User Image It had been weeks since Azazel had left the shelter of his father's library, and even then it was only because he needed to go on hunts; tradition in his family, unavoidable tradition. They believed that these ritual hunts renewed the lustre of their bloodline and secured family solidarity, so to try to decline was essentially like disowning the family. Even though they were mandatory, Azazel actually did enjoy them, especially since it got him out and into the air where he could enjoy life. Not just books, endless sorcery practices, and etiquette. Being groomed to succeed as the family's heir was not entirely fun for a young man.

In fact, it made Azazel a strange mix between honourbound and sworn to duty as well as determined to behave childishly whenever the opportunity arose. He was not beyond displays of passion altogether, yet. And he needed to curb them, if he was ever to have a level mind, apparently. For now, he tried to sneak off so that he could enjoy his youth, every now and again. It wasn't so hard to give his escorts the slip.

Footsteps pounded past the alley in which he hid, his back pressed against the wall, his cloak drawn tightly. It was a type of illusory magic that did not make him invisible, but rather uninteresting: the eye would slide right over him, as if he was no more than a cardboard box or a vagrant. He smiled under the shadows of his capuchen and waited until the footsteps faded, before letting his hood fall back. "Sweet, beautiful freedom!" he exclaimed, stepping back into the light, back into the empty street.

Well, he'd thought it was empty, anyway. "Don't help them catch me," he immediately blurted out, to whoever it was he thought he'd just caught a glimpse of.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Music soothed the soul supposedly. Not that it helped with anything else. The music box given to her from another blackheart filled her office with a quite melody, and she half debated getting rid of it. The song reminded her too much of the those played at the court balls. She missed those days to be sure, but there was no use dwelling on them anymore. That life was lost her to. Her days of dancing in ball gowns gone. Now there was only paper work and fighting. And dealing with the occasional a*****e of overly friendly co-worker if they could be called that. She was to be set to town under orders of a 'favor'; the black hearts were to help patrol in order to keep the peace. As if Moraine believed in that, it was more posturing than anything. Keep possible majin aware that they would always have reason to fear. A final look to the music box as she went out, the former noble made not to get a different tune that day.

Not that any music shop had anything BUT the songs of court. She was supposed to patrol, but with the simple lack of anything, she'd basically resorted to walking around and trying to find a music shop. her walk was brisk as it took her down an alley. Little known short cut to the town's edge and to various shops. It was rare to see anyone but vagrants and drunks wandering in them. The sound of alarm in the distance had her head snap, it was the alarm of someone gone missing, no more.

It was only as pristine uniforms ran by that the blackheart paused. Royal escorts, but to whom? As the steps faded, a voice came forth from what she thought was some drunk covered in rags. Some boy, possibly a thief? The notion was dashed as he asked not be revealed. He'd been using illusion magic, high class magic at that. The cloak was hardly in rags and the face? Even her, one of the lowest families know of the heir. "Well." Pulling a petal from the rose in her hair, she flicked it over to the alley entrance to the road. The illusion of a rose covered wall forming. "They won't see you, but if you yell then I'm afraid you'll not have much luck your majesty."

The rose-magic fascinated Azazel. He wasn't beyond that, after all: the simple beauty of a magic which doubled as a practical cover was brilliant. He approached the wall slowly, and reached out one hand. Of course, it would be an illusion, but... it was still beautiful. It was a lot like what he stood for, after all. The illusion of wellbeing: erasing the memories that troubled his people, so that they experienced no more pain. The problems would remain, of course, but the pain vanished. The woman who had cast it had reacted quickly, and calmly, and more effectively than he'd ever imagined possible in such a situation. However, as she had called him your majesty, he figured that was pretty much self-explanatory as to why she'd done it. "I suppose it would be insulting to your intelligence to try to pretend I'm not who you seem to think I am, right?" he suggested, with a sad smile. He loved his family, he was proud of his heritage.

But for once, it would have been nice to look at a wall of blue roses and think nothing but It was kind of a stranger to help me escape. "Hopefully you're not an enemy of my family?" he asked, with a tired half-smile. Being a boy would have to wait, for later. For now, he had been identified, which meant that he had to be Azazel, Royal Son before anything else. Not even Azazel, Hiding in an Alley from his Guards and Craving Blackberry Syrup. "I'm more of a princeling than a majesty, though, don't you think?" Azazel's green eyes glinted in the dim light as he took a step forward. Her hair framed her face so perfectly.

"Would you do anything to make me yell, fair knight? I assume you are a knight; you armour betrays you. Out on patrol?" he did not recognize her as one of the Cerberus Knights, so... was it possible she was... He tilted his head, and smiled, resting his hand against his chin. At least he was in pretty, young company. It could be worse.

Magic was second nature to her, especially organic magic. Floral based magic? Also second nature. Watching the noble go to touch the wall had part of her swelling with pride, the other part embarrassed. It was a rose wall. Nothing special or fancy. Idle she picked at a loose strand of hair while he inspected. Then picking at her hair turned into a semi frozen stance. Sharp, she moved, eyes flicking past the illusion to the people beyond. He was asking if he was being insulting and the manners she had learned told her no, she should say it would not be insulting, but- "Yes. It would be." The words came out harsher than she meant them to be and mentally she cursed herself. The royal family might not directly control the black hearts, but they could make their work harder.

One mistake and one name slip was all it would take after all.

