IT had been an exciting week for Fairbreeze and his siblings. Their grandmother had come to visit, after having been told of why Jarita and Eversong had stayed away for so long by Mercy during her travels, and the most exciting part for Fairbreeze was that today he was spending some time with him grandma, just the two of them. He didn't mind sharing her attention with his other siblings but it was always nice to get all the attention for a little bit. Along with his grandmother had come his mothers best friend, Bangil, who had been quickly dubbed Aunt Bangil. Fairbreeze liked the brown mare and hoped to get to spend some time with her during their visit as well. But for the moment it was all about him and grandma so the colt stood proudly, looking up at her grandmother. He could see where his mother got her markings and colors from. Though Charulekha had no wings, something grandfather had though. He wondered if one day he would get to meet his grandfather.
Fairbreeze glanced around him real quick, ensuring Lapin wasn't about to come charging out of the bushes and interrupt his visit. But apparently the little filly was either distracted elsewhere or had been wrangled in by her mother. "What should we do today grandma?" He asked curiously. She had already been shown a good chunk of the herds lands so giving her a tour was pointless, he didn't want to chance running into Lapin doing so either, and while there was plenty to do together he just couldn't decide on what himself. "Will grandpa come and visit one day? Or will we get to see him when mom and dad take us up to where you live?" He couldn't refer to where his grandmother lived as home, because in his mind this was his home here even though he knew it wasn't where his parents typically lived.

The trip to visit Jarita and her new family was arduous...it had taken her and Bangil a good bit of time and they likely wouldn't have made it at all if Mercy's directions had not been so good. Once she had arrived however and been shown around she had decided that the trip was worth it and even better...her daughter had found a fine safe place to raise her children..even if she did think it a little bit odd that said herd was ruled by Usdia.
"We can do whatever you want to do" Char told her grandson with a warm look. It was amazing to think that he was her grandson - and yet it was completely unmistakable - she could easily pick out the traits that the colt had inherited from herself and Nabu. She could only hope that she had inherited more of his mothers personality..oh Eversong was a fine stallion now, but Char had not approved of him when she had first met him, he'd been a bit too..'free' at that time of his life. "I'm sure that he will, he would have come this time but he had to go and visit your Aunt Meret and her children" She explained.

A slight frown crosses Fairbreezes lip for only a fraction of a moment. There was so much he wanted to do, but he just couldn't decide. He knew a few things for certain, his grandmother wouldn't want to go play in the mud, nor would she likely want to tromp through the thicker growth forest where branches tended to reach out and grab manes and tails, so those two activities were out. They could go down to the stream, but he was fairly certain Kaliri had taken her there. There was the foal fort he and Kaliri had made, and while he was proud of it he knew he couldn't show his grandmother no matter what. Well, he supposed in a way it didn't really matter what they ended up doing, as long as that time was spend together, since he didn't know how long she would be staying before going back to her home. "Let's go for a walk." He suggested, thinking that doing so would give him more time to think up something fun to do.
As he began to walk he looked up at his grandmother. "I sure do look forward to meeting him. And Aunt Meret and my cousins as well." His family seemed fairly large to him, especially if he counted the herd he lived with. None of the Usdia were related to him, but he considered them family in a way, though Lapin was like that annoying cousin everyone tried to avoid. The thought made him smile, in reality she wasn't so bad, it was just hard to keep up with her in a variety of ways thanks to her large amounts of energy, but boy was she fast! "Does Aunt Meret live very far away?" He asked, trying to figure out the distances they would need to travel in order to see them.

