It was here. It. With a capital i. The ribbon, the cutest one she'd seen in forever (okay, so really the cutest one she'd seen in days, but it felt like forever), long enough to fit her hairstyle and with the most beautiful, delicate lacework, as fantastic as she'd ever seen it. And was that... it was! Tiny little pearls sown in every so often gave it a classy but intriguing look. In Aggie's most educated opinion, anyway.
It was beautiful. It was gorgeous. It was destined to be hers, surely! All she needed to do was get into the store quick before anyone else saw it, but surely that wasn't going to a problem! Despite that thought, her steps were hurried and her movements slightly frantic as she entered the store and made her way over to the display to grab the ribbon. It was best not to take any chances, after all. Although her (admittedly quite quick) scan of the store didn't reveal anything other than a pair of middle-aged men and a woman in a stern business suit. But still there was a possibility of this going wrong somehow. Her life experiences had taught her that quite well.
She was so close! Aggie reached out her hand, intent on grabbing the ribbon, and then--

Penelope was not the type of girl to over accessorize, and this ribbon fit her in that regard. Still, she did understand the importance of accessories and liked them, to an extent. She just found that too many were so, so... gaudy. So bright. It was very, very hard to find something that she felt comfortable wearing. Her eyes roamed around the ribbon section with little hope of finding anything, but still... it was always worth a shot.
Then she saw it. A perfectly sized ribbon. Not too big, not too small. Lace and pearl, classic and easily paired with any variety of outfits. Dresses, skirts, nice pants, even jeans, if the blouse was dressier. Understated elegance.
She reached out only to have her fingers brush against the hand of someone else reaching for the same item. She withdrew her own hand, turning to face the other person with a sincere apology immediately on her lips, "I'm...I'm sorry, I didn't see you there! Were you... um, wanting this one?"
She pointed towards the ribbon she had been reaching for, hoping that the answer would be no. There were dozens of other ribbons there, afterall, and maybe they had just accidentally hit each other while reaching for two different ones. It was possible, but unlikely.

"Er, kinda." Yes, yes she was. But there was still a bit of politeness left in her, and Aggie didn't figure throwing herself at the ribbon with a frothing mouth going 'mine! Miiiiiine!!' would make her look very sane. "You t-too?" It was just a ribbon, anyway. She threw a longing look at said item before turning a hesitant smile on the other girl. She was pretty, black hair which looked stylish even if it wasn't nearly as long as Aggie's, kind looking eyes and a beauty mark on her face. "You can have it if you w-want." Because really, what was a ribbon compared to potentially making a friend? "It would look really nice on you," she offered. Quicksilver the Archangel

"Y-yes... I was reaching for that one too," the dark-haired girl replied, able to keep herself from wincing but only slightly. Oh dear. The one hair ribbon in the world that she wanted to pick up and buy immediately without a half hour of agonizing on how it would look and whether it was worth the money out of her allowance and now someone else wanted it too? "Oh, but it would look nice in your hair too!" Penelope objected, one hand curling on her skirt to keep it from grabbing at the ribbon in question. To take it when it was immediately offered would be uncouth. Besides, the girl in front of her had ribbons in her long, red hair already. They were probably her favored accessory, and it would be, well, shameful to just snatch it away from her. What to do? What to do? After a few moments of agonizing silence, she offered shyly, "Um... well, if you have the time, maybe we could look on the racks for another one? It might not be the only one like it. These displays always get a little mixed up with people taking the ribbons off to look at them."

Aggie's smile amped up a notch as the other girl returned the compliment. If there was one thing she was proud of, it was her hair. "T-thank you." She was about to tell the other girl that really, it was fine, she could take the ribbon - the red-head needed two ribbons to make a hairstyle, anyway, so it was no problem, when the black-haired girl offered another solution. "Yes!" Enthusiastic verging on desperate probably wasn't the way to go here. "I mean, er, yes, that would be lovely. It would be n-nice if we found some for both of us." The smile she offered the other girl was much less desperate than her earlier exclamation. And maybe they'd end up finding a ribbon that one of them liked more than this one and solve the problem. "I'm Aggie." Quicksilver the Archangel

"I'm sorry, I should have introduced myself sooner. I'm Penelope," came the nervous reply, followed by a smile of her own. "It's nice to meet you, Aggie." She quickly turned back to the racks of ribbons, a look of concentration on her face as she browsed. Lace. Pearls. Some had one. Some had the other. But were that any that had both? She flitted her fingers across the rack to better skim, but she had remembered her manners enough to start up a small conversation while they hunted, "Um... while we're looking... you seem like you like ribbons? If you like other kinds, I can help find them?"

