It was irresistible. She'd already managed to get her a** kicked by a Negaverser and yet Vanadis just couldn't leave henshining well enough alone. Truthfully, she'd tried - for about a day and a half she'd staunchly resisted powering up, and the old, familiar guilt that had eaten at her back in Denmark had returned. Alright, so she was a totally crap senshi, but that didn't mean she couldn't help someone. A civilian could be in trouble out there right at this very moment and she might be able to help!

If nothing else, Vanadis had thought, she could at least provide enough distraction for the attacker to leave the victim alone long enough for said victim to escape. Probably. Maybe. Okay, possibly - there was no guarantee that said attacker (probably another Negaverse weirdo, she'd bet) wouldn't just floor her in two seconds and go back to what they were doing. With her luck, that was exactly what would happen.

But she wouldn't get better just by sitting around and she definitely couldn't help anyone by sticking her head in the sand and pretending that nothing was happening. She was a crap senshi, but she had morals, and surely if she worked hard enough at it eventually something would give.

She was kinda afraid it was going to be her, though.

So tonight she thought she'd just lounge around the park - it was more well-lit than the alley she'd last encountered a Negaverser in, anyway, and that had to count for something. Currently she'd made the highest tree she could find into her outpost; sitting on a limb, swinging her legs and trying to spot any potential dangers before they spotted her - or worse, spotted a civilian.

Remarque did not have to see the Senshi to know she was there—which was fortunate, as she currently had a fantastic hiding place. Remarque had been enjoying a leisurely walk in the park with his eyes very much on he horizon, and hadn’t paid too much mind to the energy signature in the area until it was practically right in front of him.

His mind had been wandering, but he’d had a lot to think about. It was unlike him to have been completely blind to where he was and why he was there, so when he realized that he had allowed himself to wander into to the presence of anyone—let alone a white moon Senshi—he was quick to play it off.

His expression remained casual and indifferent, and he lifted his hand to his face to inspect his nails as he slowed and came to a stop. A quick scan of the area told him that no one was in plain sight—and unless they were keen to hide in bushes, that left only the trees. Which, he’d learned in recent months, were actually a prime location to climb up into and take a braek. Not that he’d been inclined to do so; he liked his feet firmly planted on the ground, thank you very much.

Still, he couldn’t be entirely certain, and figured the best thing to do was lure this stranger out.

“…Seems to be a bit too nice of an evening to spend it hiding,” he noted, loud enough to be heard and yet soft enough not to be intimidating. He’d leave out the intimidation until he found out who he was dealing with.

It'd been pretty clear as it got closer that the approaching energy signature wasn't a civilian. Well, not that there'd really been any doubt; whoever it was had a good bit bigger signature than Vanadis herself, that was for sure, and she'd never actually managed to sense a civilian, so all in all that possibility had been out.

Admittedly, she'd waffled. What to do? It - or he, as she could see now that he was properly in sight - didn't seem aggressive, wasn't holding any civilians hostage and didn't look to be on the prowl in any kind of way (as far as she could judge from up here). In fact, now that he was coming closer, he just looked like an ordinary person going out for a walk.

In their powered state. Right...

She'd probably have to investigate, drat it all. But what could she do? She was pretty aware that there was no way she was going to be able to hold up in a fight against this person, that much was clear.

And now she knew that he knew that she was definitely there. Oh bugger it all. Jumping off her branch wasn't nearly as hard as getting up there had been, and once on the ground, Vanadis patted down any wrinkles that might have appeared in her clothing.

Honestly, she was just trying to look casual. It wasn't working - her movements were jerky and the look in her eyes bordered desperation. She was so going to get her a** kicked, oh no...

"I wasn't hiding! I was, um, playing the t-tactical advantage to my favour." She was attempting to look defiant in the face of certain death, but mostly she just managed to look miserable.

Remarque lowered the hand he had been inspecting, placing it casually on his hip as he looked at the Senshi in front of him. She looked to be even less of a threat than he’d expected, and didn’t seem to present an ounce of hostility.

