Zinnia was humming to herself as she walked along, a small smile unconsciously lighting up her features. It really was a nice day; the sun was high overhead, the clouds were white and fluffy, and a light breeze kept the day cool. What better day for a walk through the woods?
Of course, the fact that Zinnia was only out in the wild because she was on the run from Team Rocket dampened the sentiment, but really, things could've been much worse. Zinnia, ever optimistic, was choosing to look on the bright side. It was sort of like vacation, being out in the wild with her pokemon...
Zyk was on Zinnia's shoulder as usual, and Shadow Mew was floating some ways behind, but still close at hand in case a grunt showed up. Annoyingly, however, Dreydonna was missing. The ghost had grown a habit to vanish during the day, lately. But just because they hadn't seen any trouble for the past few days didn't mean that they were out in the clear yet! It was awful that Dreydonna would stop protecting Zinnia, just for the ghost's own pleasures! It made Zyk want to bite her, but unfortunately, he was no match for the gengar.
Still, if Dreydonna wouldn't stick around, at least she had her trusty zubat! Zyk and Zin had been together since the beginning; he was confident that nothing could shake their bond.

A purrloin trailed behind the strange trio, keeping hidden in the tall grass. He had heard a lot about human trainers and their pokemon from his friends, but he had never met any for himself. He was curious to know whether trained pokemon really were stronger than wild pokemon.
He didn't think that these guys were so tough; just a little girl, a tiny bat, and a cat his own size. Admittedly, the fact that the mew could fly was a cause for worry, but pidgeys and butterfrees could fly as well, and everyone knew how weak they were.
He continued to follow, hoping that his observations would lead him to a decisive conclusion. Captured pokemon couldn't possibly be stronger than their wild counterparts, could they?

<....> Shadow had the feeling that they were being watched, but the presence didn't seem particularly malicious... but not totally innocent, either. She couldn't tell if it was a Rocket or just an innocent wild pokemon, so she decided not to say anything about it to the others yet. There was a good chance that whoever it was was merely curious, and did not mean them any harm. It would do no good to raise the alarm without reason. She kept tabs on it, however, and was alert for the smallest sign of danger.
Zinnia continued to walk and hum to herself, admiring the scenery and petting Zyk, who swayed happily on her shoulder. The zubat seemed to be getting sleepy; once again she felt a small twinge of guilt. All of her pokemon preferred to be active at night, so they were all suffering some amount of fatigue on her account.

The wild pokemon stole closer, and noted that the mew appeared to be female. He had to give a little snicker at that; a hot babe and a flying chew toy could never defeat him, even if they did belong to a human. Heck, even if they both attacked him at the same time, he'd be able to beat them without breaking a sweat!
Zyk's large ears twitched, and he whirled around, leaping off of Zinnia's shoulder and into the air. "(Did you hear it?)" he asked Shadow Mew. "(There's someone following us!)"
If the stranger had gotten bold enough to be sensed by the zubat, then it was high time for them to show themselves. Without hesitation, Shadow Mew sent a Psychic attack flying straight toward the purrloin.

"LOIN!" the wild purrloin yowled in a combination of pain, but mostly fear. He had not expected that at all! How had that mew found him out? He jumped out of the tall grass to face his opponent, his fur standing on end.
"Oh, how cute!" Zinnia exclaimed at the sight of the wild pokemon. She was apparently oblivious to its aggressive posture; it was about to attack. She bent down and stretched out a hand, trying to tempt the cat to come closer so that she could pet it.
The purrloin, seeing that in that posture, Zinnia could do nothing to defend herself from his claws, lunged in a savage desire to attack.

The purrloin froze in midair. In a frenzy, he tried to run, but his paws futilely churned air. A faint purple glow around his body betrayed that Shadow was using another Psychic attack on him, this time using her telekinesis to hold him still.
Shadow warned ominously, and allowed the wild pokemon to drop.
The purrloin landed harmlessly on his feet, but he was scared stiff of the mew. He would have to reevaluate the situation, but before he could react, the zubat had begun his attack. The wild feline tried to bat Zyk away, but the little zubat was persistent. Zyk was not as lenient as Shadow Mew when it came to threats on Zinnia's safety. Finally harassed beyond his limit, the purrloin made his escape.
"Aww..." Zinnia said in disappointment. He pet Zyk as he returned to her shoulder. "Oh well. I had hoped that we could be friends... Well, let's keep moving."
The purrloin, however, did not run far. He was just as fascinated as we was afraid and, in the manner of cats, could not let the matter rest. He followed stealthily, though he was fairly certain that the mew could still sense him.

As evening gave way to night, the group finally halted. With one of her pokemon's help, Zinnia started a fire and began heating up food for herself and her pokemon. The smell wafted over to the purrloin and his mouth watered. He crept closer to the group, keeping his belly low to the ground in an effort to go unseen. "(Do you see that?)" Dreydonna the gengar said to the rest of the team. She pointed toward the rustling bush. Shadow replied simply.
"(What?!)" Zyk squeaked. He puffed his little chest out and half-spread his wings. "(I'll chase him off again.)"
"What are you all talking about?" Zinnia asked, a bit alarmed by Zyk's suddenly aggressive pose. "There's enough food for everyone..." Shadow Mew explained the situation and Zinnia's expression cleared. "Oh," she said in relief. "Well, he's probably just hungry. Here!" She tossed a bit of pokemon food out toward the bush.
The wild purrloin cautiously poked his head out from behind the cover and snatched the piece as it rolled toward him through the tall grass. He ate it greedily.
"Why don't you come out and say hello?" Zinnia called. "We won't hurt you."
Curiosity overcame caution, and the purrloin wandered toward the group. He knew that he was outnumbered and that the mew alone could easily defeat him, but the delicious food had won him over. Still, his sharp eyes darted from one pokemon to the next, and his tail lashed nervously.
Zinnia rolled another piece of food to the cat. "What's your name, little purrloin?" she asked. The wild pokemon merely blinked at her before eating. "You don't have a name?" she asked, a bit surprised. "Then can I give you one? How about... Zebo?"
Zebo mewled an affirmative, and Zinnia grinned. "Hi, my name is Zin, and that's Zyk, and there's Shadow Mew, and that's Dreydonna. We're a team and right now we're trying to run away from Team Rocket," she explained amiably. "Hey, Zebo, do you wanna join us?" she asked without warning. She ignored the rest of her team, who made various exclamations of surprise at her offer.
Zebo's eyes grew a bit wider. "(Would I get stronger? As strong as you?)" he said, his eyes on the mysterious mew.
Shadow gave a rare smile, <... and perhaps, one day, you will be as strong as I.>
"(I'll do it!)" Zebo agreed at once. He had been watching this team all day, and the love and trust between them all was apparent. And he had experienced that strength first hand; he wanted to be able to defend himself as well as that. Plus, they had food, and he wouldn't mind getting to know Shadow Mew a bit more personally... All of this aided his swift decision.
Once Zinnia understood what was going on, she grinned. She rummaged in her pockets until she withdrew a small pokeball; the pressed the button in the middle once, which enlarged it, and offered it to Zebo. He touched it with his nose and was sucked inside in a burst of red light.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, then nothing. Zinnia immediately pushed the center button again, and the pokeball opened up to let Zebo out once more. "Welcome to the team!" she said happily.
