Here on a beach where the sun made the sand to hot for unprotected feet to walk, a young mare stood out. She was a blueish dark grey clashing on the whiteness of the sand. She was even someone who didn't even feel like she belonged. For Livi, the mare name, had never been to a beach before. She never felt inclined to her normal stopping grounds of the forest and plains held so much to discover she felt no need to venture to f from it. Well not till one day she heard a whispering of creatures like herself yet different could live in the water. Something as smart as her kind but blessed with the ability to breath under water. It was something she felt very hard pressed to believe. But something told her it was true. Maybe it was the fact that she knew many creatures existed that she had believed a lie before, like unicorns and butterfly like Soquili. But she had met both and knew they were true, so why not believe in these?
Livi looked hesitantly at the water. There was no way these water creatures would surface for her so she would have to go down for them. But she had never been in water any deeper then her chest and she was worried, no horrified, that she would make a mistake and never leave the water again. the only thing that pushed her to do so was the chance and hope to learn something new. She she held her breath and dove under just to pull her head back up seconds later. She flailed a bit before finding her footing. Her eyes bugging out and her breath short and sharp in her shock. Going under water was so different then just wading in it. She thought. Maybe I should wait a bit before trying again. She looked at the water that slowly dripped from her mane to the tip of her nose and blew out trying to ride her self of it.

What the heck was this one doing? Normally Rina didn't bother the beach going 'touristy' soqs that liked to play on the sand and in the shallow bits of the surf. But this one...this one had walked into the surf with her blanket still on her back, a terrified expression and far too much nerve. And then there was the fact that she clearly couldn't swim well. In fact, it was starting to make Rina worry. So she did the normal, for Rina, thing and poked her head where it didn't belong.
She swam up to the mare, yanked the blanket off the girls back, threw it around her neck and then yanked her tail for good measure. "You know, if you can't swim you shouldn't be out here." She said as she poked her head above water and focused her unnervingly red eyes on the mare. "The surf can be kinda strong if you don't have the muscle or the fins for it."

Still spluttering from her first encounter with deep water Livi didn't notice who had helped her or who was talking. so she didn't realize what she had gone to look for had actually found her. She shook her mane out still not looking at the slightly fishy head poking out from the water and said, "Thank you for the advice but I am trying to find something that can only be found under this water." She said slowly turning her head to look at the small seathi still not seeing the tail below the water. "Though I suppose you know stuff about th-" She had finally noticed the small tip of fin also poking out of the water. And after closer examination of the small mare, the tail. she gawked for a second not sure what to do. She had just found the thing she was about to risk her self to find something she didn't even know if she could find. she was so small as well. She thought for long seconds as to how best handle the situation before her curiosity got the best of her and she started to blurt. "OH GOSH! You're one of those sea creatures! A Seathi? Or are you something else? Maybe a Kelpi?" Her face had brightened at the realization of who she was talking to. "I've heard some things about your kind. How they actually live under the water and can breath like fish. Can you do all of that? Can you also breath our air? And based on your comment it seems you have fins that make you an ample swimmer. How fast of a swimmer are you? Faster then some fish? Perhaps even faster then a dolphin? Or are you just a faster swimmer then us land walkers? How do you swim? Your tail looks like a sea horse so I'm guessing you swim like them, but how does your hooves measure into that? Do they make it harder to swim or easier? Do you-" Livi stopped there and slightly flushed realizing she had again let her excitement get the best of her. "I'm sorry I should quiet now so you may answer my question."

