Do you guys think you should represent you're a fighter and be proud about it? (through clothing and stuff mostly.)

My personal opinion is yeah sure, wear clothes that represent your a fighter, most schmucks wouldn't know anyway, they'd think the clothes are just you trying to look cool or something; which is partially true.

On the other hand, do you think it would draw TOO much unwanted attention?

I never and would never wear anything advertising the fact that I train. It would make you into a target if you come across the wrong kind of people.

If you find yourself in a confrontational situation and your would be opponants see that you advertise yourself as a fighter they'll be on their guard and you'll lose the element of suprise. They'll take no chances and you will be outnumbered.

Valid argument. I was just curious because I had come across some UFC apparel from a company called TapouT. There are a few shirts that depict fighters or say fighters and such. I am not talking about shirts that say outright, "I know martial arts" or something like that. Take a look at the site and tell me what you think, www.inyaface.com. You can find the more confrontational ones in the BANNED section of T-shirts.
Myself, I don't mind those shirts (I think they're quite cool actually) but, I wouldn't mind hearing more input.

Yea, I dont really wnt to advertise that I train, that jsut makes me a target, as Delmar said. Although sometimes I wear my dojo muscle-T under my shirt, but If I wear a muscle-T, it probably means Im going to train anyways, soo yea.

But no.. I know a few people, and have seen many others (Celest should be able to back me up on that) with the "Black Belt Club" "My goal is black belt" and other things along those lines.

But wearing like, lets say a UFC shirt or something should be alright, it doesnt advertise your training, merely advertises your support of the UFC.

What Reim and Delmar said. Also, my gi and dojo t-shirt, etc, get really sweaty and stinky, so it's always either being washed or waiting to be washed. I use my dojo sweatshirt (got it free from a seminar) as PJs, but I don't normally walk around in public in my PJs, lol.

I don't think it's wrong, however most people would look at it as bragging (if you were to walk around in your gi, that is), and I don't see the point of it.

I saw a kid walking home one time from one of my local bullshido mcdojos in his gi... mind you this is downtown.. I wanted to jump out of my car and smack him.

But dude. He'd totally use his Ki-blasts and use his "no touch" knock out technique. God when are mortals gonna learn to not mess with people who can use their ki. lol.

Read below in case you think I'm serious.

I saw some kid wearing a gi and black belt walking around the city, but I didn't mind because he was hot. =3

Haha, seriously, whenever I see someone walking around in their karate uniforms, unless it's obvious that they're heading home and didn't have time to change, I instantly think Bullshido. Gi's are pretty geeky-looking, so the only reason someone would wear them in public is to show off their skills, which I think is stupid. It's like saying "hey, I'm a disillusioned, overconfident idiot! Come mug me!" It's alright if it's not a gi, because it's far less obvious then.

What if It was someone like... Rickson, or Royce? I don't think many people would do anything then. But those are exceptions.

If anyone was stupid enough to walk around the town I live in with a Gi on they'd get jumped.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 22, 2005 6:25 am

I would just walk up to him and go, "Dude, why are you walking around with your gi on?" Then Iwould smack him so hard.

I think we've allposted this quite a few times,
If somebody is wondering around in their Gi (when they dont have to be) they deserve a thumping
If somebody is wondering around in their club tracksuit (when they dont have to be) they deserve a thumping
If somebody practises their katas/jumping spinning back kicks out and about trying to look the business they deserve a thumping
If somebody wonders around town with a sword or any other such weapon they deserve a thumping
If somebody is really arrogant and agressive because "they train in (insert random martial art here)" they deserve a thumping
If somebody claims they can beat somebody else purely based on what art they take they deserve a thumping
If somebody claims they can channel ki or perform one touch knockouts they deserve death and a gang raped corpse...

Hehe got a bit off topic but I started to get carried away xd *goes to sit quietly foaming at the mouth in the corner...*

Hmm...I don't really think that it's really that cocky. Although it could get to a point where it's ridiculous (for example this McDojo I've seen sells bookbags, shirts, pants, pens, pencils, hats, and all that crap and I've actually seen some of them wear it all). When I represent I have this shirt with a big Chinese character "Wu" from "Wushu" on the back. That's about all I have though. LMAO, and the wearing your "gi" around the city is stupid. You're just inviting a beat down. I don't care what martial arts you know, but when it's one vs. twenty people, you aint gonna get far.
