She...didn't really want to think about what happened, mostly because it reminded her of how much she'd failed. She had tried to protect Mark, even having driven off two of those creatures on her own, but that didn't help in the slightest. The shield fell, Mark almost fell, and people were captured and sent somewhere far off.

Someone...well, people were dead and she didn't need to think about that either. All Ofelia really wanted to think about was what she was going to do next, how quickly she could help rebuild the damage left to the main building and to the labs.

The teen hadn't been in the labs so it wasn't like she felt heartbroken there - people coming out of pods or going on missions or whatever sort of took a backseat to her actually worrying about the fact that the main HQ was missing a wall. The labs she assumed people would work on quickly, just like they had during the insanity crisis. Ofelia had done her best to help then but now. . . now she was going to do something that made a difference.

She was going to rolled up her sleeves (figuratively, since she didn't have any shirts with sleeves) and get down and dirty with repairing holes. She could lay a brick wall, Ofelia knew how from working on the barn and helping around her small town. She could hammer a nail, she could patch a roof.

Ofelia could be useful now since before she'd failed so hard. Rue scoffed in her head before falling silent again, leaving the teen to her own work.

It was easy enough to find supplies; they had become readily available shortly after the incident as the whole of Deus was ready to rebuild. Ofelia took a sack of concrete and a bucket, hoisting the former onto her shoulder easily while the latter swayed in her grasp. She needed to fill it up with water if she wanted to get started, hopefully though what she had was mortar and not just...actual concrete. Unless they wanted her to lay down a retaining wall without anything in it she could use it that way.

Her shoes slipped off her feet as she got into an area relatively free of nails and other things that could and would drive themselves into the soles of her feet without difficulty. A few stubbed toes gave her a good indication of where she needed to start and the sack dropped. Water was quickly gotten (it was the easiest thing to find) and she looked down at a section that was all too ready to be bricked back in.

"Ah'd try ta sing but singin' fer mahself seems stupid. Hey Rue, ya feel like singin'?" For the first time in a long, long time, Ofelia heard the surprise in her brain-partner's voice.

. . .what makes you think I sing? Her words held an edge but Ofelia could still hear it loud and clear.

"Ya sing often 'nough durin' fights, or at least yer hummin'. If ya dun wanna sing ya can jus' hum. Right now...even if ya hate me, hearin' yer voice is sommin' Ah need." There was a long pause and Ofelia looked up to the sky as if she were expecting to see Rue there. She had no idea what the Boo Hag looked like, not that she assumed they would be pretty based on their title. She was about to say something again, to maybe ask, when she heard it on the edge of her mind.

A song she had sung long ago, a song she had said in idle passing was soothing to her. Rue was humming it in her rich accent, the tone soft and sweet. Ofelia blushed as a smile crossed her face, and she started to get to work. Bricks were laid and she spread the mortar with the trowel, all the while listening to the swaying tones in her skull.

It seemed as though keeping a steady working pace was the best thing after all for Ofelia and even though Rue was still only humming her tone and steady tempo kept the pace nice and easy. She was spreading and setting at a silly little rhythm, not moving faster than before yet not going slower either. The layer of bricks she placed had moved from her knees up to her thighs, stretching as long as her arm-span would allow. Around her were more places that needed to be worked on, she shouldn't dwell here too long, but there was always a chance to come back tomorrow and finishing another section. She'd laid bricks connecting to a section that was half finished and when it got to the point she'd need a ladder then she'd pause.

. . . and go get a ladder.

There was no such thing as giving up, not right now. She still didn't have a room to sleep in at night, it hadn't been repaired since the insanity and the flood and everything else, but that was okay. With the building destroyed like this no one would be happy and if everyone was unhappy then her adventures would surely never be able to happen.

That thought sucked and she conveyed it a little too clearly; Rue stopped singing and gave a mental punch. Ofelia shuddered and went back to work quickly, trying to pick her pace up. Rue cackled and went back to her song, the tune different and mocking.

Still better than silence though.

The sun was starting to get a little high overhead and she was getting in the need of a snack or meal or something to fill her stomach. Rue's singing had long stopped by this point in time, the weapon either bored or just tired of being kind to her partner in this situation. Either way they were about done for now and the teen stood up, wiping the sweat that had gathered on her brow with the back of her arm. She only had about a half-pallet of bricks left to go if she really wanted to complete it out and, seeing as Ofelia wasn't too tired and could still plow through, she grabbed a bit more mortar and started into it.

The end result had her building a wall that was up top her shoulders, the section looking really well done all things considered. She felt a strange surge of pride in her chest (in reality it was heartburn) and she dropped the bucket to the side, gathering the rest of the tools in it. Tomorrow she'd come back and work more on it, she needed something else to do, and perhaps without needing anyone she could repair a while side of the HQ and make up for her failure. Maybe then people would also come and look at her and tell her she did a good job and she wouldn't feel bad and then she'd be worthwhile.

Not that she was doubting her worth - she'd been kicking a** in spars and hadn't been knocked down just yet, so her stupid inability to protect people wouldn't be remembered anymore. Plus she was a sun hunter - protecting people wasn't her thing she was meant to punch and her excuses were getting old. With a sigh (and a stomach rumble) she turned towards the way out and started off, eager to get something to eat.

Tomorrow, or maybe even after lunch, she'd get more done. There was always a need to get more done.
