Zhevra was out and about on the very outskirts of the herd today, and for once he didn't actually hate the duties he had been given - they were simple..just walk a patrol along the outer perimeter and take note of anything unusual. It was a duty his father typically did but the older stallion had been called away to see to something else.
In any case this nice and lazy walk was a good deal more in tune with Zhevra's current mindset then babysitting the foals or keeping an eye on the elders was. He was even tempted to stop somewhere along the way and take a nap - which his father busy he doubted he would even notice. The thought made him yawn a little bit - staying up all night talking to a mare who had been passing through might not have been the wisest idea he'd had lately..but then again she had been a really really good looking mare sooo...
chuckling a little to himself at the memory Zhevra continued to plod along at his lazy pace, hardly paying any sort of attention to the land around him like he was supposed to be doing.

Kalioky wasn't sure exactly where she had wound up, but the important thing was that she was, hopefully, far enough away from that idiot herd she had traveled with to finally be free of them. It had been agonizing spending so much time, day and night, surrounded by others who were all trying to flee their home. Oh she didn't mind leaving that hellish land. But having been stuck with all the herds mashed together in one big group was so annoying. The foals crying cause the were tired, the scouts stopping them every few hours to 'check the area ahead' and the leaders acting like they were so important. It had all grated on Kalioky's last nerves. So she had left at her first opportunity and didn't look back.
She liked the solo life, she could get up when she wanted to, go to bed when she wanted to, go wherever she wished. It was great. But at the moment she had a rather large obstacle in front of her. All around her for that matter. Forests were the bane of her existence. Meadows she had the chance of seeing over the grass to find where she was going but forests seemed to block every little bit of her view with plants both low lying and high growing. As she continued to cut across the ever present trees she was nearly run over by a large Soquili who didn't seem to be paying any attention to where he was going.
Anger flared for a moment as she hurried to get to a safe spot, but then she looked over at the large brute and thought he might just be what she needed. These large breeds were what she needed and this was her opportunity to use one for her own advantages. "Hey!" She called out coming out from her safe spot to follow behind the stallion. "Big fluffy thing, I'm talking to you. You know you almost ran me over back there? Don't you ever look down?"

Zhevra was momentarily confused when the voice behind him yelled out, big fluffy thing? Well he supposed he did have a bit more fluff on him then most...though not nearly as much as his father did. "Who me?" He answered as he turned around, casting his gaze all over the place before finally looking down and spotting the little Soquili...ah she was one of those little breeds. Adorable little things..if a bit on the useless side most of the time. I mean they could hardly be counted on in a fight now could they?
"Oh! There you are! Afraid I didn't see you down there...have you ever considered wearing a bell or something?" He asked the mare good naturedly..he was joking..sort of, okay maybe only half joking, really a bell didn't seem like a bad idea. Well unless a predator came around - but that was why there were big Soquili around like himself and this area was pretty safe thanks to the efforts of his father.

A scowl crossed her face. Here she was thinking she might have stumbled upon easy pray, play the small defenseless type that was nearly run over and then he would do whatever she asked. Apparently this big oaf needed a bit more convincing. That's okay, Kalioky happened to be quite good at deception. She had practiced for many years a honed her skills. Surely with a little more time and bit of effort he would be swayed into doing as she asked. "Funny, real funny. Must be nice to be the big type who can crack jokes all the time about those smaller than themselves. Sure, I'll just go find a bell so others like you never have to actually pay attention to their surroundings. What a perfect situation!" She finished off sarcastically then turned away from him.
"Here I thought you might be helpful but clearly you're just like everyone else your size." With a huff and toss of her mane Kalioky began to walk away, still talking though clearly it wasn't directed at him, just speaking her thoughts out loud. "Why would I want help anyways? I'm only horribly lost in these never ending woods." She began to walk a bit faster now, looking this way and that for some trail and then to add that last bit of dramatic flair that should seal the deal she went to turn down a game trail and then stopped. "Oh! I think I've already been that way! I'm never gonna get out of here!" And then the fake tears began to flow.

Zhevra was about to crack another joke - something about short statures and short fuses when the little mare turned away and began to stalk back down the path muttering to herself about being lost and generally looking like she truly was. And as if that wasn't enough to make Zhevra feel like an overgrown bully...she started to cry. Damn.
"Well..here now, I was just trying to make light of the situation, I didn't know you were lost" He tried to explain, trailing after the mare, whose hurried steps barely required any sort of effort by him to keep up with. His fathero f course would be furious to know that he'd nearly run someone over and then not help them if he found out. "Where are you trying to go? I'll help you find your way..I know the area quite well, my herd lives around these parts" He tried to assure the mare - he'd likely tell her anything, agree to do anything, as long as she would stop crying!

