It was early morning and Alaera was already up and ready to go. Today was a very big day, and while Nitor wasn't aware of this yet - he was still asleep - Alaera was very excited to get things rolling. It would be a lot of work but she knew the reward at the end would be worth while. It was something, after all, that they had discussed over several occasions. And while it had been Alaera on her own who made the final decision she knew Nitor would not disagree. Pulling the strap on her back Alaera made sure it was buckled on securely before quietly walking over to her sleeping mate.
Lowering her head she nosed Nitor gently, but soundly enough that he would feel it, and whispered. "Nitor. Time to get up. We have a busy day ahead of us." Oh won't he be thrilled when he finds out what today will bring. It would bring them one step closer to fulfilling another dream that they had. Aleara let out a wistful sigh at the possibilities while waiting for her mate to rouse. If he didn't get up in another moment she would resort to a less pleasant way to wake him.

[img][/img] It was way..way to early for Alaera to be waking him up, in fact he was pretty sure that it was still dark outside..and yet here she was nudging him. If he pretended to still be asleep however he was pretty sure that she would find a less then pleasant way to wake him up next..so he lifted his head and gave her a confused look. "We do? Are you sure...it still looks like night to me..." He hazarded hoping that she would agree to go back to sleep for a couple of hours. At least until the sun came up.
OF course looking at his mate he could tell that she was excited about sometihng - she even had her pack on already. Nitor sighed - there was no chance that he would get her to lay back down now without some serious work on his part and by that time he'd be so awake he wouldn't be able to go back to sleep anyways. "Alright..alright, I"m getting up" He assured her as he pulled himself to his feet "But what do we have to do?"

Alaera gave Nitor a momentarily annoyed look as he took his sweet time waking up and questioning whether they had plans or not. And then she smiled pleasantly at him. "Oh don't worry the sun will be up before you know it and we need as much time as possible to get everything done." Leaving him for a moment Alaera went and grabbed his own pouch setting it down in front of him. "You'll need this. I hope the stitching on it is as good as they said ti would be, it's going to see a lot of use today." She waited until he was up and clearly no longer half asleep or about to sneak in a few more winks before letting him in on their little secret.
"Only the most important thing possible. We're moving!" She announced proudly. "We'll have to make several trips to bring all our things," Which literally boiled down to all of her things as Nitor wasn't into trinket collecting like Alaera was. "So the sooner we get started the better chance we will be done before sun down. Oh won't it be great! I could barely sleep last night I kept thinking about it. Our new home. Just the two of us!" She paused to double check the strap on her pack, it was already full of the first load of items, in fact she had taken the time to load up Nitor's pack as well so that he could get extra sleep before waking him. Less time wasted was the key. "If you want breakfast you better start eating." Alaera half scolded him. "I want to make the first trip as soon as possible, maybe we can get there to see the rising sun dancing off the waterfall."

Nitor blinked as she plunked his satchel down in front of him - it looked like it was absolutely bulging with items. It looked heavy...what on earth was that mare planning? She couldn't possibly want to move her stash again..could she? The last time she'd been absolutely sure that some bears were stealing from her and the time before that she'd thought a fellow member of the herd had spotted one of her little hidey holes while passing by. really she was just a touch paranoid about her treasures.
But no it seemed that she actually had a good reason this time around "You want to do it then? Actually leave the herd and move to the waterfall we found?" Of course they had always planned on it but in the new land they just hadn't felt comfortable leaving the herd behind quite yet. Nitor found that he was actually a little bit excited about this adventure...regardless of the work it was going to take to move all of Alaera's things. At her suggestion about breakfast he obediently began to crop some of the nearby grass. he'd put his pack on afterwards.

Alaera smiled at her mate and gave her head a shake. "Of course I want to do it. I don't pack up my treasures and wake you up early for nothing you know. Besides, we've spent plenty of time talking about the pros and cons of moving, and let's face it a lot of the others have left the herd as fell finding their own place to call home." She took a moment to grab a mouthful of grass herself. They would be doing plenty of traveling today so they would both need to eat whenever they could. " And what better place to live then at the waterfall?" It was perfect, sheltered enough that it would be safe for them and for their family when they started one, had plenty of fresh water to drink and swim in, it had meadows nearby for grazing, trees to protect them from rain and sun, there would be no other place she could imagine leaving the herd for. "And if we don't claim it soon I fear someone else might."
That was something Alaera wasn't willing to let happen. "And we will still be close enough to the herd to come and visit friends when we want to, so it's not like we are completely leaving them." It would be important to keep in touch with the herd on a regular basis anyways. "Now come on." She said giving his shoulder a playful n**. "We have a lot of work to do so standing around talking isn't helping us out, we can walk and talk." With a flick of her tail Aleara began to walk, it would be their first trip of many today and they might not get everything moved before nightfall but she was excited to get to their new home.