Rina cocked a brow at the mare, then grinned and laughed. "Curious thing aren't you. But before I answer, you'd better at least get your hooves back into the shallower water. You look like you're having a terrible time out here." She turned toward shore and just expected the mare to follow. "Oh a good sun bathe would feel good right now, I don't usually indulge myself. Too many larger things around that can, and will, eat me. But, with you around, they should leave me alone." She dipped her head back under the water did two full 360 degree turns to gain momentum as she swam fast then popped out of the water, unfortunately leaving the blanket in the water, landing herself squarely in the sand above the surf. "Ah! There we go." She snuggled into the sand to enjoy the sun on one side and sighed. "Now, back to questions. I am a Seathi, the smallest of the water dwelling horses. As you can see, I'm quite a bit smaller than you. Only Seathi and Mer can actually breath water. But we have fish tails and only two legs so we are more like fish than our cousins the Kelpi and Nixie. I'm assuming you guessed that I can, in fact, breath air just fine. Swimming is about as natural as breathing. As for ability, if depends on the soquili. But in general, we seathi are pretty damn quick, seeing as we need to be able to escape sometimes. Most of us are blessed with a curious nature that gets us into trouble. As for the dolphin comment, they are very muscular and made for swimming, we are very much like dolphins, minus the strong tail fin. I can easily keep up with a dolphin. Though I've never done it for long, mostly out of lack of interest. I might know more about that if I had a dolphin familiar but I do not. And yes, I am absolutely faster in that water than you are any day." She paused for a minuet to remember which questions she had not answered yet. "Ah, swimming and how we do it. I use my entire body to swim. I have three fins and they're used for propulsion. The tail is used for balance and direction and the head and neck lead and direct. I swim more of less like a fish in an "S" motion. The hooves aren't a bother since they're tucked up while swimming and mostly used for stopping, eating, and of course waving." She again paused for a moment. "I think that was everything you asked."

Livi could feel her feet slowly sinking into to sand with each wave. She also noticed that it was becoming harder and harder to keep her head above water. All of this made her agree with the sea bond mare, she had to get back on land. She started to head for the sandy shore following the small mare before she remembered her blanket. She looked around trying to see if it was near by. Except when she did see it she didn't grab it right away. It wasn't a problem of it being to far away or hard to get. She was more thinking of just leaving it behind. Thinking it over and remembering how she got it, and how it reminded her of her only friend. She finally decided to take it with her, even though it could be cumbersome and hot. Picking it up with her teeth she gently places the sopping wet blanket over her back. she turned to head toward the shore just in time to see the sea mare flip out of the ocean and nicely onto the sand. Her awe only lasted a second before a large wave made her realize she was no place to be frozen with awe.
She started her trudge back to shore, the trip back hard then the trip out to sea. as she reached the shore she thought back to something the small Seathi had said while swimming back to shore. "Things eat you? Have you ever been attacked? How did you get away? Did you get injured? Has anyone you've known been eaten?" The last question may have seemed insensitive and cold but she didn't noticed. She was the type of person who went for what she wanted with out thinking. And right now she wanted answers. She barely even waited for the smaller mare to finish talking before going off on another group of questions.
"nixie are a speices that was part of the group of mini soquili that recently migrated to the area right? Have you ever actually met one? Are you like an amphibian? I know that amphibians can both swim well in water and breath out side of water. But you seem to be more fish since you can breath water as well as air. Are you a weird mix between a fish and amphibian? How long can you stay out of the water before needing to go back? How hard can you kick your hooves? Can you possibly use them to fight off the predators you spoke of before? What do you eat? fish or sea weed? Or maybe you eat something else? When I was in the water it tasted different then normal water, kind of salty why is that? How deep can you swim?" Livi suddenly realized she gave the dark Seathi way to many questions to answer and stopped asking. If the mare missed any she could just repeat herself.

