Aalun yawned and let out a sigh leaning against the tree they'd stopped under for the night. She blinked sleepily and glanced over towards where Arthur was getting a drink from a nearby stream. She smiled a bit, at the big stallion. Despite the rocky start, they'd been traveling together for months now without to much issue. Oh there were still some things they wouldn't say, but it was understood that those things existed and that was enough...for now anyway.
She rubbed absently against the tree getting an itch on her side as Arthur came back and stood on the other side of the tree. "Pretty tonight. Quiet too." she said looking up at the clear sky, with only a hint of a crescent moon.

Arthur was half asleep on his hooves as he came back. "Hmm? Oh, yeah, I guess." he said glancing up then back down not really paying attention. While it hadn't been an overly trying day, Arthur was feeling strung out from the last few weeks. They'd run into all sorts of trouble, wolves, a flood, something he was pretty sure was a skinwalker, but it had never shifted so he'd had to accept it was just a cat, and he was pretty sure a kalona had been following them at one point.
Through it all Aalun had barely lifted an eyebrow. She'd just kept going forward, trudging through mud and anything else that came in her way. He'd forgotten slightly how stubborn she was and how she didn't accept no for an answer, but it was scary too. Things that even upset him a bit, didn't even phase her. But then again she'd been on her own a lot less time than he had, and things that he worried about facing alone, she just gave him an unimpressed look. He'd tried to explain it that out here there was no team to back them up, but she'd just laughed at him and continued in their chosen direction. She really was enough to drive a stallion crazy, in more ways than one.

Aalun glanced over at the droopy stallion. "Apple for your thoughts." she said softly, a smile playing at the corner of her mouth. Even when he half asleep, she knew his mind never stopped working. Despite being incredibly brash, Arthur did have a deep thoughtful side, it was a pity others didn't see it more often. She hadn't really known it existed until one night when they were arguing the merits of their own combat styles. It was amazing the amount of knowledge that was at Arthur's disposal. For someone who often got lectured for not paying attention to his clan's loremaster as a colt, he seemed to have learned his lessons well and kept them close to his heart.
It was amazing really how they were both probably the most unorthodox of their own clans, but how closely they believed and followed the tenants. She suddenly felt a wave of homesickness that she hadn't felt since just after she'd left home all that time ago in search for Arthur. She sighed softly and glanced over at the big stallion and felt a little warming of her heart and the sickness retreat a bit. Arthur really was where her home was now...

Arthur yawned hugely and looked over at Aalun, he couldn't help himself and his own mouth twitched slight in response to the smile she was trying not to let out. "Just that you are a handful, and possibly crazy...and possibly going to be the death of me." he said it teasingly but he honestly did mean it. Traveling with Aalun was not for the unprepared.
"Are you going to gouge me now?" he asked only half teasing. He watched her expression change, and wondered what was going through her mind. It seemed almost wistful, and he was afraid he'd said something wrong. "I was teasing." he said. "I'm really to tired to fight." and he didn't mean physically, even mental bouts with Aalun were trying. She was incredibly quick witted and often left him with his mouth open...not that that was hard he'd admit, but he didn't always expect it from the little mare.

Aalun blinked and then laughed a bit. "Well I am a battlemaiden. We're not supposed to be the most sane bunch." she said teasing, but her ears flicked back a bit. That explained a lot, she hadn't thought much of the last few weeks, just obstacles to be tackled, adventures to be had, she hadn't realized how her behavior could have been negatively affecting Arthur. Come to think of it they'd had an argument after the possible skinwalker about not having a company of other war horses around to save them if things went south, and while she hadn't thought much of it, he had. It was rather shocking to find that things actually scared Arthur Flew, besides herself, and it had made her reevaluate him a bit. Not all for the bad though, she'd just always seemed to have this picture in her mind that the two of them, trained warriors were near invincible.
"I'm sorry, Arthur." she said softly. "I know I can be a pain, and I don't mean to be. You know that. I just...get ideas." she sighed and chuckled wryly. "No I'm not going to gouge you. You're just trying to be honest." a trait she could admire in him, better he tell her the truth than tell her what he thought she wanted to hear.

