(Maya's dear friend from the adoption thread)

Name: Dyakida

Race: Alkidike

Gender: Female

Base Traits:
Loyal: She is loyal to her family group (her close sisters and the elder that they live with), her tribe, and her friends. She would do anything for them, would risk life and limb and sanity for them. She will try the things others say she cant do and go the extra mile... for her dear family.

Serene: Dyakida is very calm and centered. Even through the misery she is subjected to by her scornful family, even when others would be hot and bothered, she remains as calm as the surface of a lake. Even when she is upset, she runs noticably cooler than her other sisters.

Sly: Before her accident, she would often think up clever ways to beat her sisters at games... not because she wanted to actually win the games, but because it helped them grow and learn. Though the competitive edge of this has subsided with her sight, she still uses her head to solve her problems, and still goads on her sisters to greater hights of alkidikedom.

Class: Artisan: Spearcrafter or Weapon crafter, hopefully she will be making the sort of high-quality weapons that a Sacred Heart would use.

Personality:
Dyakida is a calm person. Her strength always came from within, and she was a user of meditative techniques, practicing them since she was young.
Though blinded by an accident, she is still meditative and calm. She trains with a quarterstaff, though more for the meditative aspect of the routine than for fighting, since her blindness hinders her.
Though her blindness and resulting choice of a noncombat occupation makes her scorned by her own kin, she faces it with serene calmness and Conviction: she knows that what she is doing will help the tribe, even if they do not think so. Weapons are the soul of a warrior, and she wishes to make them. How can she not be helping the tribe if she makes their souls strong and beautiful?

But even this mentally strong girl has her moments of weakness, when she cries to herself, wondering why they wont understand that she IS valuable to her tribe, and that there is more to strength than the body.
She often, in these moments of despair, wonders what she had done to earn the stroke of bad luck that blinded her.
Eventually, she gets her frustration back under the calm surface of her mind, often with meditation or breathing techniques.
But that doesn't mean it goes away.

Nonetheless, she dearly loves her tribe, and moreso those who share her tree. She would do anything for them, and sees it as her goal to inspire them to become great members of the tribe. She feels that she owes this to them and to the tribe because of her blindness and inability to fight as a warrior of the Alkidikes.

Description:
Eyes: either closed or a milky grey or white.
Pattern: Similar to how it is set up on this dragon, except less dense. The face thing is a must though...
Hair: Worn as a braid.

Clothing:
Simple, pale cloth. Worn like a Sari.

Accessories:
~ a satchel for gathering supplies for her craft. It is large enough to handle large sticks of wood and sharp stone, metal, or chitin, but also able to handle the more subtle ingredients of a fine alkidike spear: herbs and oils for the ungents that make it receptive to magic, threads and beads for decoration... and her carving knife for the intricate patterns that make each unique.
~ the braid is held by a large beadlike hair ornament that is a deep amber in color.

History:
Dyakida has known Maya for a long time, since they were younglings under Mother Aisha's shade.
She was of the group of prentices that went to Jahuar to find a tree to live in, and one of the few who stood by Maya when Maya insisted that the tree they had found was too small, trying to mediate in the fight that ensued.
She was also one of the few that left with Maya to find a bigger tree, their current home.
Along the way there, this small group encountered a large insect that took offense to their presence and attacked.
In the ensuing battle, Dyakida took an attack meant for one of her other sisters- a spitting attack of toxins that hit her in the face and eyes. Using her innate mental fortitude to continue on despite through the initial sting, she held it off until Maya and one of the other sisters could finish it.
She washed her face off in the nearest stream and thought it over.
However, in the days that followed, her eyes began to hurt more and more and her vision began to worsen. By the time they had reached the tree, she could barely see and was almost dizzy from the pain.
Resting did little, but the pain did die after a time... but her sight died with it.
After the initial shock of realizing her blindness, and after a period of confused, frustrated, despair where she considered herself useless, Dyakida found her salvation in her sense of touch... and what she could do with her hands.
She realized that repairing items- something she could still do- gave her a sense of peace and calm. This made her wonder if creating them could do the same. This hope led her to start practicing artisanal skills with only her sense of touch to guide her.
She has been working diligently ever since, towards a goal where her tribe accepts her as a useful member, despite her damage. A lofty, perhaps impossible goal. But something.

Plans:
As she can get around with her sense of touch, and creating weapons does mean she has to interact with other alkidikes, much of her character will be being treated like s**t and trying to earn back their respect and love.
Also, she would be willing to talk to Earthlings, too. So long as I can RP her blindness effectively, it will be fine. I will find a way.

Edited...

Also this
Dyakida closed her eyes and leaned against Aisha's bough. “One... Two... Three...”
She counted, giving her sisters time to get ahead of her before chasing after them.
She was it in their game of tag, and she would play it fairly, not like some who counted too fast and cheated.
“Ready or not!” she shouted, and the chase begun.
She raced up towards her best friend, leaping from bough to bough with the uncaring agility of the young.
“I bet I'll catch you, Maya!” she taunted.
Maya was faster... but Dyakida knew that taunting her would make her go even faster. The thought made her grin as she ran and jumped. Going fast was good for her friend, and a good challenge for her.

