 It wasn't often that Ecliptic was let out of her parent's sight to play, or at least her mothers - Equinox seemed quite up on the mischief that a filly could get into and quite good at keeping an eye on her and her siblings. But once in while.. usually when the bad behavior of one of the others drew her attention Ecliptic was able to scuttle off into the bush for some play time.
Prancing through the woods she hummed a merry tune - confident that she had put enough distance between herself and her family to be caught right away and yet close enough not to be all that worried about what she might run into. Finding a log in her path she hopped up on top of it with a pleased snort at the feat, quite proud of herself in the few moments before the rotten wood began to give way and she tumbled to the ground with a startled oomph.

 The family had taken a small trip away from their ocean side home and Aquitaine was thrilled to get another chance to explore the world that sat outside of her quiet home. She always wondered what all was out here but never ventured far from her home or her parents. But in times like this she was given a bit more freedom, though she was quite cautious given the unknown surroundings. So when her parents, after checking the area was safe, suggested that the foals go explore for a bit Aquitaine was thrilled. Though she had initially intended to explore with her brothers Aquitaine quickly realized they both wanted to explore alone, so she decided to do the same.
The grass tickled her legs as she made her way through the meadow towards the trees. Casting a glance back towards her parents, making sure they say which way she was going, Aquitaine ventured into the trees. Forests always intrigued her. There were forests near their beach home but they were much different than those found further inland, where the trees were larger and more tightly grown together. But even thick forests had plenty of paths that she could follow and once on one Aquitaine walked along it merrily. Her excitement and hooves came to a stop when she heard a sudden noise. What was that? Eyes wide the filly looked around, hoping it wasn't anything dangerous. When her parents didn't come running she was certain it was safe. But what had made that noise? Slowly the blue filly crept forward. "Hello?" She called out a bit hesitantly, wondering if it was such a good idea to announce her presence.

Well that certainly hadn't gone entirely to plan now had it? Ecliptic through to herself as she lay on the ground trying to catch her breath.Perhaps she ought to take better care when choosing landing spots like that in the future.Rolling onto her chest she thrust her front legs out and pulled herself up, giving a quick shake to remove the debris from her pelt before pausing at the sudden intrusion of another voice. It sounded you..and female..perhaps another foal was nearby?
Rather pleased with this possibility Ecplitic forgot about the log bits that were still stuck in her mane and trotted down the path towards the direction he had heard the voice from - it shouldn't be far..just around this corner maybe? speeding around the corner she almost ran smack into the strangest filly she had ever laid eyes on and had to skid to an awkward stop to keep from doing so. "Wow!" She exclaimed "Where did you come from?!"

Aquitaine let out a shriek of surprise as another filly came flying down the path and nearly ran into her. Had it not been for the other fillies fast reaction and her slightly sloppy sliding stop they likely would have came crashing down onto the ground together. Once her eyes opened again, she had closed them in the fear of a crash, Aquitaine looked at the other foal. She was blue, much like her own coat but was covered in spots. With the surprise of the fillies sudden appearance passing Aquitaine could concentrate on the present. "Oh...well I came from over there." She motioned back towards the way she had came from the meadow. "My family is out in the meadow, we are just visiting."
There was a slight pause as she looked the other filly over, noticing her beautiful purple eyes. She hadn't expected to run into another foal out here but certainly wouldn't turn down the chance to have a temporary playmate and friend. "My name is Aquitaine." She told the other filly proudly. "What's yours? Are you from around here?" Not being familiar with the area Aquitaine wasn't sure if there were any herds or families that lived here or if this filly and her family was just passing through like her own.

"The meadow huh?" Ecliptic looked through the trees as though she could spot it - which was impossible given the number of trees in the way. "The meadow is kind of boring, my mother takes us there all the time" She told the other filly with a slight rolling of her eyes.
"I'm Ecliptic, our family lives near here but I snuck away for a little while" She shared, openly studying the other filly - Aquitane looked way different then any other foal or Soquili that she had ever seen. "Did something eat the tip of your tail?" She finally asked - it was really the only reason she could come up with for the other fillies tail to be bald - the horns were unusual too but they didn't stand out quite as much as the long bald tail.

