In a way, Jett had been treading on egg shells with Raven after their conversation. Though he was confident that he had offered fair enough clarification on the matter at hand, he was making the extra effort to remain a little more considerate to Raven. At least for today. The argument had cleared up more things than he had known were wrong—and it felt like a weight was off his chest.
Raven was important to him. It just took her ignoring him to make him realize it.
Jett had never liked when people ignored him. He remembered a time—a long time ago—that he’d much rather keep buried that he had been a different person. In elementary school, he’d never been in the spotlight. He’d been a quiet, polite boy who had never gotten to speak his mind—who no one listened to.
In middle school he became an angry, resentful child.
In high school he’d learned to hide it. In high school, he was charming, classy, and decidedly cruel to anyone that challenged or disgusted him.
In college, he no longer felt the need to tear down everyone around him to make sure he was still the top dog. The Dark Mirror Court had come into his life, giving him a suitable outlet for all the rage he’d developed. He got his power rush while powered up--and everything was good.
Especially with Raven latched onto his arm.
Last night had gone well, and with their issues worked out, all he had left to do was stick to his part of the deal. He had no idea what or where the necklace Raven had spoke so highly of, and was relying on his girlfriend to lead him to the boutique. “Are you sure you know where this place is?” he asked; he’d parked his car a while back, and the idea of a nice stroll with a pretty girl seemed like a good idea to begin with, the afternoon sun was practically blinding him.

When Raven was angry, she showed it in the best way she could, she yelled and screamed and stamped her feet. Though, when she was really, really angry, she reacted like any other teenage girl. She gave whoever it was the silent treatment until they realized that they were really the scum of the earth, and that they needed her in their life, or else their life had no meaning what so ever.
Honestly, she still wasn’t completely sure that Jett deserved her forgiveness, but she supposed perhaps he deserved at least a partial chance…and he was indulging her demand for a new necklace…so maybe there was some hope for her boy friend after all.
“Yes, Jett. I know where it is. I was here a week or so ago while I was…you know, on my nightly duties.” She rolled her eyes. How could he think she wouldn’t know where the boutique was? She wasn’t stupid, and she really wasn’t stupid when it came to shopping. No, most girls had a sixth sense for directions when they came to stores and shopping plazas. Though, perhaps she really was just super testy at Jett. Maybe he really wasn’t being a jerk, and it was all just her still overreacting form everything.
The small jewelry store came into sight and the blonde girl rolled her eyes. Nope. It was all him being an idiot as normal.

There was a thing about Jett that made him wonder if he he'd made a mistake in trying to patch things up with Raven. There weren't many people other than himself that he'd try for, but he was trying—for her. He thought he'd done a fine case of clearing things up last night, so Raven's still hostile attitude was more frustrating than he'd have liked. He bit his tongue—something hard for a man whose instinct was to respond with biting words the instant someone displeased him.
But he reasoned that it was for the best. Jett would buy her whatever pretty little trinket she wanted, but he was not happy with her attitude about it. And she was rolling her eyes at him. Cute.
Apparently trying to express his emotions and situation last night hadn't gotten him anywhere. Raven was in as sour a mood as he could imagine, and he'd quickly established that he had no idea how to deal with her like this. So, he tolerated her cheekiness and just kept walking. "I don't see the harm in me asking, Raven," he said, hardly sounding as stressed as he suddenly was. Maybe she was just cranky because they hadn't eaten lunch yet. He could go for a nice, grilled piece of beef right now. He pulled her closer and gave her a kiss on the cheek before he retracted a bit and opened the door to the store for her.
The burst of cold air from the air conditioner was refreshing, and hopefully would do wonders to cool off both of them. "Which necklace was it that's caught your eye?"

The air conditioner blew her hair off of her sweaty neck and she gave a little sigh, half dragging Jett over to the window display. Good. The necklace was still there, and it was just as beautiful in the sunlight as it had been in the slightly dim lights the other night. “It’s that one, with the blueish stones, I think they’re tanzanite or something, but they’re the darker form of it.” She had done her research, just to make sure the necklace wasn’t a fake, since normally the tanzanite stones she had seen had been light, almost purpleish, and these stones were a darker blue.
The necklace was about three hundred dollars, and the blonde looked up at Jett, giving a small smile. Hopefully…he’d be willing to shell out that much money. She sure as hell couldn’t afford it.
“Don’t you think it would look good on me, Jett?” Fishing for compliments wasn’t always the nicest thing to do, but sometimes, she just wanted to hear it. Besides, she really needed to know that he really thought she was more attractive than that other girl Ophelia or whatever.