Taking a breath to gather her thoughts Moraine went over, creating a more literal rose blockade behind her illusion. Cracks formed in the stone at their feet, and she scowled at the noise of the growing thorn covered tendrils. "No, I am not an enemy, though some in your court would happily paint me as such." She cast her gaze past the illusion once more. "For various reasons." The guards and escorts were fumbling down the road, but they'd soon trail back. "Either way, you've escaped your entourage for now, but that's about as much help as you'll get from me unless you swear to vouch for me. I'd rather not get saddled with the title of royal kidnapper. I personally would prefer murderer if I must get slandered." Just like how she'd prefer that to child killer. A witch eater was a witch eater, child or not, they were abominations and needed to be put down like the rabid dogs they were.
"And Majesty is.. courtesy. Calling you princeling would imply a higher or equal rank." His step closer had her stepping back slightly. "And, technically yes, though no majin or witch eaters have been active." Arms crossed she looked up briefly thanking the stars nothing was watching them from above. "Truth be told I was a new tune for a music box I received. Sadly every song I've found has been that of the courts." A sigh. "Just once I wish the peddlers didn't bend over backwards for the nobles. "

It was rare that Azazel was allowed to enjoy beautiful illusions; it was just not something his family cared for. He, on the other hand, kept glancing over at the floral-based illusion. "Glad you can be honest with me, even if you do recognize me," he reassured her. For some reason, perhaps because he had escaped his guards so that he could avoid being a Royal today, he felt abnormally tired. "You know, you'd think I would have just practiced illusory magics more to escape my guards under a new guise... How did that not occur to me until now?" Azazel snorted and shook his head at himself.

He stepped back lightly as the ground cracked, moving away from the second spell. The hair on the back of his neck sprang up; hopefully he wouldn't become trapped here...? Admittedly, the illusion hadn't made him feel quite as penned in as the now-true roses did. "I'm not much of a painter," he joked. "Why wouldn't I vouch for you? On my honour, provided you do nothing to harm me, I will naturally protect you from the rumours and accusations of being in my company today." He paused, and then reached out a hand as if to grasp the roses, but dropped it back.

He laughed, when she lamented the peddlers. "Like me?" he asked. "Since I promise to vouch for you, might I know what to call you? Maybe I can help you find a craftsman who can make you the music you crave."

After all, he was a royal; finding someone to do his bidding was fairly easy.

Moraine shrugged. Being honest was courtesy. That, and she really didn’t think lying about anything would really help her in this case. Maybe a little, but not by much. “Well, would you trust someone who lied or told you an honest truth. I played the court games before your majesty, pretty lies are nice, but they often do a disservice to one person or another.” Or they came and bit you in the a**. And in no longer being a part of the courts, she didn’t have to make pretty little lies anymore. Looking at her illusion, the black heart gave another shrug.
“The problem would be them recognizing your magic. Or, after enough times, coming to expect it. My rose wall for example? If another black heart who knew me saw that and was looking for me? It would betray me more than aid me. Illusions are a good magic to master, but there is a balance in knowing when and where to use them. If you took such lessons formally, they would probably spout off how you can always cast an illusion, but a soldier would tell you the most convincing illusion wouldn’t matter if you put something easily recognizable on it. If they knew what to look for with you. Even if I removed my roses, I am sure something would give me away. But, I ramble on.” She waved her hand.

Blue eyes looked to the prince. “Does the name Rustolf mean anything to you? It might have been before your time but… I still have my share of enemies. I worry a bit less for myself so much as you. After all, a disgraced noble black heart speaking to the prince behind an illusion, courts talk. It’s what they always do.” She motioned for him to follow. “If you can make yourself look like a reaper in training that would be best. Try to use Brown and Blue colors to signal apprenticeship to me. It’ll raise less questions.” She went around a corner, looking down an alley. “I am Moraine. I’ll take you the end of the alley, where you go after, that your majesty is up to you. You’d have to order me away though. ‘Duty to the crown to keeping the prince safe’ and all that.”

Although the court games she referred to were a necessary and obvious part of his life, he had never particularly enjoyed them, and often shirked that particular obligation whenever possible. He took every opportunity available to him in order to escape the grounds and venture out into life-- or whatever slice of it he was allowed access to for the time being. And today, every sliver of time was precious. After all, he was grateful for what his birthright afforded him, but he had not come into his magical potency at such an age and he longed for the strength to free his people from suffering.

Oblivion, forgetting. One day these things would be his to manipulate. "Yes, it is true," he admitted, "I joke about never having considered a magical guise, but I have thought of it on more than one occasion, with longing. One of my many schemes." He picked idly at a loose thread on his jacket, thinking he should trim that before it unravelled entirely, as he considered the merits of illusory magic. "I suppose we all leave our mark somehow," he agreed, with the faintest trace of a smile.

Azazel raised his eyes to meet hers, contemplating. "I cannot say I recall the name," he admitted, "but perhaps my history is rusty." Azazel paused. "Admittedly, I see the validity in your plan-- however, I am reasonably unwilling to become what I am not more than I already must... Reapers. Hmm." Azazel seemed to trail off in thought, eyes cast at the ground again.

"Moraine, then. At the end of the alley I will be going left, down several blocks, right past the crumbling wall..." he shut his eyes, as if picturing something, tracing one finger in the air, "and then a right and through the wooden door with the lion."

That was where he knew there to be music.
