If one ignored the damaged buildings, the overcrowding, the endless repair work, the lingering anxiety, and the many unhappy riders and Weyrfolk from three different Weyrs, Trine was actually an awesome place! It was wonderful and tropical, and the lakes were always warm, and there were new places to explore, new flowers to find, and new people to meet. That last item on the list was a little sketchy, really, since not everyone was in a terribly friendly mood, but Adi always tried to put on her best smile and spread a little cheer.

It didn't always work, and sometimes someone would tell her to shard off, at which point she would run back to Mazamath for dragon-hugs. That was exactly what she had done this afternoon, and after cuddling up to her sunning blue, had fallen asleep. She'd been very busy lately, after all, helping where she could and running about the rest of the time.

While she dozed, Mazamath had sent her silver flit, Gallant, on an errand to collect a few flowers. Her young blue and green flits had gone along as well, and the trio periodically popped out from between to drop haphazardly-picked wildflowers next to the young woman.

Poor darling sleeping Adi. Siata remembered her vaguely - the infirmary was filled with memories of blood and hurt from her baby, arrows and tears from everyone with a vomiting Bruiser and dragons sharding everywhere. She'd not fought with any of them except perhaps that little crying Healer next to the Bruiser that the curvy really did not like. Really, only Kleos stuck out much - Kleos and Bruiser (shards, Carl? Carltis? She called him Bro).

So when she wandered around the place, restless and unable to sleep despite the time of the day, Siask was the one to recognize the humans scent. He had his eyepatch on over his daytime goggles, but even being unable to see did nothing to stifle his abilities to smell. The ugly whers nostrils flared, huge head swinging in the general direction of... someone Siata kind of recognized.

"Are you going to harass people, beautiful?" Siata patted his shoulder fondly, her eyes trailing over to a blue that, no, she did not recognize, but there was a small pile of flowers next to a sleeping someone familiar. Siask rumbled when a flit popped back in to drop more, his powerful haunches tightening as he recognzed the flash of heat from behind his goggles.

And--

"Stop!" Siata tackled her boy not too far from Mazamath and Adi, her heels digging into the ground and a yelp on her lips. To his credit, Siask did not pounce even though his handler made plenty of noise.

Mazamath jerked his head up at the sudden commotion, wings flaring and eyes whirling white and orange in fleeting alarm, while the little green flit squeaked in fright and disappeared again. The blue was not ordinarily such a reactionary dragon, but those recent events and the danger they'd put his rider in had yet to fade from memory...but the handler stopped her wher, and so his posture relaxed some.

While rude awakenings were always somewhat startling, Adi did not share her dragon's alarm. She didn't know the pair well, but Siata and Siask were nonetheless very recognizable, and very definitely good! But what the shards were they doing? Playing? Wrestling with a wher seemed like it might be a little dangerous...oh well! And hey, what were all these flowers doing here?

Both these things were a bit puzzling, but she was still quick to offer a bright, oblivious smile. "Hi, Siata!"

"I promise he isn't attacking!" Siata all but yelped, using her somewhat considerable strength to keep her wher from wriggling free. Siask groaned in a grumble and flopped heavily against the smith crafter. She loosened her grip somewhat, fingers gentled to light rubs by the time that Adi actually started talking.

The wherhandler grinned in relief at the lack of fear from the younger woman, her head leaning in to thump against Siask. "Hey, Adi!" That was her name, right? Right. Something. It was weird not to see the girl not in a war zone - it was good to not see her in a war zone. "You look like a wild child, all covered with greenery. How've you been?"

Compliments worked when your wher was trying to attack things. Right? Right! Totally. Siask, distracted more by the pets and the stretching out like a happy feline, rumbled in his agreement to her vague thought process. His claws kneaded the ground, drawing deep furrows into it. Right. Compliments.

Adi had, as usual, assumed that Nothing Was Going On Here; the concept of anyone or anything actually meaning her any harm was still very new to her, and that Siata's wher might fall under the category of 'anything' did not occur to her. His handler would never let him hurt anyone! Er...anyone who wasn't bad. Right? So there was nothing to be afraid of!

