Together they have wandered far, come from the edge of the highest mountain enclosing their world. They together had seen much and gathered a great amount of information. This information would be used, you see. They were realizing the paths least traveled, yet safest for many.

Sent from the great thinkers from the skies to create a nomadic pack, to teach those of lesser intellect about the lands and keep the peace. They were Ash and Calm Eyes, both dyed blue, the highest color ranking save white in their culture.

The shade of the patch of forest through which they traveled was a true blessing. Having spent the worst of midsummer plodding through desert by night, crouching under rocky outcroppings during the sweltering day, the wolves felt deep joy at the sight of green on the horizon. They bathed their blistered paws in lukewarm pools and drank doubtful tepid water from them. But water it was, and when their strength returned somewhat they pressed on, spurred by the promise of a path to a safe haven.

The mottled wolf stopped quickly on his way down a crevasse studded with pine trees, ears flicking at the realization that fresh running water was close. His mate, Ash following his stead. He knew he wouldn't have to ask to confirm that she had noticed the same. She was like-minded after all and generally the one to see things first.

"Shall we take a look? It has been many days travel since we have found flowing waters. Only tepid ponds or small desert pools." His steady, soft voice addressing Ash, interested in what she might think.

The she-wolf padded ahead of him silently, not wasting words on the realization of their mutual senses. The wind sang to her, bringing the music of a brook, the cool fresh scent of mountain water burbling down from a spring far above... And a conspicuous absence of the scents of other wolves. She turned and nodded to Calm Eyes, satisfaction in her voice. "Do you smell how clean it is? Nobody's been here in quite a while, if ever."

Closing aqua orbs, Calm eyes allowed the scents to paint a picture for him. Ash had been correct, it did seem to have been quiet awhile since any wolf has passed. The smell of rodents and possible game however, had filled the air. This spot was truly promising. He could envision having his pack live here for an extended period of time before moving onward.

They could be safe too, for the distance between packs from this location was nearly a months time. And neither of those packs seemed to enjoy travel. All the better in his eyes.

"Such promise. This spot could be used for a longer stay. A place to raise pups." His voice seemed distant as he spoke. However, it was not full of sorrow, no this was an excited distance. One ready for the future.

"Hmm." Ash was never one to count pups before they were born. With experienced caution, she continued down into the valley, her ears perked, nostrils flaring, eyes darting to and fro. Unlike the Trance of the Skies, which she used to channel information from the Floating Thoughts, this was the Trance of the Earth, her senses elevated to a strong degree, so much that she could feel the thrum of the Spirits of Rock under her paws.

She found herself on a pebbled shore, smooth stones plastered together with dried silt. A stream sang nearby, the water clear and cool. She gave a soft bark and padded up onto a flat stone reaching into the stream from the water's edge. She tilted her head at the fish looking up at her curiously. Truly this place was pristine, for the fish in the streams of home darted away at the hint of a shadow on the water's surface. A sniff, a few laps, and she turned to her mate, her eyes satisfied. "This is a good place. The water is pure... And the prey abundant. We should bring the others as soon as we can."

With a twitch of his nose, he agreed, already having known this fact. Calm eyes was the type to understand with emotion after all, while Ash was tempered by the earth to be more logical. However, her opinion did matter to him. She was his mate for many reasons, one of which being the fact that she was his foil.

If ever there was a time were they did not agree the reason behind it generally built a better understanding of the issue, or in this case, land.

"Shall we stay and observe then?"

[OOC Notice:

Calm Eyes and Ash will be starting a pack. This RP is to gain interest for that, but also to have them meet more characters. You do not have to have your character join them. However, if interested please feel free to PM me for more details or wait for the interest thread to appear.

[ *tosses Rain in* <33 ]

The soft pitter patter of small paws was quiet compared to the natural sounds heard around the the forest land or along the river. But today, those quiet footfalls could be heard cautiously moving through unknown territory. An area unexplored and quite nerve wracking. At least for Rain Song. She was not one to explore or go on adventures, but she'd been restless and started off in a general direction, letting her feet carry her where they desired.

The smaller wolf paused, taking shelter among some shrubbery to rest her paws and listen to what her ears could tell her. She flicked them forward, backward, and to the sides. Nothing unusual. But this was new territory! Her tongue lolled out as she panted, letting herself relax and not panic over the fact she was alone.

She hated being alone. It terrified her. But she was afraid to run into any other wolves at the same time. A soft whine whimpered out of Rain Song, and the shewolf buried her nose under a leg to try and shake that ugly feeling.

