 The past weeks had been a bit difficult. It was hard for Aquitaine to fully come to grips with the fact that she could not heal like her her parents could. At first they had simply thought it was that she needed more practice, but as time went on it was apparent that her skill would never be good. Any attempt she made was weak at best and drained her of nearly every ounce of her energy. So Aquitaine had temporarily given up on trying to heal. It pained her, because as a unicorn it was her right, her gift, to be able to heal others with her powers. Yet it seemed something, be it her different appearance or something else, had robbed her of that gift.
However after some time thinking over it, and the advice of her parents, Aquitaine set out on a new goal. She would learn a different way to heal, a way that while perhaps not as effective as her natural powers should have been, but effective nonetheless. Whether it be minor or major injuries, there were plants that could help, even if temporary until a true healer could be summoned. If she could not be a true healer, then she could and would learn the knowledge of the herbs, use them as her power and help those who need it. If those who needed help would accept it of her, she knew her appearance would deter some from accepting but that would not deter her, she could not allow that to hold her back.
Now the challenge was to find someone who could teach her this knowledge. Her parents did not possess this knowledge, they could tell her there were herbs used in healing, even name a few, but not what each did and how to properly use them. What she needed was to find a mentor who could teach her this knowledge. And so she had set out to find such a Soquili, keeping her hopes high, and her senses alert, as she went.

 It was early when the dark colored mare exited the tunnel to her home in the mountains. Taking a breath she headed out through the thickly grown trees and into the sunlight. Her lion like tail flicked behind her as she checked the space in her herb back around her neck. There was a lot of space and it seemed that she was getting low on sage, barley and a couple other things. the uni mare stepped into the sunlight and headed off to find what she was missing.
The grass had grown tall in the past months and finding things within it was going to be hard. Stepping carefully around the open field for the time, she poked her nose at the grass here and there. "Oh this will take for ever." Nightling frowned as she looked around the over grown field. "I will have to go further away from home then normal." while she didn't like the idea, it had to be done.
Traveling away from her normal grounds, Nightling would never have imagined someone would come asking to know about herbs and their uses. Really the thought was the furthest from her mind as she scoured the ground for herb leaves.

Meadows. They were not her favorite place to be, but that was the downside to leaving her ocean side, it meant having to do things she wasn't used to and that she was uncomfortable with. It was just a small obstacle, she could do this. If Aquitaine could just find what she was looking for all would be well. First step, crossing this meadow. With a deep breath Aquitaine set out across the grass. It didn't take too long before she saw another Soquili. She came to a stop, watching the other. Aquitaine was close enough to see the mare had unicorn traits. At first she thought the mare was simply grazing, but after a few moments of watching it looked as though she might be searching for something. There was another moment of hesitation before Aquitaine continued forward, making her way over to the mare.
"Is...everything alright?" She finally spoke as she neared the mare as she searched the grass. What could she have lost out here? Now that she was closer Aquitaine looked over the mare. She was a pure unicorn as far as she could tell. Then again her own father looked like a pure unicorn though she knew he was part wind. "Did you lose something?" Aquitaine glanced into the grass trying to see if there was any unusual objects that the mare might be searching for. Her dragon rumbled, unhappy with how close she had gotten to the stranger but Aquitaine did her best to ignore it. This was an opportunity to help someone else and she would not let him get in the way...if possible of course.

"Hmm?" So preoccupied with her search for things she had neglected to keep an eye out on her surroundings. Pulling her head up and knocking her braided mane back from her face, small bits of dried grass clinging in places. Pale colored eyes looked at the strange mare headed her direction. She wasn't overly surprised at the appearance of this one, having seen a few around these days. Hardly anything surprised her. "No no, everything is alright. Just searching for some herbs and roots. My stock is kinda running low."
Tilting her head to one side a little, Nightling noted that this one didn't seem all that comfortable out in the open? Or perhaps it was just in meadows? She couldn't quite put her hoof on it, but something seemed to upset this stranger. "What about you? You feeling alright?" Perhaps it was the wrong question to ask, but it seemed like a good thing. At the time.

Wait. Did this mare just say she was looking for herbs and roots? Could this mean that Aquitaine had stumbled on the one thing that she had hoped to find today? It seemed almost too god to be true. Aquitaine gave her head a slight shake to cast away her shock of the situation. "Herbs and roots? Do...you mean for healing?" Please say they were used for healing! This mare may be a unicorn and thus possess nature healing abilities but she had heard that plenty of unicorns, and other breeds for that matter, often used herbs to supplement their healing.
The mares question caught her off guard. Was she feeling alright? Aquitaine wondered what the mare meant like this. But then again Aquitaine did probably look a bit nervous being out here and so that could be the cause for the mares concern. "Oh...well...yes, I'm feeling alright." She told the mare with a slight nod of her head before letting out a soft sigh. "I guess I'm just a little uncomfortable...being so far away from home and everything I know." Not to mention she didn't always have the best reception with strangers, though so far this mare had been friendly and hadn't balked at Aquitaine's odd looks. "I'm...Aquitaine." She finally remembered her manners and introduced herself with a slight bow of her head.

"More of a mix for both. But yes, mostly they are for healing, why do you ask?" Nightling watched this strange mare with interest. There was a kind of pleading look to the mare's face at the mention of herbs. Raising a brow a little, Nightling merely watched the younger mare. "My name's Nightling, it is a pleasure meeting you, Aquitaine." Nightling smiled in greeting.
She listened as Aquitaine spoke of being alright, just that she was far from home. Well that was understandable, she would be nervous too, but home was never too far away. Even if she had to travel a ways to find the herbs she needed for her remedies and such. "It is always hard to be away from home. If I hadn't wanted to go out on a limb to help someone, I would still be home with my parents." not the best thing to say in this case, but it seemed alright. "Were you interested in learning about herbs and their qualities?"