"Oh, um, I like pretty much any kind." Her smile was sheepish. "N-not like, a ton of super neon colours on o-one ribbon, but, um, tasteful?" That was a pretty vague description, even she could tell. "Elegant. P-pretty. That sort of thing." Which really didn't elaborate much, but Aggie was floundering on how else to describe her taste in ribbons. "What about you? I can keep an eye out for something you m-might like, too." She sent a smile to Penelope before continuing her search of ribbons. Not this one, no, definitely not that one, maaaaybe this one... So far her search was coming up short. She pouted down at the green lace ribbon in her hand, not at all very impressed with the organization skills of this shop. Quicksilver the Archangel

Penelope listened carefully to each of the descriptive words that Aggie used. Neon was okay, but not too many on the ribbon. Pretty. Tasteful. Elegant. without anything more than a nod she began to pull of a couple off the rack. A matching pair of dark green velvet. A light blue with a delicate snowflake pattern--on sale, left over from Christmas no doubt. A bright, sunny yellow. Yet, as much as she looked, she could not find another ribbon to match the one that she yearned for. The only option at this point was to offer some of these and see if Aggie would prefer them to the one that she herself wanted, "Like these?" Then, almost as an afterthought, she realized that she had been asked what she liked, and she stuttted, "Oh! I, um, I like... classical, I guess? Jewel tones, things I can pair with a lot of outfits..."

Aggie considered the ribbons that Penelope had found. Hmm, the dark green velvet was nice, but it might be a bit too heavy? Although then again... She squinted at the ribbons, trying to make up her mind. She kinda... she kinda really liked the yellow one. It was so bright, you couldn't help but smile when you looked at it - but on the other hand it might be too bright, and not every yellow went with her hair colour. Well, good thing there was someone here to provide a second opinion! "Do you think the yellow is, um, too bright for my hair? It's really pretty, but it might be a bit much..." She listened intently as Penelope described her own taste. Aggie approved (ribbons are serious business, OK) - that was exactly the kind of ribbons that would look good on the other girl. In her opinion, anyway. "You h-have good taste!" She nodded vehemently, smiling. "I, um..." Would this be too forward? She bit her lip, looking faintly worried. "I t-think I have some ribbons at home that might suit you. Y-you're welcome to come over and, um, have a look. I'm not a creeper or anything like that!" Then again, who else but creepers invited people to their house so quickly after meeting them? But Aggie really did have some ribbons in Penelope's taste (she thought they'd be, anyway) that she hadn't used for ages, and really, it was just so nice to meet someone who appreciated hair pieces as much as she did. Still, she looked increasingly worried (and slightly nauseous) as she waited for an answer. Quicksilver the Archangel

Penelope waited to hear what Aggie thought of the ribbons--because, really, digging them out had all been for the other girl's sake more than anything, and she just wanted to help. At this point, the loss of the illustrious ribbon that she wanted was a secondary concern... although she certainly would have taken any opoorunity to grab it off the rack should the other girl decide she had to have these ribbons and not that ribbon. When her opinion was asked for, she was put in that awkward spot of not wanting to say the wrong thing, but she went with, as always, the truth, "Oh, I think the yellow would look really lovely. One that's a little more pastel might work better for certain situations, but... well, your hair is so vibrant that I think the pop of color works just fine." Then Aggie offered to take her to her home to look at ribbons. It was a strangely quick request, yes, and it made Penelope hesitate. The offer seemed reasonable on the surface, and if she had known Aggie from school or some other such function she might have taken her up on it. As it was she had to decline and did so with an apology, "I'm sorry, but I don't think... I mean we've only just met and it seems so sudden..." Then, a bit more brightly, she added, "But... but maybe we can meet somewhere later and can look at them together? I can give you my cell number and we can make plans? Grab something from the food court and look at the ribbons or... or some such? Just to get to know each other better. Because... because you seem really nice!"

