M-my age? That's a bit complicated...
In the moonlight I appear to be seventeen. Every other time? I'm about ten years old. I am actually two thousand and twenty-one, if you want an exact number though. Who'd have thought I actually remembered that?
If you want to know that you'll need to ask me, not the brat...
Taryn was born a human, never intended to be anything but that either. The island on which he was raised was something out of a fairy tale. There were no fights, no lies, no thieves. About the only bad thing that ever did happen was the occasional death. Everything was shared between the people, there was no bargaining or trading. All of the people would work together to do something and then everyone would share in the reward. Some, like Taryn, were gifted with magic. Those that were had a special purpose, they were charged with protecting the barrier which kept those that would destroy their way of life from locating, or entering, their domain. It was perfect, a paradise on earth. Well, that's how it was until the demon arrived anyway.
Now, before we continue, there is something you should know about our dear boy. His father -may his soul rest in peace- died before Taryn's first birthday, and while the villagers assisted his mother in the boy's upbringing none held more of his heart than the woman who had carried him in her womb for nine long months. For her, Taryn would do absolutely anything, even sell his soul to the devil.
Back to our story...
None suspected him of anything at first; they were protected, what reason would they have to think that such an evil creature had made it through their defenses? But he had been able to do so with a little help. First, he took on the appearance of a handsome young man in need of help and approached the barrier. He convinced the young maiden guarding that point that if he truly meant them harm he wouldn't have been able to locate the island; so she allowed him entry. As soon as he was inside the demon erased all traces of himself from her mind.
If only the female had realized that he shouldn't have known about their barrier... Now, it was too late; the damage had been done and there would be no way to reverse it. Lokell was now inside their sanctuary. However, the demon needed to wait for an appropriate time to attack. At the very least, he needed to wait for a few more people to find their way to the island. That way he wouldn't be the first suspect.
Lokell learned of the island paradise from an oracle. Once he knew of it there was no way he could let things continue as they had been. He fed off of emotions, you see, and negative feelings were particularly scrumptious to this demon. So he had decided to destroy their peaceful civilization. Lust, greed, fear, hatred; he would instill all those things and more into his new prey. It would be a feast fit for a king. Until his first attack, the male would put on an act and gain their trust.
Seven weeks, and eighteen new faces later, the first murder occurred. That was the beginning of Lokell's massacre and the end of this carefully constructed paradise. At first, none could fathom what had happened. Why would anyone wish to commit such a vile act? It had to be a lie, there had to be some other explanation. That's what the villagers told themselves. Deep down they all knew the truth, but no one wanted to acknowledge such a thing. The next night their worst fears were confirmed, a killer had breached their barrier.
The deaths continued; at least one every day. Two weeks after he had started, Lokell decided to add a bit more fun to his 'game.' He would notify the next victim three days before they would be slaughtered and watch them squirm. Without fail, each became even more panicked as the days passed. At the beginning of the fourth week, Taryn's mother received one such notice...
Why had no one left the island? They couldn't. The demon had erected his own barrier to prevent his prey from running away. People could still enter, but none could escape. They were trapped, caged prey.
Taryn, like every other islander, had been looking for clues as to who was committing these heinous crimes. It was sheer luck that caused him to stumble upon the tome that would forever change his life. The enormous, leather-bound book housed summoning spells of every kind. Some he recognized as spells a few of the older magic users had performed. One in particular caught his interest; it was upon a page that had obviously been ignored. This spell would let him summon a powerful demon.
If he had looked on the next page; Taryn would have found that there was another creature he could have summoned, the boy was in too much of a hurry though. He quickly went about gathering what he would need, keeping away from everyone as he did so. He cast the spell hoping for someone that could identify and stop the murderer, Taryn had never expected the being he was met with to be the devil himself... Nonetheless, he pleaded with the evil creature and Lucifer agreed...for a price.
He would tell Taryn exactly who the murder was and give him the power to defeat this foe in exchange for the boy's soul and Taryn's vow that he would serve him until the day his demonic urges subsided. It was a bargain he agreed to much to quickly. He had cared only that it would save his mother and neglected paying attention to the rest of it. They sealed the contract in blood, and Taryn ran off to destroy Lokell.
His mother was safe now, and the devil had yet to call upon him in the three weeks since their agreement, but with each passing day Taryn's human emotions dwindled. His appearance changed too; his hair went from brown to blonde, his eyes became the deepest shade of blue. They would turn blood red if angered or if he used his powers though. Soon enough, the islanders feared him as well. Even his mother did... The one person he had wanted to protect more than anyone else was frightened by what he had become.
Then that day came; his first assignment from the man who had made him a demon was something the male had never imagined. It was time for Taryn to lose his weak, human self completely. To do that, he had to get rid of the one thing holding him hack from becoming a full-fledged demon. Taryn had to kill the one person he wanted to protect above all else: his mother. He was bound by a blood oath; something utterly unbreakable. No matter how much he resisted, the young male could not stay his hand. With her death, he became someone else entirely. He cared about nothing anymore. It hurt too much to care is what he decided, so he locked away every single one of those feelings.
For the next several centuries, Taryn made a name for himself in the monster world. Sometimes he would kill because it was an assignment, but it was mostly done for fun now. If a mortal so much as looked at him the wrong way they would find themselves at the wrong end of his sickle. Taryn's nickname became 'The Reaper' and it was one he lived up to wonderfully.
About two years ago, the male attacked the wrong person. He killed her, but she cursed him. He was cursed to live as a child once more, to a time long before he had struck that deal. He also had no memories past that age. The only time when he would revert back was when his body became cloaked in moonlight. There was a way to break the curse too, she told him—for their battle had taken place at night. The sneaky old bat conveniently left out how it could be broken though. After that night, The Reaper disappeared without a trace; no one knew about the curse which had been cast upon him.
The first time he awakened the boy was terribly confused. Where was his mother? His friends? What had happened to the island? Imagine his shock at finding that he was two-thousand years into the future. Taryn was thrown into the foster system first.and passed from home to home for a couple months. Well, until that fateful night when his true self was released and he vanished into the night.
A few weeks ago the child received an invitation to a place called 'Trinity Castle' and eagerly accepted. Maybe if he had a real home he would stop waking up in such strange places...
Why are you asking all this stuff? Do you think I'll misbehave...?
Taryn's younger self is extremely innocent. He is usually cheerful and happy-go-lucky. If you invite him to play a game he'll be ecstatic. He doesn't believe there to be much, if any, evil in the world. He is very trusting but can be frightened easily. A thunderstorm will send him running into bed with whomever he feels closest too. Taryn also loves to play games and being outside. He can be fairly well behaved unless you give him sugar. All bets are off once you've done that. Without fail, he will be asleep at ten o'clock every night.
The older him is quite different. He feels very little emotion towards anything. He fears nothing, even death. Taryn does enjoy fighting. He also likes a challenge. He'll never back down from a challenge. He is secretive about pretty much everything, especially the first couple decades of his past. He is calm, cold and calculating. Thus far, no one has been able to penetrate his emotional defenses and Taryn intends to keep it that way. Such feelings are useless after all. He has a tendency to be sarcastic.
Really? That too...aren't you being just a little bit nosy?
Taryn can manifest portals which lead to a storage for all the items he collects. Much easier than having to carry things around... Only he may remove things from said portals.
He possesses minor glamour, just enough for him to be able to hide or change little things about his appearance. He can choose whether or not to make his wings visible with this ability and also change things like hair or eye color.
He is adept at using certain types of magic, mainly those which require spells to perform.
