Still within the controlled zone of Konoha's forces a small village exists just twenty minutes outside the walls of Konoha. Supplying the majority share of Konoha's rice product the village is as much a strategic assets as it is a historical one. Founded roughly near the same time as Konoha the village has been around for hundreds of years and has remained within the same family's control. Home of the Inechi family, warm friendly people can always be found here. To get to the village one must spend a few moments on the path leading through the Konoha forest before turning off down the road to the village. Work can often be found here for young ninja looking to make some money.

[Isolated time, No interactions available, Wisdom DC: 10 above mod, 1st rule of Shiro's training: don't talk about Shiro's training]
Roll 1: Pass
Shiro strolled about his family's house with a sleepy look betraying his inner sense of boredom. He was at home currently because he didn't have to go to school and none of his friends wanted to play. The young boy was, as one would guess, bored as a result. In seeking an activity to kill time the boy remembered that he had several books to read. One in particular lifted his spirits slightly as he considered the prospect of training. Learning to wield the sword was a goal of his and one of the books that his mother had gifted to him dealt with just that. Quickly running back to his room the boy dove onto his bed and grabbed his back pack. His hand fished around inside until it felt what it was looking for; The book was known as "The Book of Five Rings and it described in detail the sword style of Niten. He then searched for and found a quiet place to read, so as not to be disturbed. Then he opened the book and skipped to the section titled "The Water Cahpter". The heart of the martial art of the Two-Heavens Style (Niten) takes water as its foundation and exercises the practice of advantage. Because of this, I have named this "The Water Chapter," and here write about the swordsmanship of this style. The name alone made him become excited. Water was the element of his idol, Tobirama. To find a sword style that was derived from that same element made him quit excited.

Roll 2: Pass
This seemed almost perfect to him, an ancient sword style which shared the element of his idol, to be revived now in the present. The feeling inside of him felt good, almost familiar as thought about the prospects of what he was now under taking. By the time he finished learning this style he figured he'd be ready for real missions as a genin. Thus he continued to read. This Way is, in all regards, difficult to write about in detail with the mind just as it is. But even if the words do not seem to connect, you should be able to perceive its principles naturally. You should deeply consider what is written in this book, word by word, character by character. If you think about it indifferently, you are likely to diverge from the Way many times. Concerning the principles of the martial arts, there may also be places where they are described in the manner of a contest of individuals, but it is essential that you understand these principles to be for a battle of opposing armies of ten thousand men, as well, and that you see them in a large way. Shiro took in the words that were written in the book, word by word, character by character. Doing his best to take them to heart. He decided to put his full heart into the work. He would study the essence of this book and master its contents.

Roll 3: Fail
His mind chewed the words, as he processed each one's meaning in his head, dissecting their meanings, grouping together concepts, learning. Of course that was the overall goal, to learn. His mind was good at. Ever since he had been little Shiro had shown propensity for learning which had never decayed even slightly as grew older. Thus he thoroughly enjoyed what he was doing, how his time was currently being spent. In this Way, especially, if you misperceive it or become lost just a little, you will into distortion. You will not reach the essence of the martial arts by merely looking at this book. Think that what is written down here was done just for you, and do not consider simply looking at it, familiarize yourself with it or trying to imitate it. Rather, you should consider these principles as though they were discovered from your own mind, and continually make great efforts to make them a physical part of yourself Shiro did as the book said but doubt lingered and clouded his mind over into a fog. He had to ask himself the obvious "what id I can't? What if I do fail and I end up straying from the Way?" these thoughts troubled him deeply. However he couldn't let, no if he wanted to do this then he needed to proceed with confidence. So the boy determined to reread the section, paying close attention to detail throughout its entirety.