One ear perked forward, nose twitching. Raising her head, the shewolf sniffed at the ground again. There was...a scent here. Recent. Not one that normally belonged. Her shoulders hunched, hackles raising. Should she ignore the scent? Or...or maybe follow it? Ignoring it meant continuing to stay alone. Following it though....

With another whine, Rain Song hesitantly stood, nose lowering to the ground once more. She started out, following the scent as best she could. Then spooked herself when an extra dry branch cracked under her paws. She gave a yip, tail flattening to her belly as she looked all around. Not seeing anything...or anyone, Rain Song inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly to try and slow her pounding heart down.

Maybe...maybe whoever those scents belonged to was nearby? And...and hopefully they wouldn't...attack her? Panting again, she gave in to the impulse of a lonely wolf searching for any others of her kind nearby, raising her voice and letting out a soft sweet howl.

Ash and Calm Eyes' ears perked in unison at the howl, and before Calm Eyes could say anything, Ash had disappeared into the foliage. The she-wolf moved with quick silent paws, as if stalking prey. The scent came upon her quickly and she stopped, peering through the bushes. Her gaze fell upon the lone wolf she heard, and she crouched, observing the stranger. Within a few moments, Calm Eyes joined her and together they watched for several moments.

Ash made the first move, coming out of the brush and locking her eyes on the stranger's, silent and severe. Calm Eyes followed, gently raising his ears. "Hello, little one. Don't be frightened. Are we on your land?"

Ash flicked an ear, slightly annoyed. Much as she loved Calm Eyes, his penchant for diplomacy seemed to her impractical. Though she was sure this stranger wasn't bait from a hostile pack, she was loath to maintain a facade of weakness. "I scented no others. She's as strange to this land as we are..."

Continuing to maintain eye contact with the stranger, Calm Eye too, displayed his own sort of annoyance. His foot shifting ever so slightly toward Ash. Breaking his aqua gaze away from the stranger, Calm Eyes looked towards his mate. "Steady your emotions, Ash."

Ash nodded softly and stepped back. "Well, we must take her to the stream, then. I'm sure she'd be as grateful for fresh running water as we are." Ash turned and stalked to the river as Calm Eyes turned to the newcomer. "I'm sorry about my mate. She can be quite... Abrupt."

She was starting to fear that no one would come and she'd be stuck out here alone. And Rain Song was not ready to deal with that. A soft whimper escaped as she panted from nervousness and circled around in a small area, trying to find any signs of other wolves again. Her heart was thumping wildly, tail almost plastered to her belly.

And then there was a wolf. Rain Song froze, eyes wide and the instinct to bolt to safety strongly flowing through her. The shewolf lowered her head, making it painfully clear she was not very dominant and did not wish to cause any trouble. But the other female's eyes sent her fur standing on end and shivers skittering down her spine.

Oh! Oh no, now there were two of them! Rain Song just about flattened herself against the ground. The only thing keeping her from doing so was the fact her limbs didn't seem to respond, frozen in fear.

"I...I-I..." She whined, ears lowered and tail now successfully plastered to her underside. "N-No. Not...my land..." Rain Song whispered, blue eyes flickering to the female that seemed to dislike her already. At least, that's how she saw it. And there...seemed to be a small bit of annoyance that passed between them. Was it because she had come here? What if she had wandered on to their land! And now they were going to punish her!

Rain Song started slightly as the female turned away. "I...I don't...want to...intrude." She said hesitantly, an ear perking ever so slightly at mention of a 'stream'. The shewolf swallowed, looking up at the male. "I'm t-terribly sorry if...if I...did anything wrong." Her gaze flickered towards where the other wolf had just been before returning to the one in front of her.

"We're intruding as much as you, little one. Ash is just... Slow to warm up to new faces. My name is Calm Eyes." He led the smaller wolf to the stream, where Ash was already sniffing around. "Ash, tell her you mean no harm, she's terribly nervous."

Ash looked up from her nasal survey, flicked her tail once. "I mean you no harm." With barely a nod she returned to her sniffing and Calm eyes shook his head. "That's the best you'll get out of her while she's smelling around, I'm afraid. Not to worry. You'll be safe with us. Have a drink. The water is fresh and clear."

Calm Eyes' head snapped around at his mate's bark, and Ash came out of the reeds dragging a plump duck. She placed it in front of the two and looked at Rain Song. "Eat this." She stalked back into the reeds along the stream's edge and Calm Eyes smiled. "A peace offering, I suspect."