Her gaze followed the other fillies towards the direction that the meadow was in. "Well, I guess it's kind of boring." She didn't think it truly was through. "I don't get to see meadows all that often, I live by the ocean." Aquitaine went on to explain. Many Soquili lived in or near meadows so perhaps to those that lived near them at all times they would see dull and boring, where as for her seeing a sea of green as opposed to a sea of water, was quite interesting. Plus she could travel much further in a meadow as opposed to in the ocean where she could only swim so far from the shore before she was in danger of being swept out to sea.
The question caught Aquitaine off guard. No one had ever asked her about her tail. True she knew it was different from that of her parents or brothers but it had never come up in conversation. Not that she really cared about the difference, daddy had told her it made her special and unique so Aquitaine was happy to have such a different tail. But the question made her wonder, if only for the slightest moment, if having a different tail was truly a good thing? Would others thing the end had been bit off by some creature? She glanced at her tail for a moment then back at Ecliptic. "No...it's always been like that. Daddy says it's special." She added on, giving her head a firm nod to confirm just that.

Ecliptic pondered the other filly's answer for a little bit, looking dubiously at the tail but hey it wasn't her tail so who cared really if it was like that naturally or not. Giving a little shake of her mane to rid the remaining log debris out of it she gave the other filly a cheerful look "Okay...do you want to play? I've never been to the ocean but I know where there is a stream if you want to go swimming or this pond of mud that will suck things down into it - it's fun to throw twigs and stuff in and watch it sink..or.." Pausing she thought a little bit for something else the other filly might find interesting.
"...Or theres some caves with shiny rocks in them!" She finally offered as a last idea, she couldn't really think of anything else interesting in the area. "Whats your daddy like? Mine has a cat skin attached to him and says he can turn into a cat when he wants too - I've never seen him do it though"

"Yeah let's play." It wasn't often Aquitaine had someone to play with other than her brothers, and the fact this filly was friendly and wanted to play was extra inviting. She was close enough to where her parents were that she could call out to them if needed and that made her feel safe. And it seemed like there were plenty of options for play. The stream could be fun but since she swam a lot it would be nice to do something different, mud that sucked in twigs could be fun as well...and then the new of a cave with shiny rocks really caught her attention. "A cave? That could be fun." There weren't caves where she came from, further down the beach there was a few caves but she had never ventured to go see them. Her father had said they were homes to other Soquili and so she couldn't exactly go poking about without permission.
"No way!" She almost couldn't believe it, but she also didn't think it was a lie. Something in the back of her mind tugged at her, trying to figure out where she had heard about Soquili changing into other animals. She knew it existed but she couldn't quite recall what they were. "My daddy sure can't do that. He's a knight." She told Ecliptic proudly. "And he is teaching me and my brothers how to be knights as well. I'm also learning how to be a dancer, like my mom, oh she is so beautiful when she dances!" Aquitaine was proud of her parents for what they did and what they taught her, she wanted nothing more than to follow in both of their footsteps.

"Alright, lets go to the cave!" Ecliptic agreed, turning and bounding off, sure that the other filly would follow her, Tipping her ears back so that she could hear the other fillies comments. "Way" Ecliptic told her with a nod and a giggle, it was always funny to see how other foals reacted when she told them that - adults, not so much, they tended to run off and leave, though she wasn't entirely sure why.
Slowing down so that she could trot along side the other filly and actually carry on a conversation Ecliptic gave the other filly a quizzical looks "A Knight How can he teach you how to be dark and shadowy? That only happens when the sun goes down!" She stated, quite sure that Aquitaine had made some sort of mistake and was actually being taught to be something else. "I've never danced before" She told the other filly "Can you teach me?" Suddenly somewhat excited to try something new, of course she wasn't nearly as dainty looking as Aquitaine seemed to be, she had inherited her fathers stockier form but ..she was willing to give it a go.

Trotting along side Ecliptic Aquitaine looked over at her new friend suddenly, her jaw slack for a moment before she burst into laughter. "Not that kind of night!" She explained once her laughter had died down a bit. "A knight is someone who rights wrongs, fights evil, saves fair maidens and upholds a code of honor." At least that's what father had told her during some of their training, however there was so much more to being a knight and it would take a long time before Aquitaine had all the knowledge her father could pass down to her. But she had to start somewhere and much like learning dance from her mother, one had to start with the basics in order to learn the things that were more advanced.
"Sure!" It would be great to share dancing with someone. Her brothers thought it was too sissy for them to dry, though she was able to convince them every now and then to dance with her, of course it was always done in a secluded meadow so no one would see them. "I'm still learning but I can show you some moves." Aquitaine trotting ahead, making sure there was space between her and Ecliptic. Her movements were smooth for the most part as she pranced and tossed her head, then she reared up, balancing on her hind legs before pushing off and somewhat clumsily, because she was still working on this part, spun in the air, kicking out her hind legs before landing and looking back at Ecliptic. "That's what mother is teaching me to do now. I still need some more practice with it.