Roll 4: Pass
Of course, repeating the section took time, time which could have been used reading new material. However the boy felt that it needed to be done, that to go without doing so could jeopardize the whole experience. Thus he could afford no mistakes, no failures. This was all or nothing. Either he understood it or he failed to learn it properly. Thus there was no room for errors. With that in mind he flipped the page, turning to a new pairing in the book and with it a new a section within the "The Water Chapter". The frame of mind for the martial arts read the new section title. In the Way of the Martial Arts, do not let your frame of mind be any different from your everyday mind. In both everyday and military events, your mind should be straightforward, neither drawn too tight nor allowed to slacken even a little. Keep the mind in the exact center, not allowing it to become sidetracked; let it sway peacefully, not allowing it to stop doing so for even a moment. You should investigate these things thoroughly. Shiro listened to the words of this book and thought upon their meanings. This no simple task, one had to truly understand what was written or else it was no different than a child's picture book, meaningless. Thus he deeply and carefully considered the contents. Piecing them together like a jigsaw puzzle as he investigated deeper into them. He knew that what they meant but carrying out the task given by the book was harder than it sounded.

Roll 5: Fail
How was he to make his everyday mind the same for all events? It was certainly a quandary to a boy who had only begun his military clear a few days prior. Sure he was making progress in skill but the Academy only opened the door to military ninja life. It was in the genin cell that someone truly became a soldier. Despite that here he was, needing that mind now so that he could posses himself to learn this sword style. A quandary indeed. Do not let your mind stand still even when you are in repose, but do not let it speed up even when you are involved in quick actions. The mind should not be distracted by the body, nor the body distracted by the mind. Be very watchful of the mind, but less so of the body; let the mind be replete without being the least bit overloaded. Though the mind appears weak on the surface, it should be strong at the bottom. Act so that your opponent cannot understand your mind. The man whose body is small should bear everything in mind about the man who's body is large, and the man whose body is large should bear everything in mind about the man whose body is mall. But whether the body be large or small, keep the mind straight and in a way that will allow no personal preferences. All these things are essential. Essential, so many things contained her were essential. It was like someone had taken years of accumulated experience, boiled away the unnecessary and distilled out the necessary into a single volume of instructions. Despite all that, grasping all the concepts being rapidly thrown at him was still difficult for the eleven year old boy. He sort of understood the part about people of different sizes being absolutely aware of those differences. Between two fighters size grants different strengths and weakness. Knowing those gives one a view into the other person's mind, allowing for some measure of prediction on what that person would do in a given situation.

Roll 6: Pass
Still he continued to think about what he had just read. This was serious business and serious business required serious attention to detail. With no room for error he had to succeed and even if it took him longer than he'd like to grasp some of the more difficult concepts the boy knew that he to take that time so that he would get it right. Leaving no weakness in his style. Once he felt confident that he had come to terms with the material and grasped the meaning of it he flipped to the next page in the book and continued reading. Do not let the mind become clouded inside; keep it broad, and place your wisdom in that broad place. It is very important to polish both wisdom and mind earnestly. Sharpen your wisdom, distinguish principle and it's opposite in the world, learn the good and bad of all things, experience all the arts and accomplishments and their various Ways, and act in a way so that you will not be taken in by anyone. This is the heart of the wisdom of the martial arts. This part seemed simple enough, know the advantages and the disadvantages of all things, keep the mind calm and always continue to grow in both mind and wisdom. There was clearly much impotence to these simple ideas though. Much like most of life, several simple things when combined together could create a powerful force.

Roll 7: Pass
He continued to think on these words for sometime. There was much wisdom to be found in the pages of the book. But they were also key to his learning of the sword style. There is something unique in the wisdom of the martial arts. Even when the action is extraordinarily lively on the battlefield , you should take the principles of the martial arts to the extreme and keep your mind unmoved. You should investigate this thoroughly. The boy was unsure about this one, there wasn't much to go off of and he wasn't sure it meant by keeping his mind unmoved. Was it perhaps talking about keeping the mind centered? Keeping up an awareness of things maybe?

Roll 8: Pass
Shiro continued to mull over possible interpretations for a while before deciding to move on. His finger gently gripped the top of the page and then turn it over. With the turn of the page came more new content. Appearance in the martial arts. read the new section title. In body posture your face is neither turned down nor turned up, it is neither turned to the side nor distorted. Your eyes are not confused and your brow is not knit; narrow the space between your eyebrows, and do not move your eyeballs at all. Narrow the eyes without expressing a glimmer. With your face tranquil and the line of your nose straight, you should have a slight sensation of sticking your chin out. The line of the back of your neck is straight. Put strength into the nape of your nape of your neck, and think of your body as one from the shoulders down. Drop both shoulders, keep your back straight, do not stick out your rear and put strength from your knees to the front of your feet. Extend your stomach so that your hips will not be bent. To tighten the wedge, so to speak, the scabbard of your short sword should be carried at the belly and the sash tied so that it will not loosen. This is the teaching of "tightening the wedge." Fascinating, was the word that he used to describe the passage. The next time he went to the dojo he'd have to try to mimic what was written here.