So they were, some of them at least, to be used for healing. Well this was just great! How often did things like this happen? Stumbling upon the thing one was looking for with almost no effort whatsoever. Aquitaine could not hide her excitement at this news. "I can't believe I found someone who uses herbs for healing so easily. You just made my day." There was a smile crossing every bit of Aquitaine's face, but she did manage to keep herself calm. Getting too excited would only be a distraction. "It's so very good to meet you Nightling." Oh if only Gaul was here, he would have been absolutely thrilled to find out that she had found a mentor so quickly. Well at least she hoped this mare would be up to mentoring her. Slow down, Aquitaine scolded herself, you haven't even asked her to teach you yet so don't get too excited.
"I left my home to find someone who could teach me about herbs, I miss my parents deeply but this is something I really want to do. I plan to return to them as soon as I can." She began to explain feeling much more relaxed now than when she first encountered the mare. "I thought I would have to search a long time. I can't believe I stumbled upon you here. Would you be willing to teach me about them? I fear my natural healing is a bit...weak, so knowledge of herbs would be a great asset to me." Her unicorn healing was far more than weak, it was practically nonexistent without exerting far too much of herself to use only a small amount of it. Herbs would be a valuable knowledge that could help tie an injured Soquili over until they could find a real healer to assist them.

Nightling gave a chuckle as the mare before her lit up as if someone had lit a fire inside of her. Shaking her head a little, her tail flicked at a fly that flew past behind her. "Happens once in a blue moon I suppose." Nightling chuckled again. "I have never thought of teaching another, but if you are willing to put in the work of learning the herbs and their uses. It will be a lot of work." She wasn't trying to discourage the mare, but Nightling wanted to know if this one could commit to learning.
"I had to learn things myself with trial and error. And the error part was always the heart breaking..." She closed her eyes tightly shaking her head a bit. Nightling had almost didn't catch that this mare's natural healing abilities weren't the strongest, really her own wasn't that much, but it was enough to help bluster a body's healing capabilities. Herbs were her main goal for the minor injuries. "My own healing magic reserves aren't the strongest, even for what I look like. I have enough power to heal one other with major injuries. But herbs are my main items for the smaller things. Keeps the magic on standby, also lets the reserves bluster for times of greater need."

Aquitaine made sure not to rush into this. She may have been excited to stumble upon a possible mentor, in fact had it not been the exact reason she had set out from her home in the first place, but now that she was here she wanted to make sure not to jump and say yes without pausing to think. So she stood there for a moment considering the possibilities. This was something she really wanted to do. "Yes." She finally said after thinking it over very carefully. "This is something I want...no that I need to do. I don't care how long it takes, I am committed to learning, if you are willing to teach me." This would be a very important part of her life. This would allow her to heal others if needed, and that way she wouldn't have to rely on her weak if not completely ineffective healing powers.
Hearing Nightling speak of her own struggles with healing and the failures of the past brought a new light to the situation. Aquitaine had never met another unicorn who couldn't heal well. Then again she hadn't met many others in general. "I didn't know that true unicorns could struggle to heal. I always thought they were the strongest. Guess I'm not the only one who can't use our natural gift." Not that Aquitaine looked like a true unicorn, yet it was still something she had always hoped to be able to do.

Nightling gave a hearty laugh, "I'm not as pure as I look. True I have the horn and tail of a pure, but my bloodline is muddled. My parents were Wind and unicorn. My grandparents on my mother's side were a wing and earthborn. On my father's side was Alicorn and Fluttercorn. I have a bit of everything in my blood." Smiling lightly leaning to one side a little. "So my magic is diluted.
A smile still stretched across Nightling's face as she got back to the matter at hand.. Er hoof in this case. She stepped forwards and around the mare before her, getting a good look at her. It wasn't that there was anything wrong with Aquitaine, she just want to see what she looked like besides a pretty face. "It has been a long time since I thought of teaching anyone the ways of herbs. But we shall see how you do." Nightling looked around for a good, clear place to start her lessons, she had herbs to find and the day wasn't getting any longer. "The first task you will have as my student is to help me find some, Sage, Barely and Willow roots. Lets find a flat stone or something, and I will show you what we are looking for." moving from her spot, Nightling headed towards the trees searching for a spot to lay out what herbs she had in her pouch.

A smile grew across Aquitaine's lips as Nightling explained her family blood lines a bit. So while she looked pure she was anything but. This actually made Aquitaine feel a bit better. "My father looks pure as well," she explained, "but his father was an alicorn so he has mixed blood as well. Though my mother comes from pure blood." It was obvious that she herself was impure, but that was exactly why she was here, because her healing was too weak and she needed to learn other ways to heal. Plus any knowledge she could gain of the outside world would help her as well.
Aquitaine's tail twitched nervously as the mare inspected her. Her dragon rumbled, unhappy to have this mare so close, but he did not snap at her, he wouldn't unless Nightling got close enough to him. Sage, barley and willow root. Well Aquitaine wasn't quite sure what any of those looked like but this was the first step so she was quite excited. It would be her first lesson in herbs. "Alright." She followed Nightling as they searched for a spot to lay out some herbs. As they went along she tried to guess what possibly uses these herbs could have. Could they reduce a fever, fight poison or maybe reduce swelling? Ah the possibilities were endless and they were only talking about three herbs currently.
