Oh the Rogue lands. How exciting it was to venture away from the safety of the Usafi'Tukufu's jungle. The mostly white leopard flicked her tail in slight annoyance as she gazed around. She was close to the edge of her home in the jungle, so the sparely placed palm looked a little odd out here where the land began to morph into a more Savannah style region. Topaz colored eyes narrowed and dark ears perked as Moyo-Baridi crouched low in the tall grasses.

The sun was low in the sky as dusk began to creep up from the opposing horizon. Dark hues of purple bleeding into blue then orange across the sky did little to help the very light furred female hide. Sure, the grass was tall, but the coloring was not conducive to consealing white fur, and she knew the darker it got, the more obvious her being there would be. Such is the life of such a fair furred leopard. Though, so long as no one tried to attack her, she supposed it was not too horrible to stand out.

With a sigh she rolled onto her back, paws in the air and occasionally began batting at little bugs that flitted by her. Her long claws, which made climbing a breeze, sliced through the air as she growled softly, trying to cage a particularly unlucky butterfly in those talons of hers. The jungle was boring, but it seemed the borderlands were just as much so. Her family was all crazy, her super kind hearted mother and sister made her want to roll her eyes at every little kind thing they attempted. The only bearable one in the Coalition was her grandmother who seemed to share Moyo's fondness for cruelty, and perhaps a spark of insanity that was passed down, skipping a generation.

At least it is cooler out here than in the heart of the jungle.." She thought out loud with a mildly bored expression as she shook a paw to rid her claws of the now shredded Butterfly.

Blue eyes watched the white leopardess from a distance. He had never seen another leopard outside of his mother, her friend, and the multitude of cubs that shared the den. Still, after spending all his time around them, someone new was a novelty. This leopard was white with just a bit of brown here and there, and he wondered how she survived. His mother - and all of his siblings - were bright blue in color and he knew hunt wasn't - and wouldn't be - easy for them. He was very thankful for his more natural coloring, even if his orange fur was a bit bright.

Jua Bwana tilted his head a bit as he watched the larger female capture a butterfly. That was pretty hard to do...he had tried, so he would know. Curiosity peaked, he stood and slowly shuffled closer to the female. He didn't want to come off as stupid, so he kept his head high so he could look down his nose at her. Granted, if she stood up, he wouldn't really be able to do that.

"Is that all you can catch?" he asked as she stopped a few paces away. "Butterflies must not be able to see how badly you stand out against the rest of the savanna." His mother had told him they smelled with their feet, so maybe they had bad eyesight. You couldn't smell from your feet very well, after all. That's what your nose was for.

Moyo's ears flicked towards the young leopard looking down at her. After a moment of sizing him up, she pinned her ears back and glowered at him. This was not a member of her Coalition. Surely she could remember such an oddly colored cub, especially since he looked like a pumpkin. The older female rolled onto her belly and looked over at him from the new angle, being eye level with him now. Bright blue eyes gazed back at her as she lightly clawed at the ground with a paw.

"What, the butterfly? No, of course that's not all I can catch. I'm a huntress." She said matter-of-factly. True enough she didn't blend into the savanna very well, but she was a jungle Leopard. The creatures in the Savanna were no concern of hers. Tossing her head to the side and closing her eyes as she pulled up a clump of dirt and weeds she let her eyes open again thinly, gazing sidelong at the boy. "I usually hunt from jungle trees. It's not hard to blend in if your pray is down on the ground and you are high in the tree tops. Pounce down and they do not know what hit them." She added with a slight huff.

As annoying as she thought cubs were, she had to give this one kudo's for approaching her. Either he was brave and didn't think she would attack him, or he was naive. Luckily for him Moyo was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. "Your colors must make stalking pretty hard at night, and during the day I'm sure it gets unbearably hot out here."

Bwana snorted quietly at the white leopard's answer. Hunting in the trees? He glanced over at the jungle that wasn't too far from where they were and wondered if that was even possible or if she was just making it up to make him feel dumb. There weren't enough trees out here for that to work.

"Huntress...that's not hunting. You sound like you barely have to work for your food." His mother worked hard for their meals, and she was just as bright and oddly colored as this leopard. Well, white wasn't odd persay...it was just an 'unfortunate' color to have.

"I don't hunt for food," he said, shaking his head slightly. Oh silly! He was far too young to try to take down food. Butterflies and lizards, though, were a different matter. They were also a lot slower than antelope. Butterflies were pretty hard to catch, though. "My prey are slow and stupid, so my coloring doesn't matter. Once I get bigger I'll be too fast and powerful for it to be a problem."

Granted, he was the smallest of any of his brothers and sisters. He knew he'd grow up strong, but big might be a bit of an issue.

A snicker left her maw as she rose to her haunches and sat, looking down at him now. "I'm part of a Coalition and I happen to be the Queen's granddaughter, so no. I do not really have to work hard for my meals. The perks of being royal born I guess." It was almost amusing to watch him get a little irritated at her. "I do know how to hunt. Not even I was exempt from training. And as far as your age, it never hurts to start practicing your skills early. I began learning to hunt when I was just a cub like you."

