How about a group swap? o3o
How exactly does a group swamp work?
And I figure we can each find someone to pair up with that specializes in a different craft than ourselves. Like I said, I can crochet up pretty much anything. So, anyone who wants something crocheted, feel free to partner up with me.
3nodding Basically one plays host and makes a list of those interested in participating, gathers and relays shipping information and other such stuff.
When the list is full or the closing date is reached, the host pairs people up, usually based on what people can do vs what people want.
Example:
Person A can crochet and would like cute charms.
Person B makes cute charms but would like hand-carved wooden animals.
Person C does woodworks but would like a crochet beanie.
So person A would make a crochet beanie for person C, person B would make some cute charms for person A, and person C would make wooden animals for person B.
Gifts then have to be sent out by a due date or they can't participate in the future.
On terms of how true to their word people are in actually following through with their commitment to a swap, we'd have to just trust each other.
On a forum I go where swaps are held all the time, they have a feedback system where buyers, sellers, and swap participants can leave feedback for each other based on their marketplace interaction with each other.
Getting ANY flaky or negative feedback on this forum can pretty much destroy any chances of you participating in any future marketplace transactions as people automatically reject those with at least one bad mark to their name.
This is how swap hosts on the forum I mentioned are able to pressure/blackmail participants into actually following through with their part of the swap.
Of course, I stopped participating in the swaps on the forum I mentioned because I'd always get something not even remotely close to what I asked for, or I'd flat out not get anything.
For example, there was an Alice in Wonderland themed swap I participated in. I asked for something Cheshire Cat inspired and ended up with a pink elephant.
Also, as this is Gaia, we may have to give our mailing addresses directly to the person who will be making items for us via PMs (saw this done in another thread here on Gaia) rather than giving all addresses to one person who redistributes them to their partners.
Just tossing the idea out there but if people are interested in a swap, we could make it Halloween-themed and have items sent out by the 20th of October to hopefully allow enough time for packages to arrive.