Nitor thought the whole statement about not waking him up early with packs full of treasure for no reason was debatable, he vividly recalled several instances where she had awoke him and demanded he help her move her hoard from one hiding spot to another. But she'd probably just point out that that hadn't been for nothing - no matter how pointless he had thought the move to be. But he had come to terms with such idiosyncrasies from his mate a long time ago and merely shook his head and chuckled a bit. "Alright, alright"
Having eaten as much as he could in the short span of time Aleara had given him Nitor was ready to go when Alaera demanded they start out. " I suppose your right, it's far to nice of a place to pass up, I'd certainly hate for someone else to lay claim to it" The stallion agreed as he slipped on his pack and started after her. "Does this mean your going to settle down and become a nice obedient stay at home mare?" He teased her as he followed in her wake.

"I'd fight them for it if that happened." She told him firmly with a nod of her head. The chances of them successfully doing such a thing, especially if up against one of the larger breeds was pretty low, but she had that spark in her that didn't give up easily. If it was one of their own kind who claimed it she would have no problem forcing them out. No other herd member had visited the waterfall from what she could tell, she hadn't heard anything about it circulating through the herd. And while she wasn't big on gossip it was important to pay attention to the rumor mill that was a part of the herd, just in case something was said that could prove useful or interesting later. It was something she would not miss entirely. Those silly gabby mares could make up the wildest of stories some days, and while there were times when they were entertaining most of the time Alaera had simply shook her head as she listened from a distance.
Alaera looked over her shoulder giving her mate a momentary glare. "You and I both know that will never happen." She teased back tapping his shoulder lightly with the end of her tail. But in truth Alaera was looking forward to the day when she would settle down, stop all - well most - of their adventures and start a family. It wouldn't happen right away she knew, but moving to the waterfall was the first step along that path. Then she would slowly work on curbing her need for adventure and constantly collecting new treasures. She wouldn't give it up completely, saving it as something fun to do on occasion, but one day she may very well be a stay at home mare. As they walked Alaera slowed down a bit falling into step beside her mate. Her thoughts wander for a bit, wondering what they would be doing now if they were still in the old lands. Would they have broken off from the herd then or stayed with them? Glancing over at Nitor she shared her thoughts with him. "Do you think we would be doing something like this if we were still in our old home?"

Nitor had to laugh a bit at Alaera's reaction to his remark about being a stay at home mare - he was sure that when the time came she would be an excellent and caring mother..but he doubted she would ever give up exploring completely. It was just to much a part of who she was. "I don't think we'll need to fight anyone" He assured her, like her he had never seen any signs of another at the waterfall and no one in the herd had mentioned it that he had heard - and the place was so pretty that he was sure someone would have if they had found it.
"You mean go off and live on our own away from the herd? No..it would have been far to dangerous back home to do so, we would have had to raise our family within the herd and even then..I just..I don't know if I would have wanted to have a family there..." The two-leggers liked to take foals, that he could remember quite clearly, they didn't kill them all the time but they certainly took them and he didn't want to think about what might happen to those foals later on. "But we would have been together..we would have been together no matter what"

"I think you're right, that waterfall is as good as ours." She still couldn't believe it, they were finally moving there. This was such a great day even if it meant a lot of work to be done to collect and move her various treasures to their new location. The work would be worth the effort in the long run. She kept their pace quick, not wanting to miss the rising sun reflecting in the waterfall, if they kept this pace up they would certainly reach it in time, perhaps a little early so they could relax before taking in the beauty of it all. At Nitor's words Aleara swung her gaze around to look at her mate, that was pretty much what she expected.
"I knew we would be together since the moment I first saw you as a scrawny little colt." She teased him, though it was true. It may have started off as a cute little crush, it had quickly blossomed into something real, a true case of love at first sight. Though she brought her hooves to a stop suddenly. "I must admit Nitor, if we were still in the old lands, I wouldn't want to have a family." It pained her to admit such a thing, but those lands were far too dangerous and she knew she wouldn't be able to handle the grief of losing a foal to the two-leggers. "I would have if it had happened, but I know that here is a safer place to raise a family, sure there are dangers but not like we had there. Now I can finally say I truly look forward to starting a family, and today is the first step towards that." Nuzzling her mate Alaera sighed and then started walking again, she couldn't waste too much of their time but felt better getting that off of her chest.

