Death Hunter DEATHSWEEPER General Information The large stone cavern with the tiled floor and large yellow smiley face is likely familiar to at least several trainees, and may even feature in a few nightmares from time to time. Welcome to Deathsweeper, the training course that may only be attempted via c-type golem, and often acts as a testing ground for the Life Division's more painful creations. Stealth and detecting imminent danger are vital for Death Hunters and anyone who has to spend extended amounts of time near Caelius. The Deathsweeper chamber is full of hidden traps that only the finest of survival instincts can survive unscathed.
If you fail: you get to once again relive the sensation of dying. Painfully and sometimes quite strangely.
If you win: you have survived stepping 5 tiles into the room. Anything further is purely for peen and bragging rights.
Mechanics roll 1 d10 check for hp loss and death decide whether or not to use your bonuses if you survive, repeat. roll list: the traps are ICly constantly changing, so feel free to get creative as to what exactly those traps are! -50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd

Bonus Mechanics This bonus is consumable. All participants get a flag, this flag will allow your character to notice something about the area they're stepping into. OOCly this means you can adjust your rolled number, up or down, by one point. Instinctive moves are used in the same manner as flags. These are stackable, so if you have 1 flag + 1 instinctive move, you can use them up in order to adjust your roll by two.
(If you roll a 1, you may not move your number down to 0, -1, or 10. And 10 cannot be adjusted to 1 or 11.)

Ryan had never tried Deathsweeper. It was interesting to think about. By now, one would have thought that the moon trainee would have attempted all of the courses at least once. Wilson himself had done most of the courses multiple times (barring the moon course). As soon as the man learned of this, he immediately called up the other hunter to the training fields.OnionGrump meet me at the training fields! deathsweeper :] -wilson Once Ryan arrived at the fields, he would find a young man patiently standing by one of the portals. Wilson would wave the boy over and usher into the portal. “Ready to tackle the death training course?”

Ryan eyed the text message with a hint of suspicion. He had heard rumors of the deathsweeper field. Terrible ones. If this happened to be some ploy to set him up, only to laugh at him when he failed, Ryan wouldn't be amused. Though despite his doubts, he arrived, as instructed, crossing his arms over his chest.
It was lucky for Wilson that he the death trainee had a good reputation and wasn't normally the sort of person to laugh at others. Because otherwise, the moon trainee would have been a no show.
"Couldn't we have just done, I don't know, regular training?" He asked, once they were through the portal.
Why did it have to be one of these courses...?

Deathsweeper was painful. Wilson wasn’t going to lie about that. But it was something a hunter should experience at least once in his lifetime, right? Especially if, as a death hunter, Wilson felt obligated to attempt this course multiple times. Each one always ended in failure and pain, pain, pain.
But don’t worry, Ryan. Wilson wouldn’t laugh at your pain and definitely not today. He would be far too busy groaning over his own pain soon enough.
“Spars are fine and all, but I think you should experience the training courses at least once. You’re going to be here the rest of your life, right? So why not take a crack at it?” Wilson shrugged before he went through the portal and found himself in a golem. Sighing, he looked at the tiles then back at the Ryan golem. “Ready?”

Ryan stopped and just stared at Wilson. Just stared.
"By experience you mean grueling and horribly painful deaths, then yes. I can't wait to try." He said in an enthusiastic voice that was just dripping with sarcasm. He rolled his eyes and crossed his arms over his chest. "I don't see the point in trying them, to be honest. No one really ever beats these things and if they do its by the skin of their teeth." Another sigh as he shuffled forward in a golem of his own.
Despite what he thought about these training fields, Wilson was bent on having him try it out. Besides, he was already here, might as well give the death trainee the satisfaction of at least trying one.