Aggie beamed down at the yellow ribbon as Penelope said it'd look fine on her. "A-awesome! Well, in that case-" she quickly stepped back a few racks to grab the lace ribbon, "I think this belongs to you." She moved back to the black-haired girl and held out the ribbon. "Oh. Oh! T-that's um, totally fine, I m-mean, it was a bit of an odd suggestion." Que awkward laugh and shy fiddling with hair. "Really sorry." Sometimes Aggie wished she had a bit more of a leash on her mouth, that she actually thought things through before saying them. She'd just have to work more on that. But as Penelope continued speaking, the red-head brightened up considerably. "You seem really n-nice too!" She nodded vehemently, very much convinced of this. "And that sounds fine! Fantastic!" A friend! She'd made a friend! Or, well, she was on the road to making a friend, but whatever! The other girl thought she was nice and that was all she needed. "I'll try to stop myself before s-saying weird stuff again like, um, this..." Ahh bugger. "My mouth j-just runs away with me." She gave an apologetic smile to Penelope. Gribbing the small notepad and pencil she always kept in her pocket - just in case - she held it out to the other girl. "I-if you still want to give me your number, that is. I won't be a creeper and call you all the time or anything like that!" Quicksilver the Archangel

Penelope hesitated in taking the lace ribbon, but at this point it would just be the height of rudeness. So, she accepted it with a genuinely thankful smile, and she held it close for a moment before verbalizing her feelings, "Thank you... I... I'll wear it next time we meet, so that you can see how it looks. And... um..." More shy now, her voice lowered, "You know, you can, um... borrow it. Or... or if I find another one, I'll get it for you!" Now who was the one sounding a little like a creeper? The reserved girl waved her hands at Aggie's protests, "No, it's not.... it's not all that weird! I'm sorry, I don't mean... I mean, you should feel able to say whatever you say. I don't... I don't mind, really!" The act of writing down her number was a welcome distraction. Penelope took the notepad and pencil willingly, jotting down her number in clear, clean script before offering both of them back. "There you go! You can call me anytime, and I've got unlimited texts, so... so if you have text messages, too, we can communicate that way!"

"I'll look forward to seeing it on you then!" Aggie beamed happily. "I can wear the yellow ribbon then and we'll be ribbon friends!" She considered Penelope's offer. "Sure, and you could borrow some of mine, then, so it's like, insurance? But you d-don't need to get me a new one. Just show me all the awesome ribbons you buy so we can exclaim about how gorgeous they are together." The last part was said with a shy smile - but really, if the black-haired girl bought her a ribbon, then Aggie would have to get her one back and then it'd go on forever. And she really didn't have that kind of money right at the moment (it never occurred to her that she might be exaggerating just a tad bit about the ribbon exchange) - but giving Penelope something from her own collection was totally different. Totally. Mainly because she wouldn't have to spend money right now and a part of the collection was actually from various family members who'd remembered her hobby at the oddest of times and gotten her all sorts of ribbons. Some prettier than others, and some not pretty at all. But she'd never inflict those horrible ribbons on a nice person like Penelope. She wouldn't inflict them even on her worst enemy. "Thank you!" And really, Penelope was super nice! "Sure, OK! I do have texts, but um, my phone is at home right, so I'll send you a text when I get back so you can have my number too." Well, might as well make some small-talk while they were here. "Where do you go to school at?" How to make this not sound like a stalker finding her next victim's locations, hmm... "I, I go to DCU! I just transferred in, so this'll be my first semester there. I'm kinda nervous to be honest." Quicksilver the Archangel

Penelope began to walk towards the cash register while they spoke, and she smiled at Aggie's idea about the exchange. She wasn't sure she liked ribbons quite as much as the other girl did, but she did make it sound like fun! "Okay, that's what we'll do!" "Great, I'll wait for your text and--oh wow, DCU!" Now Penelope couldn't help but be a little awestruck, and she quickly explained, "Um, not that I don't think you could be there or anything, but that's where I hope to go when I graduate. I'm just a student at Crystal Academy right now. Starting university seems so exciting! May... may I ask what you're studying?"

"Crystal Academy!" As impressed as Penelope had been with DCU, so was Aggie with the exclusive girls' school. "That's really fancy. Not, um, in a bad way or anything, just wow, that's really cool!" Aggie fidgeted a bit, stalling before the cash register and looking shifty, "Um... I'm studying Geography. W-well, that's my major anyway, it's really a lot of math and science and stuff and yeah. But it's not as lame as it sounds! It's actually pretty nice b-because you get to learn a lot about people én masse and the patterns they kind of develop and, um. I'm in the physical Geography branch though, so it's more places and their structure and natural formations and all sorts of things and I'm kinda rambling so I'm just gonna stop now. Er." She held her silence for another awkward moment before venturing a question; "D-do you know what you want to study yet?" Quicksilver the Archangel