Once more she peered at the cub curiously, taking in his size and features. Granted, she herself was not a behemoth of a Leopard, but she wasn't tiny either. Her long tail whipped about behind her as she smirked down at the cub, leaning down to get a closer look. "Hey, you're kinda small aren't you? I mean, I've eaten bigger rabbits than you." She teased with a mostly serious tone, trying to get under the little males fur. If he was going to stick around and pester her, she was going to poke and prod at him. See how thick his hide was, so to speak.

"Oh yeah?" Bwana said with a smirk. "My mother says my father is a king of a pride. So that makes me a prince, which makes me more royal than you." Right? That was how it worked...he was pretty sure, anyway. And of course, he had never met his father and didn't know where this pride was...but hey. Mother didn't lie. Not to them, anyway. She'd lie to her friend and her cubs, but to her own children she never said one little lie.

At least, that's what he thought. Who really knew in the long run?

Bwana sniffed quietly as the larger leopard commented on his size. He knew better than to get up in arms about it - he was just a cub, after all, who knew how big he'd end up being! - but when she said he was smaller than a rabbit, he lost his cool a bit.

"You're a big liar. I've never seen a rabbit bigger than me, and Mother brings them home all the time," he said, flicking his own tail in annoyance as he narrowed his bright blue eyes. "And I practice hunting. I'm better than my brothers and sisters. They're loud and don't care about catching stuff. They just like playing with it. Well, except Moke. He likes killing things. We go hunting for lizards together and we're pretty good."

He puffed out his chest a bit, proud of his collection of dead lizards in the cave. Not that he could show her, of course.

Moyo's ears flickered to the cub and a smirk crossed her maw again, "Of a pride? You don't even know? You do realize you have to be titled an heir by the coalition or pride to be called a prince, right?" A soft laugh left the females lips as she closed her eyes, her tail curling around her back legs. How quick this leopard cub was to try and make himself seem impressive, yet he didn't seem to even know how a prides ranks worked.

As he got huffy about being called smaller than a rabbit she ceased her laughing to shake her head, a smile crossing her face. "Your mother must catch very tiny rabbits then." Her words were smooth and her tone mocking. Yes, Moyo did love to watch other get riled up by her comments, it was just as fun picking on this cub as it had been picking on her sister when they were younger. So naive and quick to anger.

As he defended himself as a practicing hunter she lifted a paw and patted him roughly on the head, "Oh, I'm sure you are just the fiercest little hunter... So serious and cunning I bet." Her chiding tone continued as she stifled another laugh at the young one losing his cool.

"Maybe that's how your pride works," Bwana said, unimpressed by the white leopard's tactics to tick him off. Where was the fun in a pride anyway, he wanted to know. Being out here in the open was his idea of a good time. No one to bother you unless you wanted to be bothered, you could go wherever you wanted, whenever you wanted...as long as Mother said it was okay, of course.

As she continued to poke and prod at him, though, he began to really lose his cool. Normally he liked doing that to his brothers and sisters to get them to run back to Mother, but man it was annoying when it was being done to him! The paw on his head nearly knocked him to the ground, and he snarled as the last of his patience left him.

"You stop that right now!" he demanded, lowering into a crouch, ready to pounce. Of course, his head was the size of her paw, so she would have no trouble keeping him at bay if he did jump. "Some huntress you are, smacking around leopards a quarter your size. You must get stuck on dragging duty. Can't catch anything so you're the one to bring it back!" A princess didn't like getting her paws dirty, after all. At least his sisters didn't particularly enjoy it.

His words did little to phase the older leopard. She had been the one picking on all her fellow leopards in the jungle, so she knew how to take what she dished out, even if no one really tried to dish it back to her like this little cub.

As he lowered into a crouch and demanded she stop picking on him she couldn't help but guffaw at him. Like he, a tiny cub whose head was no bigger than her paw was going to threaten her by crouching? She could picture his attempts at pouncing on her, he would lunge, hit her, then bounce off and she would maybe shift a bit, but not moving hardly at all. She gave him a 'try it' look before grinning at him.

"I do get put on carrying duty, because not only am I the one to bring down the kills most of the time, I can actually pull a kill back. What about you? You can maybe handle what, a rabbit at the biggest? I wouldn't be surprised if you even struggle with that. And I doubt you could even pull yourself up into a tree, little runt."
PostPosted: Thu Aug 16, 2012 8:41 pm

Who was this stupid leopard to think it was okay to laugh at him? She was getting him so worked up, he wanted to chew her paws to bits! He was about to pounce after the runt comment, when he suddenly realized that he was acting like a fool. She was much bigger, stronger, and faster than he. There was no way he'd survive a real fight with her. And he had to remind himself that he was being beaten with his own weapon: words.

Bwana snorted quietly and pulled out of his crouch, licking his paws to calm himself. "Sure. I'd like to see you try to catch something out here, might huntress. There's no trees to help you." He knew he couldn't catch something that she could, but he did know that out here she'd be at a disadvantage.

