Although Gramps couldn’t remember much of his past life, a feeling told him he enjoyed reading books. While Wilson was still recuperating in his dorm, the catoblepas wandered around the island until he finally found the library. Hands in his pants pockets, he casually looked around at the tall bookshelves. He gave the computers a bored glanced before walking toward a shelf. Green eyes scanned the titles while a hand reached up to run his fingers over the books’ spines. The leather covers felt familiar. He pulled out a random book and rifled through the pages. Gramps scoffed when he realized the contents pertained to Halloween monsters. The discovery shouldn’t have surprised him. This was Deus, after all.

He returned the book to the shelf and pulled one out from the row under. While it was still about creatures, this one held the weapon’s interest longer. After skimming a couple of pages, he turned around and searched for a table to sit at. He found the nearest one and plopped in the nearest chair. For a while, the room was filled with only the sound Gramps occasionally flipping the page or quietly murmuring to himself a snarky comment about the information.

It didn't take Chara long to realize that there was only so much to do here. Eva had taken her for a tour around the buildings, given her a bunch of different foods to try...and then that was that. While her companion went off to visit (or rather, harass) her friends and their weapons, Chara had decided to wander off on her own. After all, of all the places that Eva had shown her, there was one place in particular that she had been interested in investigating on her own.

Upon slipping into the library, she noted that it seemed like she was the only one there. Good--it was much nicer to enjoy a book when there wasn't anyone hanging over your shoulder. Letting out a sigh, the gorgon moved up to the closest bookshelf, immediately scanning the titles as she lifted a hand and ran her finger over the bindings. A lot of them seemed more like research-oriented stuff--no surprise, really--and there didn't seem to be anything on this particular shelf that caught her attention. Frowning, she rounded the corner with the intention of checking the other side, only to jump when she realized that there was someone seated at one of the tables.

"Oh. Er, I'm sorry, I thought I was alone." Her violet eyes swept over the figure briefly--long enough for her to determine that he was probably another weapon-in-a-golem like her--before dipping her head down in a small bow. Ordinarily, she would have left it at that and walk away, but she found herself staring at him instead. There was something bothering her, but she couldn't tell what it was...

"I'm Chara," She piped up suddenly, crossing her arms over her chest, "Eva's partner. And you're...?"

He heard another step of footsteps enter the library. Briefly, his eyes wandered toward the edge of the page and then to the edge of his vision. Gramps’ head shifted slightly toward the sound, but then the weapon went back to reading his book. Sighing softly, he leaned over and propped his elbow onto the table so he could rest his cheek against his palm. The book had caught his interest at first. It was a book detailing the different types of dragons. The reptilians weren’t his absolute favorite, but the Insanity dragon Wilson encountered on the sun course one day was interesting. He peeled two pages apart so he could flip to the next section. Insanity. Would it be more interesting to read about Insanity? Were there books on it?

There was a voice, noticeably feminine. He looked up and scrutinized the stranger. She had purple hair and similarly-colored eyes. The girl bowed her head at him. He narrowed his eyes in return before looking back down at the book. “It’s fine.” His tail swished back and forth. A while later he chose to glance at her only to find her staring at him. It should have annoyed him, but Gramps found himself grinning at her instead. “Something bothering you, dolly?”

The name sounded familiar...Ahhhh. So the girl was a weapon for that female death trainee. The glowing staff, was it? “Dabir,” he answered in his usual raspy voice, closing the book with a soft thud and leaned in his chair until the front legs floated off the ground. “But you’ve heard the kiddo call me Gramps.” He grimaced. “I’m not old.” Wordlessly, he pulled out the chair next to him and patted the back before expectantly looking up at Chara.

...Dolly.

Dolly?

Chara visibly grimaced at way he addressed her, clearly unamused. However, after some consideration, she decided that she would be content to just let it slide...especially considering the fact that she had been staring at him rather rudely just a few moments ago. He didn't call her out on that, so she wouldn't make a big fuss over something so small.

"Dabir?" Was there a hunter around here with a weapon named that? She couldn't recall--"Aah, so you're gramps. It's nice to meet you...and to be honest, you do look a lot younger than I thought you would." There was a light teasing tone to her voice as she looked him up and down, noting that he looked as if he were closer to her age than the old man that she had assumed he was. Well, there was that, and also...

