"Awh, you're being ridiculous!" Tinder's voice boomed louder than he meant as both frustration and amusement started in with his brother's latest winning-obsession. "How the blazes would you know, anyway?"

"It's mine, I swear it is! I know that spot was dry before, and you were first, so I won! Clearly, I am the splash champion." Tynol was at the edge of the lake now, and stomped a hoof in the shore water to emphasize his words. And to egg Tinder.

"Tynol, we practically jumped in together." Tinder been next to Tynol, and kicked water back at him as he moved out of the pond.

"You're just jealous!" Bigger stomp. C'mon--Tynol would manage to annoy Tinder further, right?

Tinder snorted. "Ridiculous. Childish." He wasn't going to get pulled into this.

"See, you won't even stay. It's so obvious."

Was. Not. Getting. Pulled. In. Tinder turned to glare. "I'm only sparing your feelings."

"You're probably afraid I'd get you completely wet. Don't wanna drown again?"

That was just mean. Tinder tossed his head. "I jumped higher to get in, and jumped into higher water. And I splashed much higher. If you went further, it was because you landed crooked."

Tynol smirked, and Tinder snorted. Tynol had won. He'd pulled Tinder right in. "Yeah, right. I wanna see."

"You'll judge poorly. You always do!"

"Then she can judge!" Tynol had spotted the black unicorn behind his brother, and was quite triumphant in announcing her presence. If she agreed, he won double!

"Who?" Tinder spun around, regretting all the more that he'd allowed Tynol to pull him into such a foolish, childish argument. "Ah."

"You'll judge for us?"

"Noooo kidding." Tinder agreed readily, and shook his head at the other unicorn as she wandered in and out of the lake to circle around them. Weird.

"Who can make the best splash." Tynol spoke eagerly. "I'm sure I'm the best one around. Will you watch us and see?" He came out of the pond now, more than eager to have a second judge.

"Yeah, all right! Let's go, Tinder!" Perhaps was obviously a good enough answer for Tynol, and he was already spinning around to run back to the other side of the bond, to the highest point of the bank, a small cliff over the bond with a sturdy fallen tree to give an added boost.


Tinder considered Selene for a moment, then offered a small smile. "Little brothers. Can't do anything with them. Thanks for playing along." He remained there for her answer.

"Come on, Sparkie! Scared the water will put your lights out?"

"Going to watch you get cleaned up, Dustball!"

"You didn't back up far enough, prepared to get soaked!" Tynol ran forward, jumped up on the tree trunk, and straight into the pond.

SPAAA--AALLLAAAA-AAASSHHH!

"None?" Now that was a thought! But Tinder didn't actually have time to consider Selene's words before Tynol was shouting, and the first shout, he was already trotting upwards to the same bank. "MOVE!"

The warning was clearly directed to Tynol, who more than understood. Tinder wasn't going to wait. Tynol fled off to side.

SPAAA--AALLLAAAA-AAASSHHH!

Tynol hadn't need to move. Tinder's earlier observation had been right. Tynol had jumped lightly, with a good distance. Tinder sprang upwards, jumped higher, but landed further back. There was little danger of his jumping on his brother.

"Yaahhh-Yeaaahhh! So who's better, Mom---Uh...What'syourname?" Tynol ducked under water to hide his name mix-up, and the sound of Tinder's booming laughter.

Selene couldn't have possibly come up with a more unacceptable answer.

"Tie!?! No way! I was clearly better than Tinder! See? See that mark! That one was mine!"

"Tied because you don't know us?" Maybe his heart hadn't actually been in the competition before, Selene's comment finally got the best of his attention. "This is a way to judge? Awh, c'mon Tynol, how would you know? Your eyes were full of water!"


"Some good watch you were! I thought you were going to watch and see! You could have waited for me, and then we would both know!"

"If pure knowledge of the other individual is criteria for judging, then clearly---"

"I WON!"

The shout was simultaneous, brought on by splashings toward one another. It was Tinder who turned on Selene first. "Come join us!" And then all splash-concentration was put into trying to get the mare involved in the splash-fight.

The boys stopped in their splashing, just to stare. What was she going on about?

"Listening to our hearts? Acceptance?" Tinder muttered. Even beating each other sounded weird, the way she said it. "Obsessive competition?"

"Geeeeesssh, lighten up! It's a splashing contest. A way to have fun. You know that? Or do prefer sitting in the meadow, blowing dandelion seeds to help the flowers spread?"

Tinder snorted. While splashing, he had been moving steadily to the shore, and now that Tynol wasn't blocking him, he easily found his way out of the water. "You have us very wrong, Miss. And we had you wrong, we didn't know we were displeasing you."

Tynol was happy to stay where he was. And to rant. "Seriously? A little splashing is destroying our lives? It's worth a lecture from a stranger? Seriously?"

"Yeah, okay." Tynol grumbled.

There was several seconds pause in conversation, as Tynol wandered around in the water and Tinder quietly considered the strange mare, her weird assumptions, and the even odder fact that she chose to stay there.

But Tynol was clearly not one to let a matter go, or keep silence too long. "So, THIS time Tinder, you WATCH me, and then I'll watch you!"

"You'll cheat. You always do."

Tynol wasn't listening, he was out of the water and rounding for his third jump. So Tinder complied, he stepped back to the spot Tynol kept insisting he was hitting, and also measured upwards with his eye. They'd judge both ways, of course.

While Tynol went forward, Tinder cast a look over to Selene. "We aren't keeping you from getting a drink or anything, are we?"

"Get soaked!"
