Jett could have understood if Raven wanted to ignore him for an hour. Maybe a few hours. But not a day—and definitely not two days. He had texted her. Called her. Tried to be concerned without being creepy. He wanted to give her whatever space she’d needed—but after two days, he was a bundle of frustration.
Jett did not like to be ignored by anyone—especially someone important.
If it had been anyone but Raven, he probably could have brushed it off, but it just felt empty without her nagging texts or the dumb pictures of her dog she seemed so fond of sending him. He’d thought that some time would allow her to cool off and he’d be dealing with her text messages again. He thought she’d realize that she was overreacting and accept that he had no interest in Ophelia. He hadn’t expected an apology, but neither had he been expecting this.
And he really didn’t want to let it go on for any longer.
So, it had seemed like a completely rational decision to mirrorwalk into her room the next night, power down, and demand, “You can’t ignore me forever, we need to talk.”

Raven had been in bed. She had been almost asleep, and she had been quite successful in avoiding Jett’s calls and texts and every other attempt he made at contacting her. What right did he even have anyway, the jerk.
So, her surprise, and moreover her anger to find the blonde haired a*****e in her room, uninvited, and unwanted, was rather large.
She sat up, glaring at him. “The ******** do you want. Don’t you have your little lost Ophelia to go cuddle with? Get out. I don’t want to see you. I thought you would have understood that by me ignoring you.” She pulled the blanket on her bed up a little more. He didn’t deserve to see her in her pajamas, and for once, she didn’t want him to.
Really. How dare he just waltz in here and expect her to talk to him. Did he think by talking to her he’d be able to make everything right? What a…what a jerk.

Jett’s eyes narrowed at her words. He took offense, though the last thing he wanted to do was snap at Raven. He crossed his arms over his chest to make sure he didn’t provide her with any inflammatory, hostile gestures.
“Where do you come up with these things, Raven? I mean—really. This situation is not what you’ve been making it out to be. Did you just decide that any girl I talk to or do something nice for, I must be cheating on you with? If I had something going on with Ophelia, why would I have told you? Did you think of that? Why would I have been totally honest with you? –And you—instead of rewarding, or even just accepting my honesty—you accuse me of wanting something more with this girl I just met? Raven, you are being completely unreasonable, and I don’t care if you don’t want to see me because I’ve been patient, and now I’m just fed up and refuse to let you believe some ridiculous delusion for any longer than you’ve already fed into it, do you understand? All I want to do is talk, okay?”

“I mean it. Really. Get out. I don’t want to talk to you, I don’t want to see you, Honestly, I don’t even want to know you anymore. Just leave me alone.”
She didn’t care. She didn’t care if it was a misunderstanding. She just wanted to be angry, she wanted to be angry and unreasonable. Because that just made her feel better about it all.
“I want you out of here, Jett. So go.” Raven looked back up at him and glared, really trying to show him just how much she wanted him to go. There was no point in even trying to have a conversation. She didn’t want to fix anything, she honestly wasn’t sure that anything could be fixed.

Jett’s eyes narrowed a bit. Raven was frustrating him. This should have been a simple fix—a quick conversation—but she didn’t even want to give him that? She wanted to shoo him away—to dismiss him like he was nothing?
That wasn’t going to fly with him.
“No,” he replied simply. “I’ve let you stew for this long. I’m not leaving until you tell me what the issue is. And it had better not be that you think I’m cheating on you because—Raven.”
He spoke with purpose and direction, though was not innately hostile. He was angry. Jett did not like to lose anything—and Raven had this unique way of worming into his heart. And he kind of liked it.
He didn’t want to lose her.
So, he’d fight. With her, if need be.
Softer, he spoke her name. “Raven.”
There was a pause, as though he was collecting his thoughts—refraining from saying anything he’d regret. He drew in a breath that might have been intended to calm himself, and then spoke again. “What is the issue here?”

