More than once, as a matter of fact, since meeting the very first of the kiokote she'd seen. Every time she wandered back, she hoped she'd meet someone new. Even though they had come in to the swamp now, as well, there was just something exciting about standing on hard-packed earth and watching them move. Run. Speed along in ways she couldn't.

Still, she could try. And she did. She sprang forward, a good, high leap onto solid ground, then she turned and sprang back, tucking her hooves and trying to remember how the cousins ran. Hop! Leap! Jump!

He was exploring. Running as fast as he could, looking, smelling... feeling the world around him. Dog was excited to exist today. And you know what? This was a good a spot as any. He was near the swamp as he was running, unaware of any of his cousin kin as he suddenly stopped, nose to the ground. He rooted around on the hard packed earth a moment before dropping to his side.

In a heartbeat, he was on his back, legs flailing in the air as he wriggled around on the ground, stirring up a bit of dust as he scooted along on his back.

Shines-Bright stopped bouncing about. She was watching the buck now. The buck on the ground. The buck on the ground, wriggling along on his back. Head tilted, she studied him curiously. He wasn't grunting in pain or crying out for help, and yet... that couldn't be good, could it?

She stayed out of his way, flicked an ear and called, "Are you all right?"

Mmmmaaaaaaaah yeah~ Dog was having the time of his life rolling in the dirt, kicking up dust everywhere when he heard the voice speak to him. He stopped abruptly and scrambled to his feet and looked at the white doe a moment before shaking violently, dust flying from his earthen coat.

"Perfectly peachy!" Came the happy reply. He stared at her a moment before trotting closer. She was still standing in the last swampy parts of earth between the swamps and plains. He got close, maybe uncomfortably so, nose twitching as he tried to catch her scent. "Haven't you ever just stopped and indulged in the need for a dust bath?"

Well, at least she'd been right. He wasn't hurt. He was just ...scratching himself and enjoying getting dirty. Scratching an itch? That she could get behind. Rolling in the dirt just to roll in the dirty?

She flicked an ear and drew her head back a little, just to put a little more space between their noses, but she didn't actually step back, and she did laugh. Out loud. Not at him, but just laughter. And why not? "How is a bath in the dust a bath at all? It's ...dirty." And dirty was something Shines never was, so she laughed again. "I've never even heard of a dust bath. It looked like you were having fun, though." Despite the cloud of dust and the scent of it on him. It sort of made her want to sneeze.

A dust bath. No, that couldn't be for getting clean, so: "What's it for?"

Dog tilted his head to the side as she laughed. That was a nice sound; she was happy, or at least amused, so that was good. But as the doe started questioning a dust bath, Dog's ears perked up straight.

"It helps cool you off when you're running the open wilds. And bugs. Bugs don't seem to like you when you're covered in dust and dirt." He nodded happily. So it's fun and useful! You should try it some time!" Sure her coat was a pristine white, but she'd look good with a little dirt too. "You wanna try it?"

Oh.

Oh, well.

"I don't so much running," Shines confessed. "Though I did, once, with some of your ... cousins? That was fun. And they were so fast! Faster than I can run even in my dreams." She didn't seem particularly upset by not being fast. It was a pleasant admission. Watching had been almost as much fun as trying to keep up.

At the invitation to try a dust bath, she startled a bit and did take a step back. No, she took two. She shook her head. "I don't think I will. I don't need dust to keep the bugs off. That's what tails are for." And she demonstrated happily, swinging her tail so that the end thumped against her side.

Dog watched her a moment as she swished her tail. After a second, he began to shake wildly, a cloud of dust rising from his already dusty colored coat. "Well, running is fun. Oh! We could always go running sometime. It would be fun."

A grin spread across his face. "Run so fast the bugs won't be able to land on us. Come on! We can do it right now! We can play a game of chase! What do you say? Hm? Hm? Come on~" He danced about and looked at her with eager eyes.
