Molly had been a bit off of the radar for a while. Between taking leave time to ‘travel’ before the portals went down and taking some duties at other outposts, she hadn’t been around all that often. When she had finally returned though, not too long after chaos had erupted.
As the rubble crunched under her boots on her way to the cafeteria, Molly frowned, her brows furrowed. She pulled at her fingers, looking here and there. So much destruction and so much loss…and all they could do was keep going forward…and she had to as well! Of course. It was her job, her duty, her life now. Not helping wasn’t an option.
Her stomach grumbled.
After she made sure she had sustenance though.
The red head stepped into the cafeteria and mulled through the line for breakfast. She then stood at one end of the cafeteria and looked around at the faces. Was there anyone familiar…oh! A small smile pulled at her lips as she spotted the familiar coat that belonged to Deryk. She hadn’t spoken to the young man in a long, long while…but hmm…why was everyone else sitting so far away from him…?
He obviously needed company.
Molly bounded over and came to stop across the table from the Death trainee. “Good morning Deryk, it’s so good to see yo—“
Then it hit her.
The smell.
Oh.
The hairs on the back of her neck stood up straight and she fought to maintain a smile on her face and to keep her face from contorting at the smell. Goodness! What happened to him? “…You! So good to see you! Um…how are you? Is it alright if I sit here…?"

Deryk had not been particularly happy lately. Aside from his little internal conflict, he still had the damn lingering scent on him. He was just slowly eating some cereal when he heard Molly greeting him. Glancing up, he frowned as he noticed the reaction she had once she was close to him.
Right.
"Go for it. If smell doesn't kill your appetite. Yes..." he sighed.

Molly laughed nervously. Very nervously. “Smell? I don’t know what you’re talking about, Deryk!” She then put her tray down quickly on the spot across from the Death trainee and sat down there as well. Just act like it didn’t exist, that’s all! Molly picked up her fork and then started into her scrambled eggs.
Cue a moment of awkward silence.
“…Ah…it’s been a while! Um…what…have you been up to…?”

Deryk gave her an odd look when she acted like there was no smell. Well. If she really couldn't pick up the scent, then she was a lucky one.
"Eh. Same old really. Fighting. People dying. Base breaking again," he said while poking around at his cereal. He was having a little trouble dealing with a few things, but it wasn't really something he was comfortable talking about in the open. Especially when other hunters were technically within earshot.
"I saw a few of us get taken by them too.."

“…Oh…mmm…y-yeah….” Molly couldn’t help but smile painfully once more…but not at the stench, just at Deryk’s reply. Death and destruction…once again, Molly didn’t let the implications of dying fully sink in. She kept her peace of mind that way.
Deryk’s next words though, caused her to drop her fork out of surprise. The utensil clattered noisily onto the tray. “…W-what? Taken…?” Molly did look horrified now. Was it anyone she knew? As selfish as it might have been…she really hoped it wasn’t. “…Do…you know who?”

"The horsemen did. We.. couldn't do anything. They just snatched up a few of us then left to.. wherever they took them. Hadn't heard anything about a rescue plan yet. Not sure if the higher ups will bother," Deryk replied while scratching his head. Letting out a sigh, he leaned against his hand that wast propped up on the table.
"Think Otto was one of them. And Wash. Not sure who else. But more than just them."

Molly just looked more and more horrified as Deryk went on. The higher ups…wouldn’t plan a rescue mission…? But…but everyone…!
“…OTTO!?” Molly cried, now cupping her cheeks as her eyes went wide with pure horror and surprise. “They took Otto…!?” Despite how foul mouthed and bad-tempered the young man was…Molly was still rather fond of him, and she’d never wish harm on any of her fellow hunters. So the fact that he was taken…devastating. “They…they have to be planning a mission, right, Deryk!?”

Deryk cringed a bit at the sudden outcry. Molly was now pretty frantic about the whole situation, and quite frankly... the hunter wasn't really sure what they were planning.
"I... I don't know. Hadn't heard of much. Just orders to repair the island..."

Cue Molly absolutely fretting now.
“N-no orders for a rescue yet!?” She repeated incredulously, and then bit her lip, wringing her hands now. Oh no…there had to be! They had to go rescue their own, right!? The last time she saw Otto just couldn’t have been in the infirmary after he had broken Dakota’s nose! “…I…I’ll have to ask…right? I mean…there has to be someone we can ask…” She was mostly muttering to herself now, and then changed her tune, immediately picking up her fork and shoveling her breakfast down.
“S-So what else has been going on, Deryk!?”

"Yeah.. have to ask. But hadn't heard anything personally. N-not yet at least," Deryk said while pushing around his half eaten cereal some more in the bowl. Though, when the topic switched to him, he just sort of half-grinned and shrugged.
"Eh. Kinda ... same.. ish stuff. Nothing much. Not really. Nope."
Except moral issues is all.

Molly paused, her fork stuck in her mouth as she stared at Deryk with a raised brow.
Something about the way he worded that had Molly suspicious. She finished chewing her bite and swallow, and then tapped the utensil against her lip. “Um…are you sure?” She asked, and then stared at him with wide hopeful eyes.

Deryk poked his bowl with the spoon again, before noticing that he was being looked at funny. Furrowing his brow, he leaned back a bit.
"... Yes?"

Molly frowned.
“…If you ever want to talk about anything, Deryk, I will more than happily lend an ear!” She prodded and offered, and then stilled as she stared even harder at him. Molly was now staring so hard at Deryk, it looked like she might burn a hole into him. Suddenly Molly was standing; her tray clattering loudly as she jostled it and her fork went flying half way across the cafeteria.
“OH MY GOSH DERYK!” She shrieked loudly in concern. “WHERE DID THAT SCAR ON YOUR MOUTH COME FROM!?”

Well that was nice.. but Deryk was suddenly feeling like he was under scrutiny as Molly began to stare very hard at him. It was making him uneasy. When she suddenly stood and shrieked he cringed down, practically huddling. He also quickly made sure his left hand was under the table and out of sight.
"F-from the haunted h-house. G-got into a fight is all... yes.."

It was a very good thing Molly didn’t see his finger yet, but as his explanation, she did calm a bit. Just a bit. Her posture relaxed as she continued to stare down at him, and then she flopped back into her seat.
“…Oh…well, I’m glad you’re okay, Deryk!” Her brows furrowed as she stared at that scar on the corner of his mouth some more. That looked pretty serious. “…It…doesn’t hurt or anything anymore…does it?”