"And I climb higher than you can. Those branches way up high can't hold your weight anymore." Maybe when she was a cub, but now those slim branches were reserved for leopards only his size. He loved being able to go higher than his siblings, even if it was just a few branches.

A smile came to her maw as he seemed to calm down. She snickered and peered down at him. "Now that's better. You're not an idiot after all." Indeed Moyo thought this cub was smart, the way he stopped letting her words get to him and instead began spitting things back at her. He had potential to be just as horrible as she was.

At his challenge she laughed. "You dare me to capture something? Fine." With a sly smirk she used a paw to scoop up dirt and began rubbing it into her fur. After a moment she flopped down and began rolling around in it to make her fur dirty, hiding the pale white of her coat. Once she was happily dirty and covered in brown dirt and mud she began looking around, searching for movement.

"My coloring is easy to hide, so hunting out here is less hard for me than you might guess. The trick is to know how to get rid of your disadvantages, hiding them makes them no longer an issue." She stated matter of factly. After a moment of silence her ears perked as she heard a rustle in some grass up past him. Crouching low, ears perked forward and a look of concentration crossing her features, she began to stalk forward, slowly moving through the brush until she finally pounced, landing on some poor little rabbit. With a snap of her jaws the thing was dead.

Bwana didn't let the 'compliment' penetrate too far. He took it as words and nothing more. He had seen what happened when someone let 'kind' words boost their ego. Being proud and full of oneself was not what he wanted to be like. Those kind of people relied on others to live. If you pushed others away, you could be independent and strong without standing on the backs of others. Normally he'd have walked away by this point, but this leopard was fascinating him to the point of no return. She was far colder than his mother - of course, she was his mother...perhaps that was just because he was her child - and getting a good dose of his own medicine was annoying, but needed. She was also incredibly sly, if the darkening of her coat had anything to say about it.

He settled down to watch her hunt, flicking his tail as if uninterested, but really was watching with wide eyes. She was very good...she was both fast and strong, something he had to work on to get to her level. But, of course, he was just a cub. There was no way he could hope to be like that right now.

As she returned with the rabbit he scoffed quietly, even though she had done everything he had challenged her to do. "You should keep your coat like that. It looks better than that stupid white you normally have." And he could actually look at her without the sun glaring into his eyes. White hurt so much!

"So. What's your name, Miss Perfect?" he asked, wrinkling his nose slightly as if asking was disgusting him. "Or should I just call you bird poo? That's what you look like without all that dust, you know. White with some brown in it."

This cub was so ornery, Moyo had to admire his spunk, he did remind her of herself at that age. With a chuckle she dropped the rabbit at his feet and went to work shaking the dirt out of her coat and licking it off her paws. The only thing he was missing to be more like her was that edge of slight insanity, but it couldn't be helped, she had inherited that trait, while he seemed to be from a perfectly nice little family.

"White is a much more pleasant color than what you have. You look like some brightly colored bird. White is a color of purity afterall, where as orange is just some odd color you only see on prey and in sunsets." She snickered and shook her head, getting the last of the brown out of her coat, "Sunsets are cute and soft, not something that instills fear. Though, white does not instill fear either... but still, I'd rather be white than look like some sort of gourde."

Finally the sun had settled down under the horizon and the moon had come out, causing the white female to have a slight glow as the silver beams radiated off her coat.
PostPosted: Fri Aug 17, 2012 9:08 am

Bwana eyed the rabbit and had half a mind to grab it and run. That would be a bad idea, though, considering the rabbit was quite large and she could easily outrun him. Instead he remained where he was, peering up at the white lioness as she cleaned herself.

"Orange and yellow are like fire," he said with a sniff, rolling his eyes a bit. "And fire is not something to be messed with. I'd much rather be orange than walk around like a giant shiny thing and let everyone know where I am."

He was thankful that he sun had set, because the rays of the moon were far lighter than the giant ball of fire. She was no longer painful to look at. Or...not as painful to look at. She really was annoying. "And you completely ignored my question. What is your name?" he asked again, this time not beating around the bush. He wanted answers!

No worries and no rush xD Sblings can be a pain but you gotta love 'em.

Moyo shook her head slowly, so to the point and blunt. No mincing words with this guy. "I am Moyo-Baridi, but Moyo is fine." The cubs colors seemed to dull slightly in the moonlight as Moyo peered back down at him, lowering herself to lay on her stomach as she watched him, eyes flickering to the untouched rabbit with a slightly smug expression.

"And you are?" She asked in an almost bored tone as she went back to letting her talons dig into the dirt, leaving four parallel furrows in the ground. She found it a bit odd that a leopard family would try to hash out a living out in the savanna. The trees of the jungle were much easier to live in, you could lounge around in a bed of tightly strung vines and capturing prey was easier. The savanna seemed so much more difficult to hunt in, and they prey seemed a lot less plentiful, or at the very least, smaller or faster. Not that Moyo was slow, she just preffered easy prey she could pounce on from high above, hardly any work involved.
