Clyde hated the new, temporary base.
Compared to this, the old base didn't need renovating. Somewhere in the remote wilderness of Zatao, the Rockets first built an underground bomb shelter. It was seemed it was supposed to be a safe-house in case of an emergency. What kind of foreseeable emergency could call for a bomb shelter was beyond him. A lot of things now-a-days were beyond Clyde.
Like how had that little blue haired pip-squeak defeated him? Well, he actually knew the answer to that one. A Shadow Mew. But super powerful legendary pokemon weren't always the source of his problems. Still the escape of that run away Rocket tugged in his mind, and was fueled by the fresh rumors that someone had taken her down in battle, only to find her teleported away. Rumors circulated very quickly and more accurately in their new close quarters. The spoiled Rocket Grunt had to hunt down this other, apparently older and more experienced Rocket Grunt who was able to take down a Shadow Mew.
Clyde wasn't the type at all to seek out a mentor. A sparring partner perhaps, but to seek a mentor was to show weakness, that he wasn't good enough on his own and that he needed help to get stronger. Facing the unshakable reality that his pokemon weren't up to par and neither were his battle strategies, he sought out this...Walpurgis person and hoped they could at least give him a tip or two.
He decided to try his luck with the largest and most popular area in the makeshift base: the cafeteria. He was hungry anyway and grabbed a plate of food to chow down on while looking out for any signs of a man a little older than him, with long black hair and a scar on his face.

Walpurgis chatted happily with his fellow rockets as they ate a meal. "Hey, man, shitty luck with the deserter girl." "Yeah, I head you had her, too." Walpurgis finished chewing his bite before responding. "Well, she's not exactly my concern - it's the mew's teleportation. It's difficult enough to sneak up on a psychic-type, after all. I figure the only reason they didn't just teleport away to begin with is that they underestimated Gangrel and Satori. And unless they're stupid, they won't be doing that again." He took a sip of his soda before continuing. "In all honesty, if it goes on much longer, I'd just call off the mission entirely. The mew simply isn't worth the resources we'd need to spend to capture it."
Walpurgis thought briefly to himself about the outcome of the mission, wondering if there was anything he could've done differently to attain the desired result. He supposed taking a hostage probably would have worked, but it seemed like something the cops would have done, not him. No point worrying about it now, though. If he was put back on the trail, then he'd worry about it.

The cafeteria was loud with chattered, what he hadn't been able to see with his eyes he might be able to hear with his ears, everyone loved to gossip. Clyde kept his ears open as he munched and sipped. "New base...Supposed to be awesome....shitty luck with the deserter girl....it's the mew's teleportation...."
Mew and deserter girl, there it was. One of them was bound to be the guy. He quickly finished his food and tossed his tray on top of a trash can. He kept the soda can and took another sip, then headed over to the table he heard that snippet of conversation from.
Tack wasn't exactly the young man's expertise. He strode right up to the table and sat down across from the man with long black hair. "So," He took another sip, maybe he should try to be more aloof and not come off so desperate and to distract from the fact that he just completely butted in on the conversation and his meal? Maybe. "You're the guy that went after that girl after me? I'm Clyde," He at least had the sense to introduce himself.

Walpurgis looked up at the newcomer. "Hey, man. I'm Walpurgis, and yes, I was sent after Zinnia Hayes. Was there something you wanted to know?" Walpurgis assumed Clyde had been assigned the mission again, and wanted info. He took another bite of his meal as he waited for a response.

"Uh yeah, they sent me after her too, before you I guess. I've been hearing you almost had her, how'd you do it?" That was the main thing on his mind. He hadn't really prepared an interview or anything but he did want to ask him a couple questions, though currently most of them escaped him.

