The sun was making the steady climb to its zenith in the sky, shortening Jemadari's shadow as he headed back into the heart of the pride lands. He'd been scouting down on the eastern side of the pride that day, looking out for herds to aid the hunting parties and generally ensuring that the peace was kept. It was good work but lonely, too. In those moments the golden lion would often retreat into his thoughts, submerging himself in them for a moment or two before regaining his awareness.
Then repeat.
More recently, thoughts of adventure and promotion had turned into thoughts of a particular friend. He hadn't seen her in a while so perhaps that was why she was on his mind a lot. Her kids were probably growing fast - becoming independent and strong and kind; just like their mother. Parenthood seemed an adventure in itself - though a different adventure from what he had dreamed of.
Distant roars of huntresses returning from a hunt dragged him from his thoughts, his ears twisting, wondering if Kwasi was amongst their number. He really ought to go and see her again. Good friends were hard to come by and she...she was different from his other friends. She put a warmth in his heart. If he'd asked his mother why that was, she might have smiled and called it a crush. Or the beginnings of love. But he couldn't ask his mother and that left him with only a few possibilities.
Lutalo would just scoff and laugh. Juba would leap into theories and assumptions and treat him like an experiment. Of all his friends it was Endesha who might have been the most use but he had not seen her in a while and the swamplands was further than he wanted to go at that moment.
Shaking the dust and sun out of his mane he quickened his pace to make for the trees, hoping to find some shade before the heat of midday could tire him.

She thought about him too these days. And dreamed. Very boring dreams, as her visions usually were. Usually just Jemadari walking around. Sometimes Kwasi felt a little indecent, like she was magically spying on her friend. But it wasn't voluntary! She had never been able to control her visions, they just came and went as they pleased, it seemed.
And right now it pleased them to show her this charming lion she saw every now and then. Kwasi'roho had come to accept it was because she liked him... not just in a friendly manner, and though she might feel embarrassed if confronted with that fact, but for now she could just calmly mull over this new... um, development?
She had indeed helped with a hunt today, albeit an earlier one, when they sky was still dark. They had taken down a zebra. Kwasi wasn't hungry today, so she just left it for the others and found a tree to rest under after some wandering around. It just so happened Jemadari had a similar idea, though a few hours later, and was heading this way just as she woke up from a small nap. The chocolate lioness stretched lazily, but didn't seem in a hurry to stand up. It was too hot to do much of anything now!

[Sorry I took so long D: I deserve a slap!]
He couldn't stop the startled chirp that erupted from him as he realised that the clearing was not as empty as he had thought it would be. And then he took a short step back in surprise as he realised who it was who rested there.
Her name was on his lips before he could stop himself. "Kwasi?" He blinked, cleared his throat, and tried to regain his composure. "Sorry, I didn't realise anyone was here and--well--I was just thinking about you. That's a bit of a coincidence, isn't it?" He felt himself growing hot and flustered, his tail whipping as he tried to settle himself. His head was racing. His heart, too. And suddenly his tongue felt tied in knots and his words began to escape him. "Have you...got some time to spare?"
He brushed a paw sheepishly across the ground and forcibly tried to pull himself together. This was Kwasi'roho. His friend. He knew her and if he acted on these recent thoughts she wouldn't hold him against it, would she? Even if she didn't have similar feelings she was kind enough that she'd break him down gently and they could go back to being friends, right?
Right?
"I was thinking that maybe we could...maybe spend some time together. That..." Say it. "...perhaps you would permit me to take you out on a date?" He shook his head, annoyed at himself for his choice of words.
"Wait. Let me start that again. Kwasi'roho, I would be honoured if you would gift me your company for an hour or two."

For someone who had been feeling very lazy, she surely sat up quickly once she heard Jemadari's voice. Partly due to simply being startled, but most because it was Jemadari who was talking. Oh dear! and she had been lounging around, looking so... inelegant! for some reason that irritated her, and she smiled sheepishly. "Hello!" She replied, chipper, then realized he had just kept talking.
He had been thinking about her? That made her heart flutter involuntarily, though it was immediately supressed. He was weird today, talking funny. Usually Jemadari didn't seem this nervous and... kind of boyish. Like a younger, less confident lion. It was actually rather charming.
"I do have time to sp–" She began to reply, then he reformulated his question. And this time it included the word date.
You know, for a lioness who had spent her childhood thinking about boys and a 'prince charming', and things of the sort, she certainly hadn't imagined that something like this would happen at this point in her life. So it took Kwasi a few moments to collect herself and reply, even after he started over. She just needed a few more seconds to catch up. "Jemadari, I, um." Wait, no ums. "I mean, I would love to."

For a horrible moment he thought he was about to be shot down the very first time he asked a girl out. His heart gave a worried twinge and then suddenly she was saying that she would 'love to' and he couldn't keep the smile off of his face. Had she really said that? She had, hadn't she!! But then there was the next part, wasn't there? He'd asked her out on a date and he had nothing planned. Nothing at all!
He grasped for a concept and snatched hold of the first thing that came to mind.
"I'm glad." He responded with a happy 'prrrum'. "Forgive me for not having anything solid planned but perhaps you would like to take a walk out to the meadows? After the recent rains I hear the colours are fantastic. Some of my sisters dragged me out to see them when we were younger and I haven't been since. It'd be nice to go and see them again and even better with company."

The idea that someone could be so happy for her company made Kwasi feel all... good! And for her part she was very glad for his company, which made everything it even better.
His lack of solid plans wasn't disheartening, and the one he came up with seemed good to him. Kwasi couldn't recall the last time she had been to the meadows, if she ever had been. "That sounds great," She still wasn't feeling particularly eloquent. "I don't think I've ever been there."