"I have to ask. Is there any particular reason you find the need to forgo a shirt?" Sinking into the offered chair, the gorgon quirked a brow as she took in the male's outfit. Call her uptight, but the fact that he didn't have a shirt on bothered her a little for some reason. Without hesitation, and looking more comfortable than one would expect from a stranger, Chara suddenly leaned forward and tried to zip his coat closed.

It was a shame Chara wasn’t familiar with old slang, because dolly was synonymous with ‘cute girl.’ Maybe she wouldn’t have grimaced at the catoblepas then, but maybe she still would have frowned at him. Gramps quirked an eyebrow at the other weapon, but said nothing.

He rolled his eyes while he continued to lean back, his chair dangerously close to toppling over, but still managing to remain balanced. A hand reached up to lightly grasp his throat. “I’ll admit my voice is funky,” he confessed with a scowl.

Her question pushed Gramps into a lighter mood. He grinned smugly at Chara. “It’s because Jack couldn’t find a shirt that looked good on me.” Satisfied with his answer, he began to reach forward to grab the book so he could return it to the shelves, but the gorgon was reaching for his jacket. “Hey!” He grabbed her hand to prevent her from zipping it up. “What’dya think you’re doin’?!” However, the sudden movement was enough for his chair to topple over and he fell back, still holding onto Chara.

Oh--was he self-conscious about his voice, perhaps? The thought brought a small, amused smile to Chara's face, but she was quick to give him a reassuring wave of her hand. "I don't think you have a bad voice. I mean...it's not like I'm a melodious bird either." She smiled wryly as she lifted her own hand to rub at her neck. Well, she didn't sound quite as...gruff as Gramps did, but her voice was rather quiet.

Or maybe that was just how she spoke.

The boil's answer to her question made her arch a brow--really--but she didn't have much time to dwell on that. After all, despite her..."good" intention of zipping up his jacket (and thereby making him more publicly decent), the gorgon suddenly found herself behind dragged forward as both chair and boil began to tip backwards. "Wha--w-woah, wait a moment--!"

Unable to either stop the fall or pull herself free, Chara went right down with him in a crash of limbs. She had squeezed her eyes shut in preparation for the impact of hitting the ground, but after a few seconds ticked by in silence, she suddenly realized that she was flopped on top of something significantly more...er, squishy? Slowly, the ghoul opened her eyes...

..................did she just faceplant in someone's chest?

He wasn’t self-conscious, not really. Honest.

Maybe.

His voice hadn’t always been this raspy. At least, that was the feeling Gramps got, considering he couldn’t remember Jack about his life. Sometimes, if he imagined hard enough, he could remember a thin, breathless voice. Was it his? Perhaps, but it was hard to recall when you were a catoblepas with a shitty memory to begin with.

“You don’t look like a melodious bird, so that’s not surprising.” The weapon began to scrutinize Chara. “What are you?”

Having his shoulder blades press against the edge of the chair (with only a thin jacket to cushion the impact) was unpleasant. He would have roared angrily, but a certain weight pressed down on his chest until the air left his lungs. Gramps wheezed instead. “Couldn’t wait. Sorry.” He groaned, prying open his eyes to notice a certain ghoul on top of him. It didn’t surprise him much, considering he could clearly feel her hands on his bare chest.

Gramps opened his mouth to tell her to buzz off, but found the words refused to come out. This seemed familiar. Well, at least she did. He tried to take a deep breath before speaking. Instead he only exhaled and continued to stare at Chara curiously for another long moment.

He managed to avert his eyes, his lips pressed into a thin line. “Mind getting off?”

It was absolutely useless to hide the red on his face.

Chara really could not say much about beautiful and ugly voices. While her speaking voice may have sounded pleasant or ordinary enough, the one thing that you never, ever wanted to do was hear the gorgon sing, because, well...

...You treasure your ability to hear, right?

Thus, she had really been telling the truth when she told Gramps that she was nowhere near a melodious bird. She would have followed that up with answering his question--and probably turning it back and asking him what he was, but...well. Things happened.

Awkward things.

Had Chara known that she was currently flopped onto someone who she had just met (and with her face against his chest, no less), she probably would have gotten off of him at lightning speed. However, since she was really quite unaware of this fact, the gorgon remained on top of him as she emit a small, pained groan. She may have mostly landed on something warm and squishy, but her elbow had knocked into the ground, and--

...Wait. Something...warm and squishy? Chara's eyes popped open when Gramps suddenly spoke up, sudden aware that his voice had reverberated through whatever--or rather, whoever--it was she was lying on. Slowly glancing up, the gorgon let out a loud and rather uncharacteristic curse as her current position finally sunk in. In an instant, she was off of the boil and on her feet.