Raven's smile was reassuring to Jett, even if he wasn't sure if she was just playing him so she got the necklace. He'd like to think that after their heart-to-heart this was just her way of her wanting the reassurance that he was willing to do something special for her. Even if it was a little expensive.
The price tag was not as insane—he'd prepared for three zeros and tried to figure out how that was going to work. But this was much more reasonable. Jett had a good paying job—and even if he hadn't been cashing in on the prize money from boxing competitions in a while, the stocks he'd invested in were majorly cashing out. He'd been on an incline for months now, and when the only thing he was buying were flowers and fast food, he had a decent amount to lavish his girlfriend with.
"Raven," he said, eying the piece, "You would look good if all you were wearing was a burlap sack. I don't think I need to remind you that you are—and have always been—the prettiest girl I've ever laid eyes on."
Which wasn't a complete lie; he'd seen pretty girls, but never had one captivated him so much as Raven. In high school, he'd brushed her off. She was lovely, but he had been walking with a different crowd, caught up in his own mayhem. He should have paid her more attention then.
Lacing his fingers with hers, he nodded approvingly. "But I think it would look amazing on you."

Ah, now that was the kind of thing that Jett should say to her every day. Comments like that, snarky, but not overly so. And just nice enough to make her want to gush. “I don’t know Jett. It think you’d be far too happy if I was walking around in only a burlap sack. I know I’m far too attractive for you not to be…far too excited for your own good.” She grinned at him, sticking her tongue out.
Though, that wasn’t to say she wouldn’t walk around his house or hers in only a sack. If he wanted her too, well…she’d at least consider it.
Raven pulled away from Jett for a moment, and went to the sales clerk, letting him know what piece she wanted. The male nodded and got the necklace out, letting the blonde girl touch it and nod her approval. “Yup. That’s the one. Jett, won’t you put it on for me? I want to wear it out. Plus, then you can compliment me on just how amazing it looks.”
The shop owner gave a little laugh, then quickly walked over to the cash register to ring the purchase up and get out the box.
Raven looked at Jett expectantly, then lifted her hair so he could put on the necklace.

Jett made a note to just present Raven with glistening jewels whenever she had an off day. He liked her gleaming as she was. Did she have a three hundred dollar smile?
…If not to anyone else, at least to him.
He took the necklace from her fingers cautiously; he didn't have the slightest idea how delicate the piece would be, and perhaps he had gotten cautious from handling the antique jewelry that came into the shop.
Carefully, he moved so that the necklace was resting atop her chest. Before he clasped the two end, he took the opportunity to admire her exposed skin. He pressed his lips to the back of her neck to plant a light kiss atop her flesh before he leaned back. If he were any other male, he might have had a difficult time clasping necklace, though it was a simple enough contraption and he'd put enough necklaces on display that it ended up being a piece of cake. When he finished, he moved Raven's hair back and moved so that he could see how it looked on her.
It wasn't difficult for him to admire her. The blue complimented her eyes fantastically, and he couldn't tell which looked more radiant.
"…Much better than a sack," he noted, forgetting the price tag the moment he saw her wearing it. "You look amazing, Raven."

Raven gave a smile, both at the praise and the tenderness that Jett was showing. Yeah, there was a reason she was keeping him around. There was a reason why she had totally fallen in love with him.
She struck a little pose, then hugged him tightly, sighing. “Even if I get mad at you a lot, and even if you sometimes do stupid things, you’re still a keeper, I think. Plus, if you mess up again…” The blonde grinned, whispering into his ear. “There’s a matching bracelet and ring for this necklace. If you mess up again, I foresee myself owning the whole set.” She laughed and pulled away, walking to the register, reaching up and gently touching the necklace. Hm. Part of her hoped they had a fight soon so she could get the other two pieces, but she wasn’t about to tell him that.

Little things like that gave Jett the faith he needed to know that there was a reason he kept Raven around. Her playful side was enough to keep him on her toes, and he was glad she wasn't still fuming about Ophelia. A part of him was convinced he'd done the right thing in bringing Ophelia back (it was hard for Jett to think he was in the wrong about anything, though). He understood that he had hurt Raven, and while he would not permit himself to regret it, he could at least commit himself to making it up to her. Though, given the situation, he'd broken almost all of his cardinal rules.
Fear? He might have almost been afraid to lose her. Maybe. Regret? It did make his little black heart ache a bit to know that he had caused her such distress. But maybe he just hadn't wanted to look bad? Maybe he was only concerned with losing his reputation?
But that didn't explain the love. There was no reputation in love, only weakness.
As he stood in front of the counter, shelling out three hundred dollars worth an apology, he realized that he was in love with Raven Moore.
He wasn't in love with her looks, or her laugh or her smile. He was in love with her. All of her. Right down to the condescending b***h he knew she could be when she didn't get her way. It was a strangely numbing realization—not unpleasant, but certainly not one he'd meant to uncover.
"Careful," he noted, feeling obligated to say something. "Our anniversary is coming up in a bit. If you don't want an empty box, you might want to save the fights for later."
He drew her close, all the same. He might buy her the rest of the set just for the hell of it.