Mazamath opted not to dissuade her of that particular notion for now, because then she would have been upset, and he had seen more than enough of upset Adi to last him a lifetime. Still, he kept a wary eye on the creature, just in case.

"Do I?" the bluerider giggled, quite pleased by such a compliment. "I think Maz's been up to something." Not that her dragon was very good at picking flowers. He must have had help.

"Oh, we're okay! Just getting used to a new place and all. You guys?" As she spoke, she stood up and brushed herself off.

"Oh yes, you definitely do, but a lovely one. It's good to see you smile." Siata all but beamed in return. The idea of honestly hitting on Adi would confuse her - never occurred, really - but that didn't mean she wouldn't compliment. The younger woman was cute and deserved to be told such. "Mazamath is also looking very handsome himself - especially with all those flowers nearby."

Siata chuckled, her head shaking. "I've been trying to look for everyone in that infirmary with us, honestly. Found Kleos - she's fine. I'm worried about the little healer most of all. She did not seem to be taking things very well." Her lips pursed at the memory but she snapped out of that well enough, running her hand through her short hair. "Do they have you working or anything like that, wing drills aside? It's like a weird remembering... thing. Used to live here, you know, before hitting up Malvren. Things have changed a bit."

"I'm sorry we interrupted your nap. You getting enough sleep?" Maybe too prrying a question but Siata... Siata still woke up to screams and fighting, the scent of blood in her nose and how it felt to hold a weapon in her hand. She suppressed a shudder.

What girl didn't like a compliment? Not Adi, that was for sure, and it would have been impossible for her smile to get any bigger. Mazamath was pleased as well, not just that he'd been complimented, but that His had been. Anything that made her happy made him happy in turn. He dipped his head in acknowledgement of the wherhandler, and his eyes turned to distinctly more pleasant colors.

"You guys look good, too," the bluerider returned. "I bet Siask gets all the lady whers now, huh?" All one-eyed and eyepatched and all. If whers cared about that kind of thing, anyway. "Yeah, we help out here and there. I run around a lot, mostly, since I'm not any good at building or anything like that. You used to live here, really? I like it, even if it is crowded."

"Mm-hm!" she answered. "It's a little hotter than I'm used to, but nothing I can't take." There was the occasional nightmare, but the reassurance of being somewhere safe was well on its way to counteracting those.

What girl didn't like a compliment, and few knew how to give them like Siata. She figured it came from meaning each one, regardless of the intentions behind them - and hers for Adi fell in the category of '100% platonic' and 'she is like a tiny adorable kitten. The dragon preening only meant more triumph and Siata grinned wide, looking back at her boy. He rumbled in agreement.

"He hasn't Chased since the revolution but I'm sure he'd be all into the wooing with the girls start to Run again. He's quite the little warrior now." She crouched to rub at his knobbly head, lips quirking in affection. "Lived here but it was a long, long time ago. I was tiny and wrestling with big brothers twice my size. They're still twice my size, really."

A little huffing laugh came before she grinned, leaning in closer to her boy. "D'you have any of the local clothes? It's easier to deal with. Oh! And do you have a craft? Dragonriding is full time, I know, but if you have a craft maybe we can figure out something more fun than running around."

"I've noticed some Flights so far already, so the Runs probably aren't far behind, though we've got less whers than dragons, I guess." Unlike the dragons, where nearly three Weyrs' worth were packed into one Weyr, the whers had...spread out more, obviously.

"Oh, you have brothers? And they're bigger than you?" Imagining a family portrait, Adi was impressed. Siata was big! She knew plenty of men who weren't as big as Siata - not that the smith being big was a bad thing, it was actually pretty awesome - so if her brothers were even bigger, they must surely be a sight. "Do they still live here?"

"Not yet. I've been meaning to see if someone will let me borrow some or something, but a lot of people are kind of touchy about their stuff now. When it gets too bad, I can just take my shirt off." She gave a slight shrug. It didn't bother her much at all, as body shyness was simply not in her vocabulary. "And no, I don't really. I always figured I'd go into Farmcraft if I didn't Impress, but I did, so that never happened."