Rina turned on her back and wiggled her sleek furred back into the sand, enjoying the rough feeling. She was using the sand to scratch an itch on her back at the mare fired more questions at her. She wondered how long she could stand it before she began firing back questions just to be annoying but preserved. "Yes, many things will willingly take a bite out of you if you're not careful. Water predators don't care if you're a horse of a fish especially when your small like me." Rind rolled and sat up to give the mare some idea of size, showing that Rina's head only came to Livi's knee. "Not all soquili are nice either. Some kelpies are carnivorous. But the answers to your question is no I've never been attacked persay. My problem is mostly the eternal curiosity that makes escape necessary periodically. I have never not escaped. Using my speed and small body to my advantage. No I have never known anyone that got eaten but i have heard stories and have had my own experiences with large teeth."
She flopped back into the sand and turned over to let the her other side catch sun. She whinnied in pleasure. "No I have never met a Nixie but it's hard not to notice when something new starts swimming about your territory. You hear stories and go to see. I saw them come, I just chose not to interact." She huffed and scowled when the mare implied she was like a frog. "I am not an amphibian. I am a horse. It is said the seathi are what would happen if seahorses weren't actually fish. We breed like seahorses. But I am a horse with fish like attributes. I have fur and fins. Than you." Rina sniffed, more than a tad disgusted by that comment. "Now, more questions. I breath air just fine, but without a back set of hooves, I do not move on land well. Potentially I could be out of water for a long time. But it would be like beaching a whale. No fun. I do not use my hooves for fighting. I swim away and hide. All seathi swim away and hide. We're small, we fit places others don't. What do you use your hooves for? I would assume I would be much the same." She rolled her eyes and again tried to remember which question she hadn't gotten to yet. "Ah! I eat seawead, water plants, fish, clams, muscles, crab, shrimp, lobster, other crustations and fruit when I can get it." She took a breath and turned on her back again. "There is a difference between a river and the sea. One is fresh and one is salt. I do not know why. I can swim as deep as I can see. Any deeper and it would be dangerous." She turned to watch the mares reactions. She was amused and begininng to get irritated at the rapid fire questioning. "You did not tell me your name."

Livi didn't notice, nor cared to notice, Rina's shrinking patience. She had questions, and she felt that this dark mare had the answers. "Small is easy to eat," she mumbled to her self as she wrote it down in her brain. She then stared at the small creature as she sized her self up to Livi's knees. "You are very small. I wonder if I could carry you on my back like some two-legger's ride other soquili." this she said more to her self then to Rina. she looks at her back and starts to theorize how that might work and if it would be comfortable. She soon came to the conclusion that Rina could climb onto her back then use her teeth to clench her mane and have her tail hang to the side. It might be a little unstable but t should work. She now wanted to try it, but more of her questions where being answered. And if she asked with out having her questions answered Livi was worried the girl would forget. So she went back to listening to her answers. "Ah Kelpi approach with caution..." Mumbles some more as her ears start to shift around. "Kelpi have four legs and a fish like tail yes? Can you swim faster then them? Or do they somehow have amazing swimming abilities?" She asks this forgetting for the moment about the other questions. When the lovely little mare doesn't answer it right away Livi just goes right back to listening to her talk waiting for when she answers the new questions popping from her head. Her hoof slowly displacing the sand as she waits.
Livi's eyes widened with surprise at the seathis words. "You chose not to interact? How could you ignore such a perfect opportunity to ask questions? to fill your mind with new knowledge! Such a one time event and you let the chance slip you by?!" She wasn't outraged just very, very surprised. She is normally so engrossed with her own hunt for knowledge she never stops to think that the same desire to know doesn't eat at everyone else. But soon she realizes that she may have offended the poor thing, maybe even enough she would leave with questions unanswered! Livi was quick to apologize after this thought. "Sorry. That was a rude outburst. Please continue." And again she is surprised, but this time more pleasantly surprised then shocked. "Oh so the males are the ones that keep the babies to term? That's right, right? I don't know much about marine life so I can't be sure."She didn't even notice that Rina had taken offense to the fish comment.
"I believe id I was put in the situation where I would need to fight I would use my hooves. Though I have to say if in that situation I think it would be most helpful to have a horn or wings to keep me to safe. Or maybe a fish tail." She said this smiling down at the little horse fish. "Seaweed, and muscles?" She started to mumble out what the mare had just said again cementing it to her mind. That's very riveting. How do you open and eat animals with such hard shells?" And then the talk about rivers and seas. "Oh yes that makes sense. That does. Hmm. I muse weather salty water has any health benefits. though you would probably not know that would you?" That might seem like Livi is some how belittling Rina some how with that last statement, but she's not. She just summarized that do to the fact that Rina lives in the sea she does not drink the water and if she did she has probably not drunken any clear water, so there for the small mare would not know.
Finally the answers come to a halt and she is faced with a question. Her name. she rarely gives it out. Not because she doesn't want people to know it, or because she thinks that answering such a question qas above her. She's just either never really been asked or forgets to answer. So she looks at the girl and thinks a bit. Trying to bring it to the front of her mind. "I believe my name is Livi." She finally said.
