Some people would find it odd to enter the Great Hall and see an owl trying to crawl onto the head of a blonde-haired girl. Actually, most would find this odd except for maybe that girl. For Eleanor, it was normal for Miller to pester her for attention. She did her best to ignore him while she tried to respond to mail from her parents.

Soon, though, she had to nudge him off. "I am not your nest, you silly bird! You'll get treats when I'm done." In Ellie's mind, her voice was loud and commanding, but to anyone else it would be barely above the average speaking tone. The owl looked predictably unfettered. He had delivered mail and would be rewarded for it now, darnit!

In essence, it was a silly situation for all involved.

User ImageJericho yawned as he made his way into the Great Hall, his eyelids still heavy from the nap he'd just taken. His body seemed to have somehow adapted to his short naps throughout the day and adjusted so that he woke up when he needed to. Other than bathroom breaks, this included class schedules, last-minute studying, and - as was the case this time - for meals.

Thus he wasn't quite sure that he was seeing properly when he entered the hall through the large, open doors and noticed an owl attempting to climb a girl's head. He was still staring as he approached his house table, perhaps too drowsy or just plain ignorant to realize he was being rude. Without a word, he took a seat next to the girl, regarding her as well as her bird while she quietly scolded it.

Jeri blinked his large grey eyes and looked from student to owl and back again. It was a very lovely creature with contrasting dark and light feathers. The Hufflepuff boy thought it rather suited its owner and matched her well. It seemed safe to assume that the bird was pestering her for attention rather than out of dislike. He lightly reached out to tap the girl on the shoulder.

"May I help?" he asked gently, gesturing to the bird. Perhaps, if both owl and girl would allow him, he could hold and maybe feed the animal while its owner finished her letter. Jericho had always been fascinated with owls. He hoped to get his own one day.

Something touched her shoulder for only a moment, something certainly softer than a bird's claw. She turned her head to see what it could possibly be.

"O-oh, um..." Eleanor was immediately distracted by this new boy. Being a fellow Hufflepuff, she had to have seen him at some point, and yet she was amazed by his white hair and gray eyes. She would certainly remember such features!

Miller, on his part, started squawking the best he could at this new person. Intruder! Interloper! Distracter from his treats! But...was that? Could it be? COTTON? Silenced, he tilted his head and blinked at the human and its hair, very unsure but interested. All the owl could do was hop over and try to find out.

Ellie quickly found herself free, but her grumpy owl was now on the boy with what seemed to be the intent of pecking at his head. She knew Miller didn't like other people much; the best anyone else could get was patting him if he got a treat out of it, but now it looked like he was on the attack.

"Miller! No! Bad bird! I'm so sorry!" She quickly tried to get the heterochromatic owl off of her housemate.

That was unexpected. It hadn't entirely been what Jeri had had in mind, but hey, if the owl was going to leave his owner be and come to him so easily, who was he to complain? Besides, he loved owls.

He smiled a little as he realized his hair in its current state was just about as nest-like as it could get. However, the boy was completely oblivious to the idea that the owl would have transferred over simply to attack the source of the 'distraction' directly. He certainly didn't expect to get pecked.

Realizing that Ellie was upset by her familiar's actions towards him now rather than towards her, Jericho tried to reassure the girl, putting his hands up while keeping his head very still so as not to disturb Miller.

"No, no," he said with a good-natured smile, "It's fine." Even if the bird did peck him a little, it couldn't have been much worse than the hair-pulling his siblings did when he used to give them piggy-back rides, could it?

As far as Ellie was concerned, it was not fine. She had lost control of her bird, who was doing who-knew-what to the boy's hair, and an attack like that might as well have been Eleanor doing such a thing herself. And such an action was very rude. "I'm sorry, I'm so, so sorry..." she said, obviously distressed but was held back by Jericho's gesture. She couldn't just reach over him and pull the bird off against this strange boy's wishes, could she? "I-I think I should...I think I should get him off..."

The dark-winged owl was flapping those dark wings as he balanced on the human's head, as well as rooting himself with his claws when need be. He was doing his best to pluck the cotton for his nest. However, it was looking a bit...difficult. More so than he expected. With that result, he could only do one other thing: pull harder.

The boy couldn't help but let out a light-hearted laugh. This girl was so concerned for others that she didn't even seem to care that her own problem was solved as a result. Yet she was still considerate enough to stop despite her obvious distress.

Jericho winced a little as the peculiar bird got a grip on his new perch, but continued to smile. At least he was used to this sort of thing. Well...not with predatory, sharp talons, but that was what the dense thicket of curly hair was for, right? But - oh, ouch! The boy cringed and laughed again, this time a little more helplessly. He refused to make a sound of pain, however, not wanting his fellow house member to feel worse than she already was. But either this owl really didn't like him or its intentions involved plucking him bald.

"Does he...do this...often?" Jeri attempted to utter through gritted teeth and a pained smile, bearing what he could of Miller's abuse.
