CHARACTER
Name: Margaret Alice Lawrence
Nickname: Maggie, which she introduces herself as to everyone.
Age: 17
Birthday: November 17
Sign:
Scorpio
Gemstone: Garnet
Blood Type: AB-
Fav. Food: Candy that can be worn as jewelry, hot dogs with relish and mustard, hibachi of any kind, black olives stabbed on carrots like hats, hot tea with honey and milk served in china cups, food that can be shaped into other food.
Hated Food: Soda, celery, cucumber, marinara sauce, caramel popcorn, ketchup, most incarnations of tomatoes, anything that has a face when you eat it (like fish sometimes).
School: HITS
Hobbies: Acting Like an Adult – Maggie has a cellphone glued to her hands whenever possible. She listens to music that has too many curse words in it. She stuffs her bra and then looks at herself sideways in the mirror to study her handiwork. Maggie is a 14 year old who wants to be twenty-five. If an older kid she admires does something, then she will absolutely mimic it the second they are looking the other way. Around other freshman, Maggie seems like a bit of a fashion-forward, cutting edge girl. The truth? She eavesdrops on the conversations of any older teenager in earshot and then shows up at school the next day claiming to have
discovered something amazing.
Crushing On Everything That Moves – Maggie has her bedroom wallpapered with magazine cut-outs of every “it” boy in Hollywood. Robert Pattinson? You betcha. Taylor Lautner? Totally! Justin Bieber? OF COURSE. If there is a teenage male who has appeared on the cover of a tween magazine in the past year, then Maggie has seen it, cut it out, and plastered it somewhere around her room. She refers to all of them as her “boyfriends” and spends her time photoshopping herself into images with them that she posts on her Facebook. Her mother is
not pleased by this at all. Her infatuations are 100% harmless, but dear lord, they are plentiful.
Nancy Drew, Harriet the Spy, Veronica Mars -- and now... Maggie Lawrence! – Maggie fancies herself a girl detective of the highest caliber. She keeps journals based on her observations of the neighborhood and devotes a great deal of time to compiling costumes worthy of a true spy. Most of her adventures involve snooping in her relatives' houses and purses, and this is more of a silly hobby than anything serious. Just don't tell Maggie that.
Twittering – Maggie just ate a sandwich. Maggie just yawned. Maggie thinks polar bears must be sweaty in those heavy coats. If the thought has passed her mind, then she has probably tweeted it. She does this obnoxiously. Constantly.
Constantly.
Virtues:
Actively Curious -- Maggie is a wonderer. She wonders about everything, but beyond that, she has the kind of energetic determination that encourages her to chase down the answers to her burning questions. It makes her an imaginative, creative teen. She is the type to notice things that other kids her age might not, or pick up on a subtle nuance in a conversation. If she doesn't understand something, then Maggie doesn't just let it roll off her shoulders. She works and discovers all that she can as quickly as she can until her curiosity is satisfied.
Independent Leader -- With a penchant for adventuring and a burgeoning ego, Maggie naturally moves into positions of leadership whenever it is possible. She is decisive when others waffle and confident when others might be concerned. From an early age, she believed that her opinion mattered, even in a conversation with adults, and when it comes to her peers, this traits manifests tenfold. Maggie can be persuasive and charismatic for a teen. She's the kind of child who adults might say is "going places."
Resourceful -- Maggie was the kind of child who could entertain herself with a paper clip and some string. As she got older, she learned to make do with what she had and to use all of her abilities to get what she wanted. If she was failing math, Maggie would show up with a plate of cookies and ask the teacher about her day for two weeks just to butter her up for some extra credit. If she needed to get into a private party, Maggie would spend hours doctoring an invitation. When the going gets rough, Maggie gets to work pulling something out of nothing.
Flaws:
Know-It-All Bossypants -- Maggie thinks she is smart, sassy, and
so ahead of her time. This can make her a raging baby egomaniac with a tendency to give orders and expect them to be followed without resistance. Maggie's mouth gets away from her sometimes, and when she digs a hole, her instinct is to
just keep digging. She would dig her way to China before admitting she was wrong about something. When pushed to admit her own failures, Maggie tends to get emotional and whiney. She loves being the well-liked leader, but when her pushy ways bite her in the a**, her kneejerk is to go bury her face in her pillow and ask her mother in huffy, teary breaths, "Why - huff huff - don't - huff huff - they - huff huff - like - huff huff -
me?"
Too Independent -- At the end of the day, Maggie is a fourteen-year-old. She just likes to forget this, and it leads to her own folly. Maggie will mouth off to adults if she thinks she is correct, which is a constant source of trouble for her. She will lie if she thinks it will help her out of a situation. She will pretend to be older than she is and is constantly pressing the authority of her parents and teachers. No doubt many people find her mouthy, meddling, and annoying -- not the best traits for a little girl to have. Maggie will claim that she is "mature for her age" and "smarter than the average teen," but in truth, she is disrespectful and insubordinate. A lesson in manners has been overdue for quite some time.
Infallible -- Like a lot of kids, Maggie does not think of herself as the kind of person who will have bad things happen to her. Plane crashes happen to other people. Broken bones happen to other people too. She is headstrong in her belief that bad things won't happen to
her, not ever, and this leads her to do stupid, reckless things with little thought of the consequences. Her curiosity is too strong for her to resist, whether that means reading her best friend's diary and losing the friend over it or hiding in the trunk of her creepy neighbor's car to figure out where he goes at 11PM every night.
