A lone, purple vixen sat by the shore. The soft ripples of the tide lapping at her forepaws. She sighed, brilliant blue eyes closing for a moment, enjoying the feel of wind softly playing with her hair. Emotions, what funny things they were. One in particular had been creeping up quite often. Luce wasn't really sure what it was. Perhaps romance, but it was hard to say, she'd never really experienced it before.

Maeve. This was the same beach she had met the vixen, although this time she was at the shore, rather than the cliff a few miles off. The source of the aforementioned feeling. Luce...enjoyed her company, welcomed it where she might reject others. It wasn't that she was particularly opposed to other foxes...she didn't hate them, nor particularly like them. But she was different.

The reason why she was here was...she could come up with a dozen or so reasons. But she would be lying to herself. Luce wanted to see Maeve. It wasn't really nice that their last ending had ended so suddenly.

Lucinda rose to stand and cracked her joints. How long had she been here? Silly girl, losing track of time.

(I'll have to add the picture later, not that it's super necessary or anything.)

The sight of the beach was as beautiful as Maeve remembered it, the breeze just as refreshing, and yet the gray vixen had no cares for her current surroundings. Her trip away from her tribe and into this secluded beach was in the hopes that it wouldn't be so secluded after all. Maeve was looking for a vixen. A very specific, very purple vixen with very blue eyes. Maeve had met Lucinda on this very cliff not too long ago, but their first encounter ended rather abruptly.

Maeve had been sitting up here for a while, just watching and waiting. She hadn't actually expected to see her, they hadn't exactly planned to meet again, Maeve just had no idea where else to look. It was sunset now, and Maeve thought it best to hunt and then find shelter for the night.

She stood, stretched, and climbed down the cliff. Maeve then slowly made her way along the shore, hoping to catch a fish or two. She wandered into the water in search of dinner and walked parallel to the shore for quite a distance, but to no avail. Maeve did, however, see something that distracted her completely.

Maeve returned to the shore as quickly as possible through the water. "Lucinda," Maeve called out once she judged herself to be in hearing distance. It was her, certainly. The pattern was rather unmistakable, the eyes as bright as she remembered them. "Hello again," she said as she caught up to Lucinda. She was still dripping wet, but Maeve hardly noticed.

The sun was setting. Perhaps it was time to call it a day. She should have found shelter for the night hours ago, now she would have to go looking in the dark. She cursed her daydreaming. Luce never really settled anywhere for longer than a few days. It wasn't wanderlust, rather the result of not possessing a reason to stay.

"Lucinda"

Hm? Cyan eyes locked with grey, and before she knew it, she had eagerly trotted up to the source. When she was close enough, she started, unsure exactly what to do. This made her laugh softly in spite of herself. " Hello to you too." She responded "What brings you here? You seem rather...wet." Hrm. Perhaps Lucinda shouldn't have asked that question. Maeve would certainly ask the same, and she really didn't like lying...but the truth was...a little embarrassing.

"Frankly?" Maeve began, "I was curious as to whether or not you would be here again." She then took the time to glance down at the sand already sticking to her wet paws. "Ah yes, I feel rather wet." Maeve smiled before taking a few steps away from Lucinda and, judging the other vixen to be out of the splash zone, shaking away as much water as possible from her fur.

That done, though Maeve was still pretty damp, she returned to where she was. "Besides wondering about your whereabouts, I was fishing, though without much luck." Maeve shrugged, knowing that she hadn't been in the water too long before spotting Lucinda, and fishing of all things took a lot of time and patience. "And yourself, Lucinda? What brought you back here?"

Luce paused, Maeve's reaction giving her a fluttery feeling in her stomach. What was that anyway? She pushed the thought away and concentrated on replying. "Well...since you are being honest, I suppose I should respond likewise; Part of my journey here was in hope of meeting you again...so I guess it's turned out rather well."

