It wasn’t that she wasn’t excited for the upcoming baby or for her mother’s expectancy, but to a sixteen year old student of St. Magdelena’s Seminary by day, sailor Senshi of the White Moon Court by night, it was simply a lot to take in for her. Gwendolyn Caspian had been willing to accept or handle a lot of different things in her life; she was Super Sailor Tsui, Senshi of Tigers, able and willing to take on any challenge thrown ahead of her with little fear or apprehension (though it had landed her into her fair share of trouble in the past). One challenge that she could not, and would not accept, however, was admitting that Micah’s namesake was part of the family, and Gwen would have rather have taken on the entire Negaverse on her own, maybe even corruption, rather than ever accept him into her family. She was a Caspian, and he was a Lionel, and despite the rather delicious irony that the family names of both parties were related to the two big cats of the world, it would also mean that her upcoming baby brother or sister would be a Lionel as well.
And therein lie the problem of the young Gwen, who had always wanted a younger sibling of her own to dote and then boss over in the later years, much like Maddy had done to her (though given that she was offering her a place to stay, free of rent, and keeping her away from the man that stole their mother’s head, then Gwen figured that Maddy had every right to lord over her.)
It was never a matter of jealousy or fear of all of the attention being dragged away from her in lieu of the new baby, as Gwen could imagine that it’d make her nightly patrols all the more easier for her to sneak in and out now that there was a baby to steal away all of Maddy’s attention. Gwen felt that she was “self-sufficient” when it came to getting attention, either it have been from a family member, some friends and allies, and even from her enemies. Giving Gwen anymore attention would have been damaging to her own pride, as though she did everything just for the attention. She didn’t want to be coddled. Admired, maybe, or made weary of, even feared, but her enemies, but never did she want any of her friends to worry about her being jealous over the arrival of a new baby. That simply wasn’t Gwen’s, or Tsui’s, style.
What DID grind her gears, however, was the fact that this child, whether it becoming her new baby brother or sister, would be cursed with the name Lionel and not the proud name of Caspian. There was no legal way around it, and Gwen lamented this. Now, she would have not choice but to accept a Lionel into her heart, but in the end, that wasn’t the baby’s fault, was it?
It was a step in the right direction for Gwen, but she’d never be willing to admit to it. She didn’t like Micah Lionel, the man that stole her mother’s heart after she swore to never love again, but that was no basis for her to automatically hate her unborn sibling. Perhaps she could make him or her an honorary member of the Caspian family? There were seven more months to work her way around it, and when it came to putting off such trivial civilian matters, Gwen was a pro. For now, she’d simply have to accept that truth, and accept that there might be some things from the other side that were worth keeping. Micah the fat rat was a prime example of this truth, was he not?