"Ah--jack! Shoot! I'm sorry!"

Once the weight on his chest disappeared, Gramps slowly sat up and clumsily rolled out of the fallen chair. One eye squished shut, he tried to gently rub his back to alleviate the tingling pains that refused to disappear. The catbolepas should have chewed the other weapon from the inside out. It would have been easy for him to lash out at Chara—if she hadn’t attempted to zip up his jacket the entire thing wouldn’t have happened and he wouldn’t be grumbling to himself right now. He didn’t.

“Forget it. Just forget it.” He eyed her warily before he crouched down to pick up the chair and return it to the upright decision. Rather than push the chair in, he kicked it in before he picked up the book he had been reading and snapped it shut. “You called yourself Chara?” he asked, one hand in his pants pockets while he ambled toward the bookshelves and slid the book back into place. “How’ve you spent your time so far?” When he turned around, Gramps narrowed his eyes and scrutinized Chara. “Your eyes are pretty,” he blurted out. They were a familiar shade of violent…The same violet of the bladed staff Eva always carried around.

Smooth move, Dabir. Real smooth. Sighing, Gramps walked toward her. “You know what?” He stood in front of her. Perhaps a little too close. “Forget that too.” He bent his knees slightly as he lowered his head and pulled her into a kiss.

This guy was strange.

Or rather, the way he was making her react to him was strange. Chara had never been the type to lose her cool composure, and yet here she was, completely flustered in the presence of this boil. She had her hands clasped together behind her back, and her expression was almost nervous as she watched him he set the chair upright and moved to replace the book he had been reading. Chara mentally noted, a little dryly, that she was acting like a schoolgirl with a crush.

Which was, you know, preposterous. Whatever the strange, nagging feeling might say, she had only just met this guy, right?

"Wha--yes, I'm Chara. And...nothing much, really. I've been exploring the place while I still have the means to do so." She smiled a little wryly, at this, and cast a pointed glance down at his legs just as he commented on her eyes. The sudden compliment sent blood rushing to the gorgon's cheeks as she looked back up at him, bright violet eyes growing round.

They were just as round--if not more so--when he suddenly moved towards her and leaned down to kiss her. For a moment, Chara was completely still, her mind full of question and exclamation marks as she tried to figure out what exactly was going on, or more importantly, how in the world she was supposed to react. The logical choice--and the one she would have doubtlessly chosen any other time--would have been to pull away, punch the boil in the face, and storm away...but she couldn't quite bring herself to do anything of these things. Instead, very hesitantly, she lifted a hand to grasp at his jacket...

...Just as the door to the library suddenly burst open. The loud noise was followed by a very familiar voice.

"Well then, Wilson! They should both be in he...re..." The voice sudden trailed off into a stunned silence, but before Chara could jerk backwards and explain herself, Eva suddenly piped up with a loud and panicked, "AVERT YOUR INNOCENT EYES, LITTLE BRO!"

Her lips felt nice. They were soft and maybe it was just him, but it felt like they meshed perfectly with his. Maybe Gramps was thinking too hard about things. He barely knew the ghoul. All he knew was a name and broken memories of her hunter. When she didn’t push away—an honest surprise because he had expected punching or kicking or screaming or something bad—he tentatively pressed his lips harder against Chara’s. As he felt something lightly tug at his jacket, he wrapped his arms around her slender waist. Somewhere in the background he could vaguely hear a voice. He ignored it.

He still ignored it when he realized the voice was sort of not really familiar and spouted off about innocence and bros. Eventually, the catoblepas opened his eyes and gently propped his chin on top of Chara’s head while he observed the two hunters who had just entered the library. ”Kiddo,” he greeted casually. ”You look absolutely stoked.” Sarcasm, how he loved you so.

“A part of me doesn’t really want to find them right now,” Wilson admittedly quietly as he obediently followed after his fellow death hunter, hands in his jacket pockets. He stopped abruptly when he glanced at the pair. His face was innocently curious at first, then mildly baffled, then incredibly confused, and then changed into an expression that said something like “water u doin??!” Brows furrowed, Wilson reached up to shield Eva’s eyes. “If anything, shouldn’t it be the other way around since I’m older than you?”

Awkward pause. “Gramps. What’re you doing?”

His weapon grinned. ”What do you think? You’ve got eyeballs, don’t ya.”

