Tsaan

Age:

Birthdate:

Appearance:

Personality:

History:

Winning RP entry:
Tsaan: Tsaan missed their home. He missed the cold, barren grasses and sparse pines that dotted the taiga of northern [Mongolia]. He missed the nomadic life and the smell of the reindeer and the sight of hundreds of antlers as he opened the yurt at dawn. Most of all he missed their families, and for wishing he could just go back right now, the guilt came too.

“We still haven’t found anything Chinua, and it’s been nearly a month. Only the carvings, and those won’t cure the herd.” He fell silent, restlessly rubbing the soft fur of his rabbitskin gloves as he tipped out their contents into his hands. Staring at the strange grey totem, glowing with golden whorls, he was still not sure what to make of it, or how (if at all) it fit into their journey. He had never given much thought to the differences of chance and fate, had never been one to believe in that sort of thing. At first finding them had seemed so significant, but now as the days went by and they got no closer to their goal he felt somehow let down as the importance of their journey weighed more and more heavily on his shoulders. Their money was running low and as much as he had always tried to put on a brave front for Chinua, his stress was showing. If they did not find something soon...there would be nothing left for them, neither here nor back home.

Chinua: Chinua had noticed Tsaan's increased fretting. How could she not when her eyes were always drawn to her childhood friend? How could she miss the subtle gestures that bespoke his unhappiness? She couldn't. As simple as that. But she didn't truly know what to do to relieve his problems either, especially when she, too, was having her doubts. She didn't even bother looking at her matching worn out piece of wood anymore like Tsaan still did, but kept it safely wrapped up in her rucksack instead. It wouldn’t help them find the cure and she didn’t think they’d get more than a few pence trying to sell it. "I...I dunno Tsaan...maybe..just maybe there is a cure hidden in this city and we just have to find it!" Chinua tried for enthusiasm, hoping to mask her dismay and doubts from her friend. She wasn’t quite ready to admit defeat, too many lives rested on this foolish mission. So far she hadn’t noticed any reindeer in this foreign land, not even a picture of one, but that didn’t mean they had to give up quite yet.

Tsaan: He nodded in agreement, more for her benefit than his own. He had always been a realist, looking at the situation as it was, trying to figure out the best solution in the shortest amount of time. He preferred to look at facts, assess them and determine a solution. Chinua had always been a dreamer, an optimist. And though he loved that in her he often worried for her, as if it were his duty to protect her from the worst of the world so that she would never feel as if it let her down. On his part, he knew it was a naive, she was not a child. Still he couldn’t seem to let go of the idea no matter how many years passed since their childhood.

Chinua: “Let’s look a bit longer Tsaan? Maybe just check out the apothecaries here or maybe they have a stable somewhere nearby? We’ve come all this way, a few more hours of looking can’t hurt... And, and afterwards we can stop at an Inn for the night?” Chinua knew they were running precariously short on money, but a night’s rest might restore Tsaan’s determination, or so she hoped. If they ran out of money completely she could always knit blankets or scarves for them to sell. That’s what she did back home; knit beautifully colored scarves, blankets and harnesses to sell at the markets the few times a year the families stopped at them. But making such things was time consuming and time was another thing they were running precariously short on.

Tsaan: Tsaan looked at her, at the determination written on her face, and his expression softened. For whatever reason, he had never been able to deny her. This time was no different. “You’re right, maybe we do just need to talk to some more people, maybe fate is just waiting for the right thing or the right moment.” He said this without conviction, yet despite his tone he felt - or perhaps imagined - the small totem in his hand spreading a comforting warmth through his body...

Chinua: Chinua was brought out of her reminiscing from a gentle nudge on her arm. Koke nudged her again just to ensure that she was the center of attention and Chinua couldn't help but chuckle. Always so demanding, and yet she couldn't blame the doe for it. Without Koke and Shen, Chinua and Tsaan would never had been able to help the herds back home. They owed the guardians an immense debt that Chinua was willing to spend the rest of her life paying off. And, if every day of that life was spent admiring and doting on the gorgeous doe, well that wouldn't be too bad. She patted Koke's tawny birch neck before maneuvering to the doe's side to check her harness. Once finished, she gently slapped Koke on the haunch. The doe jumped, surprised and turned to Chinua, snorting in annoyance. The look on the doe's face sent Chinua into a fit of giggles that lasted until she heard something behind her. Turning, she spotted Tsaan. She blushed a pretty shade of pink and quickly faced back towards Koke, embarrassed. She couldn't face him after what happened last week, she just absolutely couldn't. That didn't prevent her from talking to him over her shoulder though. "So did you find Shen?"

Tsaan: “Teem," he confirmed in their native tongue, before switching to the Common they had been practicing. “He was debarking the trees again, seems to enjoy the bitter taste.” There was humour in his voice, laced with the awkwardness of his approach. He had caught her blush, and in turn in made him pause, a little more flustered than usual. This was another first for him, the sensation of not knowing how to be around her anymore. They had never been anything but completely comfortable with each other, more so than with their families even. Yet ever since the previous week, their eyes had been shy to meet, and their feet quick to dance around one another. Thankfully for the both of them, their guardians felt no such awkwardness and Shen, ever the enthusiast strode forward confidently at the sight of his friend, nipping at Koke playfully as Tsaan tried to secure the harness on the moving ball of energy. It too had been a present from Chinua, for their journey. He paused as he came close to Chinua, dark eyes locked on the thick braid falling down her back. He half opened his mouth to say something before stopping, going back to quickly adjusting Shen’s harness before starting over on a different subject to cut the awkwardness.

“Shall we be off? It is still, after all, many days to Sunderland,” he trailed off, gaze looking to the west as the deer joined his gaze, ears perked and eyes focused far beyond sight to the land of their origin.
