Shalar returned to the spot he had left Az, wondering is he would soon wake up from the dream he was having. Surely his inner darkness wouldn't stay outside forever... would it? He was confused, his brow furrowed as he slowed he walk to a stop. What should he do? Part of him wanted to keep Az close, to protect and hide her from the world, and another part of him wanted to show her off... to prove he had overcome his own shortcomings and had found something beautiful in it. He shook his head, there was no point thinking this. It was what it was, nothing more, nothing less... right? Biting back his thoughts he called out for her, wanting to make sure she knew it was him and didn't hide. "I have returned Az. Are you here?"

Azkadellia had been having many little thoughts over the past few days. Shalar had left on some business of his and she had elected to remain in the spot she thought of as theirs. It was the same clearing with the hollowed out tree that they had spent that magical evening together. The mare gave a little smile as she brushed her wings gently across the tree's bark. It, and Shalar, had kept her safe that night that the kalona had raged through the forest. What might have happened if either one of them had been discovered? She sighed softly before her ears caught the sound of approaching hoof steps. Here she was out in the open during daylight when she stood out too much. Her tense muscles relaxed at the sound that greeted her next. It was Shalar. It had to be. "Shalar..."
His name came out a breathless whisper before she shook her head and tried again, "Shalar. I'm here."

Shalar couldn't help but smile, the thing breaking he usually stoic features. Az, Azkadellia. She was here, and just as beautiful as his memories recalled. He paused for a moment, just taking in the sight of her before he approached. "Have you been... well?" He asked a little apprehensively. He didn't generally know what to do around the opposite sex at the best of times, but she was... part of him.... right? While away his sisters had muses and messed with him, playing with his hair and appearance. Each telling him he needed to look his best to woo any lady, did that apply here too? Wait, was he trying to woo Az? It was true that the five signs of love they always rambled on about where there. 1. Your eyes are always drawn to them. 2. You think about them when you are apart. 3. You want to return to them. 4. They make you smile, even when others can't. 5. You find yourself wanting to be the best 'you' you can be. Yes, he was five for five.
Taking a few more steps he looked at her, her long sweeping hair and delicate frame. His eyes were a little detached as he checked her for injuries, but even with that detachment he couldn't help but notice how fine a body she had. Beautiful was an understatement. She seemed fine. He coughed then and looked into her eyes a little nervously. "Ah!" he remembered, shifting his wings so that Petal and a little bundle were revealed. "We brought you something." Petal opened the parcel to reveal a pink rose. Taking it between his teeth he picked it up and threaded it into Az's mane. He had grown them with his father for his mother and sisters, but after wandering there before leaving he had been unable to resist plucking the most perfect of their harvest for someone special.

Azkadellia had brightened on seeing Shalar come into view. She had to admit to herself that she had missed the stallion. There was just something about him that kept drawing her mind and eyes back to him. It was a strange sensation. Azkadellia peered at Shalar as he asked if she was well. "I am very well. Thank you for asking. It's been a few days since you left my side but I felt each one and the days just seemed longer to get through."
Azkadellia then watched as Shalar's wings shifted and a little mouse appeared. It seemed to be holding a small bundle and she couldn't hide her surprise. This was a surprise. She hadn't seen the mouse before but it seemed at home on Shalar's back. "Who is this?"
Her questions that she wanted to continue asking stopped as she watched as a brilliant pink rose was revealed in the bundle's interior. The bloom was in perfect bloom and she gave a soft sound of surprise at its appearance. Shalar then picked the bloom up between his teeth and threaded it into her mane. She simply remained still at his actions before feeling an intense wave of emotion for the stallion. "Shalar," her voice almost cracked. "Thank you."

Shalar didn't know what to say to Az's gentle words of admitance about the days being long, and so he remained silent. A bad habit perhaps but one he possessed. At least in silence he could feel secure with himself, after all, around this mare he often felt anything but secure. Still he managed another smile and nodded at her before mumbling a swift, "I'm glad."
He was acting like an unsure colt again, or at least that was how it felt to him. As he concentrated with the flower he didn't answer Az's question, and once it was in place he took a moment to simply admire his handy work. Just as he thought, it suited her well, even if the pink was in stark contrast to her blue, purple and black. "Beautiful." He said, before registering her words, was it just him or had her voice faltered? He blinked at that, did it mean something? Was she unwell? Unhappy? Shalar was rather clueless with this kind of thing, especially since he usually kept himself very much to himself. Rarely interacting with anyone outside of his immediate family. Still, his manners dictated that he reply with the faithful, "You're welcome."
Petal shifted on his back as if after attention, turning to look at the pink mouse, holding its little fan he couldn't help but roll his eyes. Immature little thing. Why had he ever accepted responsibility for it? Too late now. Returning his gaze to Az he said softly, "This is Petal, as you know," Or at least Shalar would have thought his inner darkness would know since they were connected, "she is rather rude at times, so please excuse her."
"Rude!?" Petal said with indignantion. "I swear Shalar you need to learn some manners, I am adorable." The little mouse eyed the pretty mare. "Now this creature is absolutely stunning. Where have you been hiding her?" Petal scampered down Shalar's back and legs before wandering over to the mare, circling her as she examined her before climbing up her back and onto her head. "I like her." She declared.