Roll 9: Pass
He was unfamiliar with the posture and positioning which had previously been described but that wasn't about to stop him continuing to absorb the wisdom from the book. In all things concerning the body in the martial arts, make the everyday body the body for the martial arts, and the body for the martial arts the everyday body. This is essential and should be examined thoroughly. This one was pretty obvious on two levels. The first was that you needed to be prepared for martial action at all times. The second level was that the skills of the martial artist are applicable in all things.

Roll 10: Pass
Thankfully the skills of a shinobi were applicable in most things. So it wouldn't be too hard to make himself a shinobi at all times so that he would always be ready for action. Using the eyes in the martial arts read the new section title. In using the eyes, do so in a large and encompassing way. There is observation and there is seeing. The eye of observation is strong. The eye of seeing is week. To see the faraway as nearby and the nearby as faraway is essential to the martial arts. To know your opponent's sword, yet not to "see" it at all is very important in the martial arts. You should make great efforts in this. The use of the yes is the same for the martial arts whether in individual combat or in large confrontations. It is essential that your eyes do not move and that you are able to see on both sides. It is difficult to understand such a thing when, suddenly, the situation becomes more chaotic. Learn what is written in this book, master the use of the eyes and do not change that under any circumstances. This is something you should investigate thoroughly. Once more he found the reading to be simple. With his understanding in mind Shiro went forward and continued reading.

Roll 1: Pass
Having reached the end of the page, Shiro's finger gripped the top of the page and turned it over to a new section. The way to hold a swordread the new section title. To grasp a sword, give your thumb and index fingers a sense of flotation. Keep your middle finger neither tight nor loose, and tighten your ring and little fingers. It is wrong to have a relaxed grasp; you should take up the sword with the idea of cutting your opponent down. When you do this, you should hold your sword so that there is no change in your grasp nor the possibility of your hand contracting into an uncontrollable position. Whether bracing, parrying, striking, or restraining your opponent's sword, you should be intent on moving only your thumb and index finger a little. In all events, grasp does not change when doing this, whether the act involves the testing of new swords on prisoners or corpses, or is taking place in a real fight. In all things, whether it be the sword or the hand, immobility is undesirable. Immobility means a dead hand; mobility means a living hand. You should understand this well. Once more he was going to have to test out this description once he headed to the dojo.

Roll 2: Pass
Shiro continued to read and soon reached a new section. Use of the feet read the new section title. In the carriage of the feet, you should float your toenails a little and step strongly with your heals. In the use of the feet, you should walk as usual, whether the case calls for large, small, quick or slow strides. Feet that seem to fly, float, or be immobile are, all three, undesirable. There is something important in this Way called the Yin-Yang Foot, and it is considered essential. The Yin-Yang Foot means never moving just one foot. With the Yin-Yang Foot, you step right and left, right and left, whether striking, pulling back or parrying a blow. I repeat: you should never step with just one foot. You should investigate this thoroughly. With a feeling that he had learned quite a bit, Shiro marked the place and closed the book.

Now after school, Shiro once again found himself to bored. All of his friends from the Academy were busy training or catching up on the jutsu lessons that they missed where as Shiro was ahead of the class without a doubt. So now the question was, what should he do? Fortunately his mom was home so she could probably help. Before asking for help though, he needed something specefic otherwise she might pick something that was less then fun. The young boy mulled this over for quite some time as he searched for the right thing to train. After some deliberation he settled on training chakra control. After all, if he wanted to be a powerful suiton user he was going to need a lot of chakra control. With his mind made up he went in search of his mother, asking his family members if they'd seen her. It didn't take too long, and now was going to be the slightly harder part. Getting her to help even though she was so busy.

