Dreidyn was unsure of letting little Cactus fight in a battle so early on. But battling is a good way to make Pokemon grow stronger... as long as they aren't being trashed to bits.
"Let's go Cactus!" She threw her Pokeball onto the battlefield. The Joltik emerged with a little flip and a c**k of his head.

"Ok Cactus! Start off with Electroweb!" That was an easy move that all Joltiks should know. Cactus glanced up at the Duskull and fired off a string of electrified webbing.

The web struck the duskull square in the chest, pinning him to the ground. Mephistopheles phased through the webs, bowing. "Greetings. My name is Mephistopheles, and I am your opponent for this match. Good luck."
His eye glowed as he spoke, memorizing the make-up of the web.

Cactus stared at Meph with a puzzled expression before firing off another Electroweb. No matter how hard he tried, he could only release a few strands, but hopefully that should be good enough.

Mephistopheles was struck down once more, phasing through the webs. His eye glowed, and the webs floated up before launching at Cactus.

Caught off guard by his own move, Cactus hastily cut through the webbing with his mandibles. The attack still stung though, and that made him mad! He went with a different attack that the Duskull wouldn't be able to copy. And that attack was a Charge Beam.

The charge beam rocked Mephistopheles, and the electricity raced along his body. Extending his arm, he sent the energy right back at the joltik.

The Duskull copied his moves again?! The Charge beam, being made of redirected energy, didn't affect Cactus that much. But it still bothered him and caused him to try something really really different this time. He lunged at Mephisto's face, mandibles reaching out for something to chomp down on.
"No Cactus! That's not going to work!" Dreidyn figured that he was just going to phase through the attack, which is why she had him stick with electric moves in the first place.

Mephistopheles was caught off guard by the sudden switch to a melee attack, and was late on phasing out of harm's way. Suffering a nasty bite, he retreated a fair bit. Electricty crackled along his arm, and he launched a burst of electricity at Cactus.

Cactus still wasn't phased by the electricity much. Even if the Duskull could copy him, he can't pull it off better than he can! Just to prove it, he fired off the strongest Charge Beam that he could muster.

Darkness covered the field, lifting to reveal Mephistopheles at Lenore's side. The two waved before departing.