Ecliptic pondered the other fillies answer for a few moments before snorting and shaking her head a bit "Well why don't they call it something more obvious then like..Saver or Wrongfighter or..I dunno something not so confusing" Really adults could be so difficult sometimes, making up obscure names like that was just one more example of them making everything harder then it really had to be. "But it sounds like a pretty neat thing to be none the less" She agreed.
She had to skid to a halt to watch the filly do her dance move..it was awesome! Of course she didn't notice the clumsy take off since she had nothing else to compare it to. "That looks super hard" She told the other filly "How long did it take you to learn?" A part of her wanted to try..but she was pretty sure she'd just fall on her butt again. Still..it was awfully tempting.

Aquitaine couldn't help but let out a light laugh. "I don't know. Maybe knights came from the night at first, protecting others from the shadows so they could move without being seen by evil." She gave her shoulders a shrug. This proved that she didn't know everything yet, certainly she would need to ask her father more about the origins of knights and why they were called that. "I'm sure my father would know why they are called that and not Wrongfighters." In Aquitaine's eyes her father knew everything, especially about being a knight but also about other things in the world, it's why she loved spending her time with him to learn about everything, plus she was daddy's little princess so he always had time for her.
It felt so good to share dancing with someone who never danced before. It would be great if Ecliptic could be taught to dance as well. "It's pretty hard, but with enough practice anyone can do it really." She shook her head a bit. "I've been practicing that move for a couple of weeks now, the end part is the hardest." Aquitaine admitted. "Here's an easy one!" She really wanted Ecliptic to try dancing so using a less advanced move was certainly the ticket. She began prancing, stepping high, her neck arched proudly - this of course worked best if one had a long mane to accentuate the move - and then she began move in a circle, her back feet remaining in one spot as possible while her front half pivoted. Occasionally she would toss her head or kick one of her front legs higher. "Try it!" She called over to Ecliptic, slowing down so the filly could follow her moves easily.

"You should ask him, then maybe the next time your here you can tell me - I bet it's an interesting story." Ecliptic stated with a sincere edge to her tone, these Knights seemed like an interesting life path to think about - imagine running about the world, seeing all the different places and fighting evil. It would be so exciting.
However the pull of learning to dance proved to be more exciting at the moment and furrowing her brow Ecliptic focused on Aquitaine's moves with intense concentration. At Aquitaine's encouragement she walked into the clearing to give it a try herself, arching her neck and picking her knees up as high as she could and although she didn't look quite as graceful as the more dainty filly it was fun none the less and she felt rather pretty when she did it. She followed the steps as best as she could and while she missed a couple or was a bit late in getting others these easier steps were not to hard to follow. "This is fun!"

"Definitely. I want to know why they are called knights now. And of course I'll make sure to come back and tell you why." She came to a stop, turning to look at her new friend. The question was, would she be able to come back her and tell Ecliptic why knights were called knights and not something else? Her family didn't leave the beach all that often and she wasn't old enough to be wandering around herself to find her friend and tell her these things. Well, she would find Ecliptic one day Aquitaine promised herself, and tell her the answer then. It may be weeks or months before that happened if she wasn't able to find out the answer from her father right away and come back to tell Ecliptic before they headed home but she would tell her as soon as possible.
Aquitaine cheered at Ecliptic. "You're doing so good!" It wasn't perfect but then again Aquitaine had not been perfect when she first started dancing. And even now there were times she she missed a step or did it incorrectly. Her mother had told her it was okay to make mistakes from time to time because that was what made learning what it was but most importantly that no one was perfect to begin with, one had to work to not only reach perfection but to maintain it as well. "If you kept practicing you'll be able to do ti perfectly soon." And she wasn't saying that just to make Ecliptic feel better, it was the truth, if the filly stuck with it then there was a chance she could be a very good dancer in the end.

"Great!" Ecliptic called out enthusiastically as she kept trying the dance steps, it was just way to much fun not to try and Ecliptic had always been a little bit of a perfectionist, once she learned something new she rarely stopped practicing until she got it right. "I can't wait to find out why." Of course she had no clue that Aquitaine technically lived far away and was only visiting and it didn't really enter into her mind to ask either.
Pausing in her dance practice she beamed at the other filly when she told her she was doing well "I wonder if anyone in my herd can dance, I've never asked or seen them but someone must know, maybe they can teach me some more things." It was a nice thought but Ecliptic considered her herd as a bit well...old fashioned. None of them could probably dance and if they did then they probably did some old dull steps. "Can you show me some other steps? Just in case they don't?" She asked the other filly.