The blonde looked away for a moment, closing her eyes and clenching her fists. Finally she looked back. “The issue here? Which issue would you like me to address first? The issue that you’re just inviting some random strange girl to live with you? That you didn’t even ask before you extended the invitation? That she was rubbing it in my face that she wasn’t going to leave?”
She drew in a breath and shook her head. “I just. You’ve never invited me to move in with you, and that was fine. I know it’s your mom’s house and all that, and she might not be comfortable with the situation, but why the ******** would you invite some stranger to live with you instead? Am I not good enough anymore?”
She was looking everywhere but at Jett. She didn’t want him to really think she was just some whiny clingy girlfriend, but…this was a big problem.
“And then you, with your stupid, stupid a** smirks, you don’t give a damn if you hurt me, and now you’re not going to even try to make this better by leaving me alone.“

Jett had biting remarks prepared should Raven lash out again, though he was a bit taken aback by her honesty. He had expected insults, things thrown at him, her yelling for him to get out. But she was talking to him—and that was already better than he’d expected.
“I wasn’t going to leave you alone. I didn’t want you to think I didn’t care.”
Caring. Which was an issue Jett had expressed difficulty in showing in the past. He thought it would have been uncaring to leave Raven alone, knowing she was upset.
But he knew that wasn’t going to be enough. He chewed on the inside of his lips, not hard enough to draw blood, but hard enough to sting a bit.
Apologies were not his strong suit. In fact, even uttering the two little words required of one made his stomach flop. Jett did not like to be wrong. He did not even like to hint that he had made a mistake.
But there were some things he could do for Raven that he wouldn’t do for anyone else. And he did it sincerely.
“…I’m sorry.”

She shook her head. “Well. That’s a first, I think.” Raven sighed, flopping back against the pillows of her bed. “I’m still not happy though. Sorry. How long is she going to be living with you? I don’t like her. She’s dumb.”
Raven rubbed her forehead and sighed heavily. “I don’t think I’m going to be happy until she is gone, you know. And if she’s there for too long, I don’t know what I’ll end up doing.” As hard as it might have been for Jett to apologize, it was hard for Raven not to shout and stamp her feet. She just wanted things to be fixed now, and took it very personally when things didn’t go her way.
“I really can’t understand why you did such a stupid thing like that, Jett. I really…feel like you don’t…think sometimes. You do have a girlfriend you know. And it really…hurts when you do stupid things like this. And I hate it.”

“I wasn’t thinking about her like that. I wasn’t thinking of her as some girl I was inviting back to my place. She was a teammate. That I didn’t want to abandon in the middle of a storm,” Jett sighed. He seemed a little more relaxed, though still—despite his confidence—didn’t want to press his luck with Raven. She’d commented on his smirk and that was something he had a hard time controlling. His pride would always be a downfall, so it was very hard to suck it up and act humble.
“She’s only staying until she gets settled. And she’s already looking for a job so she can save up and move out. I think Quinn is going to help her establish a new identity. She’s as eager to get back on her feet as you are to get her out, trust me.”
There was something nagging in his mind, though; he understood Raven being upset, but she seemed to have this idea of him in her mind—and he didn’t like it.
“…Raven, do you really think I’d cheat on you?”

Raven sighed. She was a teammate, but that still…wasn’t any excuse. “How would you have felt if it had been a super attractive guy and I invited him into my house until he got back on his feet, and you talked to him and he was a complete jerk and brushed you off.”
She shook her head. “Of course I think you’d cheat on me. If you found someone better, I know you would. You flirt with everyone anyway. Isn’t that just your MO? Flirt with everything that has boobs, and some things that don’t? What about Minty, you were full on making out with her.”
She was growing angry again and closed her eyes, trying to calm herself back down, but finding it more difficult than it had been before.

And Raven was still bitter about Harmony. Which he thought he’d made very clear that it had been a one time thing and he had not known Raven had laid claim to him at that point in time or else he never would have done so.
“I get it from my father,” he said after a long moment, though shrugged it off. “I’d trust you, you know. I’d be annoyed, but I’d trust you. Probably come over to your place a lot, be a little extra sweet on you. Take you out to dinner, give you gifts. Tell you how beautiful you were and how much I loved you. Try to one up him at every instance. Maybe offer to take him out and look for jobs to get him away from you and get him out of the place.”
Or he’d try to kill the guy in his sleep, but that was another story entirely.
“…And then if I caught you cheating on me, I’d leave. But until I caught you in the act, I’d trust you. Because you make me want to believe in you. You make me want to be with you. And I wouldn’t throw you away for the biggest chested girl in the world.”

