When Before finally managed to regain enough strength to rise to his feet, he attempts to check on his friends, maybe go around to see the extent of the damage the freaks made, maybe even discover if any of the people he actually gave two shits about had been taken. Maybe. Maybe not. He barely managed to take a few steps forward when a strong grip clamped around his forearm and forcibly dragged him towards the nearest portal.

Confused and dazed, Before never had the chance to protest, let alone resist until the portal has closed behind him and he was once again at the clearing. It took him a moment to realize whoever it was that had grabbed him the first place had let go. It took him another moment to realize a tall, moderately built Intermediate Moon trainee with the buzz cut was marching towards the outpost. It took him one more moment to put two and two together and quickly take chase.

"Hey! Hey! Dude, wait up!" he weakly called out. The Moonie kept walking. Huh, maybe he didn't hear Before. It was possible, his voice did sound a little hoarse. He waited patiently for his weapon to either agree or disagree but at the moment, it seemed like Vanna was too tired from what had happened with the crystals. At the memory, Before shuddered, instinctively checking his arms to verify that he was, indeed, made of flesh and blood and not some sparkly statue.

By the time he felt certain of his physical condition, the Moonie was out of sight! DDDD8 Which prompted the Misty to pick up his pace and get to the outpost. There, he spotted two familiar faces.

"Lilah! Glen! You're both okaaaaaay!!!!" *0*!!!! Before greeted, relieved to see the two trainees hadn't been abducted. He started the initial dance of fretting over the basic trainees, despite their reassurance that they were fine, they never left the outpost (Portals stopped working for some odd reason), and this is all rather embarrassing. Instinctively he brought out his phone and began to send messages to his friends, hoping to find out their status. In the middle of his typing, someone began clearing their throat. Which of course Before ignored, thinking whoever it was had a genuine need to clear their throat.

Rick Warner was not a particularly cheerful individual. If he spent most of the day with his lips pinched in a grim line, then he considered it a good day. He didn't have an aversion to fun, far from it! When it was time to kick back, relax, knock back a few drinks, he wouldn't refuse.

Except to Rick, as long as he was in Deus and not in the infirmary, it meant it was time for work. He didn't have the time to join the other trainees in their merry little outings, unless it was an external mission. Those he gladly joined and practically steamrolled everyone into finishing as quickly as possible.

He had duties to perform, training to complete, runic weapons to charge, chores to complete, and ad nauseum. Which wouldn't be a problem if Rick actually liked doing all that work instead of going through the motions begrudgingly with finally being promoted his only goal.

And right now, he was so close. He was, quite literally, on the cusp of being promoted into a full-fledged Hunter. It also helped that the Whorsemen's surprise attack decimated their ranks and they were now hurting for Hunter replacements. Edith had given him his promotion mission once the dust settled and Rick was going to get this done as soon as he could.

"One of them has to be an Intermediate? Fine," he grumbled once his soon-to-be-former Division Leader was out of earshot. On the way to the portal, he spotted a Mist trainee standing stupified. Rick would have just shoved him out of the way but the additional design indicated he was a necessary rank. And so, that was why he dragged the goof along.

He would quickly come to regret making such a hasty decision when, upon arriving at the outpost, the Mist was quick to cheer the safety of the other two trainees already present. His initial dismay at having picked a Chatty Cathy was further intensified when said Intermediate began ******** texting.

If he was on the ******** Deus Twitter Rick was going to, no, no, breathe, breathe. Don't ******** up this mission, Rick. He's probably just worried about his friends. You did just yank him outta from outta left field. Rick began to clear his throat, hoping to catch the rapid-fire texting Mist's attention.

When it became clear it wasn't working, Rick placed a heavy grip on the shorter Intermediate's shoulder. "Hey, you done yet?"

Before's first thought was to pull himself out of the grip, arms raised like a shield in front of him, which of course had his phone facing the Moon Trainee. "Whoa, dude, personal spaaaace~?" Before eeped, brows knitted and lips pursed.

