Basic Information

The weapon is essentially the Denel NTW-20 refitted to fire the 15.5mm x 106mm round. The weapon has a heavy, hammer forged polygonal barrel with a 16 groove 1 in 12 inch twist. The polygonal barrel helps to reduce barrel wear by removing the aspect of the rougher, grooved rifling tearing apart the barrel- an effect much like in artillery were the rounds require cross grooves to force the round down the barrel. While the rounds damage to the barrel is significantly reduced, the rounds are still somewhat obliquely shaped, to better fit the contour of the polygonal rifling.

Still, unlike the machine gun, with a lack of driving brands to force the round down the barrel, the wear of the barrel is much higher, although the accuracy is improved greatly. The barrel life is only approximately 1000 rounds, although the barrels can be exchanged rather easily (although it is not a quick change barrel) and even the entire receiver is expected to be easily removed.

Due to the accuracy and power of the round, the weapon is fully capable of hitting and average man sized target out to 2 miles, although damaging a "hard" material object (such as a heavily armored car, an APC or a tank) usually requires explosive rounds at those ranges due to loss of energy over the range.