"Ano, Kaa-chan, can you help me train chakra control?" he asked her flat out

"Eh? Shiro, that's a little beyond the Academy. Why do you need help with that Shi-kun?"

"I've completed all of the required jutsu for the academy but there's still a few days to graduation. So I want to make myself a better pick for the jounin sensei."

"Sugoi! That's my Shi-kun. Okay then tell you what, I think this might be a little advanced but I think you can do it Shi-kun. You're going to learn to walk up a tree."

Shiro's brow raised in question to his mother's statement. He was confused as to how climbing a tree could help with chakra control. Was it not a test of strength? Sensing his confusion his mother motioned for him to sit.

Shi-kun, by concentrating chakra to the soles of your feet you can cling to number of different hard surfaces. In this case you can use chakra to walk straight up a tree. In this training you need to find and maintain a constant stream of the right amount of chakra to properly stick to the tree. Use too little and you won't stick, use too much and you'll be pushed right off the tree by your own chakra.

"So it's like the story of Goldy Locks and the Three Bears then? I need to find the amount that's just right?."

That's right Shi-kun! Just like Goldy Locks.

TWith that in mind Shiro moved over to a nearby tree, he clapped his hands together and paused for a moment as he gathered the determination to swiftly complete this training and in doing so squire a new skill. The boy then concentrated some chakra to his feet, before running straight at the tree without reservation. He was going to go up, that's what he had decided and there was no other way. Upon making contact with the base of the tree he lost no speed, soon he was traveling upwards, one step, then two, then four he went. However his feet began to slide, loosing contact, gravity taking hold and pulling him back down. It was then that he had to turn and come back down, lest he fall down.

Very good Shi-kun! Now you need to find the right level of chakra and keep it maintained.

Shiro found his mother's words to be quite encouraging as the raised up his spirits and really got him in the training mood. With his spirits high he continued to practice this age old technique that his mother was now passing down to him. His first few attempts had been good and he was sure that this technique would surely come to him as easily as the others that he had recently learned did. With face that brimmed with confidence he ran towards the tree that he was practicing on. Right before reaching the base of the tree the boy concentrated his chakra to the base of his feet to create the needed attraction to stick to the tree. His feet made the connection and then he started up the tree. However he felt as if the tree was pushing him away and then before he realized his own chakra had pushed the boy away from the tree, leaving him hanging in the air as gravity took over. The laws of physics then pulled him back to ground, bringing his body to rest on the ground.

"痛い!やれやれ 、よくなかった." [Ouch! *sigh* that wasn't good.] he muttered while rubbing his backside. After that one he was sure that his butt was going to be bruised.

Shi-kun!His mother gasped as she watched him fall from the tree. She made a slight motion as if to reach out and catch him but quickly realized that it was too late. However she was at his side in an instant to make it all better and protect her baby.

"I'm okay mom, really. I'm going to be a ninja soon so stuff like falling during training doesn't bother me." he reassured her. She simply smiled and acknowledged her sons progress with a nod. While she was worried about him, Yumei was incredibly proud of her son. She knew that he was talented and if any of her children were to become ninja she was glad that it was Shiro. She had a feeling that he would be able to easily surpass all of the women from Isehana in the ninja arts. Obviously the war frightened her, as it was usually the inexperienced who died first when battles occured but she had a trust that his Jounin instructor would keep her boy safe until he could fight on his own.

After his mother laughed a little and rubbed his head she motioned for Shiro to get back to his training. After all, he still had a long way to go with this special training method. With the prod from his mother as motivation, Shiro dusted himself off and then squared back up with the tree again. He knew what he had to do, Okay, concentrate chakra to the feet to match the surface of the tree, not too much, but not too little. I gotta get it just right, like Goldy Locks and the Three Bears. he told himself as he stared down his objective. Then he took off running, he concentrated on his feet as much as possible while also trying to keep an eye on the tree so that he knew where he was going. When he reached the base of the tree he could immediately feel the suction as started gaining vertical progress. Shiro made it a decent way up the tree before feeling his suction waning so he jumped back down to the ground.