And was greeted with a very, very, very sour look from the other Intermediate trainee. Ooookay they were obviously off to a bad start so he put his phone away and offered his hand and a sheepish grin, "Hi, I'm Before. This is Glen and Lilah, they bicker like an old married couple and it's loads of fun to watch." He introduced.

Rick simply shot the two basic trainees a look. One that warned them both that he was not in the mood for a demonstration. He focused that same look on the Mist Trainee. Before? What kinda dumbass name's that? he thought sourly. Rick's annoyed thoughts translated to a frown and a begrudging acceptance of the proffered hand.

The handshake was brief, but hard, more so on Rick's part than Before's.

"I'm Rick. We'll have a Full Hunter joining us soon." Whether he was referring to himself post promotion mission, Rick wasn't the sort to say.

"Oh so we can get this mission underway?" Before chirped, surprisingly chipper for someone who didn't know what fate befell his friends.

"Yeah. The sooner the better. This is my Promotion Mission. None of you better screw this up for me," he grimaced. He expected Glen and Lilah's nod of acknowledgment, their uneasy glances that betrayed their confidence. He did not, however, expect to suddenly be clapped hard on the back by the Mist Trainee and to hear him chatter on about advance congratulations and ask what sort of things Rick liked to eat.

The Moon Trainee had not expected the cheery smile and unabashed faith that whatever Rick's mission was, Before was totes sure he'd pass with flying colors. Which was why Rick roughly shoved Before away with a snap of "Personal space."

With that awkward introduction out of the way, Before found Lilah and Glen excusing themselves to go on a perimeter watch, maybe keep a lookout for that Hunter Rick mentioned. It wasn't necessary for Before to accompany them and when he turned to ask what Rick was up to, it turned out the Moonie had already left. Which mean Before was all alone.

With nothing nor no one to distract him from his thoughts.

8C Well, that was never good.

Have you forgotten about me, silly Before?

What? No! That's. That's totes not what I meant!!! OnO

He heard his partner chuckle, then realized Vanna was just teasing him. It was good to hear she was doing better. After all the s**t that had been happening, with the crystals and the HQ getting raided and his friends getting kidnapped.

Teal eyes widened as the gravity of the situation sank in. s**t. s**t. s**t. He didn't know if Ofelia or Bix or Tori or Gale were alright! Yeah he saw some of those freak making off with some of the other trainees but who's to say there weren't more of his fellow trainees that were kidnapped? Immediately he sent a flurry of texts, rocking on his heels in anxious impatience, the seconds ticking by agonizingly slow.

No ******** why was there no response? Were the cellsite towers down? Were they cut-off here in the outpost? Were they physically unable to check their phones, let alone answer it? s**t. ********. A multitude of worst-case scenarios began playing through Before's head and it was a blessing Before wasn't the most imaginative of individuals. Otherwise he might have simply curled up right then and there, ******** dignity we don't do that here.

He would eventually be spared of a complete meltdown when Bix finally responded and was in an infinitely better mood for it by the time the Full Hunter arrived.

The Death Hunter that finally arrived looked like she'd seen better days, what with the bandages wound tight around her head and arms. Whether she felt self-conscious over the wide-eyed stares of concern the trainees (save for Rick) were giving her, she gave no indication of it.

She opened her mouth, as if to speak, instead a series of loud, wet hacking noises emerged. So much so that Lilah had gone to fetch a bucket. Just in case. The Death Hunter waved away the proffered item, and in a raspy voice explained "Except for Rick, we're all here because we won't be missed."

Before look dismayed, "B-but I don't WANT to be transferred again!!!"

"Missed, not Mist," Rick snapped.

The Death Hunter nodded, "Thanks. Rick, Edith briefed me on what your promotion mission is so just. Do what you've been doing. I'm gonna be in my quarters. Filing paperwork."

And apparently that was all there was to it.
