Twilight’s dying sun cast a golden glow across the leaves. The rich green darkened away from the brush of light and softened under its touch to add two tones of color to each and every leaf, and the western side of each tree cast with a faint tinge of gold. A few stars could be seen, daring to twinkle even before the sun had fully gone from the sky, and the colors of the sunset were faint and warm against the dark blanket of the coming night. In the time between day and night the forest was wrapped in a contented hush. The daylight inhabitants were settling down to go to sleep, while those who preferred the night were only just waking to begin their nocturnal activities. In this moment, and perhaps this moment alone, it was peaceful.
Korev could almost appreciate the fragile moment. Almost. But what was really so special about it? Day turned to night every day, literally. He had seen hundreds of days and hundreds of nights and what, really, did dusk matter? Sunsets were pretty. Sure. The stars were shiny. Yep. The quiet was nice, but it wasn’t going to last long in a place like this that was sure to have plenty of little inhabitants, or on occasion not so little ones, whether it was day or night. If he wanted peace and quiet aplenty, he would have gone somewhere else. At the very least the soft hum of insects was no nuisance here, it was just a tiny fragment of background noise.
His wings were folded, tucked snuggly along his flanks to prevent the feathers from being caught or torn on any spindly branches or thorns. Flight was convenient, but only prior to nightfall. He could see well enough by star and moonlight, but there were trees in the way here. If he wanted to find a place to sleep, trying to land in a dark forest was just not an intelligent thing to do. Better to return to the ground while it was still light enough to see and continue on foot until he was ready to stop for the night. He would do that soon enough, probably. It was better to be well rested than to wear himself out, even if he did not feel particularly tired.
If he passed by a suitable shelter he should probably take it. But as things stood, with the setting sun still casting plenty of light to see by, Korev had no intentions of calling it a night. Just because he had no true destination in mind did not mean he was going to laze around all day and night. What a spectacular waste of time doing that would be. No. For the moment there was more ground to be covered. So he was going to cover it.

Though this dusk wasn't any different from any other dusk, there was something about this certain time of the day that made it the best time to either mull things over or reflect over one's life. It was because of this particular event, that the large Angeni stallion would stray from his duties for. No matter where he would be, he would travel far and wide to return to where the cherry trees grew and always at this time. Although they were bare at this season, the trees still held a special place in the heart of Byakuya Kuchiki. Slate gray eyes glanced up to the empty branches, almost as if imagining that the small, pink blossoms were really there. But there was more behind them, a deep emptiness of some kind.
He continued to glance up to the bare branches for some time before moving his gaze to the skies. He watched as stars started to peek into the transitioning colors above him. This solitude was all he really needed, what he truly wanted. All the stallion wanted to do was just reflect on things of his past. Mainly of his late, departed mate and the events that had caused him to lose her. A small frown touched his lips briefly at the thought, but it soon returned to his normal, stern expression. As he stood, his large dual wings drooped. It was not like he was going to be using them any time soon anyways. Finally, he took in a breath and sighed as his eyes closed and he began to process his many thoughts.

Ah. There was someone on the path ahead. Korev paused, frowning in the fading light at the stranger up ahead. To be fair, what Korev was walking along was not actually a marked-out trail so much as a convenient route through the trees. For a moment, just one tiny moment, the stallion considering altering his route so that he would avoid the stranger who just stood and stared at the sky. Stars or dead branches, a glance could not determine anything else the large stallion might be looking at.
But then the idea that he should move out of someone’s way sank in, and Korev snorted. What, was he some timid little filly? Why should he walk around, especially into less clear spots of the forest, just because someone else had determined that his route was the best place to stand and gawk dully into space? Should he stand aside because the stranger was larger than he? No. Should he move just because the stranger had more wings than he? Nope. There was no reason to move. The stranger could not even really claim to having been there ‘first’, because it was a path through the forest and for all either of them knew it was Korev who had been on it first.
Flicking his small tail, and maybe straightening up a hair, the young hybrid stallion continued on his way. He would not actually crash into the other stallion, that would just be foolish. But he was not going to go out of his way to avoid him either. If the other stallion did not like strangers walking near him, then he should move out of Korev’s way.

