a student-run group or club pertaining to that field though." As she spoke, she carefully filled one of the cups with tea, picking it up and holding it out to him with both hands.

"There are a lot of fun clubs though, if you're interested in joining one!"

Don't worry about it! C: You have perfect timing, actually--I was really busy last week too, so I didn't tag at all OTL

If Mori was perturbed by her bringing up old memories, it did not show. Really, if he could not remember, then how could it bother him?

He leaned forward eagerly, elbows on the table and nodded as he listened, then rose halfway to his feet to accept the cup of tea when Xiu offered it. "Clubs sound cool, too! Which one is the best?" He watched her over the cup of tea as he blew on it lightly (a few tendrils of ectoplasm mingling with the steam), then took a sip without making any indication he planned to clarify what he meant by "best".

Ah, the...best club? The baku blinked at the boil blankly for a moment before emitting a light laugh, reaching forward to pour herself some tea as well. "'Best' is a little vague, no? Some clubs are smaller than others, but it ultimately depends on what you're looking for!"

She paused then to take a sip of her tea, her tail swishing behind her in contentment at way the drink warmed her. "Let me see...we have a Fitness Club, N.A.P Club, Fright Music Club..." Xiu's lips curved into a smile as she took another sip of her tea, "My friend and I run the Baking Club as well, though I'm not sure if that's something that would interest you?" But speaking of that...

"If I may ask, what kinds of things do you like to do?" Perhaps it would be easier to find him an appropriate club if she knew what his interests were first.

"Fitness sounds cool," Mori acknowledged with a nod, then took a long drink of tea. Then he set the cup down on the table, turning it with his fingers and shrugged. The samurai opened his mouth to answer her question, then appeared to change his mind regarding his response once, then twice, shaking his head each time.

"You know," he finally managed. "I haven't been here long. And I'm not really sure. I do a lot of jogging and some swimming because I like to be outside, but other than that...." Trailing off, he lifted his shoulders in another shrug, and looked back up at the ghoul with his grin back in place.

"I'd probably be really good at cooking, though, I bet. When does your club thing meet?"

Xiu watched him curiously, but remained silence as she waited for him to speak. His head shakes were met with a patient smile, and she used this time to take more sips of her tea before finally setting it down.

Aah, so he was into physical activities, then? It was quite the contrast to the baku ghoul, who--aside from training--typically preferred to stay indoors. She was therefore quite surprised when Mori actually inquired about the Baking Club. Was he...was he actually interested?

"A-ah! Well, Junko and I have yet to set a particular day and time, but it should be soon! Um, if you have a phone, I'd be happy to contact you a week before the meeting!" And if he didn't have a phone, it certainly wouldn't be difficult to seek him out in the school, she was sure. Amity was large, but it usually wasn't too hard to find a particular student.