“You get it from your father? What do you get from your father? And don’t you think I’m going to start lavishing you with gifts. Honestly, you should totally be bringing me some nice things for me to forgive you.” She moved over a little, making some room in her bed, nodding at it, trying to communicate that she wanted Jett to sit down.
“I want jewelry. Okay. I saw this really pretty necklace, and I think you should buy it for me. Like, tomorrow. And I want you to stay over tonight.” She gave a little smile and nodded, trying to think of some girl with huge boobs, and Jett rejecting her. Yeah, it made her laugh a bit. Maybe more than a bit.
“Then…I’ll try and hold my tongue until I actually catch you making out with her, or something…”
She wanted to hear more about his father though. He never mentioned anything about the man before, and to be honest, Raven had all but forgotten that Jett even had a father. But, everyone did. His was just absent. Very absent.

There we go, that was more like it. Jett couldn’t help but allow a small smile to twitch onto his face. He could do jewelry. Even if it meant Raven was going to empty out his pockets again. Taking her hint, he moved to sit near her on her bed. He didn’t want to get too close incase she was still upset, but that she was inviting him into her bed was a good sign. He hoped.
Unless she was planning on smothering him with a pillow.
“You won’t catch me making out with her,” he pointed out. “And that’s not me saying I’d be good at hiding it from you. I won’t,” he said simply. “That sort of thing ******** with people. Can mess them up real bad.”
He wasn’t thinking about the girl who had stolen his heart years ago, only to absently throw it back in his face. She was nothing to him, not anymore. He didn’t think about her, didn’t care to. “…And I wouldn’t do that to you.”
Yeah, Jett could be an a**. Yeah, he did things without considering feelings. There were only a handful of people in this world that Jett cared for, and right now Raven was one of them.
“Of the morals I choose to possess, I am a firm believer that once you devote yourself to someone, you stay devoted. And if it’s time to separate, you do so. You don’t go off and have an affair in the middle of it all. That’s worse than separating. It’s degrading. It’s insulting. It’s rude, and hurtful and selfish and wrong. And I’d sooner sleep with a guy than I would swap you for any other girl out there. You,” despite her attitude and rage, “Are perfect. And if you want jewelry, I’ll get you jewelry. But don’t, for a second, think I’d hurt you like that. I already dealt with mom going through it. I watched her tear herself apart, watched her break down, watched a part of her die. And you’re special to me. If I could have stopped it from happening to her, I would have. But the most I can do is make sure I never do it to you.”

Raven listened to him…pretty much pouring his heart out and scooted closer to him, resting her head on his shoulder. “I believe you. I promise, I‘ll try not flip out next time. I can’t make any promises that I won’t flip out anyway, but I promise that I’ll try.” She slipped her hand into his and gave a little squeeze.
“Your father did that to your mother, I’m guessing…That’s terrible…It really is.” No wonder Jett seemed to be so protective over his mother…and maybe that was why she always looked so sad…
Raven nuzzled him, now, seeming much more friendly. “I want…things to be okay with us…I really, I really love you, Jett. And I don’t want to lose you, and I don’t want to think that you’re leaving me, or you’re with someone else…the thought honestly…kills me inside…”
She gave a little sigh now, the rest of her worries and doubts evaporating. “It’s a really pretty necklace too. It’ll really bring out my eyes.”

Jett did not move his hand away, nor shirk from Raven’s contact. Instead, he just tilted his head so he could plant a light kiss on her cheek. “Then we can go get it tomorrow.”
He didn’t need to confirm her assumptions about his father and mother, though left it simply as, “My father had an affair with a woman at work. He left when she gave birth. Mom didn’t really ever get over it. But we can talk about them some other time. Let’s just keep tonight about us, all right?”
He stroked the back of her hand with his thumb. “So that the next time you ever have doubts, you can remember tonight and know how much I love you, too.”