“Oh. My mistake, then,” he said, offering an almost sweet smile. “I just never know with you senshi. Half the time you’re not up to anything, and half the time you’re trying to kill me. Tell me, is there ever anything interesting up in those trees? I’ve always suspected it must get boring sitting up there all by yourself. Though, perhaps I’m biased. I’d much rather prefer to be grounded. Sailor Remarque,” he introduced, apparently intent on keeping this casual until she gave him a reason to do otherwise. “Dark Mirror Senshi of Puppetry. And you are..?”

"Oh, I feel much the s-same with all these Negaversers." Que awkward laugh. He wasn't a Negaverser, at least she didn't think, but he was definitely something.

"Um no, not really. Just... leaves and stuff. I did pass an abandoned bird's nest on the way up." She added helpfully. She still considered it one of her smarter ideas; not passing the bird's nest, that is, but making her vantage point that high up.

"Dark whatsits who?" Vanadis blinked, looking baffled. A what? She was pretty sure he'd said senshi there, but the rest of it was just plain gibberish. "I'm Vanadis. Er, Senshi of Wards."

Remarque raised a brow at this. A dark whatsits? Well, hell, everyone ought to know about Dark Mirror Senshi right now; it wasn’t like they’d been hiding under a rock for the past few months. Well. Some of them might have been, but that was still no excuse.

“It is a pleasure, Vanadis,” he said, continuing with his charm despite his disbelief that she wouldn’t have at least heard of their kind. Certainly the Dark Mirrors were small, but they weren't that new--at least, not anymore.

But...if no one of the white moon had been there to corrupt her opinion of them, that made her a prime candidate to discuss them with. He wouldn't have to deal with any preconceived notions imprinted on her that they were 'evil'.

“No one…has bothered to inform you of the Dark Mirror Court? Are you relatively new at this,” he gestured towards her garb, “whole thing? Or have you just simply been sheltered?”

"Ahaha, it's not much that I'm, um, new, because I've kinda been a senshi for a while now? Like two and a half years or so? S-somewhere around that.

"But I guess you could say I've been kind of sheltered? I, uh..." She trailed off, looking quite ashamed, "I was actually abroad for most of the time. I just came back. Two years away."

She scratched her arm and laughed awkwardly, "I guess I've missed a lot of stuff going on in the meantime, huh?"

Instead of outright judging her, Remarque just nodded. Of course, he wouldn’t think to abandon his duties to the Court. It wasn’t just that he was driven by their cause, but there was a certain sort of power—a certain luxury that Remarque had that Jett Draven never would. Powered, he could do things that social constructs barred. Powered, he could do things that normal people could only dream of.

“That’s a long time to be away from home,” he mused. “I suppose you’ve missed a lot.”

But two years was a lot of time. She’d missed things that had happened well before he’d ever been awakened by Ares. “But you came back. And you’re powered up, now. That has to count for something, don’t you think?”

It felt like a lifetime ago that she'd left DC. Even though she'd only seen and learned so little since she came back, it still felt like everything had changed; like someone had swept the rug from out under her and no matter how hard she worked she couldn't quite find her footing again. It was, to be honest, more annoying than anything else. But Vanadis was a hard worker, and she'd keep working at this until she got it - she just kinda wished that someone would give her a manual or something to go from. That'd be really helpful just about now.

"I guess so. It just-- it just feels like I've failed, you know? Like I've let everyone down, which is silly because the only person who was actually counting on me to do this was a really grumpy, talking cat and she didn't seem to have much faith in me at all, anyway." Her features were drawn. "I guess maybe I just let myself down?"