If there was one thing that could be said about Chara, it was that she considered herself to be an intelligent and practical young woman (turned weapon). She prided herself in the fact that she did not act like the "typical" lovesick ghoul who melted at the feet of attractive boils, and as a weapon, she often found herself scoffing at the romance novels that Eva would sometimes find in her possession. It seemed as if surprise kisses were a staple in these romance novels, and every time Eva would read such a scene aloud to her, the gorgon would grimace.

How could any ghoul enjoy that? If she were kissed by a nearly complete stranger, she would promptly knee them between the legs.

...Or so Chara had thought, but here she was, her face buried in the (might I note, bare) chest of someone she had just met. She was trying her best not to turn and look at Wilson and Eva, feeling uncharacteristically awkward and shy. However, after taking a deep breath, she drew back slightly so that she could look back towards the two trainee hunters. Her cheeks were a bright shade of red despite the cool expression on her face.

"Oh, were you looking for us? I'm sorry if we worried you."

Whereas her weapon managed to put on a calm facade, Eva was a lot more...emotional. When Wilson lifted his hands to shield her eyes, she promptly pulled them back down, turning to look at the young man with a frown. "No, because you're my lil bro! So technically I should be protecting you from seeing this and..." She trailed off so that she could look back towards the two weapons. The girl furrowed her brows.

"You two couldn't have met for more than an hour...right?"

The weapon kept his hands firmly snaked around the gorgon’s waist, but he loosened his hold enough to allow her to turn toward the pair of hunters. He looked down to notice the warm tint painted across her cheeks. Lips curled into a grin before he craned his neck to drop a lazy kiss on Chara’s cheek. “I ain’t sorry,” he drawled in a raspy voice. The look of disbelief that percolated across Wilson’s face was enough for Gramps. He kept grinning and quirked an eyebrow at his hunter. What now?

Wilson gave the other death hunter a look at her adamancy. He opened his mouth to insist he was the elder one here, but then paused. Far as he could tell, Eva didn’t have much reason for calling him ‘lil bro.’ It was probably because he looked like one. The thought made him scratch his head while he spent another moment of silence confusedly staring at both Eva and the weapons. He didn’t look like a little brother, did he? “Eva’s right,” he finally spoke while he crossed his arms. He mimicked Gramps’ expression, only a frown had replaced the cocky grin. “You barely know each other, so why are you…?” His voice trailed off and he coughed.

Gramps leaned his head to the side. “Felt right?” He leaned to the side and looked Chara in the side for a reply.

The sudden kiss on the cheek only resulted in making Chara's face even redder than it had already been a moment ago. She immediately turned to stare at him, and though it had been meant to be a glare, the look in her eyes turned out a lot more uncertain and hesitant than she had intended. It was still a glare of sorts, but instead of a harsh, irritated glare, it was more like the expression of a typical...

Well, a typical tsundere. It was a look that said that she didn't want to openly encourage such behaviour, but it was also a look that said that she didn't want to discourage it either. It wasn't as if she liked it or anything okay, geez.

Eva, for one, still seemed to be a lot more panicked than Wilson was. She took in Gramps' answer with a blank stare, and then lifted a hand to point at him accusingly. "Wait, wait. So if Wilson and I hadn't shown up, just how far would you two have gone?!" There was a pause, and then she turned and leaned into the other Death trainee, lowering her voice, "...Though I'm assuming golems can't have children, right?"

Just making sure.

There was suddenly the sound of someone loudly clearing their throat. "With all due respect to both of you, what happened--and would have happened--is none of your business." Her bold declaration would probably have been more impressive had her face not resembled a tomato, but Chara tried.

The meager glare was returned with a smirk and a quirked eyebrow. Then Gramps slowly turned toward Eva as she questioned the pair. He opened his mouth to say something, but stopped. The catoblepas appeared annoyed as the corner of his mouth twisted and his tail flicked back and forth impatiently, but he held onto his tongue to allow Chara to respond first. “Although,” he started as soon as the other weapon finished, “if ya want to see I’m more than happy to let ya.” He shot the two hunters a coy grin while he tugged Chara closer to his side.

Wilson’s response? Nope. NopeNopeNopeNope.

He raised both hands up and walked toward the weapons. “Alright, that’s it. Gramps, I’m dragging you out of here. I think you’ve had your fill for now.”

The hunter received a kind kick to the stomach that sent him to the ground. Holding his stomach, he rolled onto his side. “E-Eva…h-how about you take Chara out first…” wheezed Wilson.