It was so hard not to crack as smile as her plan worked just as she had expected it would. Throw in a few tears and everything came to your side to help. Mares and stallion were susceptible to this kind of thing though some more so than others. She had known without a doubt when she had saw this stallion he would break under her tears and come to her aid. "Yes, well." She began with a sniff, stopped and looking up at him. "Its not easy when you're this small. Everyone makes you the butt of their jokes no matter what's happening." It was something she hated, hated almost as much as she hated her own kind. What stupid creature allowed themselves to grow so small? There were so few advantages to being this small that Kalioky thought the Gods or whoever was responsible were bloody idiots. The one thing she was glad for was that her size could be used to manipulate others, and that is exactly what she was doing with this stallion.
"I...don't really remember." Yeah, that's right, play forgetful, it will seal the deal. "I think it was a stream or maybe a river. I've just gotten so turn around in these darn trees I can't remember for certain. If I could just see an open area maybe I could figure it out". A few tears continued to slide down her cheeks, it added to the effect after all and she looked up at the large stallion. "You sure you'll help me? This isn't another one of your jokes is it?" She looked at him with that pleading look, like if he said even a slightly cruel thing she would shatter into a million pieces.

Zhevra felt even worse when she went on about how everyone made fun of her for being small..and then he'd gone and suggested she wear a bell. How terrible could he be? "I'm really sorry" He said with sincerity in his voice "I just didn't think, it's not an excuse but I want you to know I didn't hurt your feelings on purpose.." A lame apology but the best he could come up with under the gaze of her big bright doe eyes...gods she was even more sorrowful looking then the herd foals when they got in trouble and that was saying something!
Course there he was comparing her to something small again..was that discrimination? Was he a height racist of some sort? Well not intentionally and shaking his head slightly he decided to make sure that she was alright and taken care of before he moved on - if nothing else then to make up for being so colossally stupid upon their first meeting. "No no! No joke..I'll take you wherever you want to go!" He assured her.

Sniffing a few extra times for good measure Kalioky glanced up at the large brute. Hook, line and sinker, she had him good. It's amazing how dumb he truly was. "Apology accepted." She told him in a quiet voice. "Just please don't let something like this happen ever again. I'm not the only one who deals with things like this." Honestly she couldn't give two rats butts about what insults he threw at others, especially her kind, but she needed to keep up the rouse in order to get him to play along. Now that she had him, Kalioky needed to figure out what to do with him, it wasn't a big problem, she normally could figure things out quite quickly. It all depended on where she was and what the land, or Soquili for that matter, could give her. But if she switched over too quickly she would lose him and then she would need to find another sucker to string along.
"Good." Kalioky gave him a gentle smile, showing him that she was glad to hear he was truly going to help her. She thought it was funny that he said he would take her anywhere she wanted to go, he would regret that soon enough, but for now she had to play along in this game, her being the game master and he was her pawn. "Well...I suppose you can start by helping me out of these trees, that way I can hopefully remember where I was supposed to go." She looked up the trees with a slight huff. "These darn things seem to muddle my mind when I get in them." That was close to the truth, being her size it was easy to get terribly lost in a forest since everything was so much taller than her, there was no way to find ones way except through guessing or escort.

"Of course, of course." Zhevra assured the little mare - anything to keep her from bursting into tears or berating him again. At least she didn't want anything too difficult, Zhevra knew the forest quite well - he ought to having lived here his whole life - and leading her out of the trees would be an easy and quickly done task. "Alright..any idea where you are wanting to go?" He asked, not wanting to deal with the dramatics that might result if he lead her in the wrong direction and they popped out of the forest in the same area she'd come into it.
"I know most of the paths in the area fairly well..so if your looking for someplace in particular there is a good chance I can start you off in the right direction." He went on, attempting to prod more information out of her. Now that she wasn't crying or yelling at him she actually seemed like a pretty nice sort of Soquili, that gentle smile she'd given him was one that he would have melted over from any mare, though he supposed he could see why she had reacted in the manner she had - I mean it had to be scary to be stuck somewhere and have no idea how to get out or even where you were for that matter.

There, see a little bit of tears, and a little threatening to go off on her own with threat of getting even further lost and she have him just where she wanted him. Following him out of the forest Kalioky had to think quick of what her next move would be, since it turned out they were a lot closer to the edge of the forest than she had expected. How sad was it that she got lost so close to the meadow? Well she couldn't dwell on that now, she had little time to make up her mind of where she wanted to go and what to have this stallion do for her. At least she could take the moment that they arrived at the meadow to think while also playing the role of the recently rescued. As she stepped out into the clearing Kalioky let out an audible sigh of relief. After all such actions were expected from those who had actually been lost and then shown the way, so she had to make sure to keep up the ruse.
She took a moment to survey the area, looking quite thoughtful as she did so, in the act of trying to remember where she had been headed before getting lost in the woods. "Hmmm." Another moments pause and she would be good to say where she needed to go. Only problem is she wasn't entirely sure. And the more she thought about her destination and this fluffy brute the more she was beginning to think he wouldn't really suit her purposes. He seemed a bit too thick skulled and she hated repeating herself. "I was to go to a stream, or possibly a river, that had..." She paused to think again. "A grove of cherry trees near it with one really big willow in the center." That goodness she had heard someone a few days ago mention such a place in passing or she'd still be scrambling for a place to go to. Hopefully he knew of this place so she could get there and get rid of this death weight. What she really needed was a purpose in life beyond wandering and avoiding her old herd, but surely asking him what he thought she could do with her life would be a bit far fetched. He seemed too much of a good type to suggest anything she would possibly be interested in.

