When the sun set on Clubs, it wasn't the end of light. In fact, Summerland was rigged so that the whole city lit up like a lightning bug might in the darkness; Clubs was the enemy of sleep, the enemy of shadow. Brightness as far as the eye could see. Not a warm light, not like the soft glow of Hearts which hinted at banquets and luxury, and not the welcoming hearth-heat of fires lit for weary travelers in Diamonds. A cool light that was often many colours, flashing, or otherwise showy.
And Gauvain loved it all. He wasn't usually allowed up so late, though. Tonight, he was camped out in the back, waiting for Thuri to get off work. Tommy was in Diamonds buying something (he hadn't told Thuri even that much; Thuri thought he was just visiting some friends), so Gauvain was inconsolable if Thuri wasn't nearby at all times. Thuri didn't mind, since Gauvain often visited him at work and stayed out of the way, but at the same time, the Swanna's bedtime had arrived hours ago.
Gauvain had napped, but he was definitely not going to stay asleep for long. He tucked his little white wings against his back neatly, and hid his metal helm on his pillow, stuffing some rolled up blankets under his duvet so it looked like he was asleep in the bed. "Not sleepy any more," Gauvain murmured. He stepped out into the night, sun dipping below the horizon, and stretched. He was just getting some air before he went to run around the casino, hiding from Thuri. He didn't expect anyone his age to be out right now, much less at the casino, but... was that ... another infant, walking around? Gauvain walked right up, smiling, preparing to introduce himself if he was right.
Gauvain loved new friends.

It was natural for Isaac to be found wandering about. He had recently arrived at Henrik's house, and already he had managed to rip curtains off the walls, slash the wallpaper, cut Henrik (though he had to admit it was completely by accident), and break almost every dish in the house. He didn't want here. He wanted home. He wanted back to the man he hatched with, but that man no longer loved him. So here he was, or, here he lived, with Henrik.
He wanted to scream, and that was why he took walks. It was literally so he could scream as loud as he wanted, hoping to burst his own lungs. He was tired, he was sad, he was lonely.
And so he walked. It didn't take long for Isaac to grow tired, he had already expended so much energy this evening. His body tensed when a boy walked up to him, tensing further when he realized he had wandered off to a place that was forbidden to him. If Henrik found out.... who gave a s**t, anyway?!
Head raising, the boy observed the other, and slowly, quietly, he tilted his head, sucking on his teeth before finally speaking. "Who are ya?"

Unlike Isaac's troubled infancy, though Gauvain would not know it was the case, Gauvain loved seeing his fathers and had never really been separated from them, not even for a weekend. Like Isaac, however, Gauvain did not want his father to catch him just this moment. Being caught would mean having to go to bed, and Gauvain wanted to play with the slot machines. At night, the lights shone brightest, though obviously inside the casino it was always ambiently lit.
Gauvain was still a little sleepy, but hardly tired, and never lonely; Gauvain usually just sought out someone to talk to or play with when he felt as though he was alone, because pretty much none of the casino employees failed to recognize him by this point, and they wouldn't dare say no to his adorable face and those bright blue eyes. Too bad the way he had been raised left him fairly soft in terms of his actual drive to fight, protect himself, or remain out of harm's way. It lent him a false sense of invincibility, having never really been tried. Apart from that one time he'd picked a fight with Jace, not knowing who he was.
And lost, brutally. However, it was not Jace he'd run into, it was a Vaporeon infant. "I am Gauvain, one day I will be Sir Gauvain!" Gauvain smiled beautifically and bowed to the boy. Without his gold helm on, Gauvain felt very light, as if he could float away at any second. "My daddy's working in the casino right now," he started, but leaned in conspiratorially to add: "but I don't want to go to sleep yet!"
"Whatcha doin' out so late, ummm...?" Gauvain did not know his name, and this was the least rude way he could think of asking.

The bow caught him off guard, hands becoming fists immediately, taking a step back and tensing. "Tch!" It was clear he expected the quick movement to be an attack, relaxing slowly when nothing came of it. He leaned backwards when the boy, apparently named Gauvain (He would surely forget this soon) leaned towards him, eyes widening in surprise. The s**t was this boys problem, getting so close? Was he taunting or mocking Isaac? Was he going to hurt him? The Vaporeon's tail lashed, suspiciously viewing the boy with narrowed eyes.
Red, suspicious eyes watched Gauvain before responding. He seemed on edge, and he was. However, curiosity peeked. A casino? His daddy's worked there? In the place of lights and sounds? In the place forbidden to him? He was hungry to know what was inside, and hungry to disobey, as always. Suddenly, he wasn't glaring at the other anymore, instead tilting his head and biting his bottom lip, contemplating. Finally, he responded.
"The casino? What's it like?" He almost forgot to answer the last question, stumbling with his words briefly as he quickly added his response. "Runnin' away from home. Names Isaac." He assumed the "ummm" meant the request of a name, though he rather the other had asked. He was just learning how to figure things out without it being direct or obvious, a skill Henrik was trying to hammer into him.

Gauvain was fairly oblivious to the fact that Isaac had expected his motion to be hostile. In fact, he still smiled beautifically, occasionally blinking his bright blue eyes. The gold flecks caught the dimmed light and made them shimmer occasionally. He didn't plan to taunt, mock or insult the Vaporeon-- in fact, Gauvain breezed right by any edge of discomfort the boy was clearly displaying. He just kept on smiling.
"It is warm, and full of the sound of coins, and very friendly people!" Gauvain tried to explain. Naturally, since Thuri worked ther, the other strippers were quite kind to the young Swanna. The casino was his playground. He didn't really understand why it was the way it was, and he wouldn't until he was older, but he was happy to be oblivious.
At least he wasn't in a tantrum mood right now, after all.
"Why would you run away from home?" Gauvain asked, his face still bright, flexing his white wings out. "Isaac! Isaac... hmm... wanna come inside?" Gauvain offered, running one tiny hand through his long hair idly as he smiled and waited to see if the boy would maybe evade sleep a bit longer with him. "While you decide where you are going to run to, of course," Gauvain added.

That smile was creeping him the hell out. Who the hell smiled that much? Suspicion flickered in his eyes, tail lashing violently as he, once again, almost snapped at the other. However, that smile seemed honest, genuinely given to the water type as if Isaac deserved the kindness. He twitched backwards, head cocking to the side at the explanation given to him. Nice people? Even to a child like him? He didn't look half as fancy as this boy before him.... fancy pants. No. He knew the boys name now, Gauvain. Fancy Pants Gauvain.... He needed to stop doing that.
The question caught him off guard, head raising and red eyes blinking at the other. Why wouldn't someone run away from home?
"Tryin' to find my dad." Childish as always, Isaac wanted the man before Henrik. He wanted to prove he wasn't abandoned, that it was all a mistake. That he wasn't just handed off to Henrik because no one else wanted him. He wanted to prove he was wanted and was missed... right? He wasn't unwanted..... he wasn't just a thing to hand off.... he wasn't.... Stop.
He was getting emotional, he needed to cut that out. His tail flicked lazily at the second and then third comment, watching the other play with his hair. He didn't know, did he? He wasn't allowed in there... that was enough to entice his curiosity! Course he wanted to go!
"Yea. Sure!" Finally, he was acting friendlier, a crooked grin spreading across his face in excitement. He was going to go into the place full of lights!