Wilson smiled. “Exactly.” He looked back toward the course while he rubbed the back of his neck and laughed awkwardly when he recalled his past deaths attempts. “But they’re called training courses for a reason, right? I don’t think they’d keep all these courses if they weren’t useful somehow.” They just happened to be incredibly painful as well.
He walked up to the edge of the first time then glanced at Ryan. “So you basically step on a tile and have to avoid the traps. It’s a pretty Deathie thing—jumping out of traps and stuff. I’ll go first, okay?” Wilson took a deep breath as he examined the tiles within his reach. Eventually, he hopped onto a square a couple tiles away from the hedge. He stiffened, waiting for the inevitable danger, but nothing happened. “Alright, your turn.”Status Step: 1 HP: 50/50 Flags: 1 Instinctive moves: 1

"You know I've been thinking about that." He started, watching as Wilson neared the edge of the field and followed shortly after. "I think they keep these training courses just to teach us ways of dying more... spectacularly." He tried to look thoughtful. But his words were dripping with sarcasm. He didn't see the point in these fields, to be honest.
"Oh?" That was almost asking the impossible, given that there were traps laid all throughout the floor. In fact, it was probably only a matter of time before both he and Wilson had their golems blown to hell. Still, since there was no avoiding it, there was also no point in delaying his death' any further.
Once it was announced that it was his turn, Ryan moved to step onto the one tile. Though just as he was about to put his foot down, he thought better of it and ended up stepping on the other beside it. It was perhaps thanks to that that he didn't die, but the tile exploded regardless. "Geh! s**t ******** hell!"Quote: Step: 1 Ryan's HP: 25/50 Flags: No more flags

Wilson pondered over Ryan’s theory and shrugged. “Sounds plausible, especially when they designed a course like this.” He remained on his first tile while he gestured toward the entire area. “I want to say this has helped me with my skills, but I’ve been through too much pain to tell if I have or not,” he noted cheerfully.
He shrugged his shoulders and closed an eye when he heard his bro yell. “You okay? Well, of course not. My bad. Hopefully the next tile isn’t as bad, right?” The odds of that happening appeared to be slim.
Now that it was his turn again, Wilson took a deep breath and hopped onto a nearby tile. His body stiffened when he felt the tile sink and he instinctively jumped onto a different tile to avoid the metal jaws that appeared beneath the floor. The jaws snapped together with a menacing, metallic ring before sinking beneath the tiles ago. Wilson shuddered. “That was close. Okay, your turn.”Status Step: 2 HP: 50/50 Flags: 1 Instinctive moves: USED

Wilson's cheerfulness was met with another scowl from Ryan. How could such a thing benefit as training? No. He was pretty sure this course was made for the higher ups' own amusement. Or if not that, just another way to show them how bad of a trainee they were. Then again, after a little thought, the moon trainee decided that it might have been both. Yes, probably both.
Unfortunately, the tile was indeed just as bad as the last. Because just as Ryan put his foot down on the smooth surface, it blew up in his face and knocked him him back and out.
This was the first and last time he probably ever wanted to do this particular training course.Quote: Step: 2 Ryan's HP: 0/50 Flags: No more flags

“…ah.” Unlike his first experience doing Deathsweeper with others, Wilson remained calm as the tile blew up in Ryan’s face and his golem was effectively out for the count. He scratched his head and then hopped onto another tile. He paused a beat, waited for the inevitable, but when the inevitable didn’t happen he shrugged.Status Step: 3 HP: 50/50 Flags: 1 Instinctive moves: USED

Figuring that his luck may be running out soon, Wilson opted to drop his flag onto his next proposed tile. He remained poker-faced as the tile flipped around to reveal a floor covered with spikes.

The next step, he soon realized, would be his last step. Wilson yelped as a rope tightened itself around his ankle and sent him flying through the air and into a pit filled with snakes. Wilson stiffened as he felt a bite and goodbye.
He woke up on the training fields, scratched his head, and looked around for the moon trainee. "Ryan? Uuuuh, you still here? You alright, hopefully?"

"For the moment." Came the irritable reply. Though Ryan had 'died' early on, he decided to stick around to see how the death trainee fared. Which apparently was far better than him.
"That was more intense than I thought it would be. Do you deaths always train in stuff like this?" He asked, hoping that they would never be expected to face a situation like this on a real mission. He could only imagine the turn out if they did.

Wilson rolled his neck and winced when he recalled his recent death. He had done this particular course more than a few times, and it was never pleasant, but death trainees were supposed to practice this, right?
“Quite intense,” agreed Wilson, then shrugged cluelessly. “How often they do this kind of stuff depends on the hunter, but I do this on a regular basis, yeah.” Assuming Ryan didn’t want to try this particular course again, he began to walk away. “Deaths are supposed to scout ahead and look out for traps, so the course is useful in that regard.” Then he spun around so he was walking backwards and grinned at Ryan. “Want to go to the cafeteria and get something to eat?”