Zhevra was quite glad to hear the little mare give a sigh of relief and although he was already running late for a meeting with his father he none the less waited patiently while she tried to recall where it was she wanted to go - though honestly with the way she was going on before Zhevra thought she should have known that already. Still she wasn't crying anymore or weeping or wandering lost in the woods so waiting patiently was worth it in his mind.
"Oh..I know where that is, you were going completely the wrong way but I know a shortcut." He told the mare when she described a small area not to far from his father's territory, his mother was often fond of going there to see the trees in bloom in the spring and so Zhevra knew the area quite well. "Just follow me and I'll get you there right quick!" He promised the mare with a cheerful voice before turning and heading off on a side path around the meadow.

Kalioky was a bit surprised when he said he knew the area she was talking about. Hell she wasn't even sure she had gotten the details right so they could have been stuck together for a while longer. But luckily the ramblings of that stranger she had passed had paid off and the place was indeed real. She couldn't even count the number of times she had been told bad information during her travels so it was a small victory to have good information this one time. Even better, he knew a short cut, which meant she could be rid of his bothersome hide sooner than later. Funny how her original plan to pull him into her clutches suddenly changed, but the truth was sometimes certain Soquili were not what she was hoping for and so she needed to cut her loses and move on, finding the next minion along the way.
"Ah great!" She said, and her voice sounded far more relieved than she had planned on it being. But hey, not only was she away from her wretched herd now but she would soon be free from this fuzzy brute as well. Though she was glad to have run into him because spending the rest of the afternoon or even day wandering around lost in those woods would have royally sucked. With a flick of her tail Kalioky quickly followed him down a new path, hopefully he would be smart enough to keep his pace slower so that she didn't lag behind too much. As they traveled though she began to think of any other information she might need to gain from this stallion before they parted ways.

Zhevra had to keep reminding himself to slow down, even walking his typical stride lent him far more speed then his little companion could easily keep up with - at least not without trotting - and Zhevra certainly didn't want to upset her again by tiring her out. One bout of crying per day was about all that he could handle and keep his sanity. And so he had adopted a kind of unsteady pace, taking a few strides and then pausing to let the mare catch up before taking a few more.
The silence ground on between them for a good while - but Zhevra wasn't really sure what to say to her and they had already used up the majority of idle chit-chat about the area and her traveling thought. Well perhaps he could find another topic..her family? She hadn't mentioned having one but it was at least something to say. "So...do you have any family?" He asked during one of his pauses, looking back at her with a curious expression on his face.

She was starting to work out a plan that may very well be her saving grace and get her away from this big brute. Everything was falling into place and then...he said something and completely interrupted her chain of thought! Oh she just wanted to yell at him, maybe bite his ankle a bit. But no she had to keep up the helpless act just a bit longer or else she wouldn't make it to her destination and she would be in the same situation as before running into him. Make that him running into her, oh no she hadn't quite forgotten about that yet. Taking a deep breath she forced down the anger at being interrupted and looked up at him. "Well everyone has family don't they?" She said in hopefully what he would interpret as a teasing tone, she wasn't sure if she got it right but gave her head a bit of a shake.
"My family didn't come to these lands with the rest of the herd." And now to make up a sad story just to annoy him, since he seemed like the type to avoid tears at all costs. "My mother, well she was taken by the two-leggers when I was just a foal. My father left shortly after that, sure he would find her alive. Never saw either of them again so the herd ended up raising me." There, that was a good sad story is she ever heard one, and just to add that little extra. "So I have a family like everyone does, but I don't know where they are or if they are even still alive." She gave her shoulders a bit of a shrug and looked away, as if to say she was done talking about it or else she might cry.

"I suppose so.." Zhevra agreed, glancing back at her again..had she been teasing him? He thought so...but it was hard to tell, there was something else in her tone of voice. Perhaps it was just an accent or something. Or..maybe he'd gone and brought up some rather terrible memories the stallion thought to himself with an inward sigh as she went on to state the fate of her family. That hadn't gone nearly as well as he'd planned it to. "I see, that's rather terrible, I'm sure it was very hard for you." He stated sympathetically and then went on to try and change the subject because it really looked like she was about to tear up again.
"What about a mate? Foals? Your such a pretty lady I can't believe that you don't have a mate?" He asked, hoping that this would be a happier topic to discuss. Thank everything under the sun that they were getting close to the spot she was supposed to be going. While he was always glad to help others this little mare was a bit trying and he would be happy to send her on her way and be well rid of her.