Maya sat with her feet dangling over the edge of one of her mothers bigger bows. The morning had come rather swiftly urging her out of her slumber. Humming as her feet swung back and forth on the branches the youngling's dark eyes searched the braches above and below her for her friends. Some of them were just waking up others had been up and about if not rather sluggishly, not that it could be helped the day was partly cloudy and clouds always meant rain. It would inevitably force them all towards their mothers trunk but for now Maya needed a game to play. Shifting the tiny Alkidike dropped down to the branch below her and tapping her close friend on the shoulder with a beaming grin. "Tag." She giggled dashing away through the branches. Laughing as she moved higher, lower, and back to the side Maya was suprised to notice other children had been caught up in the game as well. The one she had 'tagged' earlier didn't seem to be the one who was tagged now.

Her eyes darted quickly about in case whoever it was managed to catch her. At this point she would have to be careful about all the children, who knew which one would be caught up in the game and could just be pretending not to be involved. It wasn't like she could magically change the game from tag to hide and seek after all. It would be breaking the rules! After several moments she set out in search of the other younglings to find out if any of them knew who was it. Apparently the one who had been tagged last had wussed out and gone for a nap. Huffing her dissapointment offered for the game to be restarted in which time all the girls who wanted gathered around the large branches. Some eager for the chase, others the thrill, either way it was Maya's favorite game and she wasn't going to loose.

Waiting until someone had been picked, inevitably it was Dya one of her closer friends. Maya was faster than her, though sometimes Dya had a way of getting in her head and making it bigger than it should be thus somehow beating her. That wouldn't happen today she was going to play this smart! Waiting for the countdown Maya braced her body before launching into the branches, what she didn't expect was for Dya to come strait after her first! Squeeling as she darted down a couple of branches past a few of the older sister's Maya was not about to be caught.

Dyakida was not looking for a win, she was looking for fun. As Maya darted between the older sisters, she didnt even consider that they might be playing. Maya was her target. Her friend had played this game a few days ago and had lost to a faster alkidike, so it was Dya's job to motivate her so that she wouldn't be so sulky again.
And... she saw the perfect oppurtinity.
She slowed a moment, lidded her eyes, and calmed her mind before springing to a higher branch and using it and its fellows as a shortcut to run AHEAD of Maya, cutting her off and running towards her. She didn't need to say anything- the startled look on her friends face was enough.
She hoped it would give Maya even more motivation to use those legs of hers. Either way, she was really proud of her ingenuity.
She winked as she ran closer, hand outstretched.

Glacing back Maya's face turned into puzzlement she couldn't see Dya behind her. Maya knew she wasn't that slow so the only thing she could think of was her friend was plotting a new course to catch her. Not today! Slowing her progress around the tree Maya pulled herself up several branches before running towards the trunk and climbing up a few more. Where was Dya and what exactly was she up to this time, or had she tagged another. Making a mental note to keep a better eye on where the 'it' girl was Maya about to leap into another branch when her eyes fell on the familiar Alkidikes face.

Dya was coming towards her from in front now, confused at how the girl had gotten infront of her didn't linger long as she instantly dropped a couple branches below and darted back the way she had come. Mentally taking note she was going to have to think not only faster, but smarter ways to get away from this one. Her other sisters rarely over powered her in the trees though it happened more often than she liked to admit. Deep inside she didn't like the feeling of people running from her, though she had no problem running from her sisters. Dropping two more branches Maya chanced doubling back again the way she had originally been heading in case she could trip up Dya and escape her tag.

Dyakida would have giggled if her breathing wasn't coming too fast for such a thing. Look at that! Already, Maya was improving! Time to REALLY turn up the pressure. She tagged two of her sisters for good measure, dropping to find... Maya was out of sight.
She frowned a moment and scurried off to find her, pacing along the boughs and glancing at every spot of moving green.
Ah! Was that her?
Dyakida darted after the shape...
No.. it wasn't...
Ah, there?
No, again, another sister.
There!
It was her this time, and Dyakida dashed after her, trying to keep her balance, though she felt herself wobble. She slowed down, heart pounding. She didn't want to fall. She slowed to a stop and took a deep breath before crouching and running with a lot more care. She attempted to sneak up on Maya, though she hadn't bothered to hide herself.

Settling down on a thick branch high up in on Aisha Maya took in several long strides. Someone below her seemed to be acting like they were it, the the only way they could actually be it was if her friend had managed to tag someone. In that case did it mean Dyakida was no longer it? Huffing she started glancing around unaware that she was being crept up upon.
Blinking as her eyes scanned the branches below her thinking Dya was running around them a training lesson blinked into her mind. The tiny Alkidike had been scolded for not properly listening to the vibrations from the world around her. Taking in a deep breath the tiny girl pressed her palm to her flat chest, closing her eyes slowly as she tried to focus on the branches around her. Vibrations confused her, the wind in the leaves the wiggling branches her sisters dancing with each other on a couple branches below and then... footsteps behind her?

spinning around Maya's eyes grew wide, Dya was right there. Curses she had found her easily. That didn't mean she had to be able to catch her right? The day had only just started and Maya was determind not to be caught. Straitening up as Dya came at her Maya started back away slowly, she hadn't noticed where she put her next step and before she knew it the clumsy girl missed her step and tumbled off the branch.