"Not to terribly far from where your Grandfather and I live" Char told the little colt as they walked along - she rather approved of his choice of activity. Walking was a good, clean and wholesome activity for young foals to engage in..unlike the frantic scurrying she had witnessed from another member of the herd.
"Of course the journey to where we live will be the longest part, it was quite difficult for your Aunt Bangil and I to make it in some spots...but then again, we don't have wings! That will make it a great deal easier I should think!" She added with a slight laugh. Secretly she rather hoped that Jarita chose to bring the foals to visit relatively soon - she wasn't sure precisely how long it took for one to get used to flying but it couldn't be that terribly long could it. Well..she could always ask. "Can you fly yet? I don't recall when your mother started flying but then she was only half wind..your three quarters so your bones ought to be lighter then your mothers thanks to your father"

Fairbreeze gave his head a nod. Well that didn't seem too bad, their longest journey would be to where grandmother lived, then from there is would be a simply short trip to see Aunt Meret and his cousins. He was definitely looking forward to seeing more of his family and seeing where they lived as well. The Little Meadow herd was small but a great place for him and his siblings to live, yet there was so much more out there to explore. Lapin had seen a lot of it as she tended to run off a lot but Fairbreeze didn't have the Usdia foals reckless ways so his major explorations would need to wait until he was a bit older.
A smile grew on his lips as his grandmother explained the long journey it took to get here. Yes it likely would be easier with the ability to fly over most of the land and larger obstacles. He gave his head a shake at her question about flying. "Not yet, but dad says we will be flying soon. We practice a lot, sometimes I can get off the ground if I try real hard but I'm back down pretty quickly." That didn't discourage him one bit and in fact drove him to practice plenty. "Dad says once my wings are a bit stronger I'll be able to fly short distances, then after a little while I'll be as good as he and mom are." Fairbreeze was certainly excited about being able to fly, it would give him a lot of freedom and the ability to travel long distances in a short amount of time than walking.

Char listened to the colt as he explained how his flying lessons were going, she hadn't really been able to help with such lessons with Jarita..her father had handled all of that while she had worked with Meret on more ground related things. But this was her grandson and she was quite interested in seeing how he was doing. "I would love to see one of your lessons!" She told him with a warm look. "It must be exciting to be able to fly."
Not that she would ever know..and to be perfectly honest she was just fine with staying on the ground thank you very much..but her mate seemed to enjoy flying as did her daughter and she was sure that her grandchildren would as well. "I'm glad that your father is spending so much time teaching you, I hope your a good student and listen to what he tells you" She went on. It was a relief really to know that Eversong was spending time with his children, she had been sure, absolutely certain that the stallion would run off if Jarita got pregnant...but she was more then glad to find that wasn't the case. Perhaps she had just been being an overprotective mother.

Fairbreeze looked up at his grandmother with a smile. "We practice every day after the afternoon heat has gone away. So you can watch us when we practice later today." He would work even harder at it with his grandmother watching. "Well I can't really fly yet, so I can't say whether it's exciting or not. But I believe it will be. I know watching father and mother fly around showing us how it's done brings a sense of wonder. I think it would be like running really fast, only you're moving so quickly your feet don't even touch the ground." That was his impression of flying at the moment, though that could certainly change as he learned to truly fly.
"I listen to him very well. Sometimes Falconwing pokes fun at me because I try so hard and listen so closely to what father had to tell us, but I really do want to learn. And father is a good teacher." He glanced out across the meadow as they continued along with their walk. "Mother is a good teacher as well, though she lets father do most of our flying lessons she's there to help and encourage us. I like that." Between both of his parents he had a wealth of knowledge ready to be shared between him and his siblings, they just needed time to share it with them. He remained silent for a few moments, considering his next words before speaking again. "I sure look forward to anything you and grandpa can teach me. I like learning Grandma, I like playing too, but I do like finding new things that I didn't know before. You know that little filly Lapin? She's so full of energy and spends most of her time running around but she's very good at learning as well. I found out she is learning about herbs and other things from a stallion she met in the forest during one of her wanderings."

