The cold wind blew gently through the trees, under the ever watchful moon and stars. The forest remained quiet, not a single sound dared escape and break this peace. A small stream of flowing water could be heard in the distance, and the occasional hoot of an owl would echo through the silence. Pure peace lived here. A pure peace that would not last...
A bustling city that never slept nor stopped. The constant sounds of cars, sirens, music, steam and many other mechanical sounds were a constant part of this life. People running around to accomplish a multitude of tasks, some just sat their life away, but all were really just doing as they were told. They just wanted to rush through their lives, not knowing that it would all end...
One night, October 23rd, 2015 to be more specific, alarms sounded around the world. The world stocks all crashed, wireless signals all stopped transmitting, automated machines around the world, from cellphones to complex robots to military UAV's all went haywire. The world network fell into the first great Network Crisis. The government denied any involvement, and blamed it on hackers. The following year, on the same day, the events repeated themselves, but the damage dealt was much greater then before. An estimation made by a local news station was released, stating that possibly thousands were killed in accidents related to this event. Again, the government denied anything, and once again pointed there fingers to hackers and terrorists. Fearing that it would happen again, many officials in both the military and political sectors supposedly pooled money to create a group of elite counter-hackers to stop this threat. But the following year, 2017, on the same day, October 23rd, catastrophe hit yet again. But this time, it was not some global digital strike, oh no. Without any warning, all of the nuclear weapons that were scattered around the world and supposedly dis-armed all synchronized and went off, killing well over three quarters of the world's population, leading to the first ever Nuclear Winter. Or, so the archives say...
The year is now 2020, and mankind has created technologies beyond what anyone could have imagined back in the 19th century. A great historical archive has been created to record every bit and detail of what has happened and what is happening. War is no longer fought with human lives, but is now fought with digital warfare. Instead of killing each other, mankind has now resorted to digital warfare, focusing more on disarming and deactivating the enemy's resources and capabilities. Everyone has been injected with nanomachines that can repulse disease, heal wounds of any severity, share information and many more. Police now also use an array of non-leathal and digital weaponry like lockdown codes that paralize a specific individual's nanomachines, paralizing them in turn, and automated nanomachines no bigger then a grain of sand that are programmed to locate and neutralize targets. A supposed atmosphere of peace has been created, and many live without any fear of anything anymore. But what would happen if, per say, one person gained access to the control program of these nanomachines? What would happen then?
A group of individuals ask themselves this after witnessing a glitch in the Mother AI that caused a completely normal individual to brutally murder another innocent person right in front of them, then take his own life. For them, this once peaceful life has become a fight for survival. Blamed for having something to do with this error in the Mother AI's program and causing the two deaths, the group is now on the run from the authorities, from the world, and from technology itself. And with the date of the Network Crisis slowly approaching, something seems entirely off about the whole scene.
Will the group be able to solve the mystery? Will they be caught by those secretly pulling the strings? Or will the fourth great Network Crisis come to existence? You decide!
