Just a week. Only a week. A week to see how things would go, to see if being a senshi would get any easier, or any more enjoyable. Sure, she got the bad things out of the way right off the bat. She had the impromptu meeting with Acubens and told her that she had changed her mind and did not want to be in the group, and spent a few blissfully quiet days of patrolling with no bad things happening, and now here she was, mid way through the week and out patrolling again, just like she was supposed to be.
Dahlia should be proud.
She really should. Honestly, Odette deserved a medal for how well she had been handling herself. Though, perhaps Dahlia wouldn’t have been so happy to hear how she had allowed Pippin to spend the night, and had spent the entire night petting and cuddling the tiny, rather adorable cat.
She was out on patrol once more, and this would be the beginning of a new week, which was good. A new week, and still she was out patrolling. Take that. She had broken her own self imposed record.
Albireo wasn’t planning on even doing much tonight, she was just wanting to enjoy herself and have a nice quiet night out, enjoying the last of the warm summer nights before school started back up.
She really hadn’t wanted any confrontation, but it seemed that confrontation was going to find her anyway, no matter if she liked it or not.
The senshi was on a rooftop, sitting there, leaning against the low wall, looking out at the city, when she both felt and heard someone walking up behind her. It was a negaverse agent, and she felt like she was just a lieutenant. She didn’t look very old at all…not much older than a kid…
Albireo stood up. “Hey, I don’t know what you want, but honestly I don’t—“
“Shut up, you stupid White Moon girl. I know all about the lies you tell us and all that stuff. I was told all that last night. Well, look I’m going to do my job and I’m going to make sure you get off of our planet for good! We don’t want you here!”
Shaking her head, Albireo held up a hand. “Hey, I’m not even doing anything, I don’t want any trouble from you, why don’t you just go on home…” The girl mentioned she learned about something last night? Was she that new? Had this kid just been pulled into this war, and explained things only to go out and make trouble like this? She really didn’t want any trouble. Tonight was supposed to be relaxing. A way to unwind and really make a decision…to see if she was going to stay in this…lifestyle or if she was going to leave it.
The lieutenant advanced, fists raised. “I’m going to kill you, and rip out your starseed and eat it and it’s going to be great. Then I’m going to be the best lieutenant ever. Not even a week on the job and I’ve killed a senshi. I’m amazing!” She laughed, her pigtails blowing in the wind.
Albireo shook her head. She didn’t think there was anything amazing about killing someone. Enemy or not. That was just…it was just stupid.
The lieutenant attacked then, with a cry running at Albireo, who jumped aside. Well…it looked like the girl was serious.
Albireo was in the middle of the roof now, and shook her head. This had been going on long enough. This was nuts. “Albireo Honking Distraction!” She just wanted a chance to get away, to get away and get home…she had no idea what was about to happen…she never thought the girl would back up. The whole event looked like it was happening in slow motion. The negaverse girl backed up…
Then tripped, falling backwards off of the low wall on the rooftop.
Too late did Albireo try to catch her, by the time she made it to look over the roof, the nega girl was on the ground.
The swan senshi stared at the sight before her. No…no this wasn’t right. But…but they were too high up. This building was too high up, and the girl hadn’t had time to right herself in the fall…and…
She darted from building to building, getting to one that she could jump to the ground. The girl couldn’t be…well…no. She had to be all right. She had to…
Albireo ran to her and just stared at the now broken negaverse agent. She fell to her knees, a sick sort of numbness filling her. The girl was unmistakably dead. The senshi was trembling, and she stood back up after a few moments just staring at the body.
Then she did the only logical thing she could think of.
She ran like hell.
