Biography: Zatoichi was born in the Western District of Rukongai as Heishiro Rein . He lived a pretty steady normal life until he began to go blind at the age of five. His blindness was caused by an irreversible birth defect that had finally taken effect. By this time it became hard for him to adjust, he had to master his other sense to far beyond the norm in order to maintain a good quality of life. Unfortunately his parents were taken away from him under the charges of using unauthorized forbidden kido to defend themselves. This made it even harder for him because he had to scrape a living on his own while dealing with his problem that he had not yet mastered. It caused him to fall into despair he wanted to end it all but he didn't have the fortitude to kill himself. He was already wasting away from lack of nourishment, he had nothing and was dying slowly. One day he simply passed out in a lonely gutter clenching his only memory of his family in his arms, the Zanpakuto of his father that was left behind.
When Zatoichi came to he was quite surprised, that fact that he was alive came as a surprise to him as well as a regret. What good was he to anyone at this point? Based on what he could feel he knew he was in a bed, based on what her could here there was at least one person in the room with him, and based on what he could smell it was likely a woman. Soon after he heard a feminine voice, the young lady stood in front of him looking into his eyes and she smiled. "You can't see can you? I can tell because I can't see either, I know how you feel right now, you must have just lost your sight recently, you must feel terrible. Here come with me!" He suddenly felt a grip around his wrist as he was lifted from the bed, though he was weak he had managed to run as best he could as she pulled him. Soon after he felt grass under his bare feet and he could feel the wind blowing against his topless frame. Clearly they were outside and the girl spoke to him yet again. "Its not as bad as you think, living blind is quite easy. Its not a handicap at all if you work with it, just listen...inhale through your nose, feel the wind and air currents pushing against your body." She thrust her hand forward toward his chest and his eyes widened. "See you felt it didn't you, that shift in the air was me striking at you. You just have to be dedicated to practice. By the way my name is Tsuyu, what is your name?" Zatoichi reached out and placed his hand on her face and a single tear fell from his right eye. "T...thank you." He passed out again after that. When he came to again he heard the voice of a man. "Hey kid...we need to get you something to eat so you can get off that I.V....so whats your name anyway?" Zatoichi weakly responded. "I'm Heishiro Rein...where am I anyway." The man walked over to him and took a seat on the bed. "This is Shibi Kingdom, home of the Misawa Clan...I am Ryosuke Yamada and I'll be your mentor and guardian while you're here. You've been adopted in the Misawa Clan's Royal Family...lucky you huh?"
Over the years Ryosuke had passed everything he knew of swordsmanship to the boy and renamed him Zatoichi the blind swordsman. Zatoichi had greatly benefited from the tutelage of Ryosuke and Tsuyu. Due to his focus on Swordsmanship, insight, and Hakuda training, Zatoichi did not bother to learn any kido. After his mastery of the arts he attended the Shinigami academy where he still passed with his lack of kido and soared through with flying colors. It was there that he was able to manifest his zanpakuto and eventually secure a position within the Gotei 13.
Personality: Zatoichi is a constantly calm and laid back individual. Nothing ever really gets to him, he is often found relaxing and thanks to his dedication to duty and making sure the job is done he usually has plenty of free time. He has a good sense of humor which has been known to come out from time to time. He is really personable and easy to identify with. He tries to always maintain a good attitude, negative emotions are something he dislikes and he especially hates to feel them himself.

Unreleased form : His Zanpakuto is quite plain. Its is a ninja-to with a black hilt that matches the scabbard. It is worn across his back giving access to his right arm.
Zanpakuto Spirit Appearance
Zanpakuto Spirit Personality: Yoyu Honoo is a sadistic murderous pyromaniac. IF released of his own free will he would attack and attempt to destroy all but his master. Toward Zatoichi he is obedient though not at all hesitant to let Zatoichi know how he feels. He will also throw the occasional insult toward his master and others able to hear him at the time.

- Release Command : Erupt
Shikai Appearance : The blade is consumed by white flames that Zatoichi can manipulate as he desires. The flames may cause the sky to turn red in certain areas.
-Abilities: The white flames of the blade ore extremely hot and Zatoichi can manipulate them as he sees fit. The range of the flames depends on the size of what he creates as well as the amount of reiatsu he puts into it. Things such as this have no enhanced power and its only offensive threat is its immense heat. It melts most objects on contact including most metals and minerals, this includes earth. It cannot melt through Zanpakuto as easily as other objects.
Physical Changes : There are np physical changes to the weapon.
Battlefield Changes : Changes to the battlefield occur when the flames meet the landscape melting the earth into its molten state. His now immense reiatsu also heats the atmosphere to a level similar to standing atop an active volcano.
Shikai Boosts: Zatoichi's speed and reiatsu increase.
Shikai Techniques :
1. Magma Manipulation: Zatoichi is able to control the white flames of Yoyu Honoo as he sees fit. These flames are so hot that they can melt earth to its molten state, thus this molten earth can be manipulated. He cannot manipulate magma on a large scale and his control over the magma weakens the further away from him it gets. This is a passive ability and remains active for the duration of release, it therefore requires no cool down. [5/10][N/A][N/A]
2. White Hot Flare Beam: This technique can only be fired in a straight line and is very thin. It travels relatively quickly and on contact it sears straight through its target. IT damages the nerves to a point that whoever it his by this won't feel it immediately. [5/10][1 Post Duration][1 Post cool down]
3. Volcanic Dragon Flame : This attack sends the flames coating the blade off into a large flame dragon. At this point there are no longer flames on the blade and the dragon is controlled by movement. The sword cannot produce more flames and only gets its flame back when the dragon returns to it. 4. Molten Crevasse Eruption: Zatoichi swings his sword releasing the flame in a straight line from the blade that stretches out exactly twelve feet. The extreme heat melts the earth beneath reducing it to molten rock. Because it is the white flames of the sword heating the earth, Zatoichi can now manipulate it. - Name: - Molten Earth Manipulation
Description: - This ability is passive and activates immediately as Zatoichi's Bankai is released. Whatever earthen material comes into contact with the white flames will be changed into molten rock that can be manipulated as Zatoichi sees fit(corresponding to his sword strikes). Zatoichi can now manipulate magma on a grander scale and yet still his control of the magma weakens the further away from him it gets. Zatoichi can only manipulate magma that has been created or touched by the white flames.

Name: - Volcanic Ash Blast
Description: - Zatoichi gathers a ball of white flames between his blades until it becomes a condensed ball of white reiatsu. He can release this in any direction and at will it can burst into a cloud of volcanic fog that is toxic. This fog is thick and cannot be seen through and it spans a good 30 meter radius. The toxicity is such that an exposure of 2 posts is enough to infect a target and 5 posts for them to succumb. If the opponent is caught within the concussion of the blast, the effects will happen on the first post.

- Secret Ability: Chi Augmentation: While not as well versed as his teacher, Zatoichi possesses the ability to control and augment the physical energy that flows through his body. He is able to use this defensively and offensively as an extension of himself. Unlike his teacher, Zatoichi is unable to attack with his chi from long distances. Its range does not exceed more than 5 meters around him. This augmentation does make Zatoichi's Hakuda and even his zanjutsu more troublesome than most.
