“So you've reverted back far enough to be playing with dolls again?”
From the middle of her bedroom floor, Belladonna stared at the kit before her, all the contents strewn across the floor, and the small Real Fake Human doll in her hand. Just before Binx had hopped onto the window ledge and squeezed his way through its panes, she had been in the middle of walking it down an imaginary street, mimicking the voice of a very angry human. Caught in the act of play, she only stared up at her cat for a moment before she slowly straightened her shoulders and set the doll down.
”Its for research.”
Real smooth.
“Ah, but of course.” Binx replied nonchalantly, before he hopped down to the floor and padded over to his witch. “But truly, whatever are you doing? What is all this?” With a flick of his tail, Binx raised up on his hind quarters to place his front paws on the box.
”Its a DETH Scouts Starter Kit. I found it downstairs in the main hall. There were a bunch stacked together in a corner.” Why, Belladonna was nearly beaming at her find.
“And you just grabbed one? Never pausing to consider that perhaps it belonged to a function, rather than for whoever happened upon one?”
Oh.
”I hadn't thought of that...” She replied, her beam a bit more subdued. But she quickly perked up and waved a hand at Binx, who only flattened his ears momentarily before he pawed softly at something within the box. ”Its no matter, its mine now. I opened it.”
“Well, what's the DETH Scouts?”
”Its an organization centered around promoting peace towards Humans.” The witch began in an informative, if slightly passionless, voice, her fingers flipping idly through the sketchbook she had extracted from the box. ”They teach Halloweeners about being peaceful and more considerate toward Humans. Because Humans make us what we are, we have to take care of them. We can't scare them to death all the time. At least, that's what DETH thinks.” The sketchbook wasn't anything special, it was honestly a little boring. The cover didn't even have a cute picture on the front, only a picture of a sketchbook, which seemed extremely redundant. The last object from the box had been batted around by Binx (who now had perched precariously on the edge of the box, his kitty butt all wiggly in the air) who's attention could be best described as 'meh'.
For a moment Belladonna was angry at his completely disregard for her little speech, but she only leaned forward, took out the small packet of Human food from within and watched Binx flop happily into the box. When she sat back on the floor, cross-legged and half-smiling, all she could see of him was his too-long tail that stuck up over the top.
“Do you really subscribe to all those thoughts?” Binx asked from within the box, his voice slightly muffled by the cardboard. He had been listening, that sneaky snake!
To this, Belladonna only shrugged as she pulled the small Real Fake Human doll back into her lap.

Humans proposed a conflicting relationship for Belladonna. On one hand, they were the reason she was alive today. Without some strange human's fear of witches, of their potential to cast spells and be at once rather pretty and totally deadly, she wouldn't even know she wasn't alive. So, in that regard she appreciated them.
But on the other hand, jackdamn were they a whiny lot. Always angry, always crying about the newest scary thing. Easily impressionable, easily manipulated and altogether too easy to frighten, it was hard to take them seriously. Just the tiniest seed of doubt created a tidal wave of new thinking, so there was really almost no worry about never having enough FEAR.
More than all of that, though, was the fact that DETH promoted peace. Given everything that had happened lately, a bit of peace sounded just right. Even if it was just for a little while, a week, a day, maybe even a few hours. Belladonna wanted that. She needed that. Just a place where for a few minutes, Hunters weren't breathing down their necks. For just a moment, she wanted to believe that the Four Clans really and truly did have their best interests at heart. And for just a second, Belladonna really wanted things to be normal.
And not normal with the adage that they would eventually re-descend back into chaos, or Hecate forbid Insanity, but actual, legitimate normalcy. Normalcy that involved a school club. Or whatever this was.

Finally, Belladonna settled on a nondescript, ”I don't know.”
As Binx seemed rather disinclined to respond to that, the witch set about looking over the little book included. Hhmm, tasks eh?
After a few minutes of reading them all over and deliberating a bit, she picked one out, a devious grin splashed across her face.
A hand held the Real Fake Human doll over the edge of the box, and Belladonna called out in a sing-song voice, ”Lookit Binx! A new toy!” She wiggled it enticingly, then tossed it toward the opposite side of her room.
Wide yellow eyes popped over the top of the box, located the fallen doll and then a black blur jumped from the box and onto the doll. A laugh burst from the witch as Binx tossed the thing into the air, rolled onto his back and caught it between his front paws, kicking it with his back ones. More giggles escaped Belladonna and she tried not to laugh too hard, but it was just so funny to watch Binx gnaw and claw at the doll.
But she couldn't let this go on too long, or else her task would be stitching it back up rather than pretending it was just hurt.

”Oh noooo!” Belladonna cried out as dramatically as possible, on her feet a moment later. Quick steps brought her to the doll, which she managed to snatch from Binx without getting a claw stuck on her flesh. ”Don't worry Human, Nurse Belladonna will save you!”
“Nurse?” Binx echoed angrily, his tail flicking wildly in dismay that his toy had been stolen. The witch flapped a hand at him, promising him that he could play with it all he wanted when she was finished with this.
”Yes!” She hissed a little too vehemently, a free hand pressed to her forehead. ”Oh noooo! Its bleeding sooo much! This ribbon should help!” Quickly, she threw the doll down onto the floor and snatched up a ribbon. She followed it to the floor, mumbling a small ”I'll be jackdamned if I rip this skirt for this stupid doll.”
Alright, what was next? Pink eyes snuck over to the open book, read the next line and then held the doll up to eye level. Using only two fingers (to be light!), Belladonna tapped the doll, her face screwed up in concentration. She gave it an extra shake, then consulted the book again.
”Binx, Binx come here and pretend to be the human I call for help.” Belladonna shouted as she lunged forward and snatched up her cat before he could dart off. Binx spewed and hissed and tried to claw her, but it was a half-executed thing so he failed miserably and was finally content to sit in her lap.
”911! Help! This human is in trouble!” She called out in faux-anguish, her blank skellyphone held up to her ear. Binx snorted but rolled his eyes and sighed.
“What's the problem, fellow human?”
”I don't know! It just started spewing blood from its eyes and it has a concussion (I might have caused that, actually) and now its all passed out and stuff. Also, my cat tried to kill it.”
“That sounds seri--” ”ALSO ITS ON FIRE.” “--ous”.
Binx sighed audibly, and flicked his tail.
“OK. We'll send a FEAR healer your way--”
”I don't really think Humans have FEAR healers...” Belladonna mused, dancing the little doll across the floor before them now that their task was complete.
“Well that's just silly.”

Grateful for his help, Belladonna pulled Binx up into a hug and bestowed a kiss on his forehead, then set him on the floor. The doll found its way back into her hands and she pushed at its head idly.
Did she really want to be part of this? Did she really want to protect Humans like this? Their lives seemed silly, but maybe that was just her perspective of things. To her, Humans were weird and fleeting creatures.
And maybe that was how Hunters felt about Halloweentown. Silly, inconsequential things that only existed to prey. And that was all wrong.
In the end, Belladonna wasn't convinced either way. So she smiled to herself and tossed the doll across the room, laughing brightly as Binx leapt from her lap and onto the human in a very ferocious kitty pounce.