Nitor thought this whole process would go a bit faster if Aleara didn't have quite so many treasures, I mean did she really need an entire hoard of sparkly rocks? Probably not..but she was fond of them and that meant Nitor wasn't going to actually complain about them..think about complaining maybe, but actually speak up? Never. Even if he had to lug them around all the time. He could only hope that once they got settled at the waterfall Alaera would find the place safe enough to put them one place and leave them there. Turning his attention back to Aleara as she spoke he chuckled a little bit.
"I think our parents knew that too." He stated, recalling the way his father and mother had sighed at first but then decided that Nitor could have done far worse. When she came to a sudden stop Nitor jerked to a stop of his own, jerking his head up in case she had seen some sort of danger - unlikely as it was in these lands, some reaction were too ingrained to easily stop. When she spoke however he realized that no danger was present and nuzzled her gently. "Well it's a good thing we are here then, we can have the family we only could have wished for back home and make our lives complete." He agreed with her sentiments before starting back off with her towards the waterfall.

Alaera couldn't help but laugh. "Oh they knew alright, but I think you're parents weren't as happy at first, probably thought it was just some silly crush between us that would end up breaking one of our hearts in the end." But obviously that hadn't happened since they had been together since they were barely adults and would continue to be with each other until the end. She returned Nitor's nuzzle before they continued along. They made good time on this fist trip, and as the waterfall came into view Alaera slowed down just a bit to take in the gorgeous view that was their new home. It was perfect. She had known that since the moment they stumbled upon it, but now seeing it with the early morning run dancing across the water she knew even more that it was the right place to live.
Letting out a sigh Alaera came to a stop. "Our children are going to be so lucky to grow up in a place like this. Such beauty, and plenty of things for them to do." Yes, now that they were here, or in the process of moving here at least, that this was the place to start their family. But first they had to get this day done, there was still a lot of items they needed to move and much as she wanted to stay and enjoy this moment, maybe go for a swim, there would be time for that later. They had been to the waterfall enough times that Alaera had found the perfect spot to hide all her treasures, it was hidden from view, not too difficult to get to and was big enough for all of them plus some room for new additions to the collection. Not wasting any time Alaera moved to that hidden spot, certain that Nitor would follow and began to unload her own pack. They would head out as soon as her and Nitor's bags were empty to get the next portion of her collection.

"Well you have to admit, young love doesn't always work out." Nitor pointed out with a smile "I only wish that they were still here to see our family." He added wistfully but shook his head before the sad thoughts could linger and followed her towards the waterfall. There was no point in thinking about such things, many of the older herd members had not made the trip to the new lands or had been taken by the two leggers before the trip had started.
"It's the perfect place." Nitor agreed as he looked upon the water "They'll grow up knowing the beauty of these new lands and without the worry and stress of the old." He stated before following Aleara to her new hiding spot and unloading his pack. "I think we should be able to get more of your horde transferred today if we don't dally to long, a couple of trips ought to do it." The stallion mused "And then we can finish up tomorrow with the larger items. The ones that don't fit in our packs with anything else." There weren't to many of such big items, Aleara was always loathe to leave behind several little treasures in favor of only one - unless that one was something really special. Nitor was rather glad of that however - it always felt like more was being accomplished when their trips involved a great many little items then if they were lugging only one the entire way. As silly as that was.

Alaera pushed her nose into Nitor's, she had been thinking the same thing but sadly neither of their parents were around anymore for various reasons. "Somehow I think they will know about our family and be happy for us." She had heard stories before about spirits, including those of deceased relatives that watched over their families and while they could not talk or interact with them they were there and were a part of things. She wasn't entirely sure if it was all true but it was certainly a nice thought.
She took a moment to adjust the items that Nitor had unloaded from his pack, making sure they were hidden away to her satisfaction before turning to look at him again. "They will know about the old lands, but only because we will tell them about them...once they are old enough." Though those lands were dangerous they were a part of their past and as such Alaera thought it was important to pass down that knowledge to the future generations. "I think you're right." She had been careful to pack as much as possible for this trip without risk of breaking their bags or their necks to carry them. A couple more trips today for all the small things and then tomorrow could be spent moving those few larger treasures she had. Thankfully there weren't many, though she loved them dearly they were a pain to move, especially longer distances.
The pair worked efficiently the rest of the day, Alaera would fill their packs while Nitor rested or ate between the trips, though they both stopped mid day for a rest. It was just before nightfall when they arrived at the waterfall once more and Alaera tucked away this last trips worth before settling down with Nitor for the night. Though her muscles were sore from all the traveling and lifting she was so happy to be here. With the waterfall in the background Alaera was quick to fall asleep nuzzled up against her mates side.