Very good Shi-kun, just like that! his mother offered as words of encouragement.

His mothers words brought a smile to the boy's face, he liked it when she acknowledged his skill. The rest of the family wasn't ever all the pleased with his pursuit of being a ninja so to have her recognize that he was doing well felt great. In fact it brought a much needed confidence booster to the boys training resolve. He was going to master this skill by the end of the night and with that mastery improve his chakra control. By this point Shiro knew the basics of this training, concentrate chakra to his feet at just the right density to adhere to the bark of the tree. Neither allowing it to be too light so as not to stick, or too dense so as not to break the bark. Shiro gave one to look to the tree and then one to his mother before he closed his eyes in a momentary deep focus. When his eyes opened, shiro lunged forward into a sprint. He rapidly reached the tree and immediately felt his feet adhere to the bark, Okay now up the tree as far as I can go . His legs moved as fast as his muscles would allow as he tried his hardest to reach a new height on the tree. Shiro managed to make it about ten feet up the tree before he called it quits and retreated back to the ground. Great job Shi-kun! I think you have the basics of this technique down so I think it's time to start focusing on maintaining it. The next you try to run up the tree I want you to take it slow and try and focus on maintaining the perfect balance, you know to really be aware of the changes required to continuously stick to the tree. she told him.

Shiro listened to his intently as she instructed him on what to do next. He knew it wasn't going to be nearly as exhilarating as blitzing the tree and seeing how high he could get, but on the other hand he was never really going to to master the technique with the way that he had previously been approaching the training. So now he was going to have to focus on refining his control and really learning how to do what he needed to do. This time Shiro casually approached the tree instead of running at it. He then concentrated chakra to the soles of his shoes and then nervously stuck one foot and tried sticking it to the tree. When it adhered he then very cautiously lifted his other foot and stuck it to the tree. Next he lifted one foot and took a step, then a cautious second. So far it was looking good, but then looks can be deceiving. Soon Shiro found himself slipping and then he accidentally overcompensated and sent too much chakra to his feet causing the bark to splinter and severing his connection to the tree. At least he didn't have a long way to fall, and as plus he did land on his butt. The boy almost immediately picked himself back up and wiped himself off. Eh, I guess it could have been worse Shi-kun. However I bet you can see now that mastering this training is harder than first appears huh? his mother told him. But I know that you'll get it soon.

"You can say that again mom." he replied in confirmation to the true difficulty of this training method. Taking his mother's words to heart Shiro prepared himself to continue mentally. He was fairly certain that many bruises were going to be one of the results of this training and he really didn't want to be covered in bruises but if that was what it was going to take to master this thing by the time he went to sleep then so be it. Shiro looked at the tree, and despite having only been at it for a few hours now he could already see the various marks on the tree that were a result of his training. He also know that were going to be many more by the time he was done. The tree was going to be a testament to his will to succeed. When he was done observing his handiwork shiro prepped himself for attempting to the climb the tree. He concentrated chakra to his right foot, and then the left foot before approaching the tree. This time he was determine to make some serious progress up the tree. He took the first few tentatively, before gaining confidence and slowly making his way up the trunk of the tree one careful step at a time. As he climbed up the tree at this new slow pace Shiro noticed something that he hadn't when was running up the tree. Without his forward momentum he was really feeling the pull of gravity, which made climbing a lot more physically demanding. Despite this he continued to climb up the tree, carefully adjusting his chakra concentration as he went. Shiro knew this was a crucial step, and that once he had mastered adjusting his chakra flow he could work on doing it faster. Once he did that then the pull of gravity wouldn't feel so bad. For now though he simply had to settle for wiping the sweat from his brow and soldering on. His muscles were starting to ache by now, and his focus was starting to become more difficult to maintain. He paused for just moment to look down, and for first time saw how high up he was. The boy gulped a little, as he was certain that a fall from his current height would definitely hurt.