Her fall didn't go very far but it was enough to knock the wind out of her lungs. Grumbling about not having the branch where it was supposed to be and cursing one of her sisters for moving it Maya struggled to breathe.

Normally, since she had tagged others, she would not be it.
But Dya wanted to teach her friend to be flexible about rules. So, she changed them.
It was now a free for all, where everybody tagged would become it and tag others, until the sun touched the newest lotus on the tree. Then all the alkidikes playing and not it would 'win' and they could start a new game.
Yes yes, it was complicated. But it got them to think!
She had delayed a bit to tell her sisters this, and hopefully they would spread the rules without too much trouble.
She wondered what would happen.
She crept up on her sister, grinning slightly wickedly. Almost... almost...
Ah!
Maya turned to face her, surprised. Dya was surprised too: Maya was usually not hard to sneak up on...
Surprised and proud. Look at how the younger alkidike was getting more astute because of her!
Then Maya took a fall. The smile became a frown of concern.
“Maya, Are you..?” she began... before slipping on a patch of warm lichen and falling herself, rolling to catch her fall.
“Ow.”
She looked at her sister.
“Maya, are you okay?”

Maya glanced over to Dya once she had managed to catch her breath with a grin before bursting out in a fit of giggles. "You almost got me this time Dya!" Giggling again as she turned her head to look back up at the sky the tiny Alkidike raised her hand as if she were reaching up into the sky able to catch any falling petals or leaves from their mothers branches.
The lesson had paid off and Maya had learned a new thing, she was going to have to be more astute to her intuitions when it came to the movements of the area around her. It would probably help if she could memerize the movements. she thought to herself. Catching her breath from the bout of giggling Maya stretched her arms out above her head reaching her fingers as far as she could while pointing her toes. The stretch felt good releasing the pain echoed in her muscled after the fall.
She watched as a couple of their sisters dashed about the branches aboce them, glancing briefly over the pair as they lay in the fluffy branches of leaves. Obviously not interested in their still forms, Maya could only guess that they thought the two friends had been that way all along and not involved in the game. It had not occured to her Dya wasn't it even though she had run from her. It didn't matter anyways, if she meant to tag her Maya was sure she would have already.

Dyakida grinned. “Almost! But you managed to get away, didn't you?” She laughed, though her concerned look returned.
“Are you sure you're okay, though? That was quite a fall...” she looked her sister over, then nodded.
“Yeah, you're okay.” she said, lying back, a bit winded herself.
They were like that for a little bit, quietly watching the leaves and petals against the sky.
“Wanna play again?”

[12:13:16 AM] Ritsa: how does she fair outside of her home tree
[12:13:20 AM] Ritsa: does she get lost?
[12:13:23 AM] Ritsa: turned around?
[12:13:28 AM] Ritsa: if so how does she respond to this
[12:15:02 AM] Ritsa: how does she react to unfamiliar sounds around her or movements? Does a sister always accompany her from the house to make sure she is safe?

[8:37:37 AM] melanath: For the first one, I think you're going ot have trouble making her come off as sly AND loyal. The two are kinda mutually exclusive, since loyalty implies trust.
[8:38:23 AM] draconicfeline: when i did rp her, she seemed... less competitive and more... sly?
[8:38:56 AM] draconicfeline: its a wierd sort of sly.Is there a word for intentionally tricking and making things hard for those you love so that they learn how to deal with it?
[8:39:10 AM] draconicfeline: playing mind games for their benefit?
[8:39:46 AM] melanath: can be done, but for that it would be best to intrnalise the loyalty rather than have it as a key trait.
[8:40:14 AM] draconicfeline: hmm. so what sort of key trait would replace it?
[8:40:35 AM] melanath: artful or something. Artfulness and slyness tend to go hand in hand
[8:41:46 AM] draconicfeline: o your saying that loyalty should be an aspect of the slyness?
[8:41:49 AM] draconicfeline: artful?
[8:42:27 AM] draconicfeline: thats a doubel entendre for her
[8:42:50 AM] draconicfeline: artful: adept at manipulating
Artful: showing art or skill
[8:43:11 AM] draconicfeline: BTW, I'm going to post the skype transcripts in the threads so that I can refer back to them
[8:44:28 AM] melanath: in this case adept and manipulating. If you're sly you don't want people to know you're loyal- the entire point of slyness is to be unpredictable. Loyalty is the polar opposite of that, so it would be better to hide that trait if it exists.
[8:45:49 AM] draconicfeline: shes a crafstwoman you realize. Artful in both definitions would suit her
[8:46:51 AM] melanath: right, but I was trying to explain in the other context