Luce turned her attention to another matter. "Are you cold? It's a shame that you didn't catch any fish...If you want help..." She trailed off, leaving the offer hanging in the air.

Upon hearing Lucinda's answer, Maeve laughed softly. "Thankfully for the both of us, we think alike and have great timing," she said.

"I am a little cold," Maeve then admitted with a nod. "I didn't have much time to get used to the water. Hm, and I suppose if you really didn't mind helping me out a bit, then I would be glad to accept your offer of help. I suppose you've already eaten, then?"

(( Dammit, now I can't stop thinking of Summanus' pick-up lines >.<))

"Oh, I don't mind at all, it's always nice to help someone out." Luce mused as she padded into the shallows by some large rocks. The trick was to wait until the fish got over their initial shock and came to you. Not wanting to further frighten said fish, she merely nodded at Maeve to indicate that she had in fact eaten beforehand.

Wait...

Wait...

She lunged, and felt the satisfying crunch of teeth connecting with prey. As the rest of the school scattered, she returned inland and placed the still twitching fish before Maeve. "One down..." She said with a quiet chuckle.

Maeve watched Lucinda silently from the shore, not particularly surprised by the other vixen's fishing skills. As far as Maeve could tell, Lucinda was great at being still, and patient, and knowing exactly the right moment to strike. In a way, Maeve thought, they had been fishing for each other tonight, and thankfully their respective trips were successful.

Lucinda seemed to study the water intently - Maeve assumed she was staring at a fish making its way slowly closer to her - when suddenly, she thrust her head into the ocean water and in one swift motion pulled it back out, the fish between her teeth still spasming in pain. It was still alive when Lucinda offered it to her. Maeve decided to release it from its misery with one quick, well-placed bite before turning back to Lucinda. "Well, I'm sure I don't need much more fish," Maeve said. "I wasn't too hungry; I just figured I should eat something for the sake of maintaining a healthy diet."

Maeve sat down to her dinner then, not taking too long to finish the meal. Once she was done, she looked back at Lucinda. "It was delicious," she complimented with a grateful smile. "Thank you, Lucinda. I must find some way to repay you, though I've no idea how."

Lucinda nodded at Maeve's comment. "Yes, that is a good idea. You never know when there will be a shortage of food, and then where would you be with an empty stomach?"

The vixen was patient enough to wait quietly while her companion ate, though staring at her would be quite rude, she Luce instead turned to watch the darkening sky. The clouds blotted much of the sunlight, but there was still enough of it to see easily. She didn't turn at Maeve's comment, but instead gave a satisfied smile and a small nod, tail curling around her body. It was only when a question was asked did she face her.

"Well...I would be grateful if you could help me find some shelter for the night...it looks like there may be a good chance of rain tonight, and I lost track of time to find one myself..."

Maeve nodded, replying, "Well, I certainly hope things will never come to that, but one can never really be too careful. It's really not one of those problems that you can do much planning ahead for, though. Any food one might attempt to stock and keep for later might just rot before it's ever needed." She just shrugged, and the topic of conversation changed.

Maeve's eyes turned to the sky after Lucinda's request for shelter. The sky certainly wasn't looking very clear at the moment. "Actually, I believe I can help you with that," she said, thinking back to the cliff she had been on earlier. "When I climbed down to the beach from the cliff that we first met on, I saw a cave entrance in the side of it. It was far enough away from the water that it should be, for the most part, dry. I'm not entirely sure how large it is, but it should be fine for the night."

Lucinda nodded, outwardly thankful. "Ah! I should have thought to look there! No matter now I suppose though." She said, laughing at her lack in skill when searching. "I'm not picky when it comes to size, as long as I can fit, I shall be fine. I suppose you will be sleeping in a shelter of your own." Luce assumed that Maeve was from around this region, so the vixen having her own form of shelter seemed very plausible.

As if spurred on by their topic of conversation, tiny beads of water began to fall from the sky. It was spitting, hardly a serious downpour, but it would soon lead to proper rain.