Remarque watched her carefully, listening to her words and considering them. “Or perhaps you’d merely been lead astray and that was life’s little way of trying to put you on the right path again?” he suggested. “You should stop thinking about it as a failure and instead focus on the good. The White Moon has dabbled in a load of nefarious activities in the past year. People died because of them. Because of their ignorance and pigheadedness. But you were spared from that. You do not bare the same blame as many other senshi now do. And you have a chance to fix things. To make things right again. Your time away has left you—hopefully—oblivious to the brain washing many of your kind have been subjected to. So there is still time for you to make things right. To make the decisions that will define you, not only as a human being, but as either a blessing or a plague on this planet.”

He allowed a pause for emphasis, and then continued, “The Dark Mirror Court could help you find your way.”

"They did?" She blinked; Vanadis hadn't heard about the White Moon being involved in anything bad while she was gone, but then again, she hadn't heard anything about what'd been going on while she was gone, so she supposed they could've been. She was still a bit skeptic, though.

"Wait... brain washing? I'm, um, a bit lost here." She fiddled with her skirt. "What exactly went on?"

She waited patiently during his dramatic pause. "Um, that'd be nice, but uh, I... don't really know what that is? I mean, I know you're a part of it, obviously, because you introduced yourself that way but I don't really know anything about it, and my dad always say you shouldn't go with strangers, so, um." And they had 'Dark' in their name. That was a bit ominous, right?

“That’s all right,” Remarque reassured. Though the court wasn’t particularly new, it was still small—and if Vanadis had been gone for so long, he could forgive her for not knowing of them. “We are merely a group of senshi who follow Ares in her endeavor to clarify the true path of senshi and free them of the oppression established by your fabled Moon Princess.”

He crossed his arms over his chest, seeming to take a more comfortable stance. “The one who has manipulated so many to follow her. Most to their deaths. Our goal is to rule our own fate. To stop this war. To save this world.”

Remarque shrugged slightly. “But there are those out there that would paint us out to be bloodthirsty villains.”

He briefly considered Leto and Requiem’s display during the strike and could understand where they got that impression, however he hoped that there would be a time when such display of violence could be overlooked and smoothed over.

“…Simply because they do not wish to look in the mirror and face their own flaws.”

"Oh." She considered his words; that seemed pretty reasonable. She'd never really thought of the Moon Princess as oppressing people, but then again, she hadn't thought of the Moon Princess much at all.

To be truthful, she wasn't even aware that the Moon Princess had been doing anything. "Wait, so does that mean she's been found? The Moon Princess, I mean? Because last time I was here she was kind of, um, fabled. I might have thought she was a bit imaginary for a while there." She looked momentarily ashamed of this.

“Found? No, not that I know of. She’s still in hiding. Leaving the rest of the White Moon to suffer for her deception. She makes for a very poor queen to begin with, though. Honestly, I don’t know why the White Moon has persisted in idolizing her for so long. If I were you, I would resent the woman. She hasn’t showed up. She hasn’t offered words of guidance, hasn’t offered her hand to help you fight. It’s disappointing, and unfair. And the senshi’s blind faith in her disgusts me. She doesn’t deserve such loyal followers. Especially when she has done nothing but condemn them. Do you even know what it is she has your lot fighting for? I mean, supposedly, at least,” he said in a far more conversational tone. “Or—rather. What are you fighting for? As a White Moon Senshi. What do you see your purpose to be, your goals?”

"But maybe she doesn't know who she is? I mean, at least with senshi, it's not like anyone t-tells you before one day there's a grumpy cat ordering you to fight the good fight." So maybe it'd be the same for the Moon Princess; at least, that was what Vanadis had always thought on the matter. If he was right and the Princess really was just lying in wait somewhere and watching them fight, well, she guess that would make their leader kind of a mean person.

But his question gave her thought. What was she fighting for? All she'd been told, really, was to fight bad guys, and that wasn't much to go on at all. "I'm, um, fighting evil?" It sounded hesitant and more like a question than a confident statement. "I'm saving civilians from getting their starseed stolen! Or getting hurt, or maimed, or k-killed." This she was more confident in; saving people was a tangible goal, something easier to understand than whatever else lofty ideals might be attached to being a senshi.

"I think that's really all there is to it. T-that I know of, anyway."