Walpurgis swallowed his food as he shifted in his seat. "'How?' That's a rather vague question. I figure it had varying layers to it - they underestimated us, for starters. It's a fair assumption that a rattata and liepard wouldn't be much cause for alarm against a mew and a gengar, but Gangrel and Satori aren't exactly like others of their kind. So, they let their guard down. Secondly, Gangrel and Satori working in tandem with each other helped things along - they isolated the mew and then took down the gengar. Divide and conquer, basic war strategy."
Walpurgis finished up his soda, crushing the can when he was finished in a vice-like grip. "In the end, I guess it all came down to the fact that Gangrel and Satori's teamwork and experience working together was simply more powerful than either of Zinnia's pokemon."

Clyde did his best to remember whether or not he was underestimated. He guessed he wasn't at all, if anything he had underestimated his team's ability, but he would never admit to that. Especially not to this other Rocket. He nodded along with Walpuris's explanation. Divide and conquer. He should have known that.
The alizarin-haired boy never wanted to ask for help, even in the rare event that he admitted he needed it. He nodded again at the last part of the other grunt's story. A rattata and a liepard. Rattata weren't exactly the most fercious sounding pokemon either, though he supposed liepard must be on the strong side. He could learn a thing or two from this guy. He wanted to learn.
"...That's really something, care to show me how it's done in a battle?" He challenged.

Walpurgis finished chewing his bite before responding. "I'll not turn down practice. Two-on-two, then?" His mind began to race, already formulating strategies he could use - a habit that came from the lifestyle he had lived.

Clyde stood up, "Great, and two-on-two it is," He said. There was a makeshift training stadium somewhere in the temporary base. After tossing his soda can in the trash, he made his way to an elevator.

Walpurgis quickly finished his meal, dumping the remains of his lunch into the trash. He turned to the rockets he had been talking with earlier. "Later, guys. Have fun." He left to the stadium.

Clyde too his spot at the end of the large room. It was on one of the lower levels of the shelter, and previously appeared to be made of of several rooms, but all walls except for the main four had been knocked down to make room for the training area. Simple white markings outlined the field, the traditional pokeball in the center and two white boxes on either end for each trainer. The Rocket released Hestia and Ares. "This is a training exercise, but you better give it your all," He told the pair. The Torchic glared at him, still not liking his attitude but she wanted to win just as much as him. As usual, Ares obeyed without question.

Walpurgis entered the makeshift stadium, unclasping the two pokeballs from his belt. With a whip-snap! Gangrel and Satori appeared before him. He crouched down beside them. "Okay. This is just a training match, no need to get so serious unless you want to. I have full faith in you two, as always. Now let's show them how it's done, yeah?" He was met with a joyous chatter/growl combo. Walpurgis stood up and backed away to his spot.

"Ares get your attack up with Howl, and Hestia start off with Rock Smash on the Liepard," He had to think this one through if he didn't want to look like an idiot in front of the older grunt. The Liepard had a significant amount of energy over both his pokemon, better not waste time on cutting him down.
The Vulpix let loose a chilling howl that raised his attack while Hestia sprinted forward and whirled in her typical style at the leopard pokemon.

Walpurgis analyzed the moves his opponent had used. A safe choice.
"Satori, encore on the vulpix! Gangrel, Defense Curl!"
As Gangrel rolled up tight to thwart attacks against him, Satori went straight to work on the vulpix. [Oh, such a pretty scream.... I wonder how much better it will sound once I'm ripping it out of you?}
Gangrel looked over to his mate. [Tori, that's a teammate - no lasting damage.]
{Oh, I know. It'll heal up in a few months!}

The vulpix growled and glare at the liepard, no Howling against his will. He did not like that cat. Hestia had darted back next to her team mate after her attack, eyes narrowed in suspicion at their opponents.
"Hestia, keep going with Rock Smash on the liepard until I tell you otherwise, Ares, Flare Blitz on the liepard as well." He was definitely more comfortable with direct attacks rather than continuous status changes. Those generally left too much room for their enemies to strike.
Hestia darted forward again on her long legs and kicked a talon at the liepard once more, while Ares charged forward, enveloping himself in flames.