Char smiled at the colt as he told her more of his lessons, yes it seemed like her daughter had made a good choice after all - despite his earlier carousing days Eversong had settled down and beaten the odds by becoming a good father. Perhaps she ought to thank him for that someday. "I wouldn't miss it for the world" She assured the young colt - and she wouldn't, she'd make it to his flying lesson if it was the last thing she did. "And that sounds like an excellent description of flying to me" She agreed with a slight laugh. "It's very much the way I've always thought of it"
"Well...I'm sure I can think of something to teach you.." Char went on, though she couldn't think of anything right off the top of her head. Of course when he spoke of the filly Lapin she forgot all about it anyways "Oh dear! Her mothers knows I hope! It's not always safe to speak with strangers in the woods you know"

Fairbreeze beamed up at his grandmother, oh now he couldn't wait for flying lessons to happen today. And he was certain Kaliri and Falconwing would love to show off to grandmother as well, since they practiced just as hard as he did...well maybe not Falconwing so much. He was glad to hear his grandmother saw flying the way that he did, it mean that she could almost know what it was like but she be on the ground where she was destined to live.
More so than anything Fairbreeze was looking forward to whatever his grandmother would teach him, even if those lessons didn't happen until they went to see her at her home he would enjoy every second of it, he just knew it. He couldn't help but nod at her concerns over Lapin. "Oh yes, her mother knows, Syn likes to wander a lot too, so she passed that on to Lapin. I don't know if she has met the stranger but she didn't seem too concerned when Lapin told her, she just said to be careful and to always let her know when she was going out to see him." He told his grandma with a shrug. "I heard her mother talk to her grandpa and I guess Lapin says she wants to learn about herbs so she can be a healer for the herd. Can you imagine that? Lapin a healer? I don't know if she can stand still long enough to help anyone." He let out a small chuckle. Though it did make him wonder, what would he do when he grew up, Lapin already knew and she was only slightly older than he was.

"Well as long as she knows I suppose." Char remarked though she wasn't sure she herself would have been comfortable letting her children run off with a supposed teacher in the woods - then again she vaguely recalled Bangil and Jarita getting into heaps of trouble as foals so perhaps it was just her older perspective making her more paranoid now.
"Perhaps it will get her to focus on something other then running around and I suppose having a healer who is keen on rushing to your aid when you need it might not be such a bad thing..." She responded, a herd healer was certainly an important thing to have and if Lapin wanted to fill that roll then Char wasn't going to knock her for it - ambitious goal though it was."What about you? Have you given any thought to what you might like to do when your older?"

His grandmother had a point, while Lapin didn't look like the best candidate for a healer she seemed to not only be passionate about learning the craft but also being able to rush to someone who needs healing was definitely a great asset to any healer. Some injuries, especially poison, needed to be looked at as soon as possible so Lapin's energetic ways would certainly come in handy in those situations. And that got him thinking oddly enough on what his grandmother was about to ask him. What was he going to do when he was older? It was a tough decision to make and like it or not Fairbreeze had no idea what he wanted to do.
Glancing over at his grandmother Fairbreeze came to a stop and shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know yet. It seems like a long way off but I know soon enough I'll be older and will need to figure out what I want to do." He knew healer wasn't for him, after seeing all the herbs Lapin had to remember he was certain that there would be something more suited for him, he just needed to find out what. "I'd like to see what is out there first. What lies beyond this herd and maybe I can find my calling. It's kind of hard to know what you want to be when your in a place like this." This kind of place meaning sheltered with limited things to see and do. But he knew there was a big wide world out there just beyond the herds territory, where his grandmother and many other Soquili lived, and surely he would find something that he loved out there and would dedicate his life to. Until then he was quite happy with his current life and honestly wouldn't change things for the world even if it did mean living away from a chunk of his family and having Usdia as herd mates.