Byakuya continued to look up into the branches, letting out a small sigh. Upon hearing something behind him, though he did not move, his ears swiveled back toward the source. His gray eyes looked behind him to take note of the other stallion making his way toward him on the path. He just snorted and returned his gaze to the trees.
If the destination of this other soquili was so important, he can go around, if not, then he could just wait. The Angeni wasn't going to go out his way of doing his customs just because another stallion decided to go this particular way. If this stranger wanted to bump into him, then he was foolish.

Korev did not miss that the stallion had noticed him, the black ears had swiveled towards him and then eyes too. But he did nothing else to react. He just stood there. Gawping at the sky. What was he doing anyway? Korev glanced up, wondering if some small creature the other looked after might have gotten stuck in the tree or something. It wouldn't speak well of his intelligence, due to the wings being an obvious solution for a treed friend, but at least it would explain what was going on. Except there wasn't anything there.
It was getting close to the point where he would have to stop or walk around. It would have been simple enough to step aside. But... but it rubbed him wrong. Why should he move? Why couldn't the other stallion be the one to move? Maybe it shouldn't have mattered, but it did. Korev was not going to step aside, and certainly not for a full-grown adult who obviously did not care about standing in his way. Korev had already stood aside, in a manner of speaking. He had done it once, in a very large, very difficult way. He'd moved aside, he'd gone away, he'd left home so that he wouldn't be a bother, a reminder, an inconvenience. It had been a big step to take, and he'd only done it for his mother. He would not move aside on anything, not even just this small thing, for a stranger. Especially a stranger who seemed to think himself entitled to others moving out of his way, or going around considering Korev wasn't actually in his way. No, the stranger was in his way.
“You do realize this is a path you're standing on,” Korev pointed out scathingly when he had perhaps another six steps before one of them would have to move aside.

"Among which, are many other paths that you can take that will still allow you to reach your destination." Byakuya replied, this time without even looking to the other stallion. Either the other could wait until he finished, of if it was that important, he could go around. If he could move the trees, he would, but since this is the only area in particular that seemed to home cherry trees, this will be the only place he would go to go through this routine of his.FallenThroughMidnight Sorry it's so short, my muse was being really fickle as I was getting to the end of my list of RPs to reply to

[X]Natty-Chan[X] Don't worry about fickle muses, I know the feeling quite well x.x Korev glared at the stranger, then looked around himself. The trees and undergrowth were not impossible to move through, no, but this was obviously the path. It was the only place so worn down from walking, and while it might be narrow and only a little bit less leafy it was still the path. So while yes, yes indeed, Korev and anyone else could walk around this stranger, the fact remained that he was the one who had decided to stop and stare at some trees while standing on the path. He was blocking the path, and therefore he should move. Korev was using the small trail for its intended purposes, which were obviously moving through the forest. A path was there to be walked along, not stood on and blocked while others had places to go.
"The existence of other paths and trails in the world still doesn't give you the right to block this one," Korev snapped. Sure, no one else was here to be inconvenienced and, yes, it was taking him longer to argue with this stallion than it would have to simply go around. But the destination was not the point. The point was that this stranger was the one who ought to step aside. So Korev would not.

"I have every right to do whatever I wish, whenever I see fit and I will not let the likes of you tell me otherwise." The large stallion replied, finally peeling his eyes from the trees to turn and face the stallion that was currently pestering him. He eyed the stallion briefly. A snort escaped his nostrils as the thought of the stallion reminding him of a substitute soul reaper. He couldn't help but think of the orange haired stallion and his stubborn nature, yes... it often time helped him win his situation, but since this isn't the stallion and this isn't the right situation... being stubborn was just stupid.