Azkadellia felt the bloom against her mane and gave a soft smile. She was sure that pink wasn't her color but it was the thought that counted the most. She approached Shalar and gave the stallion a gentle nuzzle. She felt a little strange inside; light on her hooves it seemed. Was it the simple gesture of receiving a gift from Shalar that had her feeling like this?
"I mean it Shalar. Thank you. This is the most precious thing that anyone has ever given me. When the bloom fades we must find a way to preserve it."
Azkadellia's attention was drawn to the mouse's movements. She gave a tiny chuckle at the conversation that the two seemed to be sharing. The sound of her laughter surprised her. She hadn't found much reason to laugh before meeting Shalar. It was always: stay in the shadows, don't be seen, leave others confused. It felt nice to laugh. The mare shivered as she watched the mouse drop to the ground and circle her.
At the feeling of tiny claws racing up her side and onto her head Azkadellia found her voice again. "Hello Petal. I thank you for the compliment. I'm glad to see you. And you are right ... you are adorable."
Azkadellia glimpsed a quick glance towards Shalar before gently coming to stand beside him. She raised her wings before giving Shalar's back a gentle caress. "I truly missed you. And I am glad that you returned back to me."

Shalar watched as Petal climbed onto Az's back, almost jealous... almost... he refused to be jealous of his childish little friend. He only looked after her because he made a promise to his father, sometimes he wish he had known better... still, he supposed she had helped him too. With a sigh he simply continued to watch.... surely his inner darkness knew all about Petal? Then again it was possible that she lost all her memories when she left his heart to become real....
Drawn towards her he watched as she lazily caressed his side, found himself doing something he never done with anyone outside of his family.... he reached towards with his head and nuzzled her, rubbing her neck gently with his nose... up and down, and back once more for good measure. "You are always with me..." He found himself saying, "...part of me... I would always return to you." As far as Shalar was concerned she was his inner darkness come real, and when real she was beautiful.... proving that darkness didn't have to be ugly or evil, but could be delicate and beautiful if nurtured that way.... and he wanted so much to keep her this way.

Azkadellia couldn't hide the shock when Shalar approached her and gently ran his nose up and down her neck a few times. The sensations brought on by the gesture took her by surprise. A slow moving tide of gratitude filled her completely at that simple act. Why had it taken her so long to realize what she was looking at? The mare reached out and repeated the gesture along Shalar's neck before her ears registered the words that he had said. Her eyes widened at the simple declaration. A soft smile lit her features as she took in the scene. Here she was standing in a clearing with a mouse on her head exchanging nuzzles with a stallion that she'd only known for a little while.
Somehow though the picture she was visualizing didn't seem at all odd. The pleasant warmth from standing at someone's side brought a small serene feeling from the image. Her eyes closed as she whispered the words that echoed from her heart. "I am glad. I do not think that I could imagine anything else than you being with me. We belong with each other, do we not?"

He couldn't help but smirk with satisfaction as she copied his motion... yes, the feeling of rightness that washed over him couldn't be denied. The smile didn't drift from his features as she spoke. "Yes my dear little inner darkness, we do belong together...." He wasn't sure what he was doing, his movements a little jolty and uneven as he approached and kissed her cheek before saying her name, a sultry purr upon his lips. "Azkadellia."

Azkadellia still couldn't figure out why Shalar continued to call her his "inner darkness" but a part of her didn't think to tell him to stop. The mare viewed it without much fuss. It almost seemed like it could be a pet name or endearment. Shalar's next actions might have just caught her off guard as her eyes were still closed. The gentle touch against her cheek had her inhaling deeply. The action of swallowing such a big lungful of air was too much for her. As a result she began to cough.
It might have taken less than a few minutes to pull herself together but Azkadellia could still remember how her name had sounded coming from Shalar. She gave the stallion a shy sidelong glance before tentatively letting her muzzle press against his cheek in a reciprocating fashion. Her voice stayed silent but she conveyed what she was feeling into that simple gesture.

Shalar's eyes widened in surprise as she started coughing... was she ok... he suddenly feared the worst, but he had no idea what he could do.. what he should do... thankfully whatever it was seemed to fade swiftly enough and he noticable relaxed... only to tense a little as she kissed his cheek in return. He wasn't used to such things, generally keeping himself completely to himself. But it was different with Az, she was different... had called to a part of him no one else would ever touch, not surprising considering what she was to him.
Still, he tried to relax and accept the touch. Watching her sweet shyness. It brought a smile to his face again. "Shall we go for a walk my dear?" He asked softly, not really sure what they should do now... "...or perhaps... we can talk?" Not that Shalar knew what they would talk about, but he would at least try.

At least he hadn't pulled away from her kiss. The strange notion of this being something more bloomed into Azkadellia's mind and heart. She had begun to realize just how deeply she cared for Shalar's presence in her life. It was almost like she craved his presence like he craved hers. She gave a quiet sigh before picking up on the fact that she had been asked a question. Azkadellia gave a thoughtful pause to mull over the two choices before she grinned.
"I think a walk would be a lovely thing. We seem to have run out of things that we might be able to hold a conversation with," her voice was light and teasing. "Physical activity might do us some good. And we can still talk while we walk ... can't we?" Azkadellia could still feel the weight of the mouse on her head and she blushed briefly. Petal had been privy to a special moment between them. She made sure to keep her motions small as she gave her head a gentle shake, "What do you think Petal?"

Shalar nodded at Az's suggestion, even as he decided to tease her a little. "Are you trying to hint that I am boring you m'lady?" He smiled though, not at all feeling offended by her words.. after all, he was far from the best with conversation and a walk would at least provide an alternative distraction if they needed it. "Exercise is good.... though the way you say it I suddenly feel as if I should have a complex. Am I not toned enough for you?" Shalar actually prided himself on hus appearance, his muscles were well toned and cared for despite his girly appearance, how else was he supposed to protect his mother and sisters?
Petal yipped and watched the pair, delighted that her stubborn companion was actually opening up to someone... it seemed miracles really did happen. With a chirp she wiggled her nose and looked down at the mare she was still sat on. "Sounds like a plan to me. He's boring though, you'll have to do all the work!" She teased before leaping from Az to Shalar and settling on his neck.
"You cheeky little rat...." He mumbled as she jumped to him.
