Time had passed, nightmares had faded somewhat, and Syd was more intent than ever of becoming a useful fighter. Because of that she turned to one of her regular sparring partners, winding up at his door and knocking on it.
"Wilson?" she called. "Hey, Mr. Wilson!" she added, memories of a stupid comic flashing through her mind and making her smile. Dennis the Menace, man, it was classic. It had annoyed the crap out of her when she was younger, but as she got older it had been a-- nope, it was still annoying, she thought.
She felt like being a little annoying today. Just a little.
Izy said.
(Double pts week<33) "Stiffer than--" she spluttered, turning bright red.

It would be a lie if Wilson said he hadn’t been taking a nap just now. The first knock went unnoticed by the trainee, but once someone began to call his name, his brain began to wake up. An eye cracked open, then the other. While the knocking and calling ceased, Wilson was sure the person was still waiting outside the door. Sighing, he crawled out of bed—there might have been a loud thump—before getting to his feet and rubbing his head. He took another moment to rub the drowsiness out of his eyes before walking toward the door and opening it.
Wilson greeted Syd with a slightly sleepy smile. “Hey! You rang? Well, knocked.”

"Did I wake you?" she asked. "I guess I can go to another door and yell..." she decided, frowning slightly. "Unless you're up for a spar, that is? And don't worry, I won't tell anyone that you gave another man tongue--although you could have told me you swung that way--"

“It was only a nap, don’t worry,” Wilson reassured her as he moved his head from side to side. She might have even heard his neck crack. “I’m all awake now! Definitely up for a spar.”
Then he choked. “I—What—No—Are you—“ As he leaned against the doorway, he suddenly remembered the mission and the alternate universe. s**t. Wilson resisted the temptation to bury his face in his hands and awkwardly smiled at Sydney. “That was…not on purpose. I don’t swing that way.” A pause as he looked to the side and into the distance. “Unless the guy is pretty damn awesome.” Then he coughed and urged Sydney toward the training fields. “Plus I already have a girlfriend and how about that spar, huh?” Now was a good time to change the subject.

"Yes, a spar would be very nice, thank you!" Syd said shamelessly. Yes, she had just tormented him a little, she had even enjoyed it. But still, he had just gone along with it! He deserved to be teased. "You've got a girlfriend? Have I met her?" she asked curiously as they headed for the training field. "Was she in that illusion?"
Ahh, it was a beautiful cloudy day on the island, it could break out in rain at any moment, and she was happiest in the world that she was here and not in Halloween--wherever the hell that horseman place had been.

“Yeah, I have a girlfriend. Well…” Wilson paused, mulling over his words before he spoke again. “I don’t think you have, but she’s also a mist. She’s not very…active, and no she wasn’t in the illusion. I didn’t see her.” It would have been a nightmare if he had.
The weather was unsurprisingly cloudy. He was used to the gloomy weather, but a little bit of sun would be much appreciated, especially when the portal were still down—okay so the one to the Haunted House was open, but still. Once they were at the training field, he pulled the goggles off of his neck and summoned his weapon. Once the mask and cannons were on, he nodded at Sydney and gestured for the trainee to make the first move.

Sydney brought up her scarf, covering her nose and mouth before starting. She didn't move closer--instead she started running, aiming her crossbow as she went and shooting. The arrow barely glanced his FEAR shield.

The corners of his lips lifted when he watched Sydney lift her scarf to cover her mouth. It was an amusing sight to see. The mist trainee began to rush toward him and Wilson reacted. Cannon arms by his side, he rushed out of the arrow’s line of fire and managed to escape with a tiny scratch. Afterwards, he pointed an arm at Sydney and fired off a tiny shot that dispersed into a small cloud of gas. It seemed somewhat effective, but Wilson wasn’t going to stop and stare at his handiwork. Not for long, at least.

The scarf helped, she thought, but the cloud still messed with her vision--which was dangerous for the misty. She relied heavily on her vision when fighting. She waited for a slight breeze, heading into it and letting it blow some of the gas away before bringing up her crossbow to aim and shoot again.
This time she hit him hard, aiming for his neck.

Her second shot was better, much better. The arrow was dangerously close to his head, but quick reflexes managed to have it avoid his skull. Instead the arrowhead was embedded into his shoulder. Wilson hissed, letting a single cannon drop to the grass so he could pull it out. There was a tiny squelch once it came out. The hunter winced, but then readjusted his weapon for another hit. He fired off a couple of shots, one after the other. The resulting cloud was much bigger. While he considered the possibility of getting into melee range to bash her with his cannons, he didn’t want a direct shot from her arrows either, so he stayed back. He stepped carefully within the cloud of gas.

She pulled back, bringing Izy up slightly and walking around the cloud, waiting for the breeze again. This gas was extremely difficult to deal with in a fight--she was glad he was on her side in a real fight, she thought.
She lifted a finger into the air, testing the wind again and moving so she was upwind of the cloud. Then, when she saw a solid object--she shot.

The arrow met its target. Wilson let out another hiss when the arrowhead slammed into his shoulder. “Geezus,” he murmured as he hastily removed it before he walked around again. His mask only provided him a bit more visibility. It mostly prevented him from falling into massive coughing fits. He walked in the direction of the arrow and swung his arms, pushing the blades on his cannons forward.

Izy asked her, sounding quite smug indeed.
Why yes, Izy, I would, Syd replied, moving again so she was upwind from the other hunter. Can you tell me what it is?
he purred. The volley of arrows that hit the other hunter when she pulled the trigger almost made her squeal like a little girl. She WAS grinning like an idiot--and even hugged her crossbow.
"Oh, I LIKE that," she said.

He should have seen it coming. Really, he should have. The pain from one arrow after another was too much for Wilson to keep his mouth shut. He let out a pained yelp. [Come on, kiddo. Tis only a scratch.] The hunter grimaced. Now where have I heard that before? [By the way…] … [Use it.] … [Use it now.] … [I SAID USE IT.]
Sighing, Wilson lifted his cannons and shot a mass of green gas Sydney that dispersed into an even larger cloud of green.

Wilson hit HARD. But she'd known that since their first spar, she thought as she hit the ground, groaning loudly and rubbing her ribs--only to wince at the touch. She almost wished she had a cover of smoke or gas or whatever it was for herself, at the moment. It was hard to breathe.
But she shoved herself to her feet, remembering times where taking a break would kill her far too easily. She brought up her crossbow, aiming it even as she was gaining her breath--and shot him.