With a strong force of will Shiro managed to turn his eyes away from the ground and back to the tree in front of him. He then nervously resumed walking up the tree. Of course he didn't make it very far before his fear started to distract him from his chakra control. this led to him starting to slip, which of course increased his fear and made him lose even more focus. By now it basically become a chain reaction which caused Shiro to lose his grip on the tree trunk and start to plummet toward to the ground. was this the end? Was this how he was going to die? Thoughts of failing his dream raced before his eyes as Shiro contemplated failing to a stupid tree during training before he even made it to the war. Shiro! Try and grab hold of the tree with your feet! his mom called out him. No, this wasn't how it wasn't going to end for Inechi Shironaegi. [+3 to next roll] Shiro desperately stuck his legs out as far as he could and made contact with the tree. At first nothing happened but as he tried to keep the right concentration with the tree he noticed himself slowing down, and eventually slowly sliding instead of falling. He continued to focus on sticking to the tree and though he was practically at the base again Shiro managed to come to a stop, once again safely sticking to the trunk of the tree. That had certainly been a close call but he wasn't going to allow it to stop him from training. Almost immediately the boy continued his climb back up the tree except this time he went a little quicker than before. To be honest the fear had exhilarated him and actually given him a bit of a motivational boost to master the chakra climbing technique. The training was still difficult but he was getting a lot better at climbing only using chakra, and soon he'd probably be able to do it fairly effortlessly. However to get there he needed to keep working at it, and continue to practice the technique.

Sweat ran down the boy's face as he continued to climb. Having been training for what felt like hours now, his body was starting to complain about it. Of course the boy also knew that he was approaching a certain consistency in his ability to perform, at which point he could stop. After all once he'd mastered the basics, and was able to do it quite well then he could practice over time to improve his speed. For now all needed to do was get down the basics correctly and practice a few times. He could tell that this was a skill that he'd need to work to perfection, or else he'd be a sub par ninja. Plus, it'd be a great way to show his future instructor that his skills were ahead of the curve. Something which hoped would get his future squad out to the front faster, instead of the usually low end chores that genin typically had to do for a while. Shiro slowly made his way back down to the base of the tree as he felt his chakra control becoming a little erratic. At this point a short rest probably couldn't hurt. You know, just enough to gain back the energy to make the final push in the training and finish strong. You're doing great Shi-kun! I can't beleive how long you've been able to train continuously. Looks like you have your father's endurance. [+3] his mom laughed. The boy smiled lightly as he rested on the ground. In his head he pictured his dad enduring the beating that his mom so often dished out to him for being lazy, or giving his sons sake, or just all around acting like an idiot. The thought actually caused him to laugh out loud. What's so funny huh?. she asked while giving Shiro a small glare. "Nothing ma'am." shiro quickly replied as he stopped laughing. You're a good boy Shi-kun. Shiro simply smiled nervously before he got up and brushed himself off before going back to his training. That was a close one. he thought to himself as began walking up the tree again. Sometimes his mom could be pretty scary.

Of course Shiro didn't make it very far up the tree but he felt his control giving out again. At first it wasn't too bad, only a small difficulty in maintaining a steady flow but then the error in his concentration, and ever increasing over correction really started to become a problem. When it got to the point where he was basically only ever holding on with one foot he knew that continuing was going to impossible at the moment. So Shiro did the only thing he could actually do, and backed down. He pushed off the tree and jumped backed down to the ground to rest for a little while longer. He wasn't really sure how long he needed to rest but he knew it had to be longer than his previous break. Well this stinks, I'm so close to being done I can feel it... but I can't stop until I know for sure that I could wake up tomorrow and come back out here without issue. That's the hard part, making sure that I know this for sure. Shiro dropped to the ground butt first and then laid back, so that he could look up at the sunset. "Hey mom, what do you do when you're close to finishing something, but can't quite get to where you need to be?" he asked his mother while he looked at the setting sun. Well I usually just give it one last push, but sometimes I take a moment to be a lone and think. She said a little nostalgically, as it had been one of her momentary pauses where she first met Inechi. Shiro just gave a kind of nod, but said nothing in return. He was too busy thinking, or rather concentrating on his body. Trying to discern what the problem was, of course it wouldn't answer him. The only reply he got was kind of twitch in his legs as they shook from all the work that they'd been doing over the last few hours. At this point Shiro figured that he was probably going to have to wait until his legs stopped twitching at the very least before he attempted to climb the tree again.