"That is a very true statement." he said and he relaxed again knowing she wasn't about to snap at him. "I just...sometimes you get way to ahead of yourself, and I worry about you. What if something happened to you? I'm no healer Aalun and I don't know any. I don't...want anything to happen to you and I don't want us to end up dead because..." he sighed. He didn't want to fight with her, but it looked like this was going to lead into an argument.
"Aren't you afraid of anything?" he glanced over at her watching the pale moonlight catch the highlights in her mane and coat. She was rather pretty when this happened and Arthur had to admit that despite the difficulties he could...possibly...have some deep feelings for the mare.

Aalun colored slightly. "Of course I am!" she shuffled slightly. "I'm...afraid of losing you...again. And if something happened to you..." she went on quickly before he interrupted her. "But you see I have this picture in my head that together we're invincible, I know it's silly, but it's just how I feel. You and I together can take on anything." she glanced over at him. "And we have so far, so I'm not completely wrong."
She sighed. "You are right though, we could be in trouble if something did to terribly wrong." she frowned. "Do...you want to go home?"

Arthur met her eyes and was touched deeply but what she said. He'd never, well that wasn't true, he knew how she felt about him, but he'd never realized that it extended to an "us". He should have, but it never occurred to him, and it was true. They did make a good "us". He snorted and smiled anyway. "True. We...do make quite the pair." he said softly.
He laughed loudly at her suggestion. "Hell No!" he said. "I don't think I could get back in if I wanted too, and I have no idea how your family would feel about you running off as you did. I think...for the time being we're on our own. Why do you ask though?"

She shrugged. "Just asking, and I miss home, but at the same time when I look at you I feel like I am home. That wherever you are, is where I belong."
She shifted and looked embarrassed. "I love you, Arthur! And I want...everything! I won't ask it of you now, I just want you to know. I want a ton of little fillies and colts running around looking like you and me...and I just don't know if we can do that out here...alone, but at home..." she looked over at him to gauge his reaction. "At home they would be raised as we were...learning the things they should know to protect themselves, hearing the old stories, you know the important stuff."

Arthur blinked at her outburst and listened quietly taking it in. He knew that she loved him, he didn't exactly understand why, but he knew it. The last part caught him off guard. She wanted his little ones? Well that was a natural progression of being together, but...he shifted a bit uncomfortably. "Ah...I never thought about it." he said slowly. "Now is a good a time as any." he muttered. How did he feel about that? Well besides making him panic a little inside, it wasn't...a completely uncomfortable thought.
He frowned slightly, she was right though. Despite having run off it was important to him that his own children learn the skills, hear the stories...it was where he and Aalun were from, he couldn't imagine abandoning that heritage. They were warriors, and did come from clans with long illustrious traditions, well maybe not so illustrious, but that wasn't the point. He glanced over as she gasped suddenly.

"Oh Arthur look," she said stepping out from under the tree. "Shooting stars!" she laughed, and darted her head from side to side trying to watch them all at the same time. "They're beautiful!" she looked back and jerked her head. "Come on, Arthur! Don't just stand there, you're missing it." she smiled radiantly at him, knowing he always responded to that. It was probably his greatest weakness, and her best weapon, although she tried not to over use it.
"Maybe it's a sign..." she whispered.

Arthur felt himself melt at that smile. He tried to resist but it was useless, she knew it always worked on him. He shook his head chuckling wryly and stepped out next to her looking up. "It is pretty." he said.
His ear flicked as he heard her whisper. "Maybe..." he said quietly in response. He leaned over and nudged her gently with his nose. "I love you." he said quickly and then cleared his throat. "And...I wanna be with you, and make you happy, and..." he huffed. "I would want our children too be raised like we were...honor and duty aren't bad things for kids to know, and I think others should learn what we have to teach too...If you want...that is...we could, together, make the world a little safer."

Aalun was left breathless at the entire proclamation. "I love you, Arthur." she said with a gasp. "And...that's an amazing idea, I had no idea...It's wonderful Arthur! It really is. Of course I'll help." she smiled and carefully put her head against his neck. "I think it's more than I could have ever dreamed of." she said nuzzling against him.
She looked up and watched the shooting stars sending up a silent thank you. It really was more than she could have ever wished of.

"I'm glad you like it." he said curling around to nuzzle her. "Now...lets get some sleep. All of this will keep until tomorrow." He moved back towards the tree and was surprised when she joined him on his side and leaned against him.
He opened his mouth then wisely closed it and accepted it. He felt himself go warm and fluttery inside, something he'd never felt before and smiled at the mare. This...was gonna work out just fine.
