Personally I don't see hoarding holiday items as a good investment unless you have very little funds to use and all the time in the world.
â—‹Spirited 2k6 Candy Cane's are inflated!!! Your chances on getting a lot @ around abp seems unlikely to me.

Lowest Buy Now Price: 2,410g
Average Buy Price: 2,225g
Will likely be less hard to sell when December comes along.
However lets say you start hoarding them @ about 2k a piece and be optimistic and say gaia does not release a candy cane item this year and in which its likely that you will be able to sell them for about 6-8k which seemed to be the average on last years graph in December.
You're looking at about 4-6k in profit per candy cane.
Say you buy 20.
So you're looking at about 80-120k in profit.
So i recommend buying ALOT of candy canes to make it worth while...
because to me it seems illogical to spend 40k then wait till December which is 3 months away just to get back 80-120k in profit from buying 20 of these things!
seems pointless, your gold can be invested in allot better things.
For example you can invest in one advance chance bundles and in only 2 weeks get the same amount of profit you would compared to the very risky investment of 20 candy canes 3 months from now....
I hope this helps.
If you do decide to invest i wish you the best of luck! Tell us your progress~