Char listened to Fair with a slight nod of her head. "Yes, well some Soquili know what they want to do from a young age and others take a bit more time - there's nothing wrong with taking your time to decide, the important thing is finding what it is that makes you happy." She told the colt with a loving nuzzle. It was true that the boys life had been somewhat sheltered up until now but to Char's way of thinking there was nothing wrong with that at his age - better to grow up in a safe and happy herd and explore the world later on then grow up in constant danger. It seemed that Jarita had found a very nice place for her foals to grow up.
"This place is a fine place for foals and those who have already seen the world and merely wish for quiet - but I don't think anyone will object if you want to go off and adventure a little bit before settling down." She shared kindly "Your mother took a little while and she and Bangil were always running off on an adventure when they were younger - so don't let her tell you she didn't" She added with a slight chuckle.

She sure had some good advice and Fairbreeze loved that about his grandmother. Why should he rush into a decision in what he wanted to do when he was older when doing that would likely find him doing something he didn't enjoy. Then he would need to find something else to do and think of all that time wasted on something that wasn't for him. Nope, it was best to think things through completely before deciding. While he was happy to see that Lapin had found her calling at such a young age he just needed to look at his own siblings and Poe as well, for those three had not decided, to his knowledge at least, what they would do when they were older. He gave her a nuzzle back before speaking. "I bet when I find the thing I'm meant to do I'll know right away, so I don't mind waiting at all." Besides he did have a good life here, like grandmother pointed out, so why rush out of it.
Of course hearing that his mother and Aunt Bangil went on adventures when they were younger certainly got his attention. His mother didn't seem the type to run off and have fun, but then again she was an adult now so she had likely matured from a foal to the mare she was today. "Mom went on adventures with Aunt Bangil?" He could not hide the hint of shock in his voice. "What did they do? Did they ever get in trouble?" Not that he expected his mother to have gotten in trouble but finding out something new about his mother did get his curiosity going. And now he also wanted to know what his father was like as a foal, but the only way to find that out would be to go ask him. Maybe Fairbreeze would do that some time in the future, for now he wanted to hear more about what his mother had done when she was younger.

Char nodded slightly to the colt "I expect you will yes, that is normally the way things go, once you find your calling in life it is quite obvious." Char agreed, she herself had searched long and hard for a cause to follow or merely a reason to live...how very shocked she had been to discover that it had been her children. Perhaps being a mother was not the most glamorous of vocations but it was one that she wouldn't give up for anything. Her children..and now her grandchildren were her life and she was quite happy with that. She would never be known throughout the land for being brave or heroic..but neither would she be known for being wicked and that was just fine with her.
"Well it was more like Aunt Bangil dragged your mother off on adventures..your mother was never one to go off and get her hooves dirty but your Aunt Bangil learned pretty early one that promising her a pretty view or something shiny was normally enough to make her go along with it." Char laughed slightly as she recalled the rather mis matched two as foals. It was really quite strange that they had ended up best friends as different as they were but that was just the way things worked out sometimes. "Oh they got into a great deal of trouble, they even got lost a few times."

Fairbreeze was quite content knowing that when the time was right he would know what it was he would do with his life. But, being curious he just had to ask the question that was nagging him to say. "Grandma, has anyone ever not found their calling in life?" He wasn't sure such a thing could happen, how could one go their entire life without knowing what they were to do? Surely somewhere along the line they would have encountered their calling, well perhaps they did but they didn't realize it was their calling and so ignored it thinking that there was something else they were to do. And what if they realized, all too late, that what they had already passed up was their purpose, then what would they do? The questions circled around his head as he waited to see what his grandmother said, surely her answer would satisfy him but if by chance it didn't he would ask some more questions about it.
But for the moment he concentrated on what she was saying about his mother and Aunt Bangil. He liked Aunt Bangil, she seemed like the fun type and hearing that it was her and not his mother who had been the one behind all of their adventures made him smile. He would need to make sure to spend some more time with her and perhaps she could take him on some adventure before they returned to their homes. "That must be why she keeps an extra eye on us, I bet she doesn't want us getting lost like her and Aunt Bangil did when they were little." He paused for a moment before continuing. "But I know not to wander off without letting them know where I'm going first. I am very responsible." In fact the only secret he kept from his parents, from everyone, was his foal fort that he and Kaliri built. It was just too special to share.
